I thought I was dead, because I had red poison and 13 HP left, and no way to heal other than an amulet of regeneration. But then I remembered that statue form 'pauses' poison damage since you have poison immunity in statue form, so I was able to cast it and put on my amulet of regen and get 50 HP back before the transformation ended. I can't believe I'm alive

ghosts are dumb, if they find a group of plants in your LOS (happens with lair ghosts all the time) they'll fireball themselves to death.

I mean, obviously explosives are crucial for the late game, and potions are too handy to get rid of, so it will have to be a weapon.

After some testing done, is there even a reason for a heavy armour character to raise DEX? If you pump STR and maximize armour and dodging skill (as in, like always) you only lose a bit of EV compared to going full DEX.

Now the thing is, is the damage increase from STR significant?

Assassin is a rogue that starts with one very powerful tool that lets it kill things way out of it's normal threat range, and makes it's life out of what it finds on the dungeon floor and in the hands of it's enemies.

they honestly start with some of the best attributes too, all you have to do is increase intelligence, or switch to Chei/Zin and increase strength.

The only backgrounds should be:

Rogue (starts with blowdarts and a random wand)
Fighter (starts with heavy armor and a primary weapon choice, including ranged options)
Berserker (self-explanatory)
Monk (UC and dodging)
Cleric (just let me pick my god at the start like it actually fucking improves the game to hunt for alters)
Wizard (starts with book of minor magic. you pick a secondary specialization that gives you your second book)

Literally everything else is unnecessary and only dilutes the game and shits on it's illusion of balance.

it has worse damage than some of the other level 1 spells but it never misses so it's better against evasive low-AC things like adders

Basically if I get mephitic cloud I go to orc, and if I get some ice magic or an elemental stave I go to lair. Once you get good at evocations and the attached element, a stave will let you fight mid-level enemies to save on magic, which is what a conjurer needs more than anything.

yeah it's pretty inaccurate and its damage is really variable (1d131 at max power)

on the other hand you can bounce it off of walls to "doublezap" and hit enemies twice (rip triplezap), plus unlike other bolt spells its range isn't decreased when it pierces through an enemy so it's good for murdering groups in corridors.

lightning bolt makes a shitload of noise though so it really sucks on levels with only 1 entrance (e.g. lair:1). you'll end up fighting the entire level at the staircase.

I figured I'd just go blast through orcs and elf, pick up some magic mapping, and then do all 3 lair runes in one swoop

You just have to go far enough back to actually get the good Nemelex. At some point they gave him a second hidden piety counter that totally bricks the deck gifting.
