Safest, actually, since your battery can't die. You'd need to physically remove the battery or hold the power button for 10+ seconds. Not sure why downgrading would have anything to do with it, since the only software it interacts wtih is the battery controller that reads how much charge is left. That would strike me as a piece of ROM software that's probably hardcoded and can't be touched by anything.

Highly unlikely. Those 8 bytes are some DSi-related bullshit that you can access even without a downgrade, and the latest OTPHelper can now convert an otp.bin to an otp0x108.bin because of that.

It's technically correct, but like you said, it takes a lot of messing with the NAND for it to be even remotely impactful. The 3DS has SLC NAND as far as I know, typically rated at 10k-100k write cycles (there's no public datasheets for the exact chips used in it). If you brick 5000 times then you might start to have an impact on it. Regular NAND writes on a9lh SysNAND will be basically the same as a normal unhacked 3DS.

You could actually shave a significant amount of time off of the A9LH process if you just kept your NAND dumps on the SD without backing them up. The only problem is then you're prone to getting your shit wrecked by an SD card failure at the inopportune moment, though if that happens at all during the process and losing your backups is the worst thing that happens, you can consider yourself lucky. Part of the problem is most SD cards have awful R/W speeds, and if they don't, shitty adapters do.

You could just name your multiple emunand backups differently, since decrypt9 can account for that.

There's two ways, there's whatever the PC version is where you need to do some fuckery with the secure value in Gen6 games, I think it's just exporting it with the save and importing it when you're finished. PKhex for gen6 is a homebrew app that can edit the saves directly and is useful, but lacks certain features like legality checker, PP maxing, setting routs, nicknames and some other shit.

Pikasav for gen 1 currently requires you to export and edit on your computer, but it gets really asshurt about changing the save size so almost all of my attempts have ended with me getting a corrupted file. It's the reason I haven't started playing Yellow yet. I want my GOAT team so I can stomp people wheneve rI see them, but I can't be bothered to figure it out since documentation and guides are total ass.

It's really complicated, if you have an US Old 3DS then you need to use Japanese New 3DS downgrade files to correct the rotational velocidensity. Be thankful though, Europeans have to use Korean GameCube downgrade files, and those are a real bitch to get.

You definitely shouldn't just use the ones for the same console type & region you're on, that'll imbalance the flux condensators and ensure that the rotational velocidensity will reach critical mass, causing a total core meltdown.

So you can see shit in Decrypt9 and CFW menus. There's a few builds that turn the screen on but have the brightness set to 0 by default, which effectively eliminates the flashing, but makes it impossible to see anything before the 3DS system takes over.

BootCtr9 can do screen init and set the brightness for specific key combos, so you can get the best of both worlds if you use it + an arm9loaderhax base that doesn't turn the brightness up.

Every single produced 3DS cart has its own unique ROM ID ("header"). The 3DS sends that along when you play online, in addition to system info like the serial. They clearly had flashcards in mind as a potential threat and designed around it from the very start.

They haven't done that for digital titles. It's technically possible for them to check an eShop account connected to the 3DS serial that's sent (if there's no cartridge information then it's digital and it should be in there), but they haven't done that. Not only that, but it'd have been perfectly plausible for each digital ticket to include its own unique multiplayer ID of some kind, yet they didn't do that either. CFW didn't seem to be part of their threat model when they built the system.

Most of that info is sent (NNID isn't used for online but they can look it up from your console serial). They know you're playing on an EU console, they know your console serial, they should know the game in question is a Japanese game that should have region locking on it, and they know that it's not a physical copy of the game because there's no ROM ID.

It should be a huge red flag but they've done very little about it. There's been a few isolated incidents of people getting banned from MHX in particular, but those are isolated and only barely verified incidents.

If anyone's currently looking to try for A9LH, I'd hold off for a day or two - d0k3 just released v0.8 RC of OTPHelper which adds verification of the 2.1 Downgrade image to basically eliminate the chance that flashing it to SysNAND will brick you (it'll tell you if the image is screwed up). It's available right now if you want to use it but with this shit it's always worth waiting a few days to see if it has any bugs. Once its perfected it should help eliminate the major source of hardbricks resulting from the A9LH setup process.
