It's literally just a slightly more powerful Meteor (with a multiplier of ~10.5 against Meteor's 9) that hits twice, except hitting twice is irrelevant when neither skill is going to hit damage cap against anything relevant. It's also impossible to hone since there haven't been enough crystals released to get it to R2. In comparison, Bahamut is actually honeable, deals about 50% more damage and also hits twice (a change we don't have in global yet, but will be implemented by the time global can craft Ultima).

Nasomi is based on pre-level cap FFXI and as such doesn't have a lot of the things that are in retail. So essentially you'd be playing a completely different game. You can go on Nasomi and "/shout" for help and you might get responses but the population is low and in end game areas. However, in retail you can level to 99 and use all the QoL improvements to the game which make it easier to beat (Just doing Main Story should take less than 40 hours these days) but also easier to play.

It's up to you if you want
a limited-content but teamwork-based, original vision, and enjoyably difficult version
or
a massive-content but mostly single-player focused of older content/teamwork based recent content, quicker to digest, and easier version

I prefer the official version over private but that's cause I just wanted to get through the stories. Either way it'll take getting used to how the game plays, but it is learnable. You just have to remember that this is pre-WoW and inspired by Everquest.

Learn how the bazaar works and the right way to sell useless shit. Yes, there's a right way to sell useless shit, you can get item bundles cheap and good equipment, including some of the best in the game, in the bazaar later if you sell the right stuff.
Don't bite more than you can chew. You most likely will at some point anyway since enemies of wildly different level ranges can and will exist in the same areas, so save often and be careful.
If you're playing the vanilla release, there's 3 chests you must avoid opening if you want the best spear in the game later on. Look them up, you'll get more use out of the spear than their contents.
Offensive magic sucks dong in vanilla and is only good for taking down aerial enemies and for specific enemy strategies. You'll want to prioritize healing and support magic on your licenses. On that same note, elemental equipment is GOAT for exploiting elemental weaknesses and fucking enemies who rely on elemental attacks right in the butt. Be sure to waste some gil on element absorbing armor and shields once they become available because you'll get a lot of use out of them even against late-game and optional bosses.
Regarding team building
>Vaan: high stats in everything, but I find works best with katanas, swords and polearms
>Penelo: highest mag, give her anything ranged
>Balthier: speedy, daggers or ninja swords, works well with spears too if you feel he needs oomph
>Fran: weakest of the bunch, but has the fastest ATB time with guns so just give her one, you can switch it for a greatsword once they become available if you want
>Basch: raw power, (great)swords or spears
>Ashe: red mage-y, give her maces early on and katanas later
Choose which suit you best, but of course you can just use everyone equally, too.

I don't remember ever having to grind in XIII to finish the story. There is a little bit of a location where you can't ever get back into that's nice to grind, but I only did that for optional post game content. If you strategize then you should be able to clear the game as long as you haven't been avoiding battles everywhere you go. Although it might take a few retries as you get used to fights. Most bosses would kill me 5 times before I realized a strategy that would work.

I got to that part where it finally becomes open world with missions from the statues and shit, and basically if you don't grind there like its a korean MMO, good luck getting past it. I remember that I spent literally hours grinding on these 2 big monsters that fight eachother (it was easy way to get lots of CP) and grinded the shit out of my team. And despite this I still was unable to advance in the game because the monsters after that part of the game (when you go back to the real world) were just too strong and they massacred me because I didn't grind enough.

Its the reason I still haven't beat XIII, fuck that part, fuck grinding, and fuck korean mmos

You don't need to 5 star everything. A lot of the early missions in the open world section I would 1 star or 3 star. Death isn't a big thing in FFXIII as you can just pick up from the beginning of the fight and change you team to better suit the fight. I only fought every monster that was on the way in the game, never grinded, when backtracking or re-visiting a location I would skip monsters and I cleared the story fine. But the way I did it meant a lot of deaths. Even normal monsters would wipe me sometimes but again, death isn't that big a deal and almost seems like it's expected that you will die a few times to understand bosses.

I understood sab/syn well enough to the point I threw them in some paradigms to buff/debuff. But sentinels just seemed shit to me, they supposedly tank but your stagger gauge shits the bed and any aoe attacks will still fuck your shit up. It just seemed like this awkward role that was meant to be important but I was too dumb or didn't care enough to figure out how to actually use it effectively. The only way I even had any success was throwing out a sen with 2 medics to try and go in panic heal mode as a last resort of a failing battle, but using sen with any other role than medic just seemed to fail every time for me.

You seem to have misunderstood what I meant by solve. I meant that XIII's combat isn't really combat, it's a puzzle game, and the solution is to figure out what paradigms you need and when. I was using 'solve' as in this is the pattern that solves that puzzle. And that's the problem, there's really only one pattern that you ever need to beat 95% of the game's content, so the game quickly becomes absurdly boring. It's like if you could beat every single boxer in punch out with the exact same pattern of dodging and attacking. Fixing XIII's combat is something else entirely.

Sentinels passively reduce the amount of damage taken by the rest of the party and their counterattacks slow down the chain gauge. Rav/Rav/Sen is also a very effective combination that lets you clean up trash or safely build the chain gauge in high damage fights without constantly having your shit interrupted. The sentinel role bonus (and every other role bonus for that matter) also stacks so if you switch to a triple sentinel paradigm right before a big hit, you can just shrug it off and keep going without having to waste time healing. Sentinels are what keep the rest of your party alive so you don't have to grind not to get your shit kicked in and you don't need to use them only in purely defensive paradigms.
