There's plenty that's explained in game, but some important points are hidden a little too well. A lot of the varying theories, especially over things like the Healing Church, involve people with an incomplete view of all the information we're given.

For instance, there are tons of people that have done quite a bit of lorefagging in these threads that don't know that Laurence died before the Healing Church was a thing, which comes up only in an interview and a single item description.

i mean, there's a good amount of stuff that's pretty-well made explicit; bloodletting beast's JP name is "host of the beast blood", so it's a safe bet IMO that heal church's magic blood is straight-up from that one beast they find in some layer of the labyrinth; there's a bit about the vilebloods coming about as a result of someone bringing back "that which is forbidden" from the labyrinth, and it seems safe to assume someone brought back pthumerian blood, and that shit turns you vampire-ish, as opposed to beastly, or a mi-go if you're in proximity to rom, or a fish-man if you've been hanging out too close to kos

IMO biggest mysteries involve the dream; is doll oedon? is MP? what kind of yharnam do you awaken in if you submit your life at the end? are there still amygdalae hanging out, scourge running rampant, etc? i like the speculation. people do take it too far, though, and extrapolate too much.

In a way, I understand. I do wish some thing were a little clearer, to provide gravity to certain situations, which is my greatest critique against the game, that some situations which should be very very important, sort of just happen because we don't understand the importance behind them.

But on the other hand, I appreciate the idea Miyazaki had, and I think it's a wonderful way to get a community involved and interested. I love how you can pretty much make up your kind about everything yourself.

I have the same feelings about Elder Scrolls lore. It's a godawful clusterfuck of insane names, bizarre concepts, incomprehensible complexity. But it's amazing, and should that stuff ever actually be explored in a mainline game in the series, it's blow all other fantasy titles out of the water. I don't want C0DA the game, no one wants that, but some more stuff about CHIM, the Godhead, time traveling robopaladins, previous kalpas and shit would be fantastic.

That's a good plan, bud. I think you're ready to attempt it. My first dlc playthrough, I made a B-Line to Amelia, and started it with a +5 Hunter's Axe on a skill build, at under BL40.
I think if you take your time, and focus on learning and being safe, you'll do alright.
Worst case scenario you need some help. And congratz Anon, because you're posting in the best general there is when it comes to helping your bros out.

Chunks are a good idea. Iunno if the Frontier has any substantial amount. I never found much outside of the bigger Crystal Lizard/Scurrying Beast/Wandering Nightmare/Somethingorother's. Cainhurst is pretty good for chunks if you've gotten to that point though.

When you think about orphan of kos is a parallel to the Ghernan and Mergo's wet nurse fight. Because you're fighting an inhumanly powerful hunter and you're fighting a child, which you were not able to do when going against the wet nurse as mergo was an easy kill.

Kos is still butthurt at Byrgenwerths' descendants, and so she spawns in the Mensis Great One as a hideous malformed abomination.

The HMLS is the one that fires the projectile.

You'll want to be an arcane build, so most people who do this tend to go 25 STR 50 ARC if they're trying to keep under 117.

The best set-up will then be the lost version with 3 nourishings. While it is possible to go full arcane damage on the HMLS, the sword swings will be very weak if you do this.

Great Ones certainly can be killed or at least gravely wounded by hunters, much the same as humans being able to injure eldritch creatures in the old Lovecraft stories. We see dead Amygdalas for ourselves in the Hunter's Nightmare.

Kos' physical death clearly wasn't enough to keep her down. However, it did eternally separate her from her child. Though that death wasn't final, it certainly had meaning.

What we know is some scholars from Byrgenwerth discovered something in ancient labyrinths under the city, it was the old blood, and Byrgenwerth wants to evolve humanity, either via Insight or Blood. Fast forward to the Fishing Hamlet, Hunters are a thing (Hamlet timeline is a little confusing) and Burgerwerth wants to dig around inside the heads of the villagers for eyes (literal eyes), this makes the corpse of the god alien they worshipped to create the Hunter's Nightmare.

Byrgenking goes under, or something, splits with the newly formed Healing Church who believe blood is the way to evolve humanity. Oops, beasts, fuck, continue experiments. Highest Church members are the Choir/School of Mensis, who take on after Byrgenwerth. I believe they're contacting Kos with Mergo, a surrogate child, but alas, Moon Presence happens, too. You either get woke up by Gehrman and the MP continues on having Hunters to take out rival Great Ones (no idea why), or you become the new Gehrman, OR plans go awry and you fuck over the MP. After that, who knows.

At the end of the day, this is Lovecraftian, and Lovecraftian done right, don't assume you can know or even understand all the details. That's the idea.

/bbg/ I'm making an ARC build pls help

ARC is at 70 right now and from what I've read this is where tool scaling starts to slow down but going to 99 will apparently still get me good damage. The problem is that I will obviously be badly lacking in HP if I put the next 29 points into ARC instead of VIT unless I want to enter reddit BL territory, which I obviously don't. For people that have made or played with 99ARC builds, is the extra damage worth having almost half the HP with all HP+ runes than a 70ARC build without HP+ runes? Because seeing 847HP max vs 1366HP base/1814HP max is pretty discouraging.

Also, is it worth putting literally any points into STR/SKL to use some ARC weapons or should I just make a 50ARC build if I want to use weapons other than the saws and cane?

are the hardcaps on stats truly hardcaps? I've heard that hunter tools scale indefinitely but even still it means that although you can raise them to 99 having above 50 in Strength, Skill, and Bloodtinge do literally nothing at all. in the other souls games I'm pretty sure you scaled until 99 it was just very little return but I mostly speedrun them so idk

what build are you going for? if you're going for a bloodtinge build there's a weapon in the DLC called the bloodletter which is a gigantic mace that scales off str and transforms into a bigger mace that does the same kind of thing as chikage, only it's slower and hit's way harder.
