Mixtape is a gem. There's some others like it, but that one works amazing for me. The thing is, you have to upload it as Webm so it streams on a browser. If you upload any other video format, it downloads the video instead so keep that in mind.
Also, working on DDP's Clear aswell as practicing a bit of Len'en 4. Good Luck with your clears!

Recommendations for someone who wants to start in the genre but only plays on Linux? It seems like every shmup is Win only.
>>
>>135658242
Shmupmame has a linux version iirc
Most jap devs only bother with Windows versions tho do either use wine or dualboot windows
>>
>>135658242
Most doujin and indie games should run well enough in Wine, though I cannot help you set it up. I can't find any shmupmame versions for Linux, but I found something called "advancemame" that does http://www.advancemame.it/doc-build#5.1
>>
>>135657754
Yeah, but the lack of progress is starting to get to me. I don't really want to be anyone's competition, just to get decent-ish scores across the board, and I estimate that would place me at 70 mil, so that's pretty much my "end goal" for now, which I have to accomplish by myself. It would be nice to go down hard on the scenes, but I fear I would be overestimating my photography skills, in addition to the fact that I'd like to play Shoot the Bullet in a similar fashion before deciding to spend an eternity grinding Double Spoiler. Overall it's very hard to think of myself in terms even remotely similar to the people who easily get scores higher than my highest in the photo games, so competition is not a motivational factor for me, unless someone is going to pick up DS as well and challenge me to a scrub contest.

Is it just me or is the Player 2 Ship way better than the Player 1 one?

Its main shot is more powerful and has a wider reach.
The sideways shot is much easier to aim
>implying anyone ever uses backshot
The lock on is also much easier to use.

The only area where the 1 Player ship is better would be the Charge Shot, which in all honestly I would say is almost broken.

Of course, one of the biggest selling points of danmaku is they managed to offer the illusion of difficulty to make lesser players feel bad ass. Compare it to raiden, psikyo, parodius da etcetc which don't give you this illusion via gimmick and just mercilessly destroy your shitter anyway.
>>
>>135709047

>>
>>135708852
I haven't seen DOJ in a while, is SPS ok?
>>
>>135709337
Missing the point and having such a childish feminine tier emotional response. Of course at the highest level danmaku gets stupid hard but it's a much friendlier progression essentially that can offer something to a broader spectrum of skill. Old style shmups don't do this and have way less room for error where as in danmaku you can watch many scrub players wave around like an idiot and still get through because of luck and then feeling bad ass for it, a perfect example of the illusion of skill.
>>
>>135709618

>>
>>135709626
>wave around like an idiot and still get through because of luck

>>
>>135709948
hes just being epic, dont pay mind to him
>>
>>135709948
Yes you can of course it doesn't work everytime but luck dodges clearly exist way more in danmaku than anywhere else. Stop trying to be an obtuse sperg cunter, fucking dickhead.
>>
>>135709996
>dont pay mind to him
Not even correct english, daft cunt
>>
>>135710065
Luck dodges are so called because you have to get lucky for them to happen. If you fuck up you still have an extremely high chance of dying regardless of hitbox size. When I see a luck dodge happen it doesn't look like skill, it looks like the player fucked up.
>>
>>135710752
And the room for luck is greater in danmaku generally speaking than older styled games which is entirely my point but hey keep being an argumentative sperg for the sake of it, it's making you look so smart.
>>
>>135711745
Your original point was that danmaku creates the illusion of skill, in case you forgot.

R-type arcade

Stage 5 boss - Bydo (the chip surrounded by rocks that are hauled at you one by one)

Just how the shit do I reliably beat this fucker?

I start the fight by firing a full charge that sometimes takes 1/4 of the rocks and sometimes doesn't make a fucking dent in the lousy shit. I then fire away the incoming rocks until he's exposed and can be blasted.

But this strategy (used on every playthrough I watched) relies on sheer luck. Sure, the movement of the boss should be unpredictable, but the the effect my weapon has on him should freaking not. And if that initial shot doesn't do enough damage than I can go fuck myself and die because there's nothing that can save me from a volley of those near unbreakable boulders flung from up close.

exactly, the strategy used in the video relies on luck - if the initial shot doesn't do enough damage (which seems to be completely random) and / or if the boss moves wrong, you're fucked

nah only certain buildings give medals the rest is simply for bombing points. The strat is generally to bomb constantly neear the top of the screen so you can get medal drops instantly and up to 10k value by the first major medal building, there is 2 small medal buildings that if you bomb and sweep over from south to north can increase that medal value by 3.

>>
>>135730043

yes, problem is - it doesn't always work, sometimes it will go down like that and sometimes it won't, sometimes it doesn't back away nicely like that and just keeps coming at you

would love to know if:

-damage of that initial charged shot is random (if not, what does it depend on)

-boss movement is random or not (same question)

Why would you assume the second when he clearly stated the first? Strikers 1945 is literally called Strikers 1945 and Strikers 1945 2 is literally called Strikers 1945 2 lel.

>>
>>135730442
Bf-109 is very good at killing bosses as mentioned, it has good firepower at any range and you can dodge to anywhere on the screen without losing out on damage with your charge shot dishing it out. P-51's charge shot releases a slow projectile that cancel bullets, which is very good for survival and can be used to cheese difficult patterns.

The four other ships are decent, but generally harder to use than those two.
>>
>>135732831
GL, that second loop is something
>>
>>135730251

actually, he did have luck upon closer inspection

not on the first attack, but then the boss backed away nicely to be pounded from afar

it happens that the fucker just keeps chasing you from left to right and if he fires the wrong boulder at the wrong time, you have no chance of dodging

>>
>tfw no savestates in futanari
>>
>>135763494
At least the practice mode lets you start at bosses.
>>
>>135762564
OBS, following the instructions from the internet so at 60 fps. The obvious solution would be to record at a lower framerate I suppose but I have been loath to drop it.

Also this is hilarious in my opinion, recorded some time ago when I didn't care about playing for score or being good. Imagine doing this properly and then getting this lucky at the end.

https://my.mixtape.moe/crkpye.webm
>>
>>135763768
But not midbosses.
I wish there was a law forcing all developers to put at least 3 checkpoints per stage in their practice modes.
>>
>>135764247
Don't lower framerate, lower resolution. Mine don't get much of a stutter, but too many bullets screw it over.
https://my.mixtape.moe/wrqomn.webm An example. I got really lucky with the last one. The slowdown sometimes isn't enough.
That luck on the last photo was godlike though.
>>
>>135764378
How good is your PC? My toaster won't cut it, but you could try getting some savestates in MAME. I did that for Mushi1 when I needed to grind a part.

>>
>>135764657
I'll see what I can do next time I'm recording, gotta get playing now though.

Len'en has some spooky patterns.
>>
>>135765745
>Powerup Syndrome
>Also known as Gradius Syndrome or R-Type Syndrome, this is a type of game where the difficulty is drastically connected to how powered up the player is. If the player has high to maximum power, then the game is generally very easy but if they lose their power then the game becomes incredibly difficult to finish. Although many games could technically fit this description as losing powerups generally makes a game harder, it is the fact that the game becomes almost impossible to continue on due to respawning at a difficult location with no ability to defend against the enemy onslaught.
>>
>>135765746
Good Luck anon!

Yeah it does... Len'en 4 isn't balanced at all and the ABEX's are just Extra stages with Ultra patch on them... It's still pretty good. If you want to stick to Touhou-likes and want a fresh start, Len'en's alright I guess.
>>
>>135765443
Savestates are sort of broken in Mushi 1 but they'll work for a while. In Futari if you try to load a state the game just completely shits itself.

The only thing that annoys me is when I screw up a part I'm trying to get down and then it's just like 'well, I've got to wait another 3 minutes before I can try it again'. Then that happens repeatedly and it wears you down after a while.
>>
>>135765917

True that R-type is impossible when you lose your pods, but it's not "generally very easy" by a long shot. It's also a great game and I never get tired of it, I just consider a single death to be the end of it and your extra lives are just one of the many ways the developers fuck with you with their twisted sense of humor.
>>
>>135766172
Oh, I didn't know what savestates were fucked up in Futari. That's a bit retarded.
>>
>>135767751

I play like a couple times a week, and sometimes.
>>
>>135775819
Laser is bad, either go shota or take exy if you don't mind losing out on bombs
>>
Another thing I noticed. As a general rule of thumb, you should go after larger enemies first as they're likely to be more of a threat. I notice at several times you abandon the larger enemies to go shoot some popcorn off to the side, which 9 times out of 10 is going to place you at more risk than finishing off the big guy first.
>>
>>135775819
If you're going to choose the laser doll instead of the shot or shot+laser dolls, you should definitely be using the laser more. Keep in mind that you do "aura damage" while using the laser, so popcorn (little enemies that die in one shit) will not affect you.
You also don't seem to have much of a plan in mind, it feels like you're trying to wing it. When you're credit feeding are you paying attention to where enemies spawn, and which ones you should be dealing with first?

Different strokes for different folks and little else. Most unforgiving shmups tend to be from CAVE due to their patterns sometimes being impossible to dodge if you're still a human being. The only way Touhou is on par with that is probably with Ultra Patches. Touhou focuses on patterns that you can actually dodge instead of just bombing everything in your way.
>>
>>135858349
It's just a symbolic statement that spun out of control.

If you want a real answer then ask someone who has both Touhou lunatic 1ccs and CAVE/Psikyo 2-ALLs.

>>135858349
Compared to what? DDP games' first loops? Gradius in its first loop? Sure, depending on personal skill and preference. Deathsmiles vanilla? Maybe, depending on if you go all level 3's and do the EX stage. Psikyo 2-alls? Inbachi? No.

Rosa's familiar is of little consequence when there are no suicide bullets because her own laser is so strong and with such awesome spread, she basically covers half the screen horizontally when she's firing. Besides that, her familiar's shot can be moved in mid-fire anyways.

Follett and Rosa might actually have been made as opposites of sorts. Rosa has a really strong laser, and Follett's familiar has a really strong laser.

>>135847068
Sakura is almost certainly the best character for tackling suicide bullets because of her two-familiar wall, but I'm not sure how strong her shots are.

What's a babby's first 1cc? As a noob, I find it discouraging that every game kicks my ass horribly and it would do well for my overall morale if I could pick a game I can work for first and go at it until success. It should be an easy-ish game, but easy difficulties and novice modes don't count.
>>
>>135894101
Ketsui. jk lmao
>>
>>135894101
Easy difficulties and novice modes are made to be babby's first 1CC.

Other than that, I guess... Deathsmiles maybe. It's significantly easier than many shmups and the only difficulty spike is the final stage which is still relatively manageable compared to other shmups.
>>
>>135894101
Touhou 6, 7 or 8, Deathsmiles, Blue Wish Resurrection+ or Jamestown for bullet hell shmups, M.U.S.H.A. Aleste, Sexy Parodius or Gekirindan for traditional. The thing is that even if they are on the easy side, they're still going to throw you around until you learn them.

So my impressions as a Touhou tard: compared to Touhou Mushihimesama seems to be about visualising the trajectories of bullets, how each enemy shoots, and then maneuvering out of the way of these trajectories. You don't need to look at the bullets themselves as much, just to know ahead how each enemy is going to shoot, and have a plan. It's a very different, much more involved experience. The world of Cave is exciting. Also I feel right at home controlling a girl.

>>
>>135922186
How long have you been playing? When I first started, it took me a month straight to 1cc a Touhou game, and that's when I was NEET.
>>
>>135922732
I started in December and played them for about 2 months before getting frustrated, got two 1ccs.
Now I'm trying to get into it again but every game I try feels ultra-fast and I have trouble reading bullets unless it's white on black like Gradius.
>>
>>135923841
3 months isn't too long. I'm entering my 3rd year in playing shmups and I still get overwhelmed. Just gotta keep moving forward with the goal of always improving.

What are your 1cc's?
>>
>>135922186
That's what everyone been through. Just don't give up, take it easy. Someday you'll break the wall.
If you need motivation watch high-score player streams and see how they keep restarting the same stage on and on.
>>
>>135917393
I've just cleared Normal Original... Stages were OK but in fact I had to bomb on the bosses, I don't know why they are so hard, much harder than the stages. I found 1.5 Original to be pretty difficult psychologically since I kept trying to play for score but the feeling was awesome, too much autistic memorisation though.
>>
>>135922186
If you keep challenging yourself with something that's a little out of your comfort zone you will improve steadily, also understand that some games are NOT designed to be fair and perhaps cannot be cleared without committing everything to memory.
>>
>>135924729
>Stages were OK but in fact I had to bomb on the bosses, I don't know why they are so hard, much harder than the stages
This is entirely normal. Don't beat yourself up too much man, if you're not playing for score it's unimportant, and even if you are it's much more important to no-miss in Normal Original.
>>
>>135925778
I understand, I'm in a bad mood is all, at slow progress in my main game with RL issues piling up preventing me from dedicating the time. Certainly though, I would like to post progress instead of more whining, so I'll keep it at that.
>>

>>135924615
>>135925076
Well thanks for the encouraging words and advice. I'll keep them in mind.
I have this tendency of pushing myself too hard and getting frustrated as a result so I guess I'll just try to take it slowly and make smaller steps. Getting good at a game feels really great after all.

>What are your 1cc's?
Mushihimesama Original and SNES Gradius 3 on hard.

>also understand that some games are NOT designed to be fair
From what I can tell, this is especially the case with older shmups.

Also I hate bombing
>>
>>135927317
>Mushihimesama Original and SNES Gradius 3 on hard.
Well you seem to be making good progress, Gradius 3 is hard as fuck.
>>
>>135928843
>Gradius 3 is hard as fuck.
Maybe the arcade but the SNES version is like a completely different game.
And unlike the arcade, it feels entirely fair and is probably the least frustrating shmup I've played.
I also really like Cho Ren Sha for the same reasons but the stage 6 boss is just way too fast for my reaction time so I'm stuck. I was making such good progress too, I think that was my biggest demotivator.

I'm working on a 1cc of an old Mac OS9 shareware game I played as a kid called Woden, I didn't have it registered so I could only play the first stage and I wouldn't have been able to clear it anyways so I figured it would be fun to go back and see if I can finish it 18 years later now that it's abandonware and I actually know how to play shmups.

I remember this game blowing my fucking mind as a kid, I was used to clones of galaga and space invaders so I had never seen anything with actual bullet density

also, is your movement in Mushi supposed to be disgustingly slow? can you move faster in any way?
>>
>>135952021
Shot types have different movement speeds

W = slow, M=medium, S=fast

Use S for Original unless you're trying to optimize score

Use W for Maniac or Ultra. You need the slow speed to dodge accurately, especially in Ultra.

M is nearly useless in vanilla mushi

I'm not familiar with the keyboard binds, but there should be a shot button that lets you focus when held, an autofire button that shoots without slowing you, a bomb button, and two rapid buttons that are effectively spamming the shot and autofire buttons. Those last two are useful for doing a glitch, but not too important.

Got a NM1B Larsa 2-2 again.
If only I could do it more than 5% of the time

I might have to endure the bullshit attack for a few seconds if I get bad RNG but I've been trying harder to read the gaps and I seem to be improving a little.
The problem is they move slightly diagonally and the slowdown is constantly flickering on and off while you're trying to do the shmup equivalent of threading a needle. It would be much less daunting if it weren't for the slowdown constantly fucking with you.
That applies to a lot of stuff in this game actually. There's always that terrifying thought that the game is about to speed up unexpectedly any second and kill you.

So I just found out that if you just tap the Lock-On button in Final Boss you'll shoot a single beam at the nearest enemy. This is only really useful for getting single enemies in hard to reach spots or maintaining your chain, but the dps is just awful so dont rely on just spamming it.
Also another thing I found out is that you can destroy the gun mounts on the wings of the first boss with it(charge shot also works but is much harder to hit em). They give out a shit ton of points and change the bullets to destructible ones, but it also makes the second phase of the fight much harder. If you are just playing for survival you could just destroy 3 to get nearer to the next extend and still get the easy second phase in theory anyway, I havent tried it yet.
The first wave of bullets aint so bad, but the second one gets me errytime.

Not long enough, apparently.
I've been learning Ultra since January at least, but most of that time I've spent on stage 1 and the last bosses. One of these days I'll be good enough to actually play it decently.

I'm trying to see if it's doable for me with Reco, since I prefer her in the other modes. She makes stage 1 a little easier than Palm since you don't have to point blank the midboss anymore, but her Larsa fight is ridiculous. I don't really find the icicles any harder with her, you just have to time it differently. And if your counter is green you can actually kill them with the correct shot and still get a big enough cancel. Trying to do that with Palm is suicide.

I've hardly touched st3 and 4, but making some decent progress on st5.

Original, S-Mode

https://youtu.be/dVvKqJrU7N0?t=6m1s

This is where it starts to get tricky, the blue flies are giving me a really hard time - need a lot of lucky dodges to get through this part.

With a bit of luck and some bombs, I can get to it's legs (around 6:50 in the video) where I'm usually getting killed by the next wave of blue flies. Same for the other leg, there are just too many bullets for me to handle right now.

I'm new to shmups, so I just need a loooot more practice.

>I'm new to shmups, so I just need a loooot more practice.
You have the right mindset at least. That particular part you should be using the Trace options, and then move in the standard figure-eight/u-shaped bullet herding pattern. The nasty part comes with that big bug that spits a lot at you, but since that part is fairly static once you've got it down you should route to be underneath him when he shows up.
>>
>>136118983
This part absolutely wrecked me when I first started out. It's the first non-2hu vert I really tried playing. What made it finally click was learning proper bullet herding and how to do cutbacks.
Basically just do a ∞ shape along the bottom half of the screen and you'll always have an opening to move into. On Original mode you should prioritize taking out out the side pieces as they shoot those annoying lines that can trap you if you're not careful. The small blue guys come out of the middle pieces but they're not much of a threat once you get rid of the side parts.

Superplayers actually leave the middle pieces alive for most of the stage so that they keeps spitting out more of those bugs to milk for points. This is extremely dangerous though and not recommended to anyone.

Of course you can do this, but I'm just saying that it would be much more interesting for the viewer, if you would play games you are good at.

If I'd stream, I would never play games I suck at, I would play games where I think I have a chance to beat them, and then I'd do something like a 1cc marathon.

>and then I'd do something like a 1cc marathon.
sure something like that would be more popular, but personally I wouldn't be interested in that kind of thing, I prefer watching someone try hard to reach their goal than watch someone do something easy that they have already done a hundred times.
> it would be much more interesting for the viewer, if you would play games you are good at

>I prefer watching someone try hard to reach their goal than watch someone do something easy that they have already done a hundred times.
You sound like you never played a game in this genre. Just because you are able to 1cc a game, doesn't mean it's easy, in contrary. Even when you have played a shmup for hundrets of hours already, it is often harder than ever, since you began to play it for score too.

There just is no sense in watching someone play a game in which he has no idea what to do. People upload 1cc replays instead of death runs for a reason.
>>
Garegga is surprisingly fun when you decide to let it off the chain and see how long you can survive with it going batshit.

>>136170621
did you read the post I was replying to? he was talking about a 1cc marathon in which case you can assume they're gonna be easy for him
>There just is no sense in watching someone play a game in which he has no idea what to do
I said I wanted to watch people that are determined to improve, and if they are trying hard to improve you can assume they will know what they are doing relatively soon and constantly work on finding out what to do
>>
>>136170862
>he was talking about a 1cc marathon in which case you can assume they're gonna be easy for him
Tell me a single game in this genre which is easy to beat. There basically is non. Even the easiest games, like R-Type Leo or whatever, still require a lot of effort to 1cc them. Much more effort than just doing little baby steps and redoing the same area again and again, like how you would do it in a game you have no idea about.

>I said I wanted to watch people that are determined to improve
Just because you can 1cc a game doesn't mean you don't want to still improve in it too.
>>
>>136171298
>Tell me a single game in this genre which is easy to beat. There basically is non. Even the easiest games, like R-Type Leo or whatever, still require a lot of effort to 1cc them.
And you're telling me I don't play these games?! Really most games are easy to 1cc when you're decent, have learned them properly and your only goal is to 1cc (so you don't take risks for a higher score) like you would in a 1cc marathon
>Just because you can 1cc a game doesn't mean you don't want to still improve in it too.
That is true and I never said that, when you do a 1cc marathon because you think it's more entertaining for viewers it's pretty obvious though that your goal is not seriously improving (atleast at that point). If someone can 1cc a game and still tries to improve his score they will reset just as much as a beginner anyways, which kinda nullifies the argument that watching lesser players is boring because they do the same stages so much (usually it's the other way around really)
>>
>>136171854
>And you're telling me I don't play these games?!
Yes, I do, because you sound exactly like all these modern game casuals playing Dark Souls or whatever, who shit on arcade games by saying they would be easy once you memorized them.
>most games are easy to 1cc when you're decent
No, they are not easy, especially not when you only have a single try. Redoing an area again and again until you have it down is something anyone can do, but beating a whole arcade game in a single try live on stream is something which actually takes effort.
>your only goal is to 1cc (so you don't take risks for a higher score) like you would in a 1cc marathon
1cc is the main goal, but this doesn't mean you don't take any risks anymore. Apart from this, when you played a game so often already that you don't have a hard time to 1cc it anymore, you will start to play it for score just naturally, which is something you can not change back from so easily, since you started to memorize all the scoring routes instead.
>it's pretty obvious though that your goal is not seriously improving
My goal is always seriously improving when I play a game I have already 1cced before. Just because you can 1cc a game, doesn't mean you don't make umpteens of mistakes in it, which you know you could have done much better. And again, not making these mistakes in a whole run is much much harder than just redoing the same areas again and again.
>If someone can 1cc a game and still tries to improve his score they will reset just as much as a beginner anyways
Why do you have to reset when you try to improve your score? This makes no sense. You don't do good scores by resetting the game, you do good scores by 1ccing it. lol
>>
>>136173180

Touhou is very popular and attracts a lot of people who never played anything else in the genre, plus it also has modes any baby can beat.
>>
>>136168819
I just stream everything I do in STGs. It's the most simple way to get comfortable with streaming bad plays and resets, and you don't know what people want to see or don't want to see. If a guy or two show up to look at savestate practice or taking baby steps in games, who am I to say it wasn't worth streaming it?
>>
>>135634771

Are there any console equivalent of those horse racing and raising games aviable on modern consoles

I loved playing that sega derby one at dave and busters
>>
>>136173854
It's just common sense that people rather want to watch 1ccs. When people play on Stunfest or whatever, you also don't see noobs taking baby stebs, you see pro players trying to beat the game live. Because that's what people want to see.
>>
Twitch streaming is not Stunfest, Twitch streaming is just to chill and to chat with people you know.
>>
>>136173994

anyone?
>>
>>136175556
Enjoy chatting with your circlejerk of 2 viewers then, since that's all you can get with your stream.
Instead of acting egoistical and only streaming to make practice for you more interesting, actually try to give the people a good show and you will get much mpre viewers.
>>
>>136175556
Yes!

>>136176885
Who cares about the viewercount? I'd be happy if I had 2-3 people watching and giving me tips and tricks so I can get better.

You don't seem to get whole point of streaming and instead act like a meanie. Please, this is a happy place here.
>>
>>136176885
Live and let live, man.
>>
>>136176885
Practice stream of superplayers still get a lot of attention though.
>>
>>136177554
>Who cares about the viewercount?
People who stream? People constantly whine in this thread that they have low viewercounts, just like they also constantly advertise their streams to get more views.
>You don't seem to get whole point of streaming
Stream whatever you want, I'm just telling you how it is. If all you stream is noob play doing baby steps, then you also won't get much views. Stream a game you are actually decent at, and you will get more views. What you stream doesn't interest me in the slightest in the end, since you obviously will suck at it anyway.
>>
>>136177649
Of course, since their practice is also something different than the practice of a noob, plus they also caught a lot of attention otherwise.
>>
Anyone know how to connect twitch chat with irc? Years ago I could connect but now I tried again it seems changed?
>>
>>136178362
You need to generate a keyphrase associated with your account (google) and authenticate with that to connect to their network, I think.
>>
>>136178007
So, post your scores.
>>
>>136178007
>tream a game you are actually decent at, and you will get more views.
This is provably untrue, I know wr speedrunners who barely get 20-30 viewers and guys in our very own community currently playing certain hori on stream at a super high level who get around 10. Matmouses stream gets 15-20 and that is only ever streaming the best players in the world.
>>
>>136175556
>Twitch streaming is just to chill and to chat with people you know.
Since when? If you only ever expect people you know to visit your stream then you will never get beyond 5 viewers. I don't know any of the people i watch stream irl but enjoy watching them working on whatever game because of a shared interest in the genre. You fucking stupid noodle.

That's because the genre is niche anyway. However, when you only stream noob play, you most likely will get even less viewers (except it's a new game of course).

>>136179539
Around 10mbs/s upload should suffice, and a good processor. If you stream at 720p like most people do, you'll be fine.

I'm going to post this here again because it's too fucking good.
https://youtu.be/XWiXBYH0o9w?list=PLLRkLb5YRuv0BhdlCaDQt9RahAmnaxD7D
>>
>>136179640
Unlike CAVE games where you can still bullshit your way through if you don't know what you're doing, Psikyo gives you absolutely no chance to do that, either you remember exactly how to dodge each pattern or you die.
>>
>>136179640
play more games.
>>
>>136180502
But thats noit what im saying or even the problem, strikers 1945 has randomly timed waves of popcorn that spew random suicide bullets aswell as normal shots which can cause on multiple occasions completely troll undodgeable patterns. The bosses themselves are easy if you take away the popcorn and if the game was just strict memory it,d be fine but it really isn't.
>>
>>136180502
>CAVE games where you can still bullshit your way through if you don't know what you're doing
If you could do this with Cave games, they certainly wouldn't be considered one of the hardest games in the genre. Anyone who beats a Cave game will have it studied intensively before.
>>

That stream was pretty fun. Too bad it was so short and laggy for me.
>>

I wish. I just spent something like 3 or 4 hours doing 10-7? No success. It's not even related to strategy anymore; I just can't dodge for some reason. Actually, at this point, this is becoming the hardest thing I've ever done in a shooting game. Anyway, determined to improve.
>>
>>136180904
Yes you need a plan and a lot of practice but most cave games offer a lot of room for error and flukey dodges also, see video for a great example of "ketsui magic".

Not really... They also have a lot of pattern memorization where you are really fucked if you don't position yourself in one of these exact pixels.

>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2hA9iXz6bw [Embed]
Such luck dodges could happen in basically any game. The thing which seperates Cave games from so called "memorizers" is just that they have more freestyle gameplay (mostly just due to the lack of level design though), but this doesn't mean that they do not also have a lot of patterns which you strictly have to memorize to survive them.

Why would a power up be a run killer? Does it make chaining certain stages impossible?
>>
>>136200971
>>136200971
They move randomly more often than not, which can make them very unpredictable and dangerous to grab or avoid in many games.
>>
>>136200971
In DOJ specifically, grabbing a power-up momentarily interrupts your laser, this means you have to be close to enemies to make sure you don't lose your chain when you grab them. The power-up items' movement is somewhat random so they can really end up screwing you over if you happen to grab them at a terrible time.
>>
>>136202286
Mushi has it pretty bad too, since the powerups are Toaplan style and change every few seconds. If it bounces the wrong way you're forced to interrupt your chain to grab it before it changes into something useless.

You don't completely lose the chain like in DOJ but it's pretty bad.
