Although I haven't watched him since his SC2 days I'm gonna watch out of nostalgia.

Looks like he's doing the tutorials.
>>
>>135624019
yes its better but if youre asking for help with your factory its just common sense to actually show us your factory.
looks fine, but you want to go for a ratio 3 copper wire assemblers to 2 green circuit assemblers. this is because one circuit assembler needs 3 copper wires every half second while one copper wire assembler only makes 2 every half second. you can figure out some rough ratios by looking at craft amounts/time but green circuits are generally the only material where it really matters because you need so fucking many of those
>>
What's with all the pretty conveyors with one of each item on them? Am I the only one who puts a cluster fuck of shit on a conveyor and loop it. I automated green science in like a few hours with shit being taken off the conveyor and placed right back on it. One conveyor had like 5 different things on it
>>

>He miscegenates his belts

What happens when any one product on that mixed belt loop isn't used as much and builds up?
>>

Oh hey. Day9's actually not awful at videogames so this should be enjoyable. Also rip the daily, hearthstone a shit
>>
>>135626785
It's not a perfect loop. One part of the conveyor goes off by itself to put what isn't recirculated into boxes. So if one of the five grabbers don't grab to recirculate then they go into storage. If the system needs more iron plates I grab ones from the boxes and put them back into circulation. You won't believe how far I've gotten into research will this cluster fuck setup

>>
>>135627330
After 3 playthroughs I never even tried stacking them. Using more than one makes no sense.
>>
>>135624019
You should always look at the crafting times of things, like green science takes 6 seconds per flask, while transport belts need 0.5 seconds for 2 of them. You can supply 24 assemblers of green science for every 1 assembler for belts.

Same for everything else you do. Always look at the ratio between the assemblers.

In 99% of the cases, looping is completely useless, and even slows down the factory to some extent.

For instance, pic related allows the train to only discharge as many barrels as needed.

Also at 0:42-0:49 of the trailer you can see a loop being used to sort some ores with smart inserters.

>>
>>135628647
1. It's literally useless, you're just carting the same materials around your base for no reason taking up space
2. Unless your loop is 100% packed, in which case why not just let it pile up on one belt? your inserters actually have to wait for the material to finish it's loop and come past, instead the material being right there in front of the inserter whenever it needs it
3. I think it's harder to tell at a glance what's running low and what you need more of
The point is overproduction is better than underproduction and you're better off just flooding all the belts with materials to 100% density

There's no way I want to continue... my iron mines were running dry so fast I constantly had to worry about it, and the aliens are so strong they kill me in like 5 hits even with 4 shields in my armor. I really don't understand how to deal with them.

>>
>>135648882
But this one doesn't need another liquid, as the recipe yields crude oil instead of liquefied coal like in the other mod, and it's more balanced.

Also you have the other 2 recipes, the one with the petroleum gives you the ability turn light/heavy oil much more efficiently into gas, but with the cost of using a lot of energy and room, and the third recipe with the light oil gives you the ability to make more solid fuel from crude oil than with advanced processing, but again at the cost of needing more room because it's slower.

You should try it out by replacing the bergius process mod.

I've been advancing very slowly though because I wanted a proper wall/gun setup before I really make my mines boom

for real challenge add "no car field repair" because that's 2 of the early ayy clearing options gone; no grenades is another one and would mean you could only clear ayy bases without worms in them realistically so you'd just have to weather them on your walls until power armor

Greetings anon. I want to play a game.
Up until now you were fooling around with loops and making more thick buses with mods, but this time we gonna take a detour and see if you can call yourself a worthy engineer.
Today you will embrace yourself to the task that no other was able to comprehend the tension and sophisticated multitasking to stay alive long enough to send rocket to space. Win your way out of misery or die trying. Choice is yours.

There are quite a few QoL mods/small, basic, but critical mods. Here's a few of them that the thread uses.

EvoGUI (Shows Biter Evolution, Playtime, and Pollution)
Uplink station (allows you to take control of your satellite and spy anywhere/set blueprints/etc.)
Orbital ion cannon (Blast ayys from orbit after rocket)
Rotatable pipes/Flow Control (So you can place 2 pipes next to each other and they won't auto connect)
TheFatController (Allows you to keep track of your trains, see what they are doing and carrying, and remotely change their schedules)
RailTanker (No more barreling and unbarrelling crude oil)
Uranium power (Because needing 500 steam engines or half a map of solar is stupid)
RSO (Better resource spawning)
FARL (Automatically lays tracks in front of a train you are driving)
Bergius Process (Turn Coal into Oil)
Terraforming (Turn that annoying lake into usable land or build a bridge across it)
Modular-Armor (More modular armors and more armor modules)
Upgrade Planner (Upgrade belts or machines to the next tier with bots)
Module Inserter (Have bots put modules in machines for you)
Larger Inventory
Side Inserters

Science packs are consumable items like ammo. They are "eaten" by the lab in ticks. 99% remaining means how much is left of that single item, if it reaches 0 the stack will decrease by one. Once you start researching, the lab will start eating them again.

How the hell does oil work? Sometimes it just sorta...stops. I built a bunch of tanks to hold it but it still just stops going randomly, then starts back up.

>>135680008

After that, you can continue on to the second campaign, or go into freeplay to make your own factory.

>>
>>135681264
I wouldn't say so, but if you have shit Internet, you're better off not trying to connect, as it messes up the game for those already connected.

>>
>>135652835
>no RSO

>>
>>135681052
OK, I have my oil going into a refinery that turns it into the light and heavy oils and the petroleum. I have the petroleum going off to the side to work on my plastic, and the light/heavies being made into hard fuel. But the whole process just keeps stopping randomly. My only guess is that one thing is working faster than the other, but I don't know. I guess I could split the petroleum into two pipelines and double my plastic production since it seems to be going slower than my hard fuel productions.

By the way, can oil pools run out? I could've sworn they had like 2/s or something when I first built my jacks and now they're all at like 0.1/s

That sounds like it would work. Give it a shot.
Also, oil is infinite, the rate of production just decreases over time, until it reaches 0.1/s.
>>135681729
Have fun anon.
>>
>>135681620
put storage tanks after your refineries for buffer

you're most likely using all the petroleum and not enough light/heavy oil, causing the refineries to shut down

researching advanced oil processing will let you turn heavy into light and light into petroleum.

I use overflow valves and flarestacks to get rid of excess oil:

I recently vastly expanded my ammo production section, so there's now shitloads of overflow while I plan out the cracking section.

Are these the useful differences between active and passive provider chests?

Active chests are accessed by bots first?
Active will make bots store excess items in long term store boxes (yellow), so the yellow chests become item depots that can evenly distributed items across the base (such as ammo) or allow low energy bots to drop off items before returning, thus letting another bot pick it up?
Passive chests can act like buffer zones for item crafting chains without letting bots interrupt the flow until a surplus?
Active are always better as endpoints of a crafting chain?
>>
>>135708194
i dont think there are priorities among the chests and if there are, they arent important because if you dont have enough bots youre in a bad place anyway

active provider chests are useful at the end of a production chain that you dont ever want to stop working, for example to get rid of excess oil
>>
>>135708194
The only difference between the two chests is that passive chests are left alone until their contents are requested by something, but active chests are always emptied into a yellow storage chest if there is room. Ie. the bots try to keep the active chest emptied and its contents relocated to a central storage even if nothing is requesting its contents.

I almost exclusively use passives because they prevent overproduction. Actives are good for things like solid fuel or ores that you want to keep stockpiling.

Wew lads

Think I might have broken the laws of thermodynamics
>>
>>135720076
So you're trying to say that hydrogen fuel cell is overpowered / costs too little energy to make?
>>
>tfw need infinitely more iron plates than are being produced
>>
>>135719716
Speaking of which, even if your tank looks like it's standing still, if you hold down W to go forward it will constantly do high dps to anything in front of it. It's comparable to the damage of the tank shell, so it's definitely worth it continuously ram whatever it's in front of you. Ram into buildings as you're shooting them and they will die much faster. And of course you should also ram into enemies.
>>
>>135720076
That's a mod so I don't know what's going on exactly, but you are extracting water from the well things aren't you?

So the laws of thermodynamics are fine, the water is being used up
>>
>>135720283

Solid fuel from hydrogen contains more energy than it costs to make it, even when using a water bore to get the water.

I optimised it a bit more, you need more electrolysers, but the arrangement easily generates enough surplus power to run all these furnaces, I think you'd get about 3 MW or thereabouts, I haven't worked out the numbers thoroughly.

Trains won't self-drive in reverse tho, the answer for his problem is a backwards engine, the real answer though is a loop at the end of the track, because a backwards engine slows the train down.

If he's gonna jew then I'm sure as hell going to counter-jew. It wouldn't be a problem if they guy uploaded anything at a reasonable pace.

He splits his ~7 hour stream into like 14 videos for youtube, uploading one a day or some shit for more viewer count or whatever. I mean, I don't blame him, but if I want to watch his content I'm not paying for a subscription when everyone else just allows you to watch their VODs.

I sort of get that feeling with the fact aliens evolve over time

I would be fine if they just grew when you destroyed nests, or increased pollution. But the gradual increase in alien difficulty regardless of what you do puts an unnecessary level of stress on top of everything.

Misanthrope is literally the worst mod ever created. Attacking rail and power lines is not even the worst part of it.
Looking into the script, the mod basically adds up the number of turrets in an area, and if there are too many it won't attack. It never gives you the satisfaction of lots of bugs splashing against your walls. It's programmed to literally do nothing for the entire game if you properly defend all of your bases. Who the fuck thought that this is a good idea?
I'm so fucking pissed that I wasted a day of playtime on this mod, waiting for those big waves of attacks that the mod held back on purpose.

My very high/very high/very high enemy presence game ended up being easier than my first game on normal/normal because there are only single digits of units of mobs attacking my base.

>>
>>135791409
Install the Flare Stacks mod.
Alternatively, download that mod that lets you burn oil for energy, if you don't want to be wasteful.
>>
>>135791334
The last line in the mod's description says "Biters will attempt to avoid attacking heavily fortified locations and prefer to attack the least well-defended areas." but it never mentions that it won't attack at all if there are no defenseless parts to exploit. It's supposed to make the game harder, but it only ends up making it annoying because all it does is sends bugs to attack your power lines and rails while in your base your turrets might as well be out of ammo.

Other side of the belt. I like to have two belts along my labs and then give each of them a regular and long inserter, so I can run all four science pack types each in a single line to all the labs.

And yes, a lot of the fun of this game is working out your own methods and tweaking and improving them over time, but that doesn't mean you can't look general things up. Just don't look up exact layouts and calculated ratios, instead look up general guides and implement things yourself once you have a feel for what you need.

I like to output sulphur and plastic from my refineries, rather than sending out liquids. Solid items are easier to deal with - though the sulphur must be combined with water at the assemblers to make sulphuric acid.

You must also output lubricant, but this is a niche product so I just deal with any lubricant-using production chains in my refinery.

Remember how zergs adapt to get stronger in SC lore? Well it's the same here.

The size of Ayys attacks match the game's current "Evolution Factor".

The factor increases of
0.000004 every seconds
0.000015 per 1000 pollution units that you're producing
0.002 per destroyed spawner.

Also I'd love to see upgrades to furnaces. My whole facility is always either starved of metal because the furnaces just don't make it fast enough or flooded with it because I don't use enough of it.

>Swap C and Spacebar in the controls, aimed shots
Its still auto aiming, its just you lock onto a target with your mouse.

And please stop saying git gud like the combat system in this game requires any skill.

>Play Helldivers then, good game as well, but not everything needs to copy and paste from everything else.
Im just pointing out that in comparison to other isometric games the combat in this is bad and could be better.
>>
>>135819474

I agree, but this isn't anything new you're suggesting, I've seen these same suggestions on the forums and on Steam.

>Its still auto aiming, its just you lock onto a target with your mouse.

It shoots where you point your mouse, if you're moving and the targets are moving you can still miss.

>And please stop saying git gud like the combat system in this game requires any skill.

Everything requires skill, there will always be people who use things in slightly different more efficient ways.

>could be better

This game is these three words personified, but I still don't have any problems with the combat being the way it is, it's really fun with a partner or two too, having to stop and repair, or building a small solar powered fort to recuperate at night before heading out after sunrise.

Anon come on now, even ignoring the fact spacebar does everything for you, even pressing C and having the game auto aim to a target near your mouse is way too simplistic.

>This game is these three words personified
Anything could be better, only certain things are bad, combat is one of them.

How would you balance those mechanics to a basebuilding game?
>>
>>135820149
What balance? All it needs is the ability to actually rotate your character and shoot your gun properly, not with this weird auto aim system where you just mouse over a target and the character does the work. Also having the same for the AI so you dont have worms that always 100% hit even if you are moving would be great.

That would just be a waste of effort to make, seeing as you let your turrets do everything. It would literally only apply for the first maybe 30 minutes of the game and then those mechanics would just make it a lot easier later in the game
>>
>>135820712
Did I ever say it would be the best use of their time? The fact is the game has a poor combat system but its serviceable for what it is. It is not some flawless perfect specimen of everything like you pretend it is.
>>
>>135814840
seriously why do they spawn so close sometimes
>>
>>135820814
combat is negligible anyway

the game is about building a factory, the combat is there to give you something that if you don't pay attention to can ruin your factory and a good way for that to not happen is turrets

go find a combat mod or make one yourself rather then hope for the devs to improve to a better standard

>>135826554
What do you mean by that? It should take at most minute to check your surroundings and locate iron, copper and coal, as well as a water source for your steam engine. 5 minutes to build a few drills, furnaces, and use the plates you've obtained to make a steam engine (one drill and furnace per resource is enough to get a headstart) then 5 more minutes to build a lab and craft those red science packs. maybe after adding a few belts and inserters to automate the gathering of resources.

Don't build 5 iron drills and furnaces if you still don't have a turret.

Add chests for the iron and copper plates since the few assemblers can't consume 16 furnaces worth of products.

Basically 1 offshore pump to 14 boilers to 10 steam engines. 1 offshore pump provides enough water for 10 steam engines. 14 boilers are required to heat that much water up to 100 degrees for all 10 steam engines.

Currently, liquids do not lose temperature over distance, only their flow rate is hampered (and even that's only over really long distances), so you don't need to worry about that, meaning you could have one really LONG line of a ton boilers and a ton of steam engines with a bunch of offshore pumps pumping into your giant boiler line and it would work just fine.

It's best to put boiler lines parallel to each other though because then you can use inserters to take coal from your 1st boilers and put them into further boilers.

Or if nothing else look at the number of views on Youtube. This is a true gamer and I'd listen to his dailies for hours like doing stuff on the internet, and it was great.

Then one day he dropped SC2, and started playing Hearthstone, and that's when it really got to shit. But once in a while he does let's play of games that I like, so I check it out.
