It's just a quick hack to use Rustation's GL renderer with mednafen. It's not really usable yet, unless you hate textures in video games.

See I always wondered why PC games couldn't just allow for a Low Beyond Low mode that basically made every graphics compromise possible to get the game down to playable on toasters. That image is a bit below what it would look like but it reminded me of that.

>>135261193

You can see the framerate here, I get ~100fps at 8x (but it'll get worse when I'll add semi-transparency).

The software renderer is still running in the background (I just hooked up the GL code on top of it) so the framerate can only be worse at the moment. It still beats the software renderer when you increase the IR of course.

Bumping my stupid querstion from last thread and adding another one.

If savestates are supposed to be a snapshot of the current emulated console RAM, how are PS3/X360/WiiU emulator gonna handle that size wise? or is there a trick to making those snapshot not insanely huge?
>>
>>135265607
512MB isn't unreasonably huge
>>
>>135265607
Afaik, PS360 have a laughably tiny amount of RAM. Also keep in mind not all RAM is used at any given point
>>
>>135265607
>is there a trick to making those snapshot not insanely huge?
It'll inevitably be larger, but compression can help (at the cost of loading times).
>>
>>135265818
Compared to what the most other console have it's a pretty big step up, It's not that uncommon for people to end up with several hundred savestates, when the files are 1-16MB it's not that big of a deal when those file are likely to go over 100MB it's a bit more consequential but I guess space is cheap and you can cache those savestates in RAM to avoid read and write times affecting the emulation too much.
>>
>>135266827
>It's not that uncommon for people to end up with several hundred savestates

You mean for like TASs, right?

I very rarely have more than one state.
>>
>>135266909
>You mean for like TASs, right?
Nah normal usage. Older PC games gave me bad habits

And time for the bonus stupid question while I'm still awake.

How hard/feasible would it be to make a tool that allow something similar to savestates on any PC program?
>>
>>135266827
>It's not that uncommon for people to end up with several hundred savestates
I dispossessed myself of that habit when I found out that save states don't transfer between versions for anything past SNES level emus and sometimes not even that. PS1-2/GCN/Wii I just use hardsaves and delete the save states when they're no longer needed. Besides, due to memory cards you can have a ton of saves on these mid-age consoles.
>>
>>135267115
You can make save states in VMs, so it's already easily doable.
>>
>>135267187
>states don't transfer between versions

How often are you updating that this is a problem?
>>
>>135267306
With emus in heavy development like Dolphin, a lot. Even PCSX2 I have 3 vers from the past few months due to maniacs hyping the 1.4 stable and then some efficiency increases after that in February

Getting a early 233mhz G3 Imac later today and for shits and giggles I'm hopefully making it the classic game machine (nothing above the 16 bit era most likely). Problem is, while I could technically install OSX onto it, it'll most likely use a lot of the little resources this machine has left and leave little for emulators. Anyone know which emulators and the particular versions that'll work with Mac OS9? A lot of the current ones I see are all OSX
>>

SP has indicated several times he wants to do an OS9 port of RetroArch.

Outside of that, doesn't look like there is much to look for with OS9. Try Virtual Game Station for PSX, only really standout thing.

Hah no I highly doubt this thing could do that reasonably well. 233mhz PowerPC, either a 2MB (upgradable to 6MB) Rage 128 or a 6MB ATI Rage something. If it's a Rev A, 384mb max (actually that might not be a hinderance).

If I somehow found a Mezzanine slot Voodoo 2 with a WHOLE 12mb of video memory, I might be able to do some games. But funding that rare as FUG card is about as bad as finding a 100% honest and moral politician.

Probably going to get some shit for it, but here it goes:

Is there any way to make OpenEmu perform any better? RetroArch is perfectly fine with most cores and filters added, but this shit kinda stutters even with the snes9x core. It's nonsense.
>>
>>135311364
Doesn't sound like a performance issue. Sounds like a graphics driver issue or similar, perhaps an openEMU problem. Do you get stuttering in other games or programs?
>>
Quick question: I'm using Retroarch to play N64 games on Mupen64plus. How exactly do I get cheats for N64? I went to "Online Updater" and selected "Update cheats" but it only loaded cheat files for game boy/advance, genesis NES PS1 and 4 Sega consoles.

How do I get em for N64?
>>
>>135312396

http://wiki.libretro.com/index.php?title=Mupen64Plus
>>
>>135312396
There is no cheat database for N64 in Mupen64Plus-libretro
>>
>>135311792
Nope, unless it's something that it can't genuinely handle. Given it's OSX it's not the best platform to play games for sure, but at least anything else is fine. RetroArch like I said works superb with some "accuracy based" cores where this fucks up even with the snes9x core.

It's not heavy stuttering though, just like a drop every 4 seconds where you can notice that at the very least a few frames have been skipped. Sound is good, though.

I'm thinking it's OpenEmu, the issue is that while this little program is pretty neat for building a collection with covers and all, and its "just works" principle, it also lacks any options regarding to performance. Just changing filters.
>>
>>135312504
>>135312518
Fuck me, Any Idea why not? And I suppose there is no work around short of "use different emulator".

Kind of a shame really. I always found it super interesting to see devs test levels and what happens if you move beyond certain stuff you're not supposed to move beyond and N64 has a bunch of those.

Regarding epsxe: this is all about making them obsolete and redundant. Without either the features to show for it or the speed, their raison d'etre will keep diminishing until it really no longer has a legup over free opensource alternatives.

Confession: I have never fully finished a Zelda game. I've probably started playing each game more than once but never played one start to finish.
Ocarina of Time, for instance, I played back in the day I think all the way to the water temple. (Or was it gerudo valley? Whatever comes last) and even finished the boss there but I never really finished it. A friend of mine had a save file where you could just walk up to Ganondorf and kill him so I "finished" that way but I missed stuff in the middle. Majoras Mask much the same deal, Having to repeat stuff with the time rewind just took the wind out for me eventually and I stopped playing before beating the final boss. (I did however love the shit out of the whole mask business). Wind Waker I've just never played Period and Twilight Princess I've started twice but my god the start is so boring, the furry aspect is so annoying and again the game is very repetitive. Last year I've set out to finish it but my HD with the save died so it's fucked now. Past that I don't think you can properly emulate now so those are out too.

This hasn't stopped me from proclaiming OoT as one of my favourite games, many times.

So go play them. I played through all the main Zelda games up to TP a couple years ago (excluding LoZ2 though, fuck that), they all emulate well enough.
>>
>>135315335
Well, mostly the fact that I know most of the games by Hand. the Temples, the Items, the characters, the boss fights I've actually played them a whole lot. I just never "really" finished the game. For me playing OoT again right now to finish what I missed would be like sitting trough a 25+ Hour movie AGAIN to catch up on the one hour I missed.

>>135315617
I don't even think it's boredom so much as the fact that I just start doing other stuff eventually and forget about it.

Well. top speedrunners manage about 4:20 to 5hour runs to complete it. >>
>>135319682
You are just completely off mark there honestly.

I'd like to emphasize this: we are not just porting a bunch of emulators and calling it quits there. These are not by any stretch of the imagination 'lazy ports'. If anything an insane amount of time and effort gets put into the cores to make sure they have as many niceties as possible, and yes we do still regression test against 'upstream' or whatever you call it. But let it be known, we are not lazily porting here and we don't just break functionality, that is a complete falsehood and frankly it gets annoying hearing this falsehood being regurgitated since it really belittles what we are doing here.

We are not like OpenEmu who just refrains from making any changes, we really do go the extra mile to make sure that things which should be in the upstream emulator but which aren't being done because the author doesn't want it or disagrees with it or wants to pursue accuracy, yadda yadda, that such stuff gets incorporated in the libretro port anyway because it would be foolhardy just to close the doors on such things. A great example for instance is resolution and graphical enhancements in Mednafen PSX, we could have just stayed with 'upstream' and just sticked with native resolution forever but as you see a fair amount of users just will plain dismiss using it if the graphics are going to be looking like that in their native form. For Reicast once again we went the extra mile and made sure a bunch of stuff worked that wasn't working correctly in the standalone/upstream version. And also enabling a bunch of graphics features that were purposefully disabled for slightly weird reasons which honestly never made sense to me.

You could easily rework this for dual-diamond button setup, and some micro-buttons on the back for L and R.

That way you could at least emulate up to SNES and CPS2/Neo Geo arcade.

>>135321261
It's great if you really really hate OGL.
>>
>>135321431

The dude who posts that is a plain liar who doesn't tell you the full story.

Every emulator has a dirty cheatcode hack that 'hacks' out a shadow. They consider this 'fixing', but it also means that no shadow is being rendered in more accurate plugins like Angrylion.

Mupen64 libretro is not going to do silly shit like that. These great PJ64 reversers in this thread like to claim all the time how much they know about the N64 and how talented they are, time to fix this bug that has been around for 15 years or longer.

It looks and plays more like a NES game than Capcom's license platformers, but at least you have precise controls with challenging jumps as the main ingredient. That already puts it fairly high up in the ranks of "SNES platformers that nobody care about".

I watched the whole SNES video that was linked in the previous thread showcasing all the games for the system released in the West while taking notes of every game that looked interesting and/or 'shit' in the right kind of way (kusoge appreciation squad member reporting in) and got a fair amount out of it. Will most likely be dropping by with screenshots from my journey for a while.

Would also appreciate a video link for SFC releases if anyone happens to have that.

I think it was a problem with the resolution. I had it set to 1920x1440 which definitely improved the visual quality, but messed with said textures. I toned it down to the default 640x480 which kinda sucks but doesn't produce the problem.

Another side problem was that on the changed resolution, the RetroArch "home" screen would turn EVERYTHING GIANT AND FOCUSED OUTSIDE MY MONITOR for some reason. Rendering it unusable
>>
>>135365132
Try setting it to 1280x960 or 2560x1920

You should probably restart RA entirely after changing resolutions to avoid issues.
>>
>>135367768
Yeah it does say (restart) after it so I did. But any resolution above said 640x480 produces this bug where the Retro Arch game menu just gets enormously big (the windowed version stretches along multiple screens and gets cut off everywhere, If I focus it in one screen the game is centered perfectly and all, but but the Retroarch menu still acts like I'm zoomed in into one specific part of the menu,) I actually had to to reverse the change by memory (going four down, Hit B, going 6 down, hit left 4 times.. so on)
>>

Oh, change settings>video>window scale to x1

Also, you can manually edit, or even just delete, retroarch-core-options.cfg if you have the problem in the future.

hmm.. I think I'm alright for now with the native resolution. It's not too terrible... well it is but I can work with it.
Not using true fullscreen because I do tab a lot, and that is annoying in fullscreen. Also tends to crash the Steam overlay which I need for my controller config. But thank you so much for all the suggestions.
>>
>>135369198
RA doesn't have any trouble with alt-tab, I don't know about Steam though.

Have you tried it? It might work fine.
>>
>>135369304
It's less about RA itself not like tabing it's fullscreen programs in general are annoying as fuck when you repeatedly get in and out. I usually like to run everything in Borderless window mode.
The Steam overlay itself seems prone to crashing on RA. Fuck me it's 9:34 in the morning where I live, I'm gonna worry tomorrow about this.

RA's fullscreen is basically borderless fullscreen, and even has an option to actually to borderless fullscreen.

The bad side of emulation is that it kinda discourages development of engine reimplementations.
Imagine playing some of the popular 5th gen games on FOSS modern cross-platform engines, with no polygon jitter, in 60fps, in actual Widescreen (no hacks) with custom aspect ratios?
>>
>>135379654

Almost certain the source code for these games are long gone. So that means creating new engines, and then rebuilding the games. That's do-able but time consuming. It's just easier and faster to make an emulator and then use that to port all the games from that console.

But I hear ya. I'd love to see Silent Hill and other PS1 3D games get proper engine ports. But it's not happening.

And then he monetizes them and you don't get to see any source (like with the Turok and Powerslave/Strife re-releases).

So we are at the real problem of low resolution 2D games. They just don't scale well to HD LCD screens.

I would recommend getting a CRT Monitor, set it to 640x480, and using the PC version. I recently played RE2 PC version like this and it was gorgeous.

Otherwize, try a CRT shader and Retroarch.

The characters and combat sequence still are fully 3D and unlike ePSXe's GL renderer you won't have the affine texture mapping and lack of subpixel precision.

So I stand by my advice, if you want to run the game at high definition use the PC port, if you want to emulate the PSX version stick at 1 or 2x and use a nice shader.

This is the best multi-purpose emulation controller because it has six face buttons, four shoulder buttons, a D-Pad, an analogue stick, a menu button, and the Madcatz button can be used as a general purpose button

If you don't want one of those, get a DS4 or Xbox One controller. Your call since it's all persona preference at that point.

Why should I feel the need to play by your arbitrary rules? Many PSX games play much better with the two analog sticks than with digital, even though they technically support both. Many 3D platformers are a pain without the sticks.

This is frankenbeetle (i.e. medafen with rustation's renderer). I'm bad at making webms so here's an mp4: https://svkt.org/~simias/mednafen/mgs-frankenbeetle-8x.mp4

This is at 8x with widescreen hack. When the capture software is not running I get about ~70fps (GeForce GT 560M) but SP identified a bottleneck in my renderer, hopefully I should be able to optimize it more. The main thing that's missing is obviously semi-transparency for shadows, glass and things like that. I have it working in a branch but haven't ported it to my new libretro renderer yet.

Not only has he not fixed SGB, bgbc and bnes are unusable and extremely preliminary. They're joke emulators at best.

Now byuu's going to add Wonderswan emulation to Higan? He didn't even finish bgba, but I guess it's time to throw that on the backburner too?

byuu's a hack. There's nowhere left to go to now that bsnes is completely cycle accurate, aside from writing a cycle-accurate GB/C emulator for SGB support (which he can't do), or implementing Data Pack emulation (which he can't do), so this is just another attempt for him to remain relevant for a little bit longer.

You can use the PSP as a USB controller through homebrew, and their buttons are quite similar.

Don't quote me on this, but as long as you can run PSP homebrew on your Vita, there shouldn't be anything stopping you from running that PSP homebrew and using the Vita as a controller.

Honestly, that makes sense, kinda like it simplifies some of the shit that seems to make N64 a bitch to deal with.
>>

SP got ~20fps more disabling most of it (the triangle rasterizer in particular).

I don't know if it's going to stay in the long run, I don't plan to implement a software renderer in rustation so I'll need to implement everything in GL anyway, so it should be possible to port that code to mednafen as well.

Why bother when 3rd and 4th gen games were objectively better in every way. And if you want to play late 70s or early 80s game, you should just emulate the arcade originals in MAME anyway since 95% of the Atari 2600 library was inferior home ports of arcade games.

>>135420565
Ishiiruka is a fork of Dolphin that has it's own graphical enhancements, and extra work done on the DX9 and DX11 renderers to give a speed boost. Since most of Dolphin's code cleanups since Rachel's death have been "accuracy for the sake of accuracy, even if it costs a ton of system resources but isn't noticeable", there's really no reason to use mainline Dolphin unless you want the OpenGL renderer, or your game doesn't work in Ishiiruka for some reason.

Twin Snakes feels and looks super cheap and rushed. The voice acting is rushed. The world is bland and lifeless. Everything looks like it's made of plastic. The amazing score for the original game is removed and replaced with bland music. The cut-scenes add ninja silliness for no reason. The original cut-scenes were very well directed.

The FPS is nice, but poorly implimented into the game. You can headshot guards from across the map and there's nothing in the level design or gameplay to balance this.

It's just a cheap poor remake of a good game. There's no love in it or even an understanding of what made the original great to begin with. It completely lacks the grit or atmosphere of the original game.

The HD Textures project reduces the "plastic land" look a bit, but there's still that awful green color tint on some areas for no reason.

Mednafen cannot play ECM files. ECM files are a relic of a time when bandwidth was at a premium. Either grab a utility that will uncompress ECM, or download a PS1 image that is uncompressed and is only bin/cue.
>>
>>135474785
>Track 01.bin.ecm

Run uncem on that.

Then ensure the file names all match up with the cue. They don't always.

ecm is a compression format, not a proper CD format. It's like .zip or 7z. The .bin/cue is inside that.

And use these bios just to be safe:

>ecm is a compression format, not a proper CD format. It's like .zip or 7z. The .bin/cue is inside that.

Actually it's not. What ecmtools do is strip out regenerateable data so you get better compression ratio when you compress it later. It was not intended to be used on it's own and does not even save that much space itself. That's why supporting it in an emulator without real compression on top is retarded.
>>
>>135475040
I did this and it turned into a normal .bin file. I also took your map with bioses and replaced it with my own.
Now I get Microsoft visual c++ runtime library error when trying to load a game. I also downloaded a complete fresh game from here

But it resulted in the same error. I went and downloaded visual runtime library from the microsoft website but nothing changed.

Does there exist any kind of program that knows how to find redundant files and delete them automatically? Basically I'm trying to purge all the duplicates from my collection. I want to keep all USA releases and get rid of all releases from other regions that are not exclusive outside of the US. But I also want to keep shit like prototypes, betas, unlicensed, etc.

I found some ROM sets that are organized perfectly in this way but only for NES, SNES, GB, and Sega Genesis/MS.

This is a problem that's been tickling my autism for years.
>>
Holy shit.
With an overclock, slight overvolt, a mini heatsink and mini fan, and the right settings, a raspberry pi 3 can emulate Dreamcast games pretty smoothly and still maintain like 40 degrees celcius temperatures.

Its amazing what technology can do these days. (It actually runs Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Soul Calibur better than my GPD XD does. It even plays shit like Dead Or Alive 2 better than a Intel Bay Trail Z3735f micro PC can)

And this is still in 32bit mode on the latest RetroPie.
These micro PCs are going to get real beastly before long.

Check your controller in the Control Panel and see if you can change it there.

>I'm experiencing a lot of slow downs to 70% 35 fps in a lot of places with MGS3 and it's almost unplayable do you guys know what could be causing that?
Yeah, it's because you're emulating MGS3 instead of playing it on real hardware. PCSX2 can't even render shadows properly, and you honestly think it can run Kojima's magnum opus? Do you know how much technology that man can fit in his games?

Hey guys, same dude who was having issues w/ PPSSPP on Windows 10.

Narrowing it down on Linux now. I can't run PPSSPP at all on AMD's proprietary drivers (fglrx), just get a straight up crash as soon as I reach the actual game of whatever game I'm playing after it loads.

On the open-source driver, everything runs perfectly except when there are 2D effects (motion blur, etc.). Otherwise, there's a massive slowdown. An example is if I play Wipeout Pulse, every time I go over a boost pad it'll do this cool blur effect on the HUD, but it'll slowdown my game which otherwise runs fullspeed.

Anyone here use PPSSPP on Linux before w/ an AMD card successfully? If so, gimme the distribution you're using and if you're using the open-source driver or the fglrx driver.

yes, you can emulate "shake" move to a button and even emulate wiimote gyro rotation on a D-pad/analog stick.

However if you want to play Wii-games with everything emulated in the joypad you need a shitton of buttons, because you alse need to emulate the Infrared pointer if you really want everything.

Thats why the best "gamepad" for Dolphin atm is a Steam controller if you literally want everything that a wii-mote can do emulated on a gamepad without having to enter settings and change shit for every game.

Mapping diagonals is stupid, controller D-Pads don't have separate "diagonal buttons". it's just inferred from pressing two adjacent buttons.

SC Config.png

>>135546683
Depending on what you're using the SC for you may need more or less configuration. For instance Game Boy Advance or Playstation emulation: Just use normal controller mode and you're fine. For N64 I'm using basically the same setup, only that I use the right haptic touchpad as my C buttons. (And it works like buttons, you click it top for C UP left for C left and so on) while on Gamecube I'm using the touchpad to emulate another Analogue stick. Haven't tried it for Wii though, like that other Anon. The great thing about the SC is the configurability, you can map basically anything to any button or stick and I love it for Emulators. Hell, due to how this thing works even games that don't naturally support Controllers are quite playable on it.

How about an RPi3 in a GBAish shell. Would have to remove the USB/Ethernet ports and the battery life probably wouldn't be too great, but you'd get more power and a bigger screen (easily 2.8", maybe 3.2").

For now it's not a real 3D z-buffer, I just use it to store the triangle number so that they always get drawn in the right order even if I do multi-pass rendering (for semi-transparency). Hopefully it should be usable as a real z-buffer when GTE accuracy works well.

I'm trying to use Mupen64plus in retroarch, and I'm scratching my head at the controls. Is there a way to map A/B independently of c-left/c-down in the core settings without making a completely new retroarch config?

N64 is pretty much the only instance I need the per-game remap feature, and the way the buttons are married to each other in the mupen64 core settings completely defeats its purpose.
>>
>>135593319
I'm not fond of the fact that the controls are mapped by the core's button instead of by the retropad's buttons, specifically for the N64 where I'd like to have C-down and C-left have alternate controls without removing them from the right stick too, OR switching to a mode that overrides other buttons.

Would a real 3D z-buffer cause problems?
Is texture perspective correction in any way possible?

What I have heard is that you would need to make these additions to a new PS1 emulator (or console) and then re-program each game to take advantage of them.

Also what is the chance of Recaptcha adding these changes into stand a lone version?

The PS1 doesn't have a Z-Buffer that's why he said "not a real". With a real HW Z-Buffer the PS1 wouldn't have had the enormous amount of jitter. The PS1 only did shitty fixed point instead of floating point precision.

Never ever. Look at the Forums, the fanboys even fight the idea of having 2xIR and the likes. Standalone Mednafen is all about accuracy.

I thought the jitter had nothing to do with the lack of Z-buffer but was due to the very low resolution grid used for polygon coordinates and the GTE doing only doing fixed point math.

>>
>>135634862
If you're emulating Pokemon, go for a full dex hack (in the case of the GBA games, this is a 386 hack). The original games were designed around trading, which isn't possible in emulation.
>>
>>135636954
Price seems fair if it comes with a bunch already.
I only suggested FireRed/LeafGreen because it's a remake of the original so if you haven't dabbled in the franchise before it's a solid start. Emerald is still good as well so if the Pokemon from that generation interest you more, go for it. You could also do what >>135637172 suggests and find a ROM hack. Just poke around the hack section of the PokeCommunity forums.

As for Fire Emblem, I don't have much to say as I'm one of those that have only played Awakening on 3DS.

The N64 z-buffer was/is used for depth sorting. Nintendo had a strict policy against z-fighting. If two planes were really close together, the PS1 was incapable of sorting them correctly and placing the closer one first, causing flickering/z-fighting. A vast majority of N64 games had the z-buffer enabled to prevent this. It ate up quite a bit of performance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJRPX02A9yY

The handful of games that disabled z-buffering include World Driver Championship, and all of Factor 5's games. Coincidentally, Indiana Jones has depth sorting issues in certain spots where geometry overlaps. As far as I know, Indiana Jones never passed Nintendo certification because it was released via Blockbuster and the THQ PAL version was cancelled after delays.

I recently bought a dolphinbar and a limited edition wii super famicom classic controller.

I works fantastic in dolphin with the dolphinbar set in mode4.

I can't get the wiimote and controller to work in retroarch.

Luckily mode3 on the dolphin bar is a generic controller mode so I could map it in retroarch.

For some reason in mode3 both "L"and "R" aren't recognized as buttons.

I was wondering if anyone could help me either figure out how to get the 2 buttons to show up in mode3 or how i could get the wiimote and controller to just work in retroarch in mode4.

A few years. You need to gradually adjust your mind to all kinds of weird norms

Dunno if you're joking but the "adjusting to weird norms" thing is true and after a few days I haven't adjusted.

Why doesn't byuu just stick with one console instead of dicking around with 7?

He could pick the Famicom and make a perfect emlulator for that.

Partially it depends on how used to other behaviors you are. If you have been using WIMP GUI emulators since say SNES98 or so it's gonna take a long fucking time.

Having a strange issue with the PSX core of retroarch.

I have a 4:3 monitor I use for all my emulation and I like to stretch games so that there aren't any black bars. For some reason in the PSX core of mednafen, even though the psx.stretch setting is set to full, it doesn't stretch, and has black bars. All the other cores have the same settings and stretch just fine, so why doesn't the PSX core?

why does RA not detect some games in a given scanned directory

It's on a 4:3 monitor, any distortion is pretty negligible.

The output of medanfen PSX has a black bar on the right and bottom of the screen and you can't emove both completely outside of manually adjusting your screen.

The project was handed over to the creator of the Higan multi-system emulator, Byuu, and has not been updated in several years. The best Pokemon game you can emulate is Crystal if you have nostalgia for the old games, or HG/SS if you want something new.

Turn off g-sync.

turn on v-sync

I know that historically it's better to play Viewtiful Joe on Gamecube over the PS2 version. Is this the case with emulation? Is it better to emulate the Gamecube or PS2 version? Which will look better and have a better framerate? I feel like replaying the game on my PC.

>>

you need at least 4k emulation for that. Probably higher. These are just some blurry shaders that are a step up from just simple bilinear or nearest neighbor.

If PCSX2 was more accurate it might encounter the slowdown the PS2 version had but it's not so it probably won't. On real hardware the gamecube version would also look better due to the PS2's shit tier video output hardware, but again, this isn't an issue with emulation.

On the other hand, there's not much reason to play the PS2 version except for dante (who, from what I hear, lacks a unique moveset and plays identically to Joe).
>>
>play the first kings field

What is a .cue file? And why does RetroArch refuse to play any of my Ps1 games that don't come with a .cue file
>>
>>135717693
Is that interlaced? The scanlines look wierd.
>>
>>135730438
Cue files describe the contents of the bin files Playstation games come in. Playstation games were basically both data and music CDs and their track data is important for the console to locate many games' music. Without a CUE there isn't sufficient information; the emulated console needs it as directions.

Some emulators can run without cues, so they either assume a 1-track game (that would break some games), or use a database to check, I'm not sure on that.

Which NES core is the best to use on RA?
>>

Nestopia or FCEUmm
>>
>>135731339
Nestopia is the best RA has. It's not quite perfect but I don't remember its flaws. It has fewer than the next runner up apparently. Outside of RA puNES is supposedly godlike.

>>135731537
I was already using Nestopia but had a feeling FCEUmm or even bnes had something different going for them, good to know I was using the better one then.
>>
>>135731754
FCEUmm supports extra mappers for unlicensed carts that Nestopia doesn't. bnes has nothing of value and the libretro core is v83 anyway, but it's not like current bnes in higan is all that good anyway since it's still worse than Nestopia.

>>
>>135732081
There needs to be a deeper sub-menu in the core updater menu, a folder for deprecated and dead emulator cores so people don't get the wrong idea about them.

Or hey maybe put in the way better idea of banners and descriptive text that show up as you scroll down the list, which also alleviates issues of devs feeling uncredited.

I'm trying to play XGRA and F-Zero GX but both games can't run at 60FPS unless I'm doing a time trial, as soon as another racer gets near me I dip to 40/35 FPS and with these games the sound gets all fucky and the whole game slows down at that speed.

Also FZero GX is one of the highest end games so you may not be able to run it on AMD CPUs. AMD is worse for emulation than Intel by a lot.
