Next Months Level
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RkL0CsMTrQ

HITMAN 1.02 Release Notes
(1.02 is currently only available on PS4)

- Deployed server fixes to improve connection reliability
- Multiple improvements to the flow of ‘opportunities’ in Paris and Prologue.
- Improved AI reactions to ‘suspicious’ actions.
- Minor tweaks to cover and trespassing zones.
- Minor tweaks to challenge unlocks and descriptions.
- Other general improvements

Known issue: Requiem Pack items are no longer available for some players after updating to 1.02. This is not intended and we are investigating how to fix this and get the items back to those affected as soon as possible.

New art would also be great.

This game looks fantastic from what I'm hearing /seeing but this "always online" shit really fucking sours me on it. Why the fuck do I have to be connected to the internet to play a Hitman game.
>>
>>135250753
Yes, I have it with DX12 on. Also benchmark crashes on it.
>>
>>135250205

Man that would be handy.

Also i've spent like 6 hours in the Paris level doing the main mission as well as contracts and i'm still discovering stuff, still blown away by the sheer scale of it and still utterly clueless about a ton of stuff.

I love it.

If IO/Square Enix can quit being humongous shitcunts and adopt a reasonable "store locally then sync with server when convenient" approach for challenges/stats/contracts rather than the HURRRRR WE KICK YOU BACK TO MAIN MENU NOW system this could very well be the best Hitman to date.

Also i'm starting to get server dc's with just heavy connection usage which is almost impossible to avoid with 3 housemates, how much bandwidth is this shit trying to suck?

>>135255429
you need to escape too.
>>
>>135256073

Once you know the level, it's ridiculously easy to escape even after going loud, even more so if you do it in a very controlled and isolated fashion, doubly so if no one knows what the shooter looks like.

There's so many exterior routes from the upper floors or grounds themselves to easy exits that you've always got options. And if the elusive target will at all be visible from the exterior, sniper shots will make it even easier.

However i'm fully expecting IO to mix up the level layout for the elusive targets, be it new guard points, fewer exits, heavier security, a target that can flee, exits that get locked down HARD when alerted or simply making it next to impossible to take out the target without drawing attention.

What bugs me is that sure, we can't, but everyone else who either has it on full or checks challenges knows everything already.

Iunno, I feel like they need to keep half the stuff locked, but they can't because getting points is tied to completing challenges.

Dunno why they didn't keep BM and give you money for successful completion. Mind you I still love the game, but this is one of the few things that kinda rubs me the wrong way.
>>
>>135259798
What if putting Opportunities settings to Minimal or Off gave you a point bonus?
That would mean you could only change it in the main menu though, which isnt really a problem for me at least.
>>
>>135258076

PC patch was literally nothing.

PS4 got a decent patch though, hopefully PC version rolls out soon.
>>
>>135259894
Nah my point is that all the hits are already spoiled. Their idea is 'we show what to do, you figure out how to do it'. My argument is that at least some should be fully locked, and left for the players to discover. It'd definitely lengthen the games replayability and add to the feeling of discovery. But they can't do that because, as I said, to get points, you need to complete challenges.
>>
>>135260074

>>135260196
I agree. One of the biggest faults this game has is how it dangles the new items you can unlock in front of you but to do so you need to do the challenges in a "tick box" fashion that that kills all re-playability in that map because, well, you already did every kill and discovered every little secret on that map.

So who is this guy?
What do you think?
>>
>>135271768
Isn't he the guy from the start, and the guy from the post Paris cinematic, who is high up in the ICA and is clearly administering hits for his own gain while lying to the ICA handlers and hitmen he employs to make it look like they're just normal commissioned hits?
>>
>>135271768
That's probably the Mystery Man from Silent Assassin.

>>135272126
I don't think we have any suggestion that he works for the ICA besides his skill. You're getting him mixed up with the guy from the prologue.

He killed Kamarov as part of a private deal and was paid in information, not cash.
>>
>>135273502
My logic was as follows: the post Paris cinematic implies that he's the one who wants the hit on Maria and Viktor (sends the text to tie up loose ends). It also implies he set up the hit FOR Viktor on the FSB guy, but since he didn't just kill Viktor himself here at the secret meeting we can assume he doesn't necessarily do his own dirty work.

The start of the Paris mission, however, has Diana telling you that MI6 has ordered this hit, which implies she was lied to. So this guy wanted the hit, has the power to arrange hits, and the hit he wanted had come under the guise of some other sanctioned action by the time it got down to you. So he's high up, and that's why I think he's important in the ICA.

All this coupled with the whole "DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORLD YOU'RE CREATING? I LIVE IN THAT WORLD" teaser monologue really lends itself to the whole exploiting the agency for personal gain angle
>>
>>135273502
Oh yeah and the fact that he was paid in information as opposed to cash works with that as well, what better way to amass power than to stockpile all manner of highly classified knowledge and then ensure you are the last one who knows about it.
>>
>>135274343
I think it's more likely that he passed information on to MI6, knowing they'd order the hit.
I really don't want another ICA employee antagonist because Absolution's story was a complete shitshow.

>>135274505
He wasn't interested in the entire dossier, he just didn't want Viktor to know what he was looking for.

>>
>>135302205
There was a video on /v/ yesterday doing it in 6 minutes and he dropped it on Novikov by starting in the attic can't remember the name of the video or the channel name though. But yeah, best way to do it is just start at the attic or the AV crew.
>>
So the way to drop Dahlia on Novikov is to trigger the fireworks?
>>
>>135304217
Yeah.
Supposedly even if you line them up, it won't work except in that one scripted situation.
>>
>Do something high profile
>Can't safe for the rest of the mission
That's annoying.
>>
>>135304436
U wot? In regular missions you can ALWAYS save. Might be that you have to stand still for a few moments or some situation to be cleared, but you can always save. Apparently you can't save during escalation, though.
>>
>>135304965
>In regular missions you can ALWAYS save.
Not if there's that red image in the lower right, which generally only comes during some triggers.

>Might be that you have to stand still for a few moments or some situation to be cleared, but you can always save.
I waited for minutes.
>>
>>135305056
So why don't you save AFTER those situations? I mean, you always have time to go into another room or something. Or do you refer to the Decker undertaking?
>>
>>135305662
>So why don't you save AFTER those situations?
I can't. It doesn't go away. Had to complete the whole mission without saving.
>>
>>135305739
Seems like a bug.
But apart from that, if you didn't have to listen to every single five minute dialogue, I would probably not save anyways. But getting spotted from nowhere or disconnected and then having to relisten the same Dalia/lackey dialogue or redoing the whole Decker thing is just tedious. I just want my challenges.
>>
>>135306032
>if you didn't have to listen to every single five minute dialogue, I would probably not save anyways
Fucking seriously.
I love that the game uses overheard conversations to tell the story. I hate that it does so in a way that wastes the player's time.

>>
Can anyone explain what elusive target is?

Didn't play absolution

For "More than you bargained for", where you assassinate Dalia as Kruger, does it have any hidden requirements like shooting her or something? Or can I kill her however I want?
>>
>>135309003
I shot that bitch
>>
>>135308889
It's a new feature, nothing to do with Absolution.

IOI creates a new NPC with their own video briefing and places them on the map. They aren't marked on your map or in instinct mode; you have to use the briefing and a photograph to identify your target. You only get a single chance. If you die while escaping, or your target escapes the map, you can't try again. You can't save, either.
>>
>>135311449
Sounds nice acually.
>>
Does using the IAGO invitation and going up as Mr. Reaper count as a disguise for Suit Only?
>>
>>135313147
It's not a disguise, it just gets you past a few guards.
>>
>>135313907
Well, it also allows you to access the top floor, whereas otherwise it would be restricted, right?
But thanks for the info.
>>
>>135314020
No, it just gets you past a few guards. If you are in the suit, you are allowed on the third floor, because you look like a guest. You just can't take the stairs unless you have an invite.
>>
>>135308881
Doesn't look all that different, which is a good thing. The art direction is quite superb (colours are kept at a perfect range).
>>
>>135314134
That's pretty much exactly what he was asking.

>>135313147
Yes it still counts as suit only, as was said it is not a disguise. You have restricted access to the third floor (no attic, not the side of the floor that allows access to her room, and you'll be frisked at the second set of guards)

Getting into the attic is decently simple thankfully (on one side the guards aren't looking if you're careful, and alternatively you can gain access from the second floor from the scaffolding outside one of the easternmost rooms)
>>
>>135303427

No, he was asking if the invite allows you on the third floor. It doesn't. It just gets you past the guards.

If you go around the guards, you don't need the invite.

>only way to trigger an evacuation is by phone

This is such bullshit. I love how they don't even react to each others deaths. If Dalia or Viktor's bodies are spotted, it should trigger an evacuation. Also, a large number of deaths or a bomb should do it also.
>>
>>135340734
Viktor gets a phone call if Dalia's body is discovered. Dalia probably gets one if his is found. I know Valerie gets mad that Viktor died.
>>
>>135341124
I killed him in broad daylight downstairs, had a shootout with guards, went upstairs, and Dalia still has her normal meetings and even talks about they might need to get rid of Viktor.
>>
>>135341124
Who's Valerie?
>>
>>135344962
The woman in the bar who wants to blackmail Victor to save a failing magazine called "Showstopper."
She tries to send a lackey upstairs to the auction, which would be a good way to get an invitation for yourself if it weren't for the fact that this is right next to the bathroom where there is an invite just lying around for no reason.
Dalia's assistant, Hailey, is undercover and spying for her. That's what her conversation with the guard when you sabotage the laptop is all about.
>>
The lethal syringe should be like in Assassin's Creed where you can just pick the target and even if in the middle of a crowd nobody will get alerted until the target just drops dead a couple of moments later. Otherwise what's even the point of using it over the fiber wire?

>>135353846
get the invitation to the auction, take a seat, after her speech she'll come talk to you. after a while she will go to the bathroom to call victor to ask who you are
>>
>>135354278
Not Viktor. Somebody else, named Ezra.

>>135353846
You can get into her bathroom from a window in the attic.
Viktor was the hard one, but people already figured out how to get him. You can either distract his guard and ambush him after pulling a fire alarm, or distract his guard and ambush him near the diorama.

You get a bit more time bonus if you get SA (maybe even more for SASO). The difference between 5:09 and 5:06 is 50 points, so 170k might barely be achievable with an absolutely perfect run.

SA in Hitman 6 requires you to hide bodies. Even if the body wasn't discovered, it wouldn't actually complete the challenge.

Still, nice run by Kotti. Classic SA runs are probably gonna be more popular, since the requirements for the new one is stupid.
>>
>>135377580
>SA in Hitman 6 requires you to hide bodies
It only requires that bodies aren't found. Look at the scores at the end. The challenge is poorly worded.
>>
>>135377654
>The challenge is poorly worded.
No, it's just that the level ends straight after Novikov's death, just before the AI responds. Still cool, but it isn't a legit run.
>>
>>135377654
Score is completely separate from the actual challenge. You can get 210k and still not complete SA.
>>
>>135376582
Well just finished all 5. The same strategy can get you through all 5 challenges.

>Jump the gate
>Jump through the toll booth
>Lure a soldier to the box and take his shit then dump the body
>Go insidie
>Either get the key now or get your mechanic outfit from the locker
>Head to the safe room
>Wait for Chess guy to leave
>Shoot guard in back of head as he follows him
>Switch into his outfit
>Shoot Colonel in bathroom and switch into his outfit
>Dump both bodies in bathroom
>Fetch key now or open safe if you got it earlier.
>Head straight out door and continue til you hit the exit.
>>
>>135377794
>You can get 210k and still not complete SA

Yes, you can. If you kill Dalia while she's in the bathroom, and you don't put the body in the cabinet, it'll never be found and you still won't complete the challenge for SA, which requires you to hide bodies.

SA in this game is a challenge with specific requirements, not a rating. Kotti's run meets all the requirements for an SA rating in BM, but it doesn't meet the requirements for the SA challenge in Hitman.

It's dumb, but that's just how it is.
>>
>>135380232
Sounds like your challenge glitched out because I got it by killing Viktor in a bathroom and leaving his body on the floor.
>>
>>135379779
Don't compare glitching to legitimately doing something, at least not in the stealth genre. People are more impressed by doing things legitimately in stealth instead of glitching/making things easy, because A) It's usually more challenging B) It tends to be more interesting.

For eg; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVuiBFr0x4g
You could easily No Traces/S rank this mission by extracting one vehicle and waiting for the timer to end. But to extract all vehicles and destroy the chopper without spoiling No Traces? Now that's impressive.

Likewise, actually making both hits, hiding the bodies and not knocking out any other npc is superior than relying on glitches.
>>
>>135381014
I disagree on calling that glitching but you're free to think otherwise.
>>
Well, I gave it a test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHcNQGSAs3g

SA didn't show up in the challenge completed list, but it did get marked as completed in the menu. Who knows if it's a bug with the list, a bug with the completion requirements, or any other possible thing, but as of right now you don't need to hide the bodies in containers for SA.

Someone should try asking an IO developer directly what's actually intended for SA, and if hiding bodies isn't necessary then they need to fix that text. There's a massive distinction between "no bodies detected" and "hide all bodies."

>>135381014
I wouldn't call that a glitch. It was the same way in BM, and they could have fixed it in this game, but they probably kept it in specifically for speedrunners.

Okay, it was unlocked in the post-mission menu, and now it's locked again in the main menu, so it's safe to assume that you DO need to hide bodies.

It's also safe to assume that whoever programmed the scoring and challenges fucked up a bit.
>>
>>135383094
>>135382502
The challenges are notoriously glitchy at the moment. I know I got the SA one without hiding bodies but I've seen other people not get it despite being more careful than I was and hiding bodies.

>they probably kept it in specifically for speedrunners
It's common sense. If you place a body behind a corner in a place nobody checks it should count as hidden even if there is no box there.
>>
>Die
>Alt+tab on mission failed screen
>Click back in after a little bit
>It selects replay mission automatically
Thanks senpai.
>>
>>135383464
I ran it again without hiding either body, and it still didn't unlock. Someone really should try and get a response from IO if people are getting without hiding the bodies, 'cause this shit is all kinds of messed up.

>If you place a body behind a corner in a place nobody checks it should count as hidden even if there is no box there
I was talking about ending the mission before the body is discovered, which is what he was calling a glitch.

Also, that would be common sense normally, but there's an actual mechanic in place specifically for hiding bodies, making the words chosen much more important to distinguish.
>>
>>135384056
>Someone really should try and get a response from IO
Hopefully they'll patch it soon, the ratings and challenges are really glitchy. Once they work properly it should be clearer.
>I was talking about ending the mission before the body is discovered, which is what he was calling a glitch.
Same thing, the only difference is that in the speedrun the body would be found seconds later but in some other case it might not be found for several minutes.
>there's an actual mechanic in place specifically for hiding bodies
Yeah, I hope they rephrase that.

100k is a fucking joke no matter which way you try to spin it.

Indie autism simulators like Factorio have twice those sales, even flavour of the day titles like Superhot manage to outstrip 100k within days of their release....and they don't have 50 million dollar development budgets.

If Squeenix or IO are relying on any of the money from this initial release to fund development, the future of Hitman is completely fucked.

As much as i'm enjoying the game, the daft fucks should have quit being greedy kikes and done away with this whole early access episodic bullshit and instead waited a year and just released a finished fucking game.

Considering Steamspy only counts people who have opened the game and not everyone that has bought it, we don't know the actually number.

Plus, it is 100k on PC. Where games always sell considerably less that their console counterparts.
It is an online only title, which limits sales a big chuck, plus there are 'online campaigns' warning people not to buy the game because 'always online DRM' and 'shit performance'.

Sales are good, IO said so themselves. We should start worrying when EP 2 comes out and is panned by everyone.
>>

We need more scoring categories to differentiate good play from great play.

>>135425542
Well, it sure ain't inside the security control room, cause that shit's lasered off from all sides.
>>
>>135427750
I think score penalties are antithetic to most people's enjoyment just on a psychological level, every time you see a minus you get someone saying "why is the game punishing me for having fun!"

An easy fix that achieves roughly the same thing while allowing room for escalations and contacts is giving a small bonus for every costume change you come in under 10 (or any appropriate number) calculated like this

> (K - c) * P = Score
Where K is the number of changes allowed for the bonus, c is the number of times the player changed in the run, and P is the points multiplier

So say if you change costume 3 times you get (10-3)*100 = 700 points, for instance. This means that in escalation that requires one costume change minimum there's a possibility of up to 900 points available to all, or alternatively there could be freebies assigned (a disguise change buffer in instances where disguises are necessary for a hit which would make the formula look like this:)
> [(K - c) + B] * P = Score

plus it neatly avoids people feeling like the game wants them to be playing as dryly as possible. Same system could easily be applied to Pacification
>>
>>135429438
I wasn't proposing score penalties at all. I don't mind the one for non-target kills but I don't think we need one for anything else.

This is a good alternative to a "no disguises" bonus, though, and I could see it working better than a flat bonus for no neutralizations. In fact, now that you've suggested it, I'd like to see it applied to all the categories currently there, so there is some difference in score between "one body found" and "20 bodies found." One of those is a mistake while the other is genuine carelessness, and we should definitely distinguish between the two.

When it comes to bodies found, I think the difference between 1 and 0 should be huge, that's a significant difference in terms of detection. From 1-x could be much more incremental

So all this talk about the new Hitman made me want to try Absolution for the first time, since I've had it sitting on my library for some time after some bundle years ago.

It doesn't seem *as bad* as everyone makes it up to be...or maybe I'm just trying hard to find good things about it.

Absolution, just like conviction, is a perfectly good game. People really only reacted the way they did because if that was going to be the new normal for the franchise, then it would have lost a lot of what made it unique. If conviction and Absolution were marketed as spin-offs they'd have been much better received.
>>
>>135441406
Absolution blows its load early with 2/3 of the actual assassination missions being near the beginning (King of Chinatown and the stripclub level).
It gets worse as you go and you start to realize just how awful the story is and how much it dominates the game.
There are also a couple of levels that are just a loading screen, an interactive setpiece, and then it's over. They're awful.
Overall the game is a mediocre stealth game with a truly awful story.

got a question. If I want to do challenges can I create a save-point before killing someone with a specific technique (like let's say the challenge requires me to kill my target with a pistol and a separate challenge requires me to kill the target by drowning). So after I killed them by drowning I finish up the mission until I've gotten to the mission end screen and then load up the save-game and kill the target with the second technique to finish the second challenge.

Does this work or does the game not save it?
>>
>>135459225
That's a good question. I know that for a challenge to be awarded you have to finish the level, but I have no idea if starting a fresh play and loading afterwards would work. I'd test it out but I already completed everything.

Try playing offline and killing people. The game stops telling you the types of kills you've done. This is because, while online, they're sending this information to IO.

there are some things I kind of dislike about the stealth-design. Mainly how the game is pretty much unplayable without Instinct-mode if you don't know the map already. The way "opportunities" work is also pretty terrible for people who turned opportunity hints off. Most of the time you just have no fucking idea where you're supposed to go since the opportunities all revolve around going to specific objective markers.
It's certainly a fine Hitman game as it is but it bothers me that after Absolution they didn't go all the way, I can still feel the baggage of the previous title sitting them in their neck because they fear that ultra-casuals will dislike the game if there isn't enough hand-holding.
>>
>>135478772
>the game is pretty much unplayable without Instinct-mode if you don't know the map already
>The way "opportunities" work is also pretty terrible for people who turned opportunity hints off
I 100% the game with both things off no problem, you just need to be patient and observing of both your surroundings and unique NPC behaviors. Getting to know the map is really a case of just getting the best possible disguise you can get and roaming around and following NPCs to familiarize yourself with the layout of the level and NPC routes to look for openings.
>>
>>135478772

This Instinct shit and the permanent map makes it way too easy. I didnt even use instinct.

i started hitman absolution straight to purist dying a shitload of time learning everything by myself and i wanted to do the same with this game too. gameplay is really similar and it wasnt really hard. unless they remove the map and this instinct shit it will always be really easy. i mean it's not exactly easy but when you're used to the AI and everything it is.
>>
>>135479120
Well yeah, after you already played through the map a bunch of times it's not an issue anymore. But if I want to go for a good run on a new map in one of the upcoming releases it's going to suck with all these things turned off.

Most of the opportunities are straight up impossible on a cold run because you have no fucking idea what to do when you find out about them. I think the one that I figured out on my own was the drink-poison one. I stumbled upon the recipe, read that it's Victor's favorite drink and followed him around to the bar. Found some rat poison, got a waiter outfit and mixed him a drink so he would go to the bathroom on his next cycle.
>>
>>135479353

but thats the beauty of it man, to learn everything by yourself and be patient.
>>
>>135479230
If you want to complete challenges instinct mode is pretty much a necessity if you don't know the patterns in and out. It's obviously perfectly doable to play the game without any of the crutches but as soon as you get into the more in-depth ways of performing assassinations you might as well turn that shit back on or you are going to be frustrated for no reason.

That's why I would have preferred different difficulties over the menu options they provided. That would have made sure that they balance all the challenges around the assumption that the player is going to try them on the hardest difficulty.
>>
>>135479483
I have nothing against learning the map and observing. I am saying that the game doesn't really encourage it because the developers assume that the player is going to have a lot of information through instinct mode that they could have placed into the game more elegantly.
>>
Will they fix optimization or they think it's ok?
>>

>>
>>135479353
>But if I want to go for a good run on a new map in one of the upcoming releases it's going to suck with all these things turned off.
You just have to accept that you're not going to get a perfect run on your first time playing a new map, and that slowly working on getting to know the map better and figuring stuff out for yourself will make finally getting that perfect run that much more satisfying.

>Most of the opportunities are straight up impossible on a cold run because you have no fucking idea what to do when you find out about them
There are only two Opportunities in the game I can think of where this might be true, and that is Speechless because you can't know on your own that you have to knock out Sato because you need to shoot Vikotr while he's doing his speech, and the one where you have to meet Dalia as Helmut Krueger because you don't know you have to listen to his conversation with Dalia on the phone before you knock him out so you can pick up his phone.

All other opportunities I managed on my own just by paying attention to what the NPCs were talking about, and if I needed to find a specific item, I just went looking for it at the location where it was most likely to be found at and had no problem locating the camera lens, the Bare Knuckle Boxer note, or the evacuation plan.

You don't HAVE to rush things on your first time, nor does everything need to go as perfectly on your first time as possible, fucking up and learning from your mistakes, or even figuring out a more optimal route for your hit, is part of what makes the game fun.
>>
>>135479738
You have to knock out Sato so that Viktor does the speech in his place. You have to shoot Viktor while he's talking, which never happens if Sato gets on stage since he'll be the one talking instead.
>>
>>135479808
>You just have to accept that you're not going to get a perfect run on your first time playing a new map, and that slowly working on getting to know the map better and figuring stuff out for yourself will make finally getting that perfect run that much more satisfying.

I don't want a "perfect run", just a run that doesn't revolve around trial and error when trying to figure out when something works or doesn't. That's my main issue with how opportunities work in this game, an opportunity basically straight up tells you "THIS IS HOW THIS WORKS, JUST FOLLOW THE QUESTMARKER AND BECOME BABY'S FIRST HITMAN".

It would have been cooler if all these "opportunities" were just hidden things you could discover on your own and had to figure out on your own through ingame hints instead of mapped out mini-quests.
>>
>>135479772
runs smooth on my end. what's your card?
>>
>>135479897
that's what I did. I went back-stage threw a coin behind Sato so that that gay chink walked to the crate, knocked him out and then waited until the speech happens. I even put on the Alahu Akbar uniform to frame the middle-east for a terrorist assassination attempt while I was shooting him in full sight of the camera behind me.
>>
>>135479971
>It would have been cooler if all these "opportunities" were just hidden things you could discover on your own and had to figure out on your own through ingame hints instead of mapped out mini-quests
i agree. maybe this can be changed somewhat with future map releases. might try making a forum post or whatever. at the very least add secret things that reward exploration that you aren't given hints for on top of the opportunities
>>
>>135480051
Are you sure Viktor was in the middle of his speech when you shot him? You could have shot him either too early before he started speaking or too late after he finished.

>>
>>135480136
yeah, they can keep straight-forward opportunities for all I care if they are there to give casual-players a hint on how to solve the mission. But there should be a lot of unmarked opportunities hidden around the map that require some investigation.

Purely observational. Actions between characters happen naturally and it doesn't require you as an instigator for everything. If you are observant and listen to people's conversations you can come up with a plan that might get you to your target. Right now the way opportunities work is like very rigid mini-quests that you can start whenever you want. That's not how they should work. The interactions on the map should be fluid, not purely set-in-stone events designed around leading you down a scripted path.

Some opportunities are also basically designed in ways that only make sense in a "gamey" way aka the game tells you through hints what you can do.

That would be horrible. Is this your first Hitman game? Have you not noticed that you can start any opportunity at any time in all previous games because requiring you to be at a certain place at a very specific time or fuck you, you get nothing would be the most retarded shit and completely the opposite of how the entire series up until now has been set up
>>
>>135483045
Worked in Dishonored, worked in MGSV. Not every opportunity should be time-sensitive. You also missed the point, I'm not specifically asking for "timed opportunities" I'm asking for those that exist to be less than mini-quest and more emergent in its nature. Right now opportunities are a one-way street. There is no way to do the same opportunity in multiple ways through multiple paths because once you start one you are basically locked down to doing it exactly like the developers intended.

>>
>>135490915
The timeline of the games usually starts when they were released.

- 1999: Codename 47
- 2002: Silent Assassin
- 2004: Contracts (most of the game is flashbacks from that point)
- 2006: Blood Money (Same as above with flashbacks)
- 2012: Sniper Challenge
- 2013: Absolution
- 2014: Hitman GO
- 2015: Hitman Sniper
- 2016/2019: HITMAN (The game says its set 20 years after 47's original training in 1999, but he gets a passport to paris in 2016)

The Kane & Lynch games exist in this timeline, too. The first one takes place before Blood Money, and the second takes place between BM and Sniper Challenge.

Shit, nearly forgot about that.

It's unnerving and at the same time refreshing to have a protagonist so morally devoid. Complete and total professionalism. Nearly every other game/series tries to throw some sympathy in there.

I really like the tone the game set on the tutorial level, with the level trying really hard to make you feel bad for Joseph Clarence and even having him beg for his life in front of you but having you kill him anyway. Too bad in every other mission your targets were all worse than Hitler and you only really got to see 47's amoral side during that cutscene with the delivery man.
>>
>>135500458
I prefer to think that Absolution isn't part of the canon and that 47 died at the end of BM. Makes for a better story.
>>
>>135509410
>died at the end of BM
>>135491350
>resurrected after being cremated
You know Requiem is playable, right? The cremation is no more canon than 47 getting blown apart by some mook's shotgun in A Vintage Year. It's a lose condition.
>>
>>135507110
You also see it when he very nearly kills Smith at the end of A Dance with the Devil.
>>
>>135509828
Yes, but from a story point of view letting him die in Requiem and ignoring Absolution is much more satisfying.
>>
>>135510574
Now that we have a proper sequel, you can ignore Absolution without assuming 47 is dead.

>>135511012

From a story point of view, just skip Absolution and go from Blood Money to this new game.

That sounds right to me. The first reward for elusive targets is the Absolution suit, so it's not like they're pretending the game doesn't exist.

Would make sense. We know that in the Marrakesh level one of your targets is a banker hiding out in an embassy from angry mob and another target is an army general who was planning a coup with the banker's funding, both of them are connected but they wouldn't necessarily be in the same area at the same time like Novikov and Margolis, if that makes sense.
>>
>>135521616
Marrakesh is a mostly-finished level. I am pretty confident they will both be taken out at the same time. They will probably be in different buildings, though.
We could have multiple missions for Thailand, USA, and Japan, though. Those levels seem to be less finished, and we don't really know anything about them yet.

>>135522643

Does 47 has memory lapses canonically? I ask because in C47 it seems like the guy genuinely forgets about most of what happened in Romania after he escapes, otherwise he wouldn't casually show up to the same asylum for a hit without knowing it's a trap.

In the prologue he says he doesn't remember anything, he could be lying but if he isn't then the stuff in Absolution makes a lot more sense. Victoria basically triggers a bunch of flashbacks to his own childhood in the asylum and gets him to chimp out.

I mean it makes sense if he was programmed to have memory loss by Ort-Meyer.

The groom is her cousin. She ordered the hit so she could inherit their money, which is why she timed it for after the civil ceremony that made them legally married. The newspaper for the casino mission has a story about her living it up with her inheritance. The Hitman wiki says that her dad disapproved of the wedding, but I'm not sure where that's mentioned in-game.
Skipper Muldoon, her uncle, was fucking her, and the photos in the safe were the proof. I don't know if it was rape, though.

The problem is making a Contract is extremely limited. You can't set NPC paths, can't set up guards, which guards can see through disguises, or things like that to really create a custom hit. So you're left with either making an extremely easy and obvious hit, or having to resort to coin fuckery.

KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT POWER
>>
>>135572047
I'm not blaming contract creators, I'm blaming level designers. Paris is great, don't get me wrong, but only when you're hunting Viktor and Dalia. It's fairly bland if you're after anybody else, especially a minor NPC like Tren Po who stands still apart from a short walk from a crowded room to a crowded hallway at the start of the mission.
It's easily my biggest disappointment so far, since pre-release material had me under the impression that contracts mode was now a focus and so levels would be built with it in mind.

Whatever tool the devs use to create the escalation challenges and elusive targets should be given to the players to make Contracts with. If the devs do that, then the only work they'll really have to do is create new maps and make a Contracts infrastructure so people can search for Contracts, follow creators, etc.
>>
>>135575124
Elusive targets have their own video briefings and a unique character model, so whatever IOI creates is guaranteed to be better than anything all but a handful of dedicated superfans could produce on a regular basis.
I'd much rather have advanced contracts than escalation mode, though.

As someone who likes a fucktonne of the old Hitman games, what's the verdict of this game really?

I don't care much about what big reviews say about the game obviously, but the general score from users are really bad, why? Are they just pissed off cause of the episodic nature?

I just want to know if the Paris level has a feel of the old Hitman games, does it literally plays like Absolution?
>>
>>135597615
The main complaint has been the always online thing and the episodic format.

Game feels great, imagine blood money with more map freedom.
No weapon customization though which i feel was a mistake(although they sent out a survey which one of the 5 options you could tick for "things i want" was weapon/item customization so that it might make a return in a later stage.
>>
>>135597782
Performance is pretty bad as well.
>>
>>135597615
People are pissed about not receiving the full game, about it not running well on their (shit) PCs, about challenges being online only, and some are even pissed about it not being like Absolution enough.
I'd say you can safely ignore the Steam user reviews.
>>
>>135554565
The idea itself is neat. Forcing you to adapt to a new playstyle and switch up your gameplan. The problem arises if/when your original gameplan was already solid, and it's just adding needless extra shit to do.

I think the rewards for replaying with different challenges and assassinations already promotes new playstyle effectively. Escalations are only going to be fun if the level is changed somewhat significantly each time, like different guard routes or the laserbeams, etc.
>>
>>135597841
Haven't personally had any problems with performance.
Sitting at +60 fps the majority of the time
>>
>>135598830
I have a 980/4790k and get 60fps frequently with 50fps at most times.
Everything up but shadows on low.

I play with a controller so it doesn't really bother me to see 50fps, but people with shitter systems are probably in for a bad time.
>>
>>135598830
It's a pretty difficult game to run, and it does not look that great. To run it at 60fps on higher resolutions you need top tier cards like the Fury X or something I think.
I swing between 40fps and 20fps on an albeit dated card. But that card can comfortably run GTAV at above 30fps at least.

Then again, it using DX12 should probably inform you that it's a game made with newer cards in mind.

anyone else dislikes the scoring system? I wish we would just get a rank at the end of the contract and maybe a newspaper article about the event.
>>
>>135600626
I don't even look at it really. The numbers are pretty meaningless by themselves, and I don't care about other people enough to compare them. A direct rank would be way better in making me interested in how good I did.
>>
>>135600626
>anyone else dislikes the scoring system?
I personally don't. I don't care about the newspaper part, but I think earning money for hits and using that to unlock gear was great. Also you could visit your hideout to test that new gear out. Really gave that 'hitman' feel.

The way the scoring system has been implemented takes that extra charm away for me. Still absolutely love the game though. I just cannot believe that I'm 20 hours in and I still have no intention of stopping.
>>
>>135599617
I didn't even find the laser shutoff thing and I looked everywhere I could imagine. Probably carried by someone or hidden in some random corner.
Apart from that I am too impatient to wait for the camera to face away so I can slip around.

Also: How do I do the "sniper, unseen" challenge? I just shot Dalia and Viktor during the fireworks and slipped around everyone without being seen. Yet I get bonus for "unseen kill" but none for not being spotted.
>>
>>135602413
the shutoff device is in the same room as the laptop. It's on the right side of the main-door in a safe. You have to lockpick it. It probably makes sense to start in the attic during pre-planning because it allows you to climb down directly into the room and get the device right at the beginning.

Regarding the sniper challenge, I had the same issue. It refused to register for me so I did it a couple of times. I noticed that there are some challenges that will not register if you skip the escape animation after you've done a mission. If there is a steam-achievement attached to it the achievement will trigger but the challenge for doing the exact same thing will not.
>>
does anyone else feel like the game is slightly "laggy"? I have a good rig and my fps counter tells me I usually get 60+ fps. But sometimes even in areas where my fps are absolutely solid it feels like the game slows down.
>>
>>135603289
Well fuck me, that is actually the one room I hadn't examined. And I WAS thinking of starting in the attic to do the hacking first. Fuck, now I feel stupid.
>>
>>135604480
There's one in the security room in the basement as well, where you can disable the cameras. In the corner in a safe.
>>
>>135604528
But can you enter the sec room without the device anyways? From both ways there are lasers.
>>
>>135604704
Only one side has lasers. The other side has lasers to one of the exits, not both.
>>
>>135604704
>>135604749
maybe it's also possible to walk through lasers if another NPC stands in it. Logically speaking all NPCs that walk through lasers need to have the shutoff device or they are going to get blown to pieces.
>>
>>135604854
The lasers don't actually shut off when somebody that can walk through it walks through it. So I doubt it.
>>
>>135604917
well that's dumb. Could have been a smart way to introduce an alternative way to solve the contract. Either find the shutoff device, map a route around the lasers or move with NPCs.
>>
>>135605018
Yeah, but this is not Splinter Cell. Even the journalist chick with the IAGO invite can just walk through and there is no logical way why she would have a device.

Well shit that's good to hear.

What I really liked about the old games was the overall atmosphere, spoopy at times, non-english npc's talking in their native language & stuff. It's still too early to judge I guess, I'll just get it when the game has like 50% content.

After you listened to their conversation about the remote, the guard will usually piss off to the nearby restroom. If you time it right, you could follow him there still in waiter uniform and get your security costume there, so you can hide his body in the restroom's closet.
>>
>>135613167
There's a box literally right behind them. It's faster just to distract one.

No points considering there's an effortless disguise right in front of the laptop. Unless you wanted to do some backwards route for the sake of doing a different route the best route will already have one security outfit prepped and ready for you to use after the first target dies.
>>
>>135612171
Perfect route for speed is actually
>start attic, lock pick + remote explosives
>drop down, (if you won't get it from tech guys friend later, take security uniform from guy right beside scaffold)
>hack laptop, retrieve laser disable device
>shimmy over to sheik's bedroom
>grab gun from under pillow, fire and drop it
>knock out the guard when he investigates and plant remote mine on him (or chandelier winch)
>walk freely to tech guy target, distract his buddy, kill the target
>go downstairs however you want
>dress as palace staff
>detonate mine
>>
>>135614782
Should specify that the laser disable device is in the safe right in the laptop room
>>
>>135614782
Only faster if you don't get caught by a camera.

If you get seen that route is fucked.
>>
>>135615276
Not at all, the only way to get caught by a camera on that route is killing the tech guy, at which point you're headed to the basement anyways. Just sprint there (with laser disarm device in hand) after stashing the body and you'll easily be able to wipe the tapes before the 2 minute mark, then change and blow the mine

>>
>>135625971
That doesn't sound too hard if you know the map and have already done a SOSA run, the problem is good luck having anybody actually play your contract. Once its gone from the newly made contracts page nobody can even find it anymore.

Also another problem is how for people who are already familiar with the map, any contract that doesn't involve coin bullshit like that Tren Po featured one is easily figured out with about 30 seconds of thinking at most, so eventually playing contracts becomes really old really fast because the challenge and fun of figuring out how to do it just isn't there anymore. Devs should have given people the ability to alter NPC paths at the very least.
>>
>>135645941
The problem is that contracts is currently built as "play the game and we record certain aspects of how you do it."
It isn't actually an editor.
Hopefully, they'll realize that creating an editor would be worth the trouble by increasing the lifespan of the game significantly. They've said repeatedly that they want to improve contracts mode.

When I reach the doorway to the stairs I get the notification. I've tested it several times. Guards don't open fire when I go back out on deck, though, so they didn't see me through the walls.

>the only game I can recall having played where the inventory was on tab was GTA.
Oblivion?
New Vegas?
Saints Row, I'm pretty sure.

I is generally for games controlled with the mouse or games where you open your inventory infrequently, like if you have a hotbar. I'm pretty sure Deus Ex had it on I, but it had a hotbar, so you weren't opening your inventory a lot.

Previous Hitman games had it on RMB, which was perfect. However, IOI for some reason decided we need to hold RMB to aim, so now we have to press I. I just rebound it to a thumb button, with the other thumb button being holster.
Please bring back tapping the inventory button to holster/unholster, IO.
>>

The whole user interface/controls are pretty much my biggest gripe with the new Hitman.

I'd love to see a return of holding down a button to interact, being able to scroll through all the things you can interact with in the immediate vicinity, then releasing the button to execute.

The current system of having half a dozen different context sensitive buttons to do trivial shit...and still having circumstances where you're having to awkward position your character so you don't accidentally interact with the wrong thing is fucking retarded.

I'm in the big leagues now. finally got mastery level 20 on Paris.
Also, whose idea was this to make chameleon challenge appear only in post-mission screen?
>TFW spent 30 minutes double checking every possible disguise.
>>
>>135712521
that's not true. The chameleon challenge triggered for me when I put on the last possible disguise. I didn't need to wait till post-mission screen. On the other hand I'm inclined to believe you since challenges in this game seem to follow no fucking rules and sometimes you don't unlock shit that you clearly should have unlocked.
>>
>>135712521
For me it appeared during the mission. It seems that challenges reset during missions if you save/reload though, so if you wear one disguise, then wear another, and then save reload, it won't give the popup because it forgot you worn the first disguise. But it seems to remember for the post-mission progress, or at least for what gets uploaded to the server, sometimes it saves it wrongly but resets to the right challenges if you reboot the game.
>>
do you think this game would work with a coop mode?
>>
>>135713991
it'd be fun i think, mostly for the fact that you'd "accidentally" fuck up and you'd start to play-fight your friend ;)))

How the fuck is it possible to get the "Contract Highscore" achievement if there are still people going around with 00:00 time bonus? And why doesn't it unlock if I am the most recent person to achieve a highscore? It's of no use to be tied first when it doesn't count as highscore.

I'm afraid of failing the elusive targets, what do?

Did you notice that you can't climb out of a window if there is a frisk check in the same room? You can test it at the stairs to the third floor that you take as Mr. Reaper. Try to climb out the window. It won't work because the frisk prompt appears until you leave the room.

Regardless of what individual elements from the Absolution story they've chosen to recon (barcode, most notably), the fact remains that the hit taking place in the intro trailer is inarguably from Absolution. It's t an Absolution hit.

I didn't see it pop up in game for me either, only post mission. The one where you have to assassinate the fashion designer I did twice, once it showed up in game and didn't register post game, then the second time it didn't show in game but I got it post mission

Why are people disputing whether this is SO? The Tuxedo is a suit. It isn't a disguise, it's identical to the other suits. I don't see how you could argue this is different from any other suit starting location.
>>
>>135750375
Well, the starting option says you are disguised as Mr. Reaper. You could see it as a disguise, but even then it's still SO.
>>
>>135750879
By that argument, getting the IAGO invite invalidates suit only, as does sitting in the chair on the auction floor.

I could definitely see the case for excluding unlocked starting locations, or putting them in separate categories, but if you're going to allow attic, why wouldn't you allow auction?
>>
>>135751816
>but if you're going to allow attic, why wouldn't you allow auction?
Because you can start with different suits in the attic, if you start at the IAGO auction you're locked into the tuxedo because that's Mr. Reapoer's "disguise", as evidenced by how the Mr. Reaper challenges don't unlock if you do them with the Signature or Requiem suits.
>>
>>135752132
The Reaper challenges do unlock with the other suits, just not A Break From the Auction. 47 will introduce himself as Mr. Reaper no matter which suit he's wearing. All three suits allow you to sit in Reaper's chair.
Does wearing the tuxedo in the attic start count as a disguise?

Yeah, it's under "concealed weapon" once you've leveled up enough. I think it's level 10.
Just one Silverballer for now, though. We'll probably get the second on a later level.
If you squeeze the trigger gently the shots are more accurate, but this doesn't work with KB+M as far as I can tell.
