Chiaki's best moment is in Chapter 5. I don't really see how anybody could say the DR1 characters are better than SDR2. You can say you like the DR1 characters more personally, but DR1 just doesn't have the character moments that SDR2 has. Chapter 5 always gets rightfully brought up as a strong case for Nagito, but I'd argue it's a stronger case for Chiaki.

Chapter 5 in SDR2 was meant to be balls to the walls crazy, however it's like that one anon said, outside of Chapter 5, Chiaki was just fucking quiet and acted like the Kyouko of the game. There's nothing wrong with that, but in DR1 literally everyone spoke plenty and often and stood out with their quirks, personalities and flaws. The DR2 is overall just a lot safer and generic in the same terms, with only a few stand outs that actually felt refreshing(Nekomaru, Fuyuhiko come to mind).

Even Nagito is kind of an example of just not being well written, because he's meant to be a character you hate, but everyone loves him or at least tolerates him.

I disagree a bit. For one thing you're implicitly denigrating DR1 by negatively comparing Chiaki to Kyoko, a DR1 character. I don't think Chiaki was quiet except for 2-1. I also don't think you're supposed to hate Nagito. The characters are supposed to hate Nagito, and they do. Nagito is an antagonist, I like him for his role in the story and the fact he's just a super interesting character.

Onto the thing about safer and more generic, I disagree about that too. I think DR1 generally doesn't do as good a job with those great character defining moments as SDR2. It seems like in almost every single case you get something that really goes to the core of that character. Twogami sacrificing himself, Peko's intervention (and everything involving Mahiru is great too), Gundham and Nekomaru's showdown. I'm not gonna lie and say DR1 is devoid of that, I love 1-1 even though it's easy just because it's great for Leon, Sayaka, and Makoto. I just think SDR2 has bigger heights and a better batting average.

Nagito doesn't really get brought up as much in the last chapter for obvious reasons, but you have that big moment in 2-5 where everybody kinda refuses to go along with Hajime's plan because they don't want to put faith in Nagito's luck because fuck Nagito (and then Hajime is all "don't do it for Nagito, do it for Chiaki.")

Peko's intervention was the exact same as Syo's, the big difference being Peko was rusing everyone, but it was the exact same song and dance before that. Aoi had plenty of moments where she wanted everyone to get their shit together similarly to Mahiru and Sakura's showdown with Monokuma was more memorable than Nekomaru and Gundam's simply on the grounds that Sakura was ready to take on the mastermind herself to free everyone while both Gundam and Nekomaru were ready to die for their class which is pretty cool but wasn't nearly as impactful as Sakura's sacrifice in the end.

I respect your opinion anon, but I have to disagree and say that SDR2 had overall weaker impact moments compared to 1's, since have of them were just copies of 1's anyways.

He did it because they were all ultimate despairs. They find this out in the last chapter. He was trying to let the traitor who wasn't a despair leave and kill all the despairs along with himself so they wouldn't cause any damage to the outside world

So while it would sound messed up what he did to them and they would be right to hate him but I think at least Hajime would know that Nagito would actually look like a good guy to the rest of the world who got ruined by the remnants.

Twogami saw through the floorboards and protected Nagito with his body, they reveal that after the case. He wanted to make good on his promise that nobody would be killed while he still drew breath.

I disagree. They're related in that the cases involved a serial killer, but 1-2 isn't about Toko as much as it is about Mondo and Chihiro and the difference between them. In that sense Toko is more equivalent to that plastic mask on the floor in 2-2, a red herring.

Except I liked Mahiru's big moment of trying to make amends because she had to deal with the fact she was connected to this horrible act she couldn't remember, and she paid the ultimate price for it. Aoi, when she wasn't in the background I didn't really like her all that much. I didn't much like her plan in 1-4.

Just because Sakura's sacrifice was objectively more benevolent than Gundham's doesn't make it more impactful. I like Sakura's sacrifice but 2-4 is the better case, it has a better showdown (a fight with Monokuma is inherently going to have less weight than a battle to the death between two living breathing people), and Gundham's more entertaining than Samura in my opinion. Though I do like Sakura and her part in 1-4.

Put yourself in their position, would you really be so willing to forgive Nagito for trying to murder you and all your friends just because you ended up being the baddies in the end? Nagito didn't necessarily do it for that reason either. He'd probably say he did, but he's already been shown to be capable of trying to murder people he thought were good just to incite a greater hope. He's an insane person, and he was an insane person before he was an UD, unlike pretty much all the other students.

And I disagree as well, a big part of both 1-2's and 2-2's cases was that there was a serial killer involved and they showed up during the trial to derail it/waste time so that the class would end up with the wrong conclusion. And I again disagree as to why Mahiru's moment was any bigger than Aoi's, considering she didn't even remember what she did or what even exactly happened. though we know nothing about the V3 characters so far, the twin tails chick is said to be resolute and she does look smart and important plus you got Raiden soo yeahhhh
