>What do I do in-game?
If its your first time playing PLAY THE TUTORIAL. It's short and it will teach you everything you need to know. General rundown is: Get generator running, set up the railguns, go to objective marker, kill monster/get artifact, go to endpoint. Also fix any hullbreaches and get any unwanted water out the sub during all of that.
These tasks are all shared across the crew obviously, so you don't have to (and shouldn't) do all of it yourself.

No. The game has character skills and the assistant is objectively worst at everything. Take engie or mech.

>What are the controls?
WASD to move, E to interact, Tab to chat. LMB uses most objects in your hand, some others have to be "aimed" with RMB first, like any weapon or the welder/cutter.

>How do I set up the generator?
Set shutdown temp to 6-7k, then fission to 100% until around 2k (grid load and temp should be the same), then enable auto-adjustment and you're basically done unless someone fucks with it. Just make sure to replace the fuel rod once it's empty.

>How do I set up the railgun?
Set the capacitors to charge at 100% and put the shells into the loader (pick them up with E, then hit E on the loader and drag them into the boxes with your mouse).

E on the periscope, then RMB to aim and LMB to fire.

There are no junction box loops, however I seem to be having fluctuating power issues with load anywhere between 2000+ dropping to 760 occasionally. I also have 4 engines which I disconnected 3, and six ballast pumps which I disconnected 2 it seemed to stabilize for a bit, but had a fluctuating problem, however it wasn't as bad or often as before.

This is where your problem comes from.
Wire up a battery. One junction box should send power in, and the battery should send power out to a different junction box. The more batteries, the more leeway your sub has, because it can supplement power if there are spikes.

My friend and I have an idea of not only using batteries like a capacitor, but using a super conductor to amplify power directly to the engines, and the ballasts if they are going to use a sudden high load spike when activated. The only downside being that it would require the superconductor to build a charge again, but in theory would actually be more power efficient?

Well, power can flow through junction boxes freely. You definitely shouldn't hook up two separate systems connected to the reactor, though, unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Well, this was the sub I was going to test out, but nobody showed up. It's "The Room MK -1." Remember that sub that had all the important bits contained in one room? It had a doorbrig, the world's biggest airlock, ayy lmao, and the most beautiful huge bedroom in existence, but I discovered that all of those were useless. All you need is The Room.

I'll upload it to mega tomorrow along with fixes to many of my other subs.

Having limited welders and oxygen tanks really isn't a huge deal. Don't make everything easymode just because some people are terrible at the game, if the sub has a deconstructor and a fabricator, and enough shit you can juggle around to get what you need, its more interesting than a cargo hold full of tools.

And oxygen is replenishable, there is really no need for more than 32 tanks (2 per player when full) on a large sub. Smaller subs are meant for smaller playercounts and should be treated as such.


It would be nice to be able to scale subs to the playercount too, but I assume that wont ever ever happen

We have 3-5 outstanding ships, a bunch of more or less okay ships, and then a few select horrible ships

These feel like nitpicks more than actual suggestions. I don't think every sub should start out perfectly equipped.

I don't know any way to fix water in airlocks on roundstart. Let me know.

The thing with Railguns not being loaded and charged is that it massively delays the game start while everyone runs around loading them shell by shell

Starting with everything loaded and charged a la Compensator isn't casual, it just means the Captain can immediately hit the switch and get going instead of waiting two minutes for all the guns to be loaded (or not). What happens after that is up to the crew

The update completely changed every item placed in a jumpsuit in sub editor, it even changed some polycarbonate bars into lamps, which means you can "drop" it out of your inventory (it stays in) and a lamp spawns, how cool is that? You can only "drop" one lamp at a time

Isn't one of the fun parts about the game surmounting challenges? Isn't it even more fun when odds are stacked against you? How is being given a flawless, baby's-first! submarine to beat an easy mission fun, besides the first couple times you do it?

Compensator is only really fun for me when the crew is fucking around or if the mission is full of shrimp.

I made a little pack with updates to nearly all of my subs, as well as some fixes to other subs. That pastebin earlier had some kinda dumb stuff but also a few valid things which I did to some subs. I didn't change anything that I thought would detract from the original goal of the sub, so 'meme' and 'gimmick' subs are still basically unchanged/refined.

There's a $ behind some sub names because there's already a 'F' tag which was used and I don't feel like making new MKs for every sub, y'know?

Security cameras can be placed around the sub, resembles a lightbulb, can be disabled when hit and repaired by mechanic or engineer
The security monitor, when E'd displays in it's screen a security camera, cycles through all cameras when used and gives security something to do

I'm the guy that asked for them, dude, and I regularly host the server, maybe as much/more than Rick or Dan. I also made 6 of the subs in the repo. You had some good arguments on a few subs which I fixed in that pack I posted last night, but for many subs I didn't want to make changes that radically altered their core concepts. Also, you're definitely wrong if you think all subs need to start with charged batteries and loaded guns, and you're also not a fucking submaker because it's literally impossible to fix the 'airlock starts with water' bug.

I like the healing tanks or medical machine/chamber idea way more, this game needs way way more scifi shit and it has too little for being about a submarine in an alien planet.
Until the game has some other kind of health system it doesn't matter much since the players health is not a whole lot and everything will kill you almost instantly.

How about a fast acting healing agent, changing the medical syringes we have right now to adrenaline solution that amps your health for a short time before slowly going back down to what it was (or lower), whereas the healing agent will increase your real health?

The game doesn't actually include many sci-fi elements, the diving suit seems to be the most futuristic thing on the subs. I actually really like it that way

Red lights are used in submarines for lighting because it's the quickest transition to night vision, I don't know if they use it for emergency lighting though, as it seems emergency lighting is for when the main lights go out.

I put a guy on the reactor, so they put on a dive suit with no oxygen tank and suffocate 30 seconds in.
I tell my mechanic to fix leaks, and when they do come i find him drowning without a welder's kit as far away from the breach as he can be.
My gunners have no idea how to load their guns so I have to manually do it every time I set off.
My captain, if not set to wait, will wander off the console if I ever switch control to load some railgun rounds. If set to wait, my captain will bravely inhale a gallon of seawater and not move an inch from where they last stood.

It's pretty fun in the fact that your ship stays the way you left it throughout the game, if you set up a light component to detect if a room that you realised kept leaking did, then it stays throughout multiple missions, then you have to plan with restocking and hiring crew (where assistants actually have a use). Although its something that multiplayer desperately needs.

A multiplayer campaign with a persistent ship will most likely be added in the future, but as you said making it work might be tricky from a gameplay perspective. Worrying about griefers should always be the lowest concern when you are thinking of adding something to the game. It's not your fault people can be assholes and most competent people can figure it out.

That being said, a way to filter logs would be nice (buttons, cabinet selecting, things like that are less of a concern than detonators and nuclear reactors). Also I would really hope you add the option to turn wires into copper and vice versa, it seems like an obvious option

I'd like to see some inventory management improvements. Maybe hot keys to use certain items in your inventory? The way it works now just takes too long, especially when you can bleed out in 5 seconds. Misclicking the bandage means you can drop it which can prove fatal.

Although on one hand that adds to the tension and realism, though it can be a pain in the ass. I guess that's a balance issue.

Other hot keys would be cool, like a button to put on the mask and a button to wield your welder.

Now what'd be really cool is if we could get alarms in the ships. Audible cues when the reactor is overheating, or when the fuel is about to run out. Maybe get other beeps if you're wearing a suit and the oxygen is low?

I think a proximity alarm would be neat as well. On the radar screen, if an object gets within that circle draw around the ship (I think the radius it draws is around 50m out or so) there could be alarms wired in the ship that indicate a threat is close. It'd be cool to have warnings for depth as well. Like an alarm would blare past 1000m, 1250m, etc, or whatever user defined ranges are. They could be warnings up to the calculated point of no return for subs (ie depths at which it's just not possible to repair the sub and make it back).

Nah. Just the option to automate the ship's controls by yourself. Control the oxygen supply, open and seal doors, see everything through cameras, get blinded when the crew disable all of them and charge your AI room.

Let me tell you, being Traitor AI in SS13 is the best thing in the world. I want to see how that would carry across to a ship AI.
