Trying to play Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold, but it keeps crashing right before the first Fafnir transformation. Anyone know why this is, or have a fix for it?

Best way would be to flash someone elses NAND backup, since even if they had A9LH it has the wrong OTP hash in the payload. Any other ideas, other than rogue kernel mode homebrew that specifically targets out A9LH.

Very little time is actually spent paying attention and using the 3DS. Most of your time is spent waiting on your SD card to read/write the backups. there are games that have the update data in the game (like mercenaries digital version). The data is as big as the game or bigger.

the first one could be downloaded if you installed the cia, the second doesnt (as you havent bought the game)

He didn't take into account that most of 7 hours is not paying attention to it since it's just copying files in the background and dumping/writing NANDs. It's also 3-7 because it varies on how much work you need to do before you have an emunand setup. 7 hours is the absolute longest and that's with constant fuckups, paranoia about file corruption and retransfers on my part. This was also before CloudA9LH, so I had to fuck around with installing python and troubleshooting, fucking around with make, dumping xorpads and all kinds of other shit. I was still doing about half an hour of work at most on the other 3DS I did.

Everything is based on ctrulib. I believe sf2dlib is still being used to handle most of the interaction with the gpu. If you don't mind the performance loss, there's a mostly-working port of love2d.
There aren't very many good tutorials, check out 3dbrew and the gbatemp wiki. The best thing you can really do is look at the source code for things other people have done and play around with that until you figure it out.

I downloaded and installed Sonic Lost World from one of the CIA dumps in the OP, and when I boot it up I get a black screen. No error message or anything, and I can press the home button and it brings up the home menu without any trouble at all. Anyone else have this problem?

OTPhelper is a 3DSx NAND tool that is meant specifically for this process. We use it now to flash NANDs and back them up similar to decrypt9, but it also includes an option to unbrick the 2.1 emunand for the N3DS. The New 3ds, since it has extra encryption or some shit, doesn't support 2.1 sysnand by default. So the old method involved dumping your xorpads, running the 2.1 emunand through a python script with those same xorpads, and then flashing it. OTP helper is supposed to do that too, but I have no idea since I've only done one N3DS for A9LH.

The 3DS uses both at the same time. It's not only about DS games, it does much more. Having control ARM9 kernel access is basically what makes you able to pirate and other stuff. arm9loaderhax is just ONE of the many exploits that give you ARM9 kernel access.

Yea. The way I understand it is the hash is what the console gives control of the kernel and everything after it finishes doing the really low-level boot stuff. We use the hash to write a payload that redirects it from the next step (booting NAND and home menu, in this case) to what we want, which is the arm9loaderhax.bin that's on the SD, which chains into our decrypt9, emunand, uncart, CFW, whatever. We're never performing a user space exploit, and we never need to race the hardware, since we're using a hash and the console just hands over control to what it believes to be the legitimate next step in booting without us ever needing to do another proper attack.

That's why an incorrect hash bricks you. It sees another consoles hash and denies boot.
