With MF released recently I decided to try and give OS a go again and I am amazed by the fun I had after getting around the confusing UI.

How is MF in comparison?

Question about GT:MF, what does the color of the enemy markers represent in tactical mode?
I don't mean the ones that signal the approximate location of tanks and infantry but the stylized ones that appear on top of fully identified enemies.
Obviously they are grey when the units are dead but i noticed they sometimes become yellow, beige, white or blue and i have no idea what the color stands for.
>>
>>135116963

If it is anything like OS does its yellow for a last known location of an enemy, blue for a spotted enemy, lighter blue/white for a spotted enemy that is being engaged.

Dunno about the beige though.
>>

Mius Front is even better in my opinion. Lots of engine upgrades, UI/AI improvments, and overall just better

Does anyone know how to get the pz III flame tank in battle editor in Mius Front? It's bothering me of badly because the flamingo tank has horrible armor. I need something durable. Also, how can I get German infantry carrying flamethrowers? Asked on the stream forums, got absolutely no responses.

In 1943, a shitty conscript unit was sent to the frontline by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security trench to the Lenningrad underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a Tiger, if no one else can help, and if you can select them....maybe you can hire The Bylat-Team.

That crosshair with the circle, then drag over any units you can see while your squad is selected.

They'll only prioritize if an individual soldier in that squad, or their CO actually sees the target with their own eyes. LOTS of things block vision, like smoke, dust, plants obviously. If you turn on sight visualizer for a squad after they fire a large weapon you can see it blocks out a large cone for a few seconds etc.

As for the gun, in Mius front they use a lot of captured Russian weapons like they did. You get a good amount of Russian 76mm cannons too, as well as some soldiers using PPSh.

New people don't forget to change options to simulator setting if you want to be a real grognard. You can also change the engagement map size limit to unlimited, which I'm not completely sure what it does honestly. Think it just makes the tactical battle zone much bigger

He hosts 1v1 destructions on Paddy Field.

My friend rolled him twice in a row and got sperged at for "spam" despite using less units than him.

I then proceeded to join his game a few hours later, rolled him and was sperged at for spam, again despite using less units than him. He proceeded to ban and block me, assuming that I was my friend.

Not really. The buffs were pretty nice for both sides. Personally, my M-8's have gotten a LOT more viability, it feels like. Especially now that lighter tanks are a lot more common. I prefer to play NATO and I think it's pretty good to see more slavshit diversity because it allows me to have more diversity instead of having to focus on countering heavies all the time.

Was it at night? Anyway, the T34s tend to be fairly blind when the target isnt in front of them iirc, dunno if they have radios either in MF, therefore having units near them would be optimal because they'll relay what they see to the tanks.
As for the vision thing, you WILL be fooled by the terrain unless you reach ground level to see how it is.
The AT cannons can make or break the match. I had a single 75mm taking care of like 10 T34s and a couple of KV1s at 1.5km. Just position them on hills with some cover and dont move them unless you really need to. Use the "rotate" and "priority target" functions instead of "attack".
As for the "it takes too fucking long for the arty strike to begin", the time the order needs to be executed is tied with how far the spotter and commander are.

I had a similar encounter in my recent campaign in Operation Star. Only had 7 T-34 a T-60 and 5 infantry squads. My tip is to ALWAYS use a terrain advantage that can hunker your t-34s.

In my instance I placed all of my infantry as bait and used 5 of my T-34s to flank their attacking force from behind by taking the enemies sloped flank. Sure all of the Infantry died but thats the life in the Red Army

1-If it is big enough it can ford small rivers making bridges unnecessary.
2-large threads = better mud resistance (as in what happened to panzers vs t-34s with large tracks)
Others all depend on the level of technology.
Also keep in mind that you are getting double or triple amount of armor tanks have access to. Changing the game copletely.

All in all i think they will have their use when tech gets high enough and things get more streamlined to support it in meaningfull numbers. If you consider the fact that a single fucker with access to tow or milan can fuck up modern tanks easily there must be a counter measure to it in the future that does not exist reliably currently. See all the vids of isis blowing up abrams tanks.

>Good engineers
Severely debateable. They're meticulous, but have a lot of really, really stupid ideas about what constitutes a reliable war machine. Let alone one that can be produced in both sustainable and realistic numbers to be of any actual use against opponents that have fully equipped armies capable of actually putting up a fight conventionally.

>Make a tank model
>Produce the model
>Model breaks down
>Go to fix it with the parts you were supplied
>Suddenly find out that half your tanks all have differing parts despite being the same model because their schematics apparently change depending on what factory made them.
>The tank itself is also wildly prone to breaking down due to trying to do too much with too little.
>Also they're expensive as fuck both monetarily and in resource requirements.

>Then wonder why they get utterly seal clubbed by far cheaper, much more simplisticly designed machines that are more reliable, cheaper, easier to make, and easier to fix.

>Ford small rivers
Regular MBTs can already do this. You waste time setting up snorkel, pressurizing the compartments and so on, when a regular tank can keep moving over the bridge.
>large treads will defeat mud
I don't think you understand how often tanks get stuck. Wide tracks as a means to maneuver through thick mud depends on power and weight ratios. Having a big tonk then throwing big ass treads on it is not good design. Besides this, you have to deal with difficult terrain, which is made harder when you're really fucking big and slow.
>Double/Triple the armour
Then someone will just drop a JDAM or bunker busting bomb on your ass. If it doesn't outright rek the tank, then the crew will be non-serviceable.

Doing maintenance on the Leo2 is hard enough as it is, working with even more parts on a bigger tank is a nightmare. Maint on a tank either requires 1-2 guys working, because it's hard to access the part, or needs everyone pulling their weight since pieces are fucking heavy.

>>135213708

>>
>>135213879
Nope. Only if you need opened hatch or whatever.
>>
>>135213879
Tankers do for several reasons. One of them is because our military doesn't have decent filter systems on our tanks in the first place, so you mask up incase the pressure system gets a leak.

There's also the chance of it coming down the tube as you load a new round in, although there's a lever to prevent the breach from opening and kicking the shell out.

I can only guess self-propelled arty works similar, although countries that actually invest in their equipment might have workarounds.

It's already hot as hell in the turret, working in a bunnysuit would suck bigtime and I can only imagine the fun time the gunner and commander would have trying to look their their sights with gas mask bug eyes.
>>
>>135214660
>There's also the chance of it coming down the tube as you load a new round in, although there's a lever to prevent the breach from opening and kicking the shell out.

Not if the NBC system is working, overpressure will constantly push air out the barrel, the Leclerc uses this to evacuate the bore instead of a barrel-mounted bore evacuator.
>>
>>135214067
That's the reason why I added the warning. As I said, I got it from there months ago. The OS is still working without side effects, made sure of it by running the AV, Malware bytes and some other stuff. No positives.
>>
>>135214975
I can't remember exactly if the Leo2 overpressure system can keep outside air from coming back in or not, I'll have to dig up my manuals.

Regardless, our instructors said normal practice is to have bunnysuits on, just in case.

Towed howitzers are bad enough. I was field artillery for 3 years, myself. We end up having to keep all the ammunition and powder in our trucks both for the sake of ease and to keep them dry. Having an open top artillery piece would be retarded as shit and you'd have to ride around with a tarp always covering shit. It was bad enough having to get out, emplace the piece, then have a 'ready rack' set up by the howitzer with constant back and forth to the truck.

I'm convinced towed shit only still exists because it's air-liftable. Working on a M777 section kinda sucks shit compared to working in a Paladin.
>>
>>135217013
If weight is the issue, then perhaps stuff like the CEASAR and G6 will help kill the towed gun, being lighter and thus air mobile, unlike the traditional tracked, armored SPG.

two questions for mius:
is it normal that nights are so bright? can i turn them into real dark nights?

the enemy is covering me in flares to get some visibility, how i do the same? i was thinking that the arty spotters could do that, but i can only shoot HE and smoke rounds
>>
>>135223441
Pretty much. Air lifting is the only redeeming quality of towed. SPG's load faster, shoot more accurately, require smaller crews, and are just plain easier to operate with.
>>
>>135224038

Some arty has flare ammo to choose. Nights appear bright, I think someone is making a mod for it. But it doesn't really matter since it's dark to the game units and you only see what their eyes do in terms of enemy
>>
>>135224038
The darker night thing is addressed here:http://steamcommunity.com/app/312980/discussions/0/405694115211560552/
I liked the really pitch black nights in OS, they were nice. Hope that mod comes quick.
Different types of arty gets different ammo. I think howitzers and mortars let you use flares. Use the battle editor and experiment, its pretty fun.
>>
>>135215292

That is... how overpressure works. The pressure in the tank is higher than the pressure outside, if there are any holes in the tank ( there obviously is ) then air flows out of them

Drove a lone M1A2 back to his spawn with no recon and lost it.

I don't know man, I ordered a rifle platoon to attack a trench line, one russian dude just runs up and when he reaches the trenches he just cowers, then a german runs up next to him and cowers next to him. Wish i took a screenshot, was too busy laughing.
>>
>>135258074

The Russian soldier was probably on meth
>>
>>135203960

>How do I get mortars to actually go? They target but sit and do nothing.

You have use the commanding unit, for example if you have a 5,cm mortar or something, click on the platoon commander and then on the bombardment icon, it looks like a big shell thats about to hit the ground. Use that and any guns within his command will open fire. You can also use that with tanks and stuff.

>How do I use the phone people?

Just put them somewhere next to your battalion commander, they'll set up the wires themselves. If you move em it'll break the wires but they'll set them up after a while again.

>How to use the logistic trucks?

I dunno? I don't think you can resupply during battle, maybe you can use them for transport.

>Where to put officers?

Somewhere where they can be heard by their men and have good los over the battle.

I'm pretty new myself but I think thats how it works.

That happens because (I think, i'm not sure) your units are always constantly scanning 360 degrees and shit goes down fast they get confused, you can avoid this by using Set Priority Target and the cone thing to make them focus in a single direction, but sometimes they just don't give a fuck and shoot at whatever scares them the most.

I've been fairly successful on defense missions due sheer placement of my units, but how the fuck do you attack without fuckton of losses? Also, what are those rectangles you've drawn at 2:59 - 3:01?

Different anon here, I would suggest lots of artillery, just shell them until you've taken out all of their guns and/or mortars, but honestly you are going to take casualties either way when attacking, just make sure to keep your men in as much cover as possible.

>Also, what are those rectangles you've drawn at 2:59 - 3:01?

Those are the off map artillery markers. He made it so that the artillery will try to fire in a line rather in a circle.

A boat's maximum speed is governed in part by how long the boat is. The longer the boat, the greater the maximum speed.. Tanks tend to get slower instead of faster when made larger.

Also, a tank is in change of moveing all of its weight almost all of the time. A boat gets to 'cheat' on this front and offset a great deal of its weight with buoyancy.

Just apply the iso fix, nothing bad will happen, not even a warning from the AV. Also, why dont just play Mius Front? Currently Im playing it on a shitty laptop with 28fps average except for some zones where it drops to 22, so you should get more FPS than me. Everything on min, of course.
>>
>>135365184
Not him but Mius Front only pertains to WW2 for now. Operation Star has DLCs that expand to the cold war era like Shield of the Prophet and Operation Hopper.

By 0750 hours, most German positions have been captured and at least one of the Soviet battalions are resupplying before they begin forest-sweeping operations. The DAG support and Frontal Aviation are still an hour out.

I think I'm going to keep the OOB for the NATO version, and then modify the OOB significantly for the warsaw pact version, bringing the BTR MRR to full strength but trading the Tank regiment for an Indpt. Tank Battalion. The RAG will also probably be shortened from 2 battalions of 2S1/D-30 to one battalion of 2S1 supported by a single 2S3 battery.

By 0957 hours, the battalion at Hartenholm has pushed out, destroying the remaining Leopard tanks and securing the crossroads at their secondary objective.

The rather stubborn defenders at Bockhorn are finally broken by the arrival of a tank battalion.

Bad Segeberg is completely secured by now.
Follow-on forces moved up the A21 to search for enemy rear elements: Two batteries of M109A3G are wiped out. The last one, and a rather dangerous battalion of rocket artillery are still on the loose. Air strikes would be used, but bad weather is making things rather difficult.

At this stage, we're simply mopping up what's left of the enemy.

Unlike Red Dragon however, successive patches modify the AI's coding, so they behave better with each new version. The computer opponent right now is not a good defender, but absolutely can attack with some degree of organization. It will counter-battery your artillery (very efficiently) and use it's air strikes primarily to disrupt C3 rather than trying to hit your armies. The Scenario editor allows you to somewhat modify and contain it's behavior (Ie. adjusting arrival times, setting them as inert until encountered, etc.)

Subunit AI is another ballgame, and it is also being worked on, but usually it's dumb as bricks as well.

1041 hours in, the West German commander sends a coded message to the Soviet commander detailing his surrender.

Casualties on either side have been very high - more wounded and damaged than outright killed, as usual. Soviet forces suffered 34% casualties, but only 19% are permanent losses.

The West Germans on the other hand have suffered 70% casualties, 42% permanent. In addition, they have lost all their objectives, save for the one at Heidmühlen.

Overall, the VP balance is in the Soviet favor - 70% - a tactical victory. High casualties however deny a total victory of 80%.

Casualties total:
Soviets:
WIA or MIA: 663
26 Tanks and 33 APCs, 14 SP artillery, 14 towed artillery pieces, 22 trucks damaged or abandoned.
KIA: 363
22 Tanks, 22 APCs, 12 trucks destroyed and one hind shot down.

West Germans:
WIA or MIA: 598
7 Tanks, 22 APCs, 1 Artillery piece and 30 trucks damaged. One helo forced to land.
KIA: 585
19 Tanks, 28 APCs, 15 SP Artillery, 1 Artillery piece, 46 trucks destroyed. Six Heloes shot down and one F-4 Phantom shot down.
Captured: 430 men, 2 Tanks, 11 APCs, 3 helicopters, 19 artillery/mortars, 9 trucks, 23 officers.

Casualty ratio: 1:1.15 in favor of Soviets.

Sorry for the delay, was testing that I havent broken anything. Ran some tests using as comparison points the patched version and the v1.0. I've successfuly patched the v1.0 to the patch 2 (the one in the google drive from the previous thread). Its kinda tedious but it just takes 10 mins to isolate the files.
On the bright side, the patch 2 is 32mb once its compressed. Now, on the annoying side, you would need a comparison point. The pirate version of the game (v1.0) should suffice. As for the tool to do it, Winmerge works. Exam Diff could work too but I havent tested it yet.

Commas are only used in lists? Well, gee.
I'm sure pointing out supposed grammar flaws like a 12 year old will help your argument.

>calling aspects of the game "crutches" and deriding people who use them isn't whining
It isn't, if you need to spam arty or rely on it heavily you clearly don't have a grasp on basic tactics.
It's an easy way out, therefore a crutch.

>prefers the game mode where the only way to win is out-snipe your opponent and which places a massive disincentive on any kind of forward movement or large scale pushing
Holy shit this is 100% shitter thinking. Thinking TD comes down to 'sniping' means you're a complete shitter and there's no denying it.

>not liking the game mode that rewards superior teamwork and planning
So lets get this straight, the gamemode where you think making an offensive is stupid and will most likely net a negative score doesn't reward superior teamwork and planning allowing for a breakthrough or anything of that sort. Amazing, more shitter logic.
Also
>supporting metagaming
>spam
>planning

>">making money with no sectors capped, insentivizing panic spam when spawns are threatened"
>dude wat

So you don't even know how conquest works. I'll enlighten you, then.
You make money with nothing capped in Conquest. You make a set amount. Always.

>liking getting your spawn overrun(?)
You should repel assaults on your spawn in a sane manner, not by capping it for a millisecond and shitting out a million helicopters or jets.

>">incentivizing spam and fodder units"
>jager are verboten in destruction

Dude lmao jager is the only way to spam or use fodder.

So lets wrap this up, you don't know how to play TD, you don't know how to play conquest or how it works, you don't know what the meta is, and you think spamming Jager across an open field like you do in conquest will net good results in destruction.

And you tell me to git gud. Comedy.

Alright, had enough time to gather my thoughts and make something easier to read.

How to make patch for Mius Front
1- Get Winmerge and the 7zip addon
2- Get Pirate copy of Mius Front, CODEX release should suffice
3- Use Winmerge, Open: Left for Steam release, right for pirate release
4- Compare, sort by Comparison Result
5- Select all the " *** files are different "
5.1- Keep an eye on the "Left only" section if the devs decide to add something on newer patches
6- Right click > 7z > Left
7- Save file and you're done

The result will be something around 40mb.

Now you're going on about raging that never happened, which affirms your 12 year old behavior. And calling me an autist.

>TD with time limit = Sniping.
>TD no time limit = Who has more units in their deck?
Neither of those situations are what happens when either team is good at all. You are clearly not.

>Not understanding that moving large concentrations of units out over open ground in destruction is a quick way to lose
Not what happens if you have any idea what you're doing and understand basic tactics. Kind of said that earlier.

>Only capping your spawn in conquest
That is far from the point and not what I said. You can crush someone in conquest, push them all the way to their spawn and it doesn't matter. All they need is to have their spawn capped for a second and they can shit out an assload of aircraft and completely fuck over any occupying force.

>Do you even gud, bro?

Better than you, and I don't have to rely on pubstomping to get my winrate up.

Again, no one said use more infantry than vehicles. What the anon who called you out on you tank usage was trying to say is that having a higher percentage of tank use than infantry use is not a good sign. And saying that he brought infantry WITHOUT FIRE SUPPORT implies you brought a bunch of infantry and nothing else with any kind of ordinance dispersal mechanism. How much clearer can it be?

>Using more infantry than vehicles is a sign of a shitter.

Are we talking vehicle tab only or anything with an engine in it? Or maybe just tanks? Because if it's tanks, then having a higher percentage in that category compared to the infantry category is a sure sign you'll quit the minute I clip your second M1A2.
>>
>>135430715
If you want to go full autism you can also rename the group, since those type of formations were never called "Red Storm", it would be "Operativnaya Gruppa %Name_of_the_group_commander%", for instance in WW2 there was an OG Yermakov, smaller than a division, but containing several tank and cavalry units, commanded by general-major Yermakov.
>>
>>135468640
Yeah, but generally I'm following what the devs do and naming the top HQ "BG Red Storm". For some reason only the NATO factions get individual names, such as "TF Rhino" or "TF EET (Eyes, Ears and Teeth)", "KG Rommel".
>>
>>135468835
Well, maybe because there is no tradition in Soviet Army to make fancy names for their groups. They only get named only by commander or location names. Also, stumbled upon a 1989 Soviet actual field manual, gonna look for some interesting tactical schemes to bump with.
>>
>>135468549

> What the anon who called you out on you tank usage was trying to say is that having a higher percentage of tank use than infantry use is not a good sign
Says fucking who? I've posted my stats and so has another anon, who agrees that skilled destruction gameplay is highly mobile and requires tanks.
The infantry meta revolves around conquest shitters.

>saying that he brought infantry WITHOUT FIRE SUPPORT implies you brought a bunch of infantry and nothing else
Or, MAYBE, it was a simple explanation as to why I don't use much infantry. Because I use them effectively in conjunction with fire support, so I don't lose them and need to replace them. In no way implying that he doesn't use it, or that he only uses infantry because I wasn't even talking about his use of infantry.

> Because if it's tanks, then having a higher percentage in that category compared to the infantry category is a sure sign you'll quit the minute I clip your second M1A2.

Flashpoint Campaigns is less clunky UI-wise.

What is it you are looking for from a wargame?
>>
>>135497212
Also, note that FPRS is smaller scale, you have much less units in command than Modern Campaigns.
>>
>>135496362
I don't see how that's any different from destruction. If anything, destruction is far worse about that whole trenching shit because it punishes you far harder for going on offense.
>>
>>135497320
I'm looking for FUN that comes from realism.
The feeling of accomplishment.
A game that will require you to think and not just point and click.
But above all realism.
Something that will make me a tactician.
Go soft on me, I know it sounds naive.
>>
>>135498194
Then both are okay, but FPRS is more user-friendly. Modern Combat is basically operational level, while FPRS is more tactical.
>>
>>135497419
It's plenty different from destruction. For one, in those games, there's no incentive for you to capture and hold territory if you can just cheese the opener and then de-cap the enemy spawn. Some ranked conquest matches people have bothered to post here recently have shown that. When people actually play to capture and hold, it works pretty well.

The flaw with destruction is that, as the match drags on, offensive moves can grind to a halt as people spend more on air power and arty. You need to capture territory in the beginning, but by the mid-game it's all about maximum gain for minimum effort rather than pushing to capture more.

How about something like Steel Panthers MBT? Probably my favourite hex-based wargame because of the sheer scope of what it includes.

Basically every conflict between 1950-2020, with new ones being patched in. WW3 in Europe? Go for it. 6 day war? You got it famalam. Operation Dingo 1977? Rhodesians never die m8. Battle over Donetsk Airport in 2015? Included as well.

Basically it's a virtual box of toy soldiers you can mash together. Pic related was a battle where I played as an ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Sweden) motorised warband riding Toyota pickups into Finland with a platoon of cucked STRVs, being held off by Spurdos.

A Soviet tank regiment is facing an uneasy task: the area is full of rivers, that can potentially form killzones for British armor, as well as battalions, creating bridges might be a good target for all sorts of air and artillery assets, while our troops have nothing but a few mortars and helis.

A couple of hours later, the first enemy contact was made, when British SAMs launched three missiles at my Mi-24s. All of the Hinds survived and hid behind a hill.

3rd tank battalion was given a task to secure Eicken and provide fire support from 4th motorifle battalion, assaulting through their positions to Melle, using hill to the north as a cover.
1st tank battalion, secured the bridgehead at Gerden and is readying for a straight-forward assault when the infantry reaches the town.

2nd tank battalion to the south is standing still, can't decide, use it to penetrate up to Wellingholzhasusen or turn north to Melle through Schlochtern.

First engagement went better than expected: T-80s are pretty good, an ambush of 8 Challenger's 1 was broken down, 4 tanks and 1 Ferret recce destroyed, with 3 T-80BVs fallen out.
Meanwhile 1st battalion, finally able to establish a second bridgehead was ordered to assault through the town as few resistance inside the town is expected and infantry is pulling in too slowly.

And I still have one more time to clear up. I used my remaining orders to order my 2nd tank battalion to get to Gesmold from the south, through Wellingholzhausen. Wish them luck, since 3rd and 4th battalion suffered so many losses I can rely only on the other two.

Pretty FUBAR on my BMPs due to Pyrrhic bridgehead capture, but overall situation looks good. I have 3 and a half hours to get rid of British imperialists and capture the other bridgeheads. 21 Challengers vs 17 (13 fallen outs) T-80BVs is pretty good, but infantry had a hard time.

I'd second that guy and say both are good, you can pirate both from RuTracker and check them out yourself.

Modern Campaign has a bit quirky interface, but once you get used to it it's rather efficient. Also if you'll get to it always play "alt" versions of scenarios - they have updated OOB and stuff.

FCRS is more dynamic and generally easier to have fun with. Also looks more cute.

It has fairly detailed mechanics and really huge OOBs, although being purely turn-based is a minus when it comes to tactical scope battles. Also AI is braindead, if you want anything resembling realism - play attack and assault battles only.

Had tons of fun with it and it's predecessor like 10 years ago, including PBEM. Playing retired armymen while being 15 myself was an interesting experience.

Also, if you'll decide to try it I can post the way to make a licenced version (with resolutions up to 1080p and some extra features), its really simple.

They're doing some flanking thing and I'm alt tabbing in and out. Haven't attacked me yet. In a previous night battle in the same spot, with that 37mm it took out a few t34s and then they retreated though. Hoping it'll do well on its own this time
>>
>>135533529
What's the optimal spot to place the 37mm? The 75mm just railguns them but I doubt the 37mm can do the same.
On the other hand, I've been having issues with the infantry attached to the AT guns. For some reason they get glitched where they get deployed, being unable to move. This obviously means I cant move the AT gun either, which is beyond annoying.
>>
>>135534943

on this map I've placed it behind a thin tree line, which is to the left of a large road the tanks like to use.

The AT gun has a very narrow vision on the road, but it fires enough and it means it's hitting the side of the tanks, at least the first few shots until they turn. They pretty much never spot the AT gun so far due to the tree line and shallow trench the gun is in
>>
>>135534943

Also, due to the placement it brings the tanks within 300m before my gun starts shooting at them. Also have a group with a flamer unit in it on the North. Last battle here they marched through the trees with tanks and my flamer killed 1 and injured another driver tank

At 0400 hours, July 21st, 1989, Soviet forces cross the border between West and East Germany at Bad Neustadt an der Saale. The strike comes after months of diplomatic maneuvering by the Soviet Union to fool NATO into believing it is withdrawing east from the German Democratic Republic, but in reality it is advancing west, into the Federal Republic of Germany.

Leading the Soviet advance is 17th Guards Tank Regiment of the 79th Guards Tank Division. The Operational group consists of two Tank battalions and 1 MRB, supported by a recon company, AT company, AA company, two batteries of 2S3 Akatsiya, and finally an airstrike section of MiG-23MF.
Unit Totals:
62x T-80U (No T-80Us were stationed in Europe at this time, these much more likely would be T-80BV or T-80B.)
34x BMP-2 obr. 1989
9x BRDM-2
9x BRDM-2 Konkurs
14x 2S3 Akatsiya
3x 2K22 Tunguska
3x BTR-ZD Skrezhet (What the fuck?)
3x BTR-60PU
4x MT-LBu
4x BMP-Ksh
2x MiG-23MF w/ 2x KH-66, 64 S-5K rockets each

Opposing us is the 2nd Squadron, 11th ACR. In a twist of fate, the last unit of the regiment to leave Vietnam is the first to be set upon by the Soviet horde. At 0400 hours, 122mm and 152mm shells fall upon Camp Lee like steel rain and alert the 2nd Squadron to action.
B, C, R Troops: M3A1 Bradley
A, D Troops: M1A1HA Abrams
Unit Totals:
22x M3A1 Bradley
23x M1A1HA Abrams
6x HMMWV AOP
3x M106A2
2x M113A2
2x M577

Version is 2.0.11.2, an open beta for the next version of Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm. The patch introduces new features, support for map .jpgs rather than .pngs, balance changes, AI behavior fixes, and bug fixes.

Changes from the previous beta version, 2.0.11.1, fixed some issues for the Warsaw Pact side, namely fixing a bug for helicopters that rendered them effectively useless, and fixing the HE levels of NATO artillery pieces that previously allowed them to wipe out companies of pact units in one barrage.

In the pregame, at 0400 hours, I advance the Soviet forces to their positions as seen in the first image. When the game begins, I pick a "Side", that is the side of the map that will offer me the most VP location points for the least amount of efforts. In this instance, I decide that the 4000 point objective and two 1500 point objectives around Bad Neustadt itself will offer me the most, against the 3000 point objective at Camp Lee and two 1500 point objectives along the road.

Forces are divided into two groups: Main force, and recon assets. The recon assets consist of the recon company, and the AT company. Their objective is not only to scout the northern side of the map, but to also draw NATO forces there, making them believe that I intend to strike from the east, and thus drawing their forces. A short half-hour skirmish erupts: Six BRDM-2s, three with Konkurs launchers, cross the Saale amphibiously at Heustreu and secure the 1500 point objective there, immediately drawing the attention of two humvees, an Abrams platoon, and a troop of M3A1 Bradley. The Humvee section, HQ section containing an Abrams, and a Bradley section are all destroyed by the combined firepower of the Konkurs BRDM-2s and Soviet Artillery support. An Abrams platoon blunders into open view and suffers two losses to Konkurs fire before they enter Heustreu and destroy all six BRDM-2s in that town, re-securing the 1500 objective point. This is a marked difference from 2.0.10bs where dedicated Soviet AT units were rather useless.

UAV Reconnaissance assets have shown earlier that all six bridges across the Saale have been destroyed. I surmise that NATO thus has no forces on my side of the bank, and move the main body into it's staging area, south of Bad Neustadt.

The rest of the BRDM-2s cross the Saale and are immediately engaged by large amounts of NATO forces at Camp Lee. A Bradley Troop, Abrams troop, and Abrams company wipe them out to the last vehicle, which however is a success for me, as it means I have successfully drawn NATO forces away from the real focus of my attack, as well as giving the artillery plenty of targets. Artillery is ordered to raze Camp Lee.

Meanwhile, the tank battalions of the main body are resupplied and ready to go. At 0700 hours they are ordered to move, and timed so that every company of the main body arrives on the river bank at the exact same time of 0723 hours. Once the combat engineers (abstracted) establish the bridges, they will swam into Bad Neustadt and secure the 7000 total objective points there. The MRB is still resupplying.

The MRB is resupplied and awaits orders. I keep them as the second echelon, arriving at 0756 hours as opposed to the 0723 of the rest of the main body. At this time, FASCAM is laid on the roads leading towards Bad Neustadt to cut off any NATO reinforcements while also assisting in the establishment of a defensive position.

Airstrikes and Artillery claim several losses among the Americans at Camp Lee. Without any counterbattery assets or air defense assets beyond the Stinger, they're as helpless as a babe set upon by wolves.

The following combat is short and brutal. A platoon of Bradleys is caught off guard and silenced by a dozen tank guns while they cross the Saale. Flushing out the town, no defenders are found within it, rather they are all caught moving north and east as the feint continues to fool them. Before he knows what is going on, the NATO commander suffers the further loss of three Bradleys and two Humvees. A locally responding M1A1HA platoon is immediately caught in the FASCAM and obliterated by gun fire, but not before they claim three T-80Us themselves. A fourth is claimed by TOW fire. Another Abrams platoon is identified at Camp Lee and it begins trading shots with the T-80Us... at 3.5km.

Another Abrams platoon charges down the northern road and through the FASCAM, directly into the maw of the defending T-80Us. They claim 2 T-80Us but are vaporzied at 2km by the fire of 15 guns.
Mortar fire begins blanketing the town, neutralizing 3 BMP-2s.

Further north, the MiG-23's strafing runs now make it clear that an entire company of Abrams is holed up around Camp Lee. Airstrikes and artillery continue to pound their position, claiming 1-3 losses every strike. The dueling platoon of M1A1HAs is destroyed by Refleks fire and then joined by a second, itself also being destroyed by Refleks fire.

The reserve MRC advances to opportunistically claim another 1500 point objective at the northern bank.

The MiGs clean up what's left of the Abrams, while the BMP-2s run headlong into a section of Bradleys and destroy them without any casualties.
Without any sufficient forces to crack the Soviets' defensive positions, the remaining American elements retreat from the sector. Soviet battlefield influence at this stage is so great, that the sheer weight of their forces capture the rest of the VPs on the map. The game ends in a 95% victory for the Soviet forces.

So apparently Focus Interactive's other RTS developer is releasing a game version of the WH40k Battlefleet Gothic boardgame. The demo/beta is out now and it's receiving universal praise from /tg/ for its loving recreation of a ded tabletop, along with the good production values of the game itself considering the budget.

If it does well what do you think are the chances that Focus will bully Eugen into making a 40k Epic video game instead of Wargame 4.

This thread brought back some memories, so I'm going to post some juicy hexes from WinSPMBT until my autism supply runs out.

I will be playing a random generated campaign as DDR against US Army, GB, FRG in 1988. Initial core forces are on the picture. First battle is a meeting engagemnt with FRG. Infantry toughness is set to 70%, Artillery effectivess to 200%.

I expect it to be a hard one - since its late 80s I presume there will lots of modern MBTs and the only thing I have that has a slight chance head-on is a platoon of semi-modern T-72s. Other AT assets just can't penetrate them from the front. Probably I'll get lend some armoured help from Russian comrades later on. To be honest I don't expect that I'll be able to ace this one, but we'll see how it goes.

Für die Leute!

Somehow I've messed things up and I'm actually fighting US this time. No big deal.

Map is full of woods, on one hand it gives a chance for my motorshutzen to land a flank shot with their RPGs, on the other - It's hard to move reinforcements from one flank to another and ATGMs become highly situational. Anyway, I expect enemy push to come via two main roads in the sought and in the north.

In the south I won't even try to advance - just some scouting action. But I will try to set up a proper ambush. I really hope that enemy armour comes down this road since they'll open up their flanks to my ATGMs and T-55.
>>
Middle will be covered by a MG platoon and T-72 platoon. Generally I consider these my reserve, T-72 will march out as soon as armored push is localized.

Here is another thing that can potentially hard enemy armour - Akatsias with some cluster munitions. Though I don't expect much from them - handling artillery here is rather hard, you can reliably hit feet troops, but armor is just too quick. Also accuracy is rather poor even with LOS from a spotter.

Artillery striked without visible effect, and I have first losses - recon UAZ with a recon squad. Also enemy opened up his mortars with some completely random strikes here and there. Ordered a MRLS strike on top of them.

But that's not the main news - just as I expected, enemy has top-level MBTs, I've already spotted a couple of M1A1 in the south. Moving my T-72s there right away.

Oh my. According to stats even those T-72 can't penetrate M1A1's frontal projection at point blank range, bar for some lucky critical shot.

Those M1 act pretty careless turning their backs to my side, too bad I haven't moved anything with ranged AT a bit closer to enemy side of the map. Also they seem to change axis of approach so it's entirely possibe they won't fall into my trap and I'll have to fight them head on. Hopefully there's just two of them and they won't plough through my defences until the game ends.

Finally some enemy armor got into my trap. Lost 3 BMP-2, destroyed 2 M1A1 and one is immobilized. Won't be surprised if the one remaining will take all my T-72s to hell next turn though.

And I've stopped paying attention to other parts of the map - this game can be really tiring. Will stop the battle once that ambush situation ends.

Shiet, what's up with this "image replies limit"? Isn't it a fucking imageboard?

I guess I'll stop then.

It depends on the stats really, don't know why you think this way. T-55 won't be able to hard M1 no matter how hard you try, other way round it's always a OHK. When it comes to say T-80U vs M1A1 then yes, its other story - at 2k+ distance they can trade shots for quite a long time without achieving a penetration. At long distances it's mostly OHK too.

Aah, you meant artillery hits, sorry wasn't paying attention.

Yes, thats partly the reason I play with artillery damage set to 200%. I've learned in the aftermatch that DDR's version of Grad barrage immobilized one Abrams - that's a big success already. And battle itself was a draw, luckly I had enough points to restore almost all core units, so I guess the war's not over yet.

All in all Akatsias were pretty dissapointing, while MRLS managed to wipe out few squads. And I had a little moment of rage when enemy mortars destroyed my spotter squad and it's vehicle.

FCRS's artillery seems to be much more devastating - I remember a mission where you are defending as the Britain against a blob of enemy tanks and somewhere near the end of the battle when the onslaught is imminent few batteries of M109 with FASCAM and minelets appear. Loved how they stopped huge enemy formation dead in its tracks.
