the most cancerous thing about hearts of iron games, is that population is completely irrelevant. it doesn't even exist to begin with as a mechanic. only indirectly via the manpower pool. thus, a luxemburg with 10 factories will be able to produce way more than a china with 2 factories. now that i think of it, factories are a stat. they don't even need to be manned. you can actually have more factories than your population.

the absolute best way of simulating production, factories and population belongs to victoria 2. unless hearts of iron 4 takes some ideas from it, it is going to be their 4th cancerous game of the series

How can I encourage internal migration in Victoria 2? I'm playing as Australia and I've got huge stacks of pops not assimilating because there's no Australian pops in the province for them to assimilate to.

Hey /gsg/ so I have had a recurring issue with HOI3 that has been on and off.

The game will crash when starting up, so I delete my map cache, and it always crashes when generating between quads 2000-3000, never the same one though each time I delete the cache and start again.

Before I would do a bunch of crap to try and fix it, give up for a couple days, then try and it would randomly work. But then the issue will pop up again at some point and ill be screwed all over.

Im not running any mods. and am using podcats LAA exe for TFH.

I have an older rig so maybe thats the issue. its running windows XP 16bit sp3 with AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+, 2gb of ram, and a nvidia geforce gts 250 graphics card.

any thoughts would be great, google has been less than helpful for this specific issue.

Transportation, immigration focus and I let rebels and the French do what they wanted with the countryside, I could have gotten way more Germans there but I released in 1860 to roleplay the Kaiser fleeing to Africa to preserve the absolute monarchy when I couldn't hold Berlin from socialists anymore. It was still only 20% german before I started genociding though.

I never did post the end of this game, I kept the absolute monarchy and was briefly a GP after I cut Japan down to size, otherwise just comfyness though.

I imagine you've checked the starting morale, discipline, and generals; these are big. another big thing is if you're choosing offensive unit types and then playing defensively.

Outsides of CAGs and naval bombers, the air forces in the Hearts of Iron games feel useless. I thought that this period was supposed to show everyone how important it was to have air cover, instead it just proves to be a slight annoyance at best, and that's only if you don't turn off the messages alerting you of bombardments and casualties.

I've adopted a simple strategy: push relentlessly in the center (mostly plains, favorable to my armor) in the hopes of getting to the Elbe, while eating away at the org of low quality but numerically superior Russian infantry. I'll simply hold in the South, occasionally using my armor to harass the enemy and chip at the org, and let the North progress as it will. There's no way for me to shift troops to really help them.

I will prioritize attacking soft targets, where my mechanized and armored forces are vastly superior. This is where the soviet organization will take the biggest hits. If I can draw them into org-costly battles (ideally ones where they rush to fill the gap after a loss and just end up sending 1 or 2 divisions into the province at a time to get slaughtered after the initial battle), I will hopefully be able to push across the Elbe in short order by picking the most battle-weary divisions to assault. Once across the Elbe, I can attempt to make a straight shot to Berlin and the Baltic coast. Once the capital falls, the DDR should pull out of the war, and as we move northwards the Soviet supply lines will be thrown into chaos. If I can manage to spare them, I will take some divisions off of clean up duty in Germany at this point and see if i can take advantage of the Soviet panic to push towards Poland and Warsaw.

I god to god those divisions are motorized. I remember invading France with foot infantry in Kaiserrech and what a slog that was. In DH I'm normally able to liberate everything up to the would-be Soviet states because I put it off so long that Germany is nearly totally committed in the East. Takes me a long time to adequetly build up my ground forces cause pre-war and early war I'm so focused on building the navy and fucking up Japan.
