Play 1, 3 and 4. You can try 2 and the reboot if you're curious but don't feel obliged to finish them or anything, they're widely regarded as pretty shit.

3 and 4 are very different games to 1, though they're generally considered the best two from a very technical and gameplay-oriented viewpoint. Series is great though, I'm glad you're enjoying it.

It's an incredibly incomplete game - less than half of it is really there in terms of content. You also start playing as a completely different character to Dante which split opinions at the time, furthermore the entire second half of the game is literally the first half in reverse playing as Dante instead of the new character, Nero.

In spite of that, the combat system itself is sublime. Fortunately that at least was complete in terms of functionality (There's still a lack of weapons and moves compared to 3) but it brings a lot to the table. It's a game you will love for its combat, and probably its combat alone. If you're just casually playing through the series you might not enjoy it as much.

I think that the "consensus" that 3 is the best DMC is filled with rose tinted glass - especially from casuals (literally nothing wrong with being casuals though) who only play DMC "for the story."

People bitch and moan all the time about the Chimeras being annoying, the Bianca Angelo buttfuck airstab being unfair, or the sword-ground fish being badly designed for Dante, but due to the breadh of toolsets that Dante has he can always handle all of those situations.

DMC3 in comparison is very limited. You'll see combo video for M1, M2, and M6 for perma-DT'd enemy but what about the rest of the mission? Compared to Mephistos and Fausts, the Fallens are way way more unfair, random and there's a chance that they'll float offscreen for 2 minutes ruining your time. How about Bloodgoyles? Does anyone remember Geryon the literally who ghost horse cart boss? How about recycled rooms towards the end in M15,16 etc. Also M18 in DMC3 is just a boss rush mission similar to M19 in DMC4.

I'm not trying to start a flamewar here, I've put 200 hours into DMC3 and about 1000 hours into DMC4. It's like splitting hair between two of your favorite food. All I want to say is that DMC3 also had its flaws, the game (or rather the "exploration" part of the game) did become repetitive and ran out of steam towards the middle part of it (of course it did end in a high note with Arkham boss and Vergil 3 though). Finally, DTE and the lack of forced encounter kind of trivialize the enemy. Like why bother fighting a room full of Bloodgoyles, when you can just farm for style points next door to get an S rank with DTE on a room full of sloths punching bags?

Then play DmC and prepare to be amazed at how terrible it is. 1 is a sort of weirdly aged game but nonetheless a good and respectable experience. 3 is fantastic, 4 is a mixed bag but you should be able to find it enjoyable to just hit things anyway.

I'm your host, News-chan, and today we'll be looking at action game releases for the Spring season. So without further ado, here's some possible Cuhrayzee-ness to explore:

>Kamen Riders
Kamen Riders is a very popular manga/show in Japan that has made it's way onto gaming platforms over the past decades. If you're looking for a campy over the top heroic 3D beat em up action game for the PS4 and PS3, then Kamen Riders would make a great purchase. It has the look of a very classic Cuhrayzee Games General games, but does it have the depth? Maybe (You) could be the one to tell us.

>Senran Kagura Estival Versus
Senran Kagura Estival Versus is finally making its way to the West! This is every Otakus dream jam packed into one game with action combat and beautiful ninjas. However, the game itself isn't as technical as the classic action games of the past, but is still something that even the most high level technical gamer can appreciate.

>Gundam Breaker 3
Gundam Breaker 3 is a game about building your own personal Mobile Suit from the ground up and testing them in various VR missions and/or compete against other players to see who's design is the strongest. It originates from the popular Gunpla license in Japan which allows you to customize your own Mobile Suits from the current tech generation, as well as, fan favorites of the past! Looking at gameplay videos, similar to Kamen Riders, there seems to be a form of classic action game combat present, but we cannot confirm any more without first hand experience. Definitely a great purchase if you're a fan of Gundam.

Tamsoft, creator of the Senran Kagura games, seems to be working on a Kancolle game. Whether it will be an action game or something completely different, like, iPhone and Android gaming, has yet to be confirmed.

In the middle of rewriting my hitbox system. Replacing weapon-bounded overlap checks with a simple, old-school box checking method.

The advantage, as you can see, is that even under extremely low framerate conditions, hit detection is accurate. That sort of stability helps avoid issues I was having before where attacks would occasionally fail to register because of where the sword's sockets fell frame-to-frame (UE4 can do sweep tests to check for "missed" overlaps but they're linear, meaning that if the sword went from above to below and skipped the frame where it was extended, the entire arc of the swing would be pulled tight to the player)

It's also a lot more performant, the amount of frame time wasted on the damage-driving algo when lots of enemies were in play was a non-trivial CPU hit.

Of course the disadvantage is that swings are round and boxes aren't, and corners sometimes do unexpected things (occasionally catching enemies that are just outside the swing radius or missing enemies that are just inside it at certain spots). But so far it feels a lot more stable and predictable than my old system.

And since I've done this with debug drawing to make placement easier, it makes me wonder: would it be a good idea to include some sort of training mode/space where hitboxes are shown in-game while you play all the time? To help make clear exactly what the game is doing in combat... or is figuring that sort of thing out through trial and error part of the fun of dissecting a combat system, and showing that info is giving up too much up front?

I do not agree in the slightest and shootouts to whoever the anon was that posted the article so I could take a look at it. Now it just looks like no one(myself included) explored very deeply into the mechanics and cancels that god of war DOES have. For example, at the end of the article, he said that if you press square once, you have portions for cancelling before the attack connects and after, with all the available cancels that you have for those moments.

This might not make alot of sense now because I'm a little high.

Okay, so for the first attack in a square string, the only way you can cancel it post-hit is by walking or weapon swaps, any other cancel had to be done before the hitbox actually connects. However, say the second/third/etc attack in the string is cancellable in the exact same way. That means you can essentially DO jump/roll/guard/magic/grab cancels by pressing the next attack in the string but cancelling it before the hitbox comes out.
How many of you guys actually experimented with this? Sure, the game doesn't have a scoring system like dmc that encourages changing up your attacks BUT the game was already adequate(read:fun) without these cancels. Now that we've discovered that it in fact DOES have the mix-up potential, what does this say about it eligibility? Could you guys use your skill gained from dmc and transfer it to this game?

In my opinion, devil may cry 3 was the better game, with consideration to all the parts(gameplay, boss fights, puzzles story, and, even though I don't want to admit it, music). It's got great pacing, it's got some of my favorite cutscenes from any game ever, not to mention the combat is still generally fun to play.

I feel like devil may cry 4 might just be a better "engine". Nero felt fun to play and played differently enough from Dante where he didn't just feel like a reskin. Then you first get your hands on Dante and everything gets cranked to 11. His potential got launched through the roof when he gained the ability to style switch on the fly. You can tell they spent more time on the fighting mechanics than anything else. Too bad they couldn't get to the rest of it.

Adults can pretty frustrating, so Kids is there if you want to actually beat the game. I played Kids then Adults, and beating Adults is a challenge when you're new to it. If you beat kids, you can probably then go on to beat the game on Adults, but remember that you can't go from Kids to NG+ Adults. I really do recommend playing the game on Adults, but if you can't get past it because it's too hard or whatever, start off with Kids to learn the game.

Vergil 1 2 3, Cerberus, Beowulf, Agni & Rudra, Nevan and even Arkham Blob are bretty gud, can't argue with that. But remember DMC3 also had its fair share of annoying bosses. Remember Jester (for DMC3SE), Geryon, Doppelganger, Arkham's Eels, Centipede, Leviathan Hearts? You can't just cherry pick the good ones

DMC4 bosses on the other hand are almost universally good. The big trio Berial, Frog, and Echidna are all great. Credo, Demon Pope & Agnus are also great for BOTH Dante and Nero. The only meh bosses are Agnus' window and Dante because his AI is an input reading faggot. Even then, a good player like donguri can salvage the Dante boss fight and turn it into a good boss fight.

My point is one can play DMC4 boss rush on a loop for 4 hours straight without getting tired because 80% of them are good bosses. Echidna, Berial, and Frog essentially turned the game into a better Monster Hunter. However you can't play DMC3 boss rush on a loop because only 50% of them are good bosses.

Keep a lookout for red flashes. That should usually help. That means they're about to boot up an attack. Yellow flashes means the attack can't be parried so you might be doing something wrong there.

Juggling the boss is basically cheesing the AI. You're not really fighting the character itself, you're just comboing it to death by ignoring the AI completely and just working around Dante's hitstun attributes, which is what Donguri does pretty much all the time in a 1v1 fight against Dante.

Going back to Dante, you still need to RG or Release on his stinger. Even then, RG is not your only option, albeit it is unquestionably your best option if you can pull it off consistently. Also Dante as enemy is less floaty and more "un-comboable" than any other enemy that can be juggled (Credo for example has the same "weight" as the angelos and you can do Aerial rave reps on him, you can't with Dante).

How many times do I have to repeat myself, DANTE IS NOT A GOOD BOSS. I'm just saying you can salvage the fight and make it interesting by placing restriction on him. In a way if you think about it, all of /cgg/ is self restriction. You can beat every boss safely like DSP did with Trickster + gun + Vital stars, turning the game into a third person shooter - but you don't. You impose a self restriction by trying to be stylish. Same deal with Dante fight, but to a more extreme extent of self restriction. Yes you can bait his stinger, catch him with million stabs, rinse and repeat + run away like a faggot when he's in RG mode. But you DON'T have to do so. You can try to royal release right on his stinger, then maybe vary it up by doing trickster dash next time, or whatever it's up to you to vary it up. Good bosses = bosses that gives you a lot of defensive options and freedom to deal with their attacks. Bad bosses/enemy = not a lot of freedom, e.g. for example DmC's blue & red enemies.

Is Dante a more restrictive boss? Absolutely no doubt. But he's not Savior bad, or Arkham Eeel/Centipede bad. We're just arguing over different shades of grey here.

Just press forward alongside X whenever you attack. It should be a habit to press forward at the same time as every X press.

The game will automatically treat it as an ordinary X press and feed the input queue unless a parry is possible that frame, in which case the parry occurs.

Take note of every time you see the word cancel pop up in that video, because none of it is possible. In EV the only thing you can cancel is your square button string (which is like 5-6 attacks, and that's half your moveset) and if you dash cancel that it's slow, you can't follow up with any attacks, and you're not allowed to even jump or block. I can enjoy God of War ,DmC:DE, or even the occasional musou if I want to just turn off my brain and casually enjoy a game. EV is so bare bones, needlessly restrictive, and repetitive that it causes me physical discomfort to remember that I spent money that I worked for on the game. More hurtbox overhaul progress

All of the main combos are implemented (special attacks and GunFu still only partially implemented)

As a consequence of each attack hurtbox counting as a separate attack trigger, started rewriting the way comboing works; now, each attack specifies a "repeat decay" value for the multiplier. The combo automatically determines what the last move was, and if it's the same as the current move, the multiplier bonus is reduced from +1 to a number specified per-attack (most attacks use +0.5... but some attacks which are two separate swings, such as Up 'n' Down, automatically give a full +1, and some multihit attacks like Propeller do +0.1 to avoid ridiculous combo mult rackups from spamming them.)

As a consequence of this, a few attacks can actually give a multiplier BONUS for repeated successful uses (Finisher attacks, Perfect Parries, and Headshots actually give +2 for subsequent ones as a reward for chaining them together... so two headshots in a row make your multiplier x3, for example)

Also completely rewrote my "weight class" system. Now, each attack specifies an array of reaction TYPES (chip damage, knockback, halved knockback, knockback with recovery on landing, stumble backward, etc). Weight classes refer to each entry in this array, and are more complex than simple enemy weights (for example, a Grunt uses weight class 1 normally, but weight class 2 for when it's attacking, which prevents certain player attacks from interrupting attack anims; other enemies may have 3 or 4, depending on things like blocking, HP percentage, etc).

Negative impacts of this: I somehow broke my soft-lock updating system, so the player now sometimes ceases steering toward enemies if they're knocked slightly sideways mid-combo. Gotta have a look into that.

Cuhrayzee isn't exactly a real genre. Same way Vanquish is cuhrayzee but is also a shooter.

Basara's main thing comes from the option to tag-switch, a feature that isn't present in any other of these games but one. Aside from that it gives a lot of options and a good template for technical exercises.

Musou games are very primitive in gameplay department. You just mash buttons and that's it. Basara's combat on the other hand feels more like DMC lite and has a lot of technical stuff to it like cancels, charges, just frame things, etc. Plus you have 40 different characters each with some unique mechanics and gameplay and you can tag between two characters if you wish which increace your creative potential even more. It's fun to kill mooks and it's fun to do combos so it works great for both casual and hardcore players.

Too bad series is dead in the west. Basara has so much potential but their sales not enough so budget is tiny for these games. I hope they'll do Basara 5 and don't stick with those Yukimura-den like games.

Just for the record, Samurai Heroes is an introduction. It has some nice things going for it like kara cancels, dash cancels, route resets, and so on. The character switching isn't until 3 Utage though, which wasn't localized. Utage is where the series truly got cuhrayzee, but 3 vanilla is still a very worthwhile and recommendable experience. Once you finish at least about say, 5 story modes, you can come back and I'll throw in some combo videos for you to watch. At that point you should have a better understanding of its acceptance here.

Play vanilla first. It has really great localization and nice story mode so you learn how game and menus works. After you play it for some time and you feel you want more you can transition to Utage for 14 more character and new modes. Utage also has new difficulty which makes things really fun. I'm not sure but I think you can also transfer your saves from vanilla to Utage. At least in PS3 version you can.

The base mechanics are the same in every game, but with varying levels of restrictions. Is that why they specifically stated they were going into SK2 with the intention of overhauling the combat system to make it deeper and more fleshed out? As far as I'm concerned all they really need to do is add/re-balance moves and tighten up the enemy design. Some smaller changes would enhance the experience but those two would make the largest difference.

I really want to emulate Utage on my Wii myself... TAG seems so enticing and crazy.

On a side note for the guy who wants to play it: BASARA characters feel very different from eachother, unlike, say, characters in a standard musou game, where yes, they feel different, but they all fall in the same categories and each of them plays similarly.
One of BASARA's strong points is the diffence between the characters, imo. The ones that click with you just flow so well. I'm starting to try to play it more technically because I love it so much.

Oh yeah, where I live Samurai Heroes is super cheap and easy to find, so if you want you can enjoy it on console too. I don't know if in America it's easy to find though... But cheap? Probably.

Combo overhaul almost totally done (all that's left is GunFu hits and attacks which carry the enemy like the boomerang blade toss).

It's given me the opportunity to transfer a lot of the static "unique attack" logic into a more generalized form in the master Attack Table, which in turn means that in adding new attacks I have a lot more properties to play with (for example, knockback properties being different for enemies in air vs grounded, which is a functionality added so I could generalize bullets only juggling airborne enemies)

Up next: after playing Nelo too much, I've decided that there needs to be some way to reload without the slowdown of actually RELOADING.

Currently, my thought is to have melee attacks which successfully connect increase the ammo count by 1; this way, you're rewarded for balancing your gun/melee usage without "overheating" to such an extent that you just run out of ammo and need a reload. But reloading is still useful since doing it right means you can gain Spec Ammo with a properly timed active reload.

BUUUT, much as I'd love to lift that from Nelo, Nelo balances it with melee being "ammo" limited by the stamina bar; I'm not interested in doing that. So the gun-melee rhythm doesn't really work that way. I've also got reload position saving, and I'm not sure if ammo-replenishing is really the 100% correct way of doing it (though I sure did think it would have improved T:D if it had been a property on Wheeljack and I do think it makes for good gameplay generally).

So maybe the "cooldown" effect isn't the right approach, and I'd love suggestions (hint hint) but what I ultimately want is for a skilled player to be able to avoid being slowed down by reloading without just doing away with gun use.

Scarecrow (Leg) is very easy to counter because they have 3 very distinct attacks.
1 is very slow leg swipe
2nd one is a spinning leap slash (deals two hits, still has a slow startup attack)
and the third one is a jumping slash (which is very easy to dodge)

Scarecrow (arm) is a bit trickier because you won't notice them attacking in a group unless you hear them. Their movements are kinda subtle. Plus overall, they aren't very aggressive compared to the enemies in DMC3.

Notice how Dante takes his punches from the beginning of the game like it's nothing, holds Nero's arm back before their fight before releasing him and letting his own strength send him flying to crack the wall, and blocks his non-DT Buster most of the time during their clashes.

After saying the console versions are "spin offs", as well as, Nintendo versions being the "main line games" It appears you already have your answer to why EV's combat system isn't on par with what you experienced in SK2. Not to mention, the comparison you did is a bad one because of "limitations" and the different types of "quality" (as well as hardware) handheld gaming and console gaming can produce. Um, that would be like making a comparison with mobile and console versions of a game. No one is making any excuses because it's clear EV isn't apart of the main series. How long did it take people to get Max-Act every swing for Nero? I'm playing the Special Edition and it seems oddly easier than when I played 4 on PS3, but it still seems pretty darn strict.

Enemies have almost no differing weight values, stupid hitbox pro bending minigame, no proper balance (you're either getting wrecked on lower levels, or smashing through everything on your second playthrough), the lockon stops if you so much as breathe on your analogue stick, no advanced techniques that don't rely on obscure glitching, the list goes on.

If you really want to play it just pirate it.

I believe the first stage of what makes their games special is the basic cancellation of moves using a jump, dash, or guard. After that, there's special mechanics. These usually come in the form of character specific but sometimes the developer likes to build the game around it. Then the next phase is exploits, bugs and glitches. These make the game last longer. But that's all, you still have to create a world that adapts to all of those mechanics. That's what makes a game cuhrayzee.

As someone here said, restricts you, and as a consequence limits your possibility of looking cool. Of course, stylishness is subjective to a certain degree, but there's no denying that you're discouraged from doing certain things like reversed attacks, therefore limiting your possibilities and making gameplay less stylish, if reversed attacks are your thing.

Also note that efficiency isn't what many players dig about DMC, at least in CGG where inefficiency tends to be stylish if done correctly. If you look at any high level DMC4 gameplay and combos, they're filled with inefficient garbage because it looks awesome as fuck. It also makes combos longer, contrary to efficent play, which means killing enemies quickly, especially with Vergil. Again, limiting your options is often counterproductive to looking stylish.

As for encouraging you to land your hits, it certainly does, especially when you can become the most OP character in DMC history with Beo with full concentration. But it also discourages attacks are aren't landed, even if intentional.
Then again, whenever I don't connect hits on purpose (or just don't care if it lands), I get a few CGG people commenting "wiffed hits". Pretty surprising, I never would've thought connecting attacks is so important to people. I can understand dropping combos, but "missed" hits? Really?

I hate to sound a bit harsh, but can people stop this nonsense already?
One of the great things about characters like Dante is that you have variety in playstyles. For instance, you can deal heavy damage to enemies, or prolong their life with minuscule with quick and soft hits. While there's a "bias" towards the latter style of play, you can still deal be destructive without being punished like Vergil's concentration meter. 2nd example: Nero is leaned towards crowd control, but he can 1v1 pretty well. He's not punished as badly as Vergil is.
Lady sucks because of being limited to one playstyle, the "ooo look she's a long ranged character, might as well bring my ham sandwhich and play like a camper in an FPS game, cause not much fun to have with a more close quarters JC mania style of play"
Or like fighting chimeran assaults, forcing you to keep distance. Limiting someone to a certain style doesn't work well.

Annoying is the best way I can describe the Concentration Meter.
Having different properties for the same move is great, however this was executed horribly, not only for the reasons mentioned in my last post.
You basically have to plan out a combo in order to manage meter well (changing between levels for different properties). That's simply to much for something that could've been more simple.

Nero's Exceed system does this better than Vergil's. It has restrictions, such as being unable to control how many High Roller spins happen if you have a full rev gauge (unless you refund certain skills), but it's better than having to wiff certain hits or keep attacking for meter control.
Also note that Vergil kills shit fast. The only way to gain meter is to basically keep hitting the enemy you're comboing. It's slow to fill yet quick to kill your enemy, and will be even quicker at a higher level.

Although it might have something to do with the design of weapons since DMC3 ones are very...is generic the right word? Beowulf is just gauntlets and the rest of them are just traditional weapons with elemental charms and they are not that powerful lore-wise. Uncle Dante's weapons on the other hand are very distinct. Just look at Lucifer and Pandora, they are screaming creativity. Itsuno was giving insight about Pandora's design in Capcom Unity streams, that man is a genius. Not to mention that they both carry a lot of firepower.

Well I'd argue that Vergil feels more complete as a character than Nero. He's just broken.
As for Dante, his weakness is that his weapons/styles aren't fully fleshed out except for Lucifer and Rebellion. But when you combine everything together, he feels really fun to use due to having a lot of tools available to him.

It's kinda why I prefer playing with DMC4 Dante instead of DMC3. Even though I use the style switcher mod for DMC3, I still wish I had access to all of my weapons in a reasonable manner. Using the weapon switch mod would put me at 5 slots each. I might be able to get away with switching through Dante's weapons with 4 slots, but 5 is way too much to use at a time.

I've been playing NGS1 and NGS2. Aiming for Master Ninja on both.
I also play NG3RE, thinking of finishing it once and just forgetting about it.

Combat mechanic changes are just not for me. Hate how essense is gone, hate slide and on landing attack combos, hate how enemies range from passable to infuriatingly limiting. Hate how controls feel unresponsive compared to NGS1 or 2.

Well, for me in specific, NG2 is difficult to find to sell, and NGblack isn't on the brazilian xlive marketplace, so i can't buy that one.

I did my research, and since what first got my attention was ayane's design, i thought that i should start here. And i'm satisfied, because Ayane is a really fun character to use gameplay-wise as well.

Yet another feature for Mayhem League that you can't examine too closely or you'll realize it makes no sense.

"Passive reloading".

If you successfully connect 30 attacks (15 after Armor Power 4), you'll see a gleam from your magazine... which, if you were mid-reload and interrupted, will reappear. This count resets any time you deal damage with the gun (but NOT use or equip it, so auto-resumed reload anims won't break it, nor will aiming the gun to shoot a switch or get a closer look at something).

If you were partway through a reload, it's auto-completed. If you had successfully Active Reloaded, it will auto-complete that, and yield the special rounds. If not, every subsequent hit adds a single round to your mag.

So, comboing refills the ammo gauge without needing to reload, but reloading still offers advantages over just passive reloading (since it would take about 45 combo hits to fully refill your mag). It also has enough of a lag time that you won't accidentally break an attempt at an Active Reload by dodging and attacking once or twice, and so that in sheer numerical terms dedicated reloading is always faster than passive reloading.

Element intentionally left exploitable by more skilled players:
Since reloading can always be interrupted, and reloads are auto-completed at the point where rounds start piling back up, the best way to use this technique is to tap reload precisely before switching from gun to melee mid-combo. But doing this carries a risk, since once you do it you can't use the gun until your passive is completed, otherwise you're locked to the reload anim

Why? It takes a long time to play through the animation and until it's done takes away the use of your gun.

If you want a quick, universal cancel, blocking takes about 3 frames. It's MEANT to have a double-function as a universal cancel, that's why Block Stocking exists as a combat mechanic, you can "come up from cover" to aim out of a block and drop back in, and why blocking zeroes out all movement, even briefly halting your fall in midair.

Someone posted something shitty this thread, which I replied to, but I decided to delete that part of my post. I feel it's more important to share how I feel about how things are going. Over the course of the past few years I've tried many times to make some changes here. Get people to be less uptight, get them to actually talk about what they're doing, make mods, find new games, find new tech, post webms, etc.
Guess what? It doesn't work.
It never ends, because there will always be people who think it's in any way positive to complain about trivial bullshit, shitpost, or feel it is normal to correct people like some kind of dominant alpha male authority figure even if they are doing their best to contribute. These people need to be kept in line, but because 4chan is anonymous that is not possible.
This is why /cgg/ as it is now is a waste of our talents, our creative energy and our efforts, and personally I'm tired of it. I am so tired that often before I make a post I realize how trivial it is to do so, and just backspace the entire thing, and I had trouble not doing so now.

I'm going to look into starting a community where things will be right. It'll probably take some years time for it to get anywhere, but that is my dream. I want

To any NG advance player here.

I've been playing NG3RE for a while as past threads suggest, but there is one move in my moveset that i never use it, and i tried a few times, the Counter Attack Move.

Reasons why i don't use it is because i'm somewhat lazy to practice the timings of enemy attacks and such, but it is one thing that i'll practice.

But i have a question about it: Do i need to be blocking for it to activate, or just the input of block will do? And can i cancel from recovery animations or attack animations and do a counter attack directly?

Also, can i use counter attack on grab attacks?

I know i'm playing NG3RE, but i would assume this mechanic would be mostly unchanged from other games, so it is worth to ask.

First off, yes you need to actually be blocking to perform the move. The counterattack is a status dependent move, so you can't just tap block and perform the counter afterwards.

Yes, you can cancel from pretty much any animation BUT you still need to go in a blocking stance to be able to do the counter. You can perform an instant block coming off an attack or a landing for example, but until you're blocking you cannot do the counterattack.

In theory (and practice as well) you can perform the CA on any type of enemy attack, be it ranged attacks or grabs, but the timing is much more strict on those kind of moves so it's always much easier to dodge them and take advantage of the recovery stance of the enemy.

I put all this info in the NG2 guide, so the explanations should be a bit more in depth there

Well the principle yes, but tiny parts from the actual mechanics have changed quite a bit from the first game so you should really figure out if there's anything special about counterattacks in RE that might not behave in the same way as in NG2 or Sigma 2

First Boss: CrabBot

Jeez, they're soooo cheap. As I get behind CrabBot there's a blind spots in which you cannot see them as they fire. You can hear the lock-on sounds, but it's hard to tell when there are other sounds and things going on at the same time. When successfully cutting off two legs on the same side this activates the bosses most ridiculous attack and I didn't last very long.


"Wow, this is just the first boss and I can't do anything. I'm just going to cut the weak legs off first"
The method above was definitely more efficient then cutting them off in line. However, the other two legs have more durability, and as I said, when behind the boss the shoulder cannons aren't visible to the naked eye, thus, giving the CrabBot an easy chance to hit you because of wrongly timed dodges.

It wasn't until now that I realize what I was supposed to do in order to be as efficient as possible and even grants a perfect run. What I was supposed to do was break off each of the legs armor, resulting in multiple stuns phases once cut off and then going directly into the final blow which kills the boss.


Hm. So um, is this a form of good boss design in cuhrayzee games? Did I do everything the developer hoped I would do on my first play through? Sure, later play-throughs and with much more experience, CrabBot fight will get boring and become a complete cakewalk, but what matters to the developers when designing a boss is how you perform during the fight experience, because they want you to play it a certain way the first time around, correct?

This fight wasn't fair at all. How come the developers thought it was a good idea to put me up against three bosses while disabling at least 90% of my attacks? This feels like it was meant for Challenge Mode and should never be apart of the main game. It got to the point where I had to look online to see what other players were doing. And it turns off that I was doing the correct approach method, but I'm weaker since it's my first play-through. Thus, my frustration.

I do not understand the usefulness of this weapon. It is not rewarding to use it against a room of enemies and whenever I use the lock-on function I'm at risk of losing a lot of health. So, for the time being, I have stayed away from using the Bow for as much as possible. Now the lock-on itself is really really bad. During Master Ryu's Helicopter Boss fight, there's a final phase in which soldiers wearing JetPacks appear. Whenever I attempt to lock onto the Boss my Lock-on would automatically redirect itself onto the Jet Pack enemies, making this really annoying. The fact that there are rooms with +10 enemies at once and they added enemies that can only be killed with this feature is, in my opinion, bad balancing.

Alchemists in general are annoying, but you can do more than you believe that youc an do at first. But yeah, bosses in this game aren't exceptionally good (regent, epigonos are the only ones i genuinely like).

This one, i don't know if i blame the game itself, or the lack of information that the game gives you, but i just learned this 3 days ago, you can slow time when you aim by pressing the right stick. It goes from an okay asset to a very good one. Also, helicopters in general have weak spots, but i don't know them exactly. And the jetpack guys, you can instakill them by aiming at the jets instead of the guy. And i believe the game also has some damage variation on which part of the enemy you hit. Also, slowing time while aiming doesn't cost meter.

It kinda is, it kinda isn't. They all die in one hit. and in general or they are too strong and you want to deal with them first, or they are too weak and you can ignore them.

Hurtbox overhaul is now 100% complete (the last step was setting up a hurtbox to support two separate attack profiles and to use a selector-logic enum; right now an attack can be configured to use its alt if (a) the player has spec ammo, or (b) to use its alt if the enemy hit by the hurtbox is currently grabbed.

Also, changed the way the lock-on cam works somewhat. The player now cannot move the camera when locked on, the game's logic is 100% responsible for keeping the enemy in view (I will probably include an options flag to disable this behavior and allow the player to freely control the camera angle when locked on later on down the line). The camera also loosens its yaw tracking rate proportionally to the enemy's distance (i.e. the closer you are, the slower the tracking, to avoid situations where the camera jerks wildly due to you jumping over the enemy or something).

Most importantly, pitch is now 100% fixed when locked on. The lock-on cam will always retain a slightly-above-looking-down angle with respect to the player. Altitude differences are now tracked by zooming the camera out to keep the enemy in view (I plan to ultimately do a system that tracks the zoom more accurately according to the viewport size, but this is close enough for now).

Also, changed my lock-on cursor to something a little less stupid looking. Cost me the HP readout but hey. And playing with world-space widgets for this also got me playing with them for the aiming reticle (which, due to its changing size, looked shitty in screen-space due to aliasing issues). The aiming reticle now also exists in world space and rotates in non-over-the-shoulder scenarios somewhat. Keeps it more accurate when doing 2D aiming (which could get weird under changing viewport sizes due to the shittiness of world-to-screen projection math).

Expect a new demo from me Wednesday-Thursday (I'm submitting to /agdg/ Demo Day 7).

Ok Tecmo, really, a T-Rex? And not only that, but a really stupid one. With the thingy on its face I was expecting to see some lightning attack, I don't why, but it never happened. This isn't Dino Crisis 3 I guess. Either way, it was still one I enjoyed since I could use any of my attacks at any given time, TECMO! Besides that, ever since Anon-kun taught me how to use the bow it has become apart of how I play the game now. I immediately spent Karma to learn the aerial version so that I can do cool stuff like wall running while shooting arrows. I can't really say which weapon is my favorite to use at the moment, but the Lunar Pole and Jinran-Maru has some of the best takedowns in the game. However, I have purchase the Eclipse Scythe. I know its takedown are going to be brutal, so it's possible that might change.

Since you're on the T-Rex boss fight, i might as well say that already here so if someone doesn't know, learn now.

When he does his run to chase you, you're supposed to dodge until he stumbles and fall, in the second phase of the fight, he will not stumble if in the chase part you jump, you need to stay on the ground while dodging, and only jump when he stumbles to avoid the shockwave.

Um, I can agree with you on that. The A.I. is really dumb, his attacks are even dumber, but it's still better than the stupid boss fights from earlier that think the disabling 90% of your combo attacks is a great idea for a fast pace action game. I recall those kind of things being only for a challenge modes in action games, so who thought it was good idea to design an entire game around it? Someone from Tecmo did and I hate them so much. I have to say fighting the many type of soldiers is probably the most fun I have with the game. I can't wait until I unlock Momiji.

Momiji is Fun, double jumps, air UT, the little fireball, a lot of control options, but she is fairly difficulty to use properly, she is the slowest of the girls (still faster than ryu in most cases), and her damage isn't high. So, getting used to her is going to be difficult but rewarding.

One thing, once you beat normal, you unlock the chapter challenges only for that difficulty, and so, you can only use momiji on that difficulty. So, if you want to work with her for VST and you're considering traditional, better work fast in learning the game and unlocking all difficulties trough story mode.

To begin, for one, I don't care about becoming the greatest Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge player to ever touch the game controller. Maybe best waifu, hehe.

For your information, in order to unlock Momiji I have to play through the entire game as the main guy. The minimum requirement is a one time full completion of all chapters, which unlocks a game mode called the Chapter Challenge. Not to mention, I thought in order to unlock characters in the game, you have to play on the hardest difficult, because that's how these type of games usually work, but apparently I was wrong and could have made it easier had I just did a simple google search before starting my play-through. And I was too far in the game to start over. So, this entire time I've been progressing through the game on the hardest difficulty available at start, and I've been doing it as the "main guy". Now would you mind explaining to me what are you even going on about how me or the other guy isn't playing as Master Ryu?

Forgive me for sounding like a smart ass, but from the knowledge I gained in all my life of playing video games, to learn the game you must play the game for a long period of time. It requires dedication, time, understanding, and last but not least, a little bit of math and some effort placed on the top. Not playing the main protagonist. It is only then you will become a completionist.

I wouldn't be surprised if some players of cuhrayzee games were waifufags, because a lot of the aesthethic(sp) the standard cuhrayzee game is built upon is charming, cool playable characters capable of incredible feats. Back when I was not yet into the genre I mostly knew games like DMC thanks to how popular Dante as a character was.

Waifufags live their hobby through characters. Cuhrayzee games tend to not have much slice-of-life content to satisfy their needs (unlike a game like Tales Of), but they have so much character focus that IMO you shouldn't be surprised if waifufags are in the community.

I mean, BASARA, which is a branch of DMC in style, is built all around characters, their differences in visual style and play style, and the content outside of the games(of questionable quality though) is pure character fanservice. I'd say it is enough proof how much a cool cast can help the game. If we played as random soldiers we wouldn't feel even as half as cool as playing Ryu Hayabusa. This applies to characters we perceive as sexy too.

That said, waifufag is kind of annoying and I don't understand what his deal is.

I think you're seriously overestimating your own progress. I know you've been autistically playing the game nonstop for a couple of weeks but come on, like >>134390580 points out you don't magically get good at the game(s) by playing every day with the same shit. Going from what more experienced ng anons have said in the past, there's a huge learning curve that isn't even linear and it's completely illogical to gauge your own progress based entirely on you saying "I'm doing the same stuff over and over and maybe getting used to the game more" and then having webms of literally the same things every day

I'm not overestimating my own progress. I'm getting better, i never said i'm getting great at it.

To me getting better is starting to learn how to act on different situations, getting more consistent with victories, and expanding the usage of my moveset, and i've been doing that, in a slow pace, but doing it anyway.

poorfag here, in my shithole of a region NGB isn't available on XBL marketplace because of region lock, used/pre-owned copy of NGB for xbox costs 70+ $ while a used copy of OG NG is less than 30 $. which would you recommend? Also,what changes does NGB did it make to OGNG? If I remember right, NGB added camera control and some extras from the hurricane packs to the original. Are there other changes?

Same was with me.

On US Marketplace NGB is like 10$ and NGII is 30$. But neither of them were available in regional marketplace and you couldn't download them from US account because of IP-lock.

I eventually imported xbox OG disc off ebay from Britain and NGII from China.

Both have some region restrictions so I couldn't get discs from US.

for some minor clarity I own Sigma on PS3 already. I would like to try the original(either OG or black on my X360) but 70+$ is just too expensive for me. So if the changes are not significant I will just go for the OG, but if it is I'll just bite the bullet and buy black.
