Inclinations only exist to offset the results of bad training, the devs began with pawn training in its purest form (monkey see and monkey do) and deemed it too chaotic to leave it as it is.

play the game with you and your pawn as sorceror up until the point you're about to enter the mine. backup your save

in one experiment, switch you and your pawn to warrior with the same skillset and do the mine. in the other experiment, just switch your pawn (but same skillset). in particular make sure you have savage lash and use it every time an ogre falls over

document what happens on the ogres. i'm suggesting the mine because there's 3 ogres, those are the first 3 ogres in the game, and the fights are long. i think what will happen (and what i've observed) is that by the 3rd ogre your warrior will be savage lashing whenever the ogre falls over, just like you do, and that this won't happen if you don't teach it

this will take you a couple hours so get to it. i'm not going to do it for you because most people already believe pawn training exists so i have nothing to gain

So is High Maelstrom to much of a casting time increase to be useful on a Pawn? I've seen people say that upgrading certain spells on your pawn isn't worth it, and unfortunately that was after I'd already upgraded, so I don't want to do the same with this spell. I know people say Maelstrom isn't needed since it fucks over your vision, but I've not had much trouble with it yet.

Mages have Spellscreen, Grapnel, Halidom and can revive infinitely. All are decent spells.

The heals are just something for them do when they're not buffing you, in which case spamable Anodyne is more suited for this purpose.

Sorcerors with buffs are fucking useless.

It can definitely be demonstrated, it's just time-consuming.

On the 360 version back in the day I had a warrior pawn I taught to use jumping light attack, savage lash on downed enemies, exodus slash when two or more enemies are around etc.

Now on the PC version while grinding out vocations at the gran soren wall, I switched both of us to warrior - having never played warrior on either arisen or pawn - and went AFK to play something on my PS4. At the start, he was spamming savage lash and missing constantly, and at vocation 9 he was still doing the same thing, spamming savage lash and missing.

Switching him back over to fighter shows him perfect blocking, dragon's mawing against large enemies/groups, using cymbal onslaught on smaller downed enemies and on skeletons, and using sheltered fusillade when he's low on stamina. All things that I did during our time as Fighters.

In my experience, Maelstrom's big deal is that it just picks up everything and then kills it with fall damage. I don't think High would do that any better than regular, and it's not like there are enough dark-vulnerable monsters in the game that you're using it for the damage of the twister itself over, say, Bolide.

I understand your point but I find it more convenient to have an instant heal than a mage will take time to heal. I find myself surviving longer if I give my pawns about 10 spring waters each over waiting for a heal from a pawn who may or may not get bodied as it's trying to cast. I've got a question about dragon forged equipment.
How does it work when you defeat a dragon, does the possibility of dragon forging apply to the different items specifically or is it a general chance of getting dragonforged?

Like, do I increase the chance of getting my bow forged if that's the only item that's not forged yet?

What it definitely doesn't require is Arisen being the same vocation as the pawn though this method might work for people who don't know what actions have which effect on the pawn

my sorc does the little "levitate dodge" all the time despite me never having played sorc nor even had a single other sorc pawn at all. ever.
I think maybe doing stuff yourself maybe gives them higher chances of doing stuff/more opportunities where they'll recognise they CAN, but I don't think it extends to stuff like "jump twice in this position when the other 3 party members are in these specific positions", I think it's likely preset things that are unlocked and 'upgraded' further if you do them. Case in point, pawns doing the "barrel throw" thing despite me having done that literally once over about 70 hours.

I try to leave as much helpful feedback as I can whenever I return a pawn. Even for this one guardian-inclined mage whose first instinct upon seeing a golem was to scale it and not hit the glowy parts.

I haven't gotten far in the game yet, but from what I can tell, there's a certain % chance of dragonforging any gear that you're wearing. The more upgrades a piece has, the better chance it has of dragonforging.

I just killed the devilfire grove drake yesterday and got two items dragonforged when he croaked: a chest armor piece, as well as the set of daggers I was using.

Shackles aren't that rare, you get them everywhere and you can even buy them in stores sometimes. All you do with them is turn them into a skeleton key with the stuff goblins drop. It's a useful item, but not that useful.

Depends on what you mean by optimal, but yes, dagger/bow gets the most entertaining and overall useful skills, like Gale Harness.

Sword/Bow is pretty decent, though, since they avoid the main drawback of the sword with Dire Gouge, and you don't need shield when you have Clairvoyance, meaning a sword/bow assassin can cover pretty much all the bases.

Still not as much damage as harness'd thousand kisses though, nor is Clairvoyance as entertaining animation-wise [or as easy to execute] as Masterful Kill.

lots of machine learning amounts to on-the-fly decision tree building. this is several decades old

the hard problem isn't even machine learning, it's representation. the example you gave is a representation problem: how do i respresent the game state to the ML such that the pattern of "jumping twice in a certain position relative to 3 other NPCs" is mostly linear or otherwise trivial? that's hard. but "use attack X when enemy Y is down" is pretty linear
