Well, Ethereals are known for messing with the genetics of the alien species they enslave, included humans, and Floaters look quite different from Archons.

Maybe the the Ethereals took the Outsider's species, the Zudjari, and made them into machines for their own plans, or maybe they the Bureau and EU Outsiders have no direct connection with each other, only similar in their shape and name.
Maybe the Ehtereals eradicated the Zudjari but created a new type of energy being based on them.

>Maybe the Ehtereals eradicated the Zudjari but created a new type of energy being based on them.

I feel like the Zudjari would be competent enough to where if the Ethereals had encountered them, the would consider them a valuable asset rather than something that needed to be exterminated outright.

After all, they had the combination of physical and mental traits the Ethereals sought after, and with the Mosaic in place, all the Ethereals would have to do is hijack the network from Origin.

Assuming Firaxis give the mod tools out to people as soon as the game releases, and judging from what we've seen of Beagle's quick tampering of the ini files, I wouldn't be surprised if XCOM 2 has decent gameplay and cosmetic mods out by the end of February.

Compared to the XCOM 2 classes, I think they would be less flexible.

If I had time, I'd do a fucking mod porting them all over.

XCOM 2 Mod: EXALT

Can either encounter remnants of EXALT who fight XCOM or they may join. Depends. Have exclusive clothing items.

Wield ballistic and laser weaponry, though of course after joining you they can wield pretty much what your soldiers use.

Class Trees and Skills would probably stay the same. EXALT heavies specialize more in AOE damage but lack the cover-destroying abilities of the XCOM Grenadier.

EXALT Snipers lack the pistol shooting skills....etc.

I think it'd be neat if they remained largely the same, but evolved slightly so they can compete in X2's environment

>Medics use specialize in healing (obviously) and squad support, with dense smoke, deep pockets, medkits that don't take up item slots, and high mobility. Elites get the AoE heal they had in EW
>Operatives use tiny, repurposed EU drones as Gremlins, and are a mix of XCOM's Specialist and Assault classes. Their drone abilities are more combat oriented, (Their drones fire on Overwatch, in addition to the operative himself.) Can get abilities to reload allied guns from afar, saving them an action. Elites get their previous EW ability.
>Snipers are centered around area denial, and have abilities like Killzone early on. In addition to their old EW gene mods, Elite Snipers also have a gene mod that gives the active "Ricochet" ability, which lets them take shots at targets concealed behind walls and buildings, so long as someone else has line of sight on the unit
>Heavies remain largely the same. Their Iron Skin ability allows for 1 point of inbuilt armor, no matter what armor they are actually using.
>All EXALT units have very high will, much like in EW.

Christ, I'm scaring myself.
>>
>>128692361

But still, you'd think some of them would keep innawoods gear nearby instead of just showing up at the mission site in a suit like it's another day in the office.

>While not allied with the aliens, EXALT harbor transhumanist ideals and sympathize with the aliens' effort to evolve the human species; where others fear or resist the alien invasion, EXALT see it as their opportunity to acquire the resources they need to seize power. Theyre effectively a splinter group that you need to crush because they WANT to cause panic among the towns and cities.
also xcom believed they were ayy sympahizers. It's implied that after exalt HQ was destroyed, the remaining cells ethier joined advent or you.

More likely their scientists and engieers joined advent since they have no morals whilst their grunts and rookies joined xcom when the ayys properly attacked.

>>
>>128690075
Maybe that's the thing. They were too valuable, so to speak. Clear hierarchy, rich culture and civilization, no tendency for latent psionics...

Perhaps the Ethereals simply found converting/absorbing them wasn't worth the risk.

They did gain some good things out of the Zudjari empire, one of which the location of the Muton homeworld, which they then enslaved.

From proud warrior race with a strong cultural connection with mercenary work, like Krogans, to dickshaped Ethereal puppets. Truly, we should all join ADVENT

I long for playing a fixed apocalypse. The amount of destruction in that game, the big squad, the freedom to do whatever you wanted in the geo(city)-scape. The airgame is actually substantial as well.

Many of the mechanics are excellent. Some polishing could make it pretty fantastic, though obviously the art style always remains an issue.

It's not a 20 year old supply ship. Notice it looks buttfuck nothing like the an actual supply ship, far beyond what reverse engineering and jury-rigging could do.

The ship apparently contains a Rogue AI and it's apparently very advanced, so I'm thinking the Avenger was a prototype XCOM stole and they'd like to have their very advanced ship back please and thank you, maybe even find out what kind of tech the humans jumbled in there
>>
>>128699852
Would be interesting if they actually had something valuable on the ship they needed to recover. Could be a plausible plot reason for why they don't just nuke the whole thing. Extremely lucky/unlikely but could be a late story reveal.

>>128699887

>>128700154
But it is a 20 year old ship (or older). It says so in the xcom novel. They managed to recover in the initial alien invasion. Like I already said I could go for something pivotal being in the ship. Its doubtful the ship itself is a valuable prototype due to its age and the fact that xcom managed to shoot it down.
>>
>>128700159
Xcom is a terrorist type organization. Nuking their main base would set them back but the resistance will keep resisting. Remember that the resistance is piggy backing ADVENT tech for communication, coordination etc so capturing the Avenger will immediately root out every resistance cell.
>>
>>128700159
>Would be interesting if they actually had something valuable on the ship they needed to recover.
They probably want the Commander back since a big deal is made of that chip and his tactical genius basically running the ADVENT officers.
>>
>>128700426
Except your not just another terrorist cell, your the cream of the crop with the best troops and best gear and most research. And your the one uniting the Resistance, so letting you go only lets them get stronger. Destroying xcom buys time to root out the dangerous elements of the Resistance from relative safety. The resistance without xcom looses most of its bite.

>>128700554
Could be. Though I'm not sure what you mean by "running the ADVENT officers."
>>
>>128700404
Then again why does it look nothing like any of the ships the ayylmaos used in EU? Even the designs don't match: Not boxy enough to be a supply ship.

Perhaps it's a special type of ship optimized for atmospheric flight we've never seen before that the ayys only started fielding once the planet was under their control, but it seems weird, you know?

The design differs too much, looks too human. If it really was a jury-rigged ayy ship it wouldn't have looked that different from all other ayy design, even after 20 years.

I don't know why the ship looks so different. I'm just reporting the details from the book that are canon.

We know EXALT is old, though, real old. All we did in XCOM: EW was send their leaders to hiding, for example.

What we don't know is if "EXALT" is just the military branch of this secret organization or if the organization is EXALT itself. Anyways, not having a chance to "organize" doesn't immediately untrain all the sleeper agents EXALT had, and the plans they were preparing to enact.

keep in mind these exact same arguments work against modern XCOM

any alien race that can actually reach us can more than likely push our shit in

keep in mind that in the original war of the worlds, several field guns hitting one of their tripods were capable of destroying/disabling them

consider that, 30 years later in WWI, humanity would have absolutely KICKED THE SHIT out of the martians in war of the worlds, with surprising ease

so all XCOM games bullshit the 'aliens insanely superior' element inherently.

what if it was just set up to deal with weird happenings like a paranormal/extraterrestial combat/investigation unit that eventually was intergrated into the UN/NATO/Warsaw Pact/etc.

Pretty much. For some reason ayys are very interested in whether humans can really fuck all year long.

That's why the new XCOM is so brilliant in that regard. In the first game, the only reason the aliens didn't wipe the floor with you was because they wanted to test humanity.

And I still maintain my theory the Volunteer was actually sent to an alternate dimension where the real Ethereal conclave was. Upon seeing that humans possess the final secret of the gift, they invade in force around the same time of the EU's invasion, and conquer humanity without much trouble

It's all about interacting with the target's brain and perception of reality, or strenghtening the target's will by sharing yours.

Note that reanimation just lasts while the reanimator is alive, so it's a matter of subconsciously controlling the target's nervous system. Considering you can't do anything particularly fancy with the guys you conquer and we only see reanimation as a battlefield ability, I'd say it's no different than mind control in terms of the scientific mechanics.

Difference is with MO you can drop suggestions and orders and the body does the rest, while with reanimation you have to do everything yourself
>>
>>128706037
I'd go with "cost efficiency". It's somewhat easy for a westerner to mimic most European and American accents with an acceptable degree of credibility, but when they start trying to imitate Asian accents everything goes to shit.

So they'd have to hire a chinese/asian male voice actor (don't mention female because they already have Shen Jr,) just to speak a few lines in what will almost surely be a phoned in accent. Not really the best use of money to go around

It would be easy to justify if you consider "Psionic Energy" to be some actual form of undiscovered energy, the missing link for a Unified Fundamental Equation uniting all four (five here) elemental forces.

So, admiting five fundamental forces, Gravity, Electromagnetism, Weak Nuclear Force, Strong Nuclear Force and Psionic Force (for lack of a better name) one could in theory justify everything that happens in the games, by saying a certain brain structure allows for a body, with the correct stimuli (supplied by the process that "triggers" this latent gift - remember it was an yes/no thing in EU/EW, unlike Long War), allows the human body (or other body types) to act as a willing conductor of psionic energy, which had different effects depending on where it was conducted.

I'm way to tired to start hypothesizing equations for an imaginary force that only exists in a videogame for a bunch of anons in a paintdry appreciation picture board, but I believe everything in XCOM could easily be explained without having to change our understanding of physics, we'd just have to add on it
>>
>>128707327
>It would be easy to justify if you consider "Psionic Energy" to be some actual form of undiscovered energy
aka FUCKING MAGIC

Justifying it by making shit up is the precise point at which is stops being hard scifi, which was my original contention
>>
Reminder, February will come in 16 days.
>>
>>128707528
I don't think XCOM has ever been all that hard of a sci-fi series.
>>
>>128707327
Technically speaking, you can justify anything that happens, anywhere, through physics by adding new forms of energy or forces and convoluted laws to govern them, since that's how physics arose - we saw shit happen and made up laws and equations that fit the observations with passable accuracy
Plus, the problem with this version is that the Psionic Force doesn't interact with anything in our world nor does it actually explain any phenomenon if it existed in our world. This basically means that if a story includes it it's really not adhering to physics as we know it.
>>
>>128706721
By controlling the nervous system one could stimulate the heart into pumping. The "pumping" function is little more than a delayed function that sends an energy surge to the heart's muscles to make them move a certain way.

It wouldn't work if the heart was shot to shit, at least not for a while, but most times in firefights the heart isn't hit enough to render it nonfunctional for short amounts of time. Chalk the reanimation always working to the meta fact that creating a localized body damage system wouldn't be nearly worth its cost

>>128707528
Not really, no.

Hard sci-fi doesn't mean you can't make shit up, it means what you create has to make sense if it was inserted in our world.

Essentially, hard sci-fi is like creating an hypothesis: Assuming X happened, Y would follow.

A very good example is Mass Effect. It introduces a new concept: Element Zero. That's the hypothesis. Eezo is a thing that exists. The codex then explains in detail why it exists, why it does what it does, and everything the game creates is based on that. It's just that the explanation is so consistent with not only its internal definition but the actual science its based on one couldn't help but to conclude that the hypothesis is true:

If Eezo existed, then technology would almost surely go in the direction Mass Effect suggested.

Soft Sci-Fi is more related with internal inconsistencies and refusal to properly explain, or provide explanations that clash with basic understandings of science.

IMO, XCOM doesn't explain shit, so it can't really be called neither hard nor soft sci-fi. I'm just saying that if the developers wanted to create an explanation, it would probably be easy.

Nothing that we can observe, no. Neither does Weak Nuclear Force, for that matter, unless we have the proper tools to analyze its interactions.

Psionic Forcecould be directly related with Entropy and the expansion of the universe. The force behind change. Again, too tired to form anything other than incoherent ramblings on this, but it doesn't seem too farfetched that a thing like this could exist.

Hell, up to 200 years ago we couldn't even prove Electrical Force and Magnetic Force were related.

That's exactly the explanation they gave. Part of the reason why the world went to shit by TFTD was because Elerium was rendered inert by contact with water (thus precluding its recovery from UFOs shot down over the ocean) and what remained wasn't enough to fuel interstellar flight.
It's not until humanity develops non-Elerium FTL after TFTD that things pick up again and Elerium mines are established on Mars and elsewhere.

Look dude even Divinity Original Sin got nude textures even though the characters look pretty bad
The only games that don't have nudes are the ones that legitimately look like shit for sex (Undertale and old games and even then not always) or ones that for one reason or another are not allowed to be modded (Tomb Raider)

I just thought of a question.

So they're making modding easier, but is the amount of soldiers you have in a specific area locked to a certain amount, and are the amount of rooms in the avenger unable to be edited? Cause that might hurt some of the balancing modders try.

I have a question.. Do you guys thing that these beautiful creatures could swallow a 5'9 relatively skinny male whole? I wouldn't struggle so you don't have to account for any resistance when you answer.

Also do we have any information on their reproductive organs? How intelligent are they? Is the snek able to learn human language? Does it have the necessary organs to speak?

But the most important question is: Is she able to dislocate her jaw enough to let me rest in her belly, while she lies naked on the bed carresing her newly enlarged stomach after a long sensual session of sex where I start around her hips and work my way up towards her perky scaly breasts before carefully kissing her and letting her swallow me whole.

Please I need this.

I'd like to think that too.
Like I wonder what it would be like if XCom were placed in various scenarios, such as if they had to face something like an invasion like Pacific Rim, maybe not giant monsters, or from a single funnel, but other aspects, like with no idea on how to stop it, and it just keeps hitting harder. How would the rise and fall in XCom fame play out?
How far would humanity go with it's faith in XCom?

What if UFO's still appeared, and in fact allowed XCom to still research the shit to make Firestorms and the like?
What if instead of defeating the alien invaders, XCom's job was to hold out as long as possible to make like giant Arc ships for humanity to escape?
Would Humanity try to reclaim Earth? What would Earth look like if the aliens took over and the vast majority of humanity left?

Or hell, what about with giant monsters?
Could Xcom pull off some Attack on Titan or Monster Hunter shit?

The idea of facing off against singular, massive monsters in a turn-based strategy game appeals to me more than I'd expect.

One thing though with that is that the technology would have to go in a completely different direction, seeing as how I doubt aliens would be fielding giant monsters with plasma guns just kind of arbitrarily attached all over. That'd be kind of silly.

I'm trying to get a bunch of shit done at once and I don't have a whole lot of time to proofcheck my final cuts. These videos don't have any new information for anyone who's already eaten up all my streams (they're mostly targeted at people who haven't seen everything already) but if any anons would like to watch them anyway, do me a favour and let me know if any goofs or glitches are left in like me not taking out a VO retake or some other such silly thing I missed.

Here's the first vid, split into 4 parts for convenience as they each talk about the 4 different classes (and it also doesn't freak people out with a 50 minute video this way). Got the cosmetics overview one coming as well in a moment.

Intro and Ranger - https://youtu.be/Q8r2vT7ymtg
Sharpshooter - https://youtu.be/aodqfnZpnKQ
Grenadier - https://youtu.be/NU0B_Bt4hDg
Specialist and Outro - https://youtu.be/lLays0OQUsI

Even if there's no goofs to call me on, hopefully at least one of you enjoys. I feel like most of you know all of this already but I'm sure at least someone in the thread will get something out of them (or at least, I hope so). It's mostly for the babbies who aren't POWER USERS like /xcg/.

I can see it going similarly until after lasers, at which point you'd need to get bigger. Probably power armor similar but not exactly to MEC troopers, and a lot of explosive or otherwise large and heavy weaponry.

Kinda like 40k space marines, now that I think about it.

Since with a big enough FUCK YOU sized monster, cover would start to matter less, I can see XCOM developing more vehicles to be used in regular tactical missions.
>>
>>128722769

I doubt it. You're basically working with something that wasn't meant for a human pilot in the first place, so it would be awkward as hell even if you jury-rigged it for XCOM use.

Not a coincidence by the way. It's a synthetic element that does not exist naturally on Earth. This is what Elerium is based on. Bob Lazar claims that faster than light travel is achieved by using Element 115 to power an engine that is capable of folding space time and traveling between the two points nigh-instantaneously.

XCOM has always drawn very heavily from UFO conspiracy theory material. Thin Men are Reptilians, Sectoids are Zeta Reticulans, etc.

It will probably always be Unumpentium because that is how it works in science. As a microbiology major I am hate how proteins are named. Most of the time they don't make sense and when numbered, don't follow a logical pattern but the order in which they were discovered. This is never changed because that is how the senior scientist know them and god forbid they have to change. So Ununpentium is going to be the permanent name probably.

Nah, that's not in by default. I agree it'd be a very good mod to have. Also one that lets you template customisation styles to uniform your roster easily.

It's good to be able to answer a question about XCOM 2's features without worrying about giving away something that might not make it in by release! I find it a weekly challenge to avoid such accidental reveals. Making that kind of mistake is the sort of thing that replays in your head over and over.

Sharpshooter video, 6:50 - You mention doubling up on an auto-loader and expanded clipazine if you've got the third mod slot continent bonus. I'm almost certain that those are mutually exclusive mods, like the scope and the laser sight. Might be worth verifying.

Grenadier video - This just theorycraft, but I'm thinking that a Repeater might actually be a really good investment on a shooting-focus grenadier, at least in the late-game. With holo-targeting and shredding, they'll be the trooper you want to lead with against something like a Sectopod or a Gatekeeper, and with chain shot, that's double the chance to proc the instant kill, which turns a 15% instakill chance into a 27%, and 10% chance into 19%. I figure that a insta-kill from whoever shoots first is more efficient, since any damage already applied is effectively wasted, so it's more efficient to combine that with setting up your squad. You mention in the specialist video that it's more efficient to put a repeater on whatever weapon does less damage, but I think shoot order for big targets (which is where the repeater really shines) is more important. I dunno, just thoughts on paper.

Specialist video - I'm with you in that stocks are situational but handy, but I feel like a stock is kind of wasted on a combat hacker. Combat protocol already gives a way of delivering guaranteed damage, so if you give them a way to do the same or more damage, without a cooldown or a charge limit, then combat protocol's going to end up a bit neglected.

Autloaders and E-Mags are suprisingly fine together.

>Repeater Grenadiers
I'm always in for a bit of theorycraft. The Repeater is really interesting for the reasons you've mentioned in the mental game of 'where do I get the best use out of the instakill?'. Any troop who shoots more than once definitely gets the most out of it. A Chain shot Grenadier is definitely a good use of one.

Specialist vid - I thought like that (I thought EXACTLY like that, actually) until I realised Combat Protocol gets better with upgraded gremlins and also does way more to robots, and pierces armor. So the stock is your infinte reusable 3 damage move, while CP gets saved for hard robot targets or stronger damage targets where it can deal more damage, and WAY more damage to robots. But you are very astute in saying that it's kind of doubling up - that's a very good point to keep in mind with Stock use.

Nah, I understand why you'd ask but I don't think that'd be kosher considering it's releasing parts of an unreleased game. Don't worry, it's incredibly similar to EU/EW's ini, it won't take long to handle. Work on your designs and concepts now and you'll be ready to mechanically implement them instantly on release.

>>128729734
I can't recall off-hand but I think it goes up to like 4 or 6 or something damage at tier 3, with double damage or so vs robotics. It's still a good ability to have, especially because it ignores armor for pure damage on the borgs (not sure if it ignores it on organics?)

Wouldn't expanded ammo count be more useful than an autoloader for many weapons, especially if they're advanced/superior? >Can you answer whether there are more alien types than have been revealed?

There's a couple ultra-lategame types I haven't seen, but other than that I think most have been revealed or teased at this point.

Also, I'm gonna play the MP a shitload as soon as I'm allowed. It's going to be fucking nuts. The amount of options you can build in your squad with all the crazy bullshit abilities the aliens have now PLUS the new XCOM perks PLUS Sectopods being pickable in MP squads now (yes, seriously) PLUS randomized maps, it's fucking insane.

And most importantly I can confirm you can customize your MP XCOM soldiers exactly the same way you do in singleplayer or char pool. Among other things this means yes, you can make a squad of 6 jet black allahu xcom warriors who charge your opponents with shemaghs, HE and machetes.

>>128731637
You would be right except that most of the time you're only firing once or twice per turn and currently missions are short enough that the two to three free loads you get from a decent autoloader are more than sufficient. The longer the mission the worse an Autloader is and the better an E-Mag in comparison. The difference is an Autoloader will NEVER fail you in the first <x> loads as long as you don't need to shoot like 5 people in one action (like with Killzone or Guardian) whereas an E-Mag CAN run out of ammo, however unlikely that is to happen.

>>
>>128732591
From Odds' previews the grenadiers also have a bunch of stuff that eats up two or three shots of ammo, so I could see expanded magazines being more useful there rather than burning through your autoloader once per turn.

But yeah, shorter missions would definitely be a point in the autoloader's favor, and the expanded magazines only really take off with the third tier, when +3 shots is basically doubling your capacity for anything except a rifle and is about equivalent to a free autoload on its own.
>>
>>128733208
Pretty sure they keep the bonus but I've never tested it. I'll get back to you on that.

>>128733141
Nope, I actually have the Base Assault recorded just haven't released it yet. Probably soon to be honest. Playing XCOM 2 for like two weeks straight and blowing my blue balls for it all over the place has made me appreciate EW even more rather than decide never to play it again. Feature wise it's obviously way behind now but the theme is starkly different and I appreciate that - EW's clean cut militarism is a huge change of pace from XCOM 2's resistance struggle. I'm looking forward to going back to LW and finishing that campaign, it deserves it.

And as I was saying on stream yesterday, I'd play the shit out of an "EW HD" mod for XCOM 2. Port EW and Long War to the XCOM 2 engine to take advantage of all the new features and I would play the FUCK out of that alongside vanilla X2's setting.

>>128733410
>Why do you play so slowly and conservatively? I only see you take risks when absolutely necessary.
People say this about me a lot but I feel like I play as fast as the mission dictates. Tons of shit can go wrong with any given amount of risk so minimizing that amount of risk is always best unless it costs you objectives through time limits.

The problem is when you're livestreaming, nobody wants to watch you be slow. In those opening missions with the ini tweaks I'd have been happy to spend like 30 minutes just scouting the pod patrols to ensure my ambushes were perfect. You can't do that on live TV, it's not entertaining.

I'm pretty sure people who served in the Bureau would be elderly by the time of the events of EW.

Unless Exalt existed hidden way before XCOM did and somehow managed to cure aging (or slow it down dramatically) through the use of meld to genetically modify their agents and superiors I don't see how they could had been members of the Bureau.

It does seem like a prompt for a really interesting fanfiction, though.

Shredder is the same area as flamer, same damage, but instead of applying burn ticks and disabilities to organics it shreds armor instead. Similar tool which you'd use on different enemy types than a flamer.

The rocket is a "I'm a Grenadier too!" option that is always useful no matter the enemy type. It has good spherical AoE and shred. But I really like the conical AoE flamers and shredders because they provide a variety of options to kill shit instead of totally investing in the spherical AoE bubble.
>>

does the rocket launcher need 2 actions to fire?

I never even thought of that, holy fug. I mean the new ITZ (Serial) doesn't even need them to be out of cover for it to work. You could just walk into a building and kill every motherfucker in it in a turn between sword and shotgunning.

The AWC seems incredibly fucking powerful. Rapid Fire, Lightning Reflexes, Serial, Killzone, Deadeye, Holo-targeting, so many good perks I've seen already.

You are probably confusing the rank and file soldiers with EXALT itself. It's a mirror XCOM. It's funded and controlled by a council just like XCOM is. At the end of the EXALT story-line all you did was destroy their main base. You didn't actually kill the people pulling their strings anymore than the aliens raiding XCOM killed the mysterious council member.

You just cut off their arms and made them totally impotent.
>>
>>128734525
It used to in the original hands on build, then Jake talked about how he was going to rebalance it, and now in the preview build it's a single action. You can fire the EXO rocket with only one action left, it's pretty baller. Same with the other heavy weapons too.

>>128734856
I needed a screen name for the original Counter-strike when I was like 11 or 12. I always played CT side and I really liked dogs. Beagles are used as sniffer dogs so I put sniffer dog + bomb defusal together and became Beagleboy.

Years later I became a man and just changed it to Beagle. When I was making a second channel after my first one got copyright striked to death by the Evangelion company for my SC2 Neon Genesis video, I needed a name because Beagle was taken. I added "Rush" on the end ala Zerg Rush from SC because I'm also a fan of that and it sounded neat. That's the whole story of my name.

Feature wise, XCOM 2 is leaps and bounds ahead, so yeah. Setting and theme wise I think once the novelty of guerilla fighting wears off I'll rate both equally. EU's by the book military feel is really comfy for me, while X2's resistance struggle is more intense and daring but also scruffier by nature.

But as a game, hell yeah, X2 is way ahead. The base vanilla features it have are huge improvements, I can't even fucking imagine how strong the modding improvements for it will be. The game we'll be playing in a few months after release will probably be ten times better than both EU and vanilla X2 just by nature of all the shit people will add and improve.

I think AWC rush is a good idea hence why I always did it. Getting Col perks (from other classes) on your Lt/Cpt is nuts as shit. You could literally win a campaign off of one good AWC roll in your earlygame, which is pretty exciting.

>>128736289
I've seen enough of Skyrim/etc's modding scene to know that will definitely happen. Which is frightening. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether there'll be some dark little corner where they release stuff like that or if it'll go straight onto the nexus where normies will revile it and fetishists will endorse the shit out of it.

Nude mod will probably be one of the first things made though. I mean fuck, even EW had a "Bigger tits" mod, didn't it? We're going into a whole new world in a couple weeks.

It's smart. Could've maybe killed one guy, but instead he took the guaranteed frag to wound every single one of them. Not only is that smart in an actual combat situation, it's also smart as last man standing because it puts his entire squad into sickbay for a while. That officer might've sacrificed himself to save the entire ADVENT nation with a play like that.

Why don't you post the webm directly?

Anyway, this made my hacking mod dream came true so I'm going to dumb my ideas here.

Theorycraft V0.02
So basically, a specialist is the defacto hacker because they have remote hacking via Gremlin and their higher hacking stat. The idea of this mod is to introduce new small items that plays to the strength of the other classes to make them semi-viable at hacking and give them a passive hack boost to boost them to vanilla tier specialist if they sacrifice all their small item slots. If a specialist takes these items, they will get enough boost such that Colonels have a solid chance to take control of a Sectopod (right now the chance seems to be only 22%).

>Combat Skulljack
>A combat version of the Skulljack that can deal melee damage and benefit from ranger's blade abilities. (Imagine punching and hijacking every Advent Stunlancers or dashing and socking an Advent in the face to hack him while you overwatch trap everyone else) Rangers can either use this as their blade weapon or use them as a combo attack depending on which is easier to mod in

>Integrated Hacking Scope:
>The soldier picks a target within LOS (including Squadsight). If the target does not move during their turn, initiate a hack attempt.

>Hack Grenades:
>Initiate a hack attempt on everything within its AOE and randomly pick a reward (It's skewered to the better rewards if it's higher than 50% or something). Grenadiers can shoot further with larger AOE but a Colonel Specialist can pretty much take control of every body in the pod. Can be upgraded to hack ADVENT as well.

>Battlefield Cloud Computer:
Reduce the wearer's hacking skill by 50% but gain 30% of the hacking skill of everybody with the item. So a single specialist with it gets 80%, 2 specialist gets 120% and 3 gets 150% each! You can also put it on a non-specialist to effectively transfer some hacking skill but you sacrifice 2 slots.

127. While the death of XCOM soldiers is inevitable, “Pressing F” to pay your respects is more disrespectful than anything.

Friends of operatives who fell to Viper strangulation are NOT to tell rookies “That’s the way they would have wanted to to go”.

Even if said operative was very vocal about that being the case while they were alive.

Apparently psi not only costs time per level, but also money (supplies). Leveling them up is not cheap, so even though you can technically get all abilities, it would be a significant resource drain. Or so I heard. No idea if they get AWC perks, but my gut reaction is not since they can already get more perks than all the other classes.

I didn't see any resource cost when they were training Psi-Ops in the XCOM2 Stream. The only costs were to create another slot for training and a massive cost to build the facility and do the research. Training new soldiers and existing ones seemed like it was free. The only sink was time.

Void Rift had a training time of 30 or something days but it could be sped up by assigning engineers/scientists to the lab. So that might be the resource they are talking about.

If somebody makes a LW mod, then I probably will make hacking a new subclass. Aside from all the boring passive buff perks, I will probably add them in

New perks:
>ACW: Hacking Nerd. Grants a bonus to hack skill growth that normalizes to Specialist levels. This makes non-specialist who get this perk suddenly become good hackers. Using it in conjunction with the hacking items will make them a valid alternative to hacking specialists. Specialist who gets it will probably become hacking gods.

>Corporal/Sarge : Firewall. Prevents negative effect from a failed hacking attempt.

>Lieutenant : Biosympathetic Feedback. Heals the hacker or buff his aim and mobility after a successful hack attempt

>Captain: Decoy Generator. Creates a digital decoy at a target tile. Dissipates in one shot

>Colonel: L33T Hacking: You get two attempts everytime you hack something. Even if you have successful hack attempt, you can hack again for double the rewards. What if you succeeded on the first attempt to take a control of mech? Well, I plan to introduce new hacking rewards that you can get and randomise them each time you hack.

New hacking rewards

Better, More risky tier for Mechs:

>Overload Generator
>Mech self destructs after 1 turn. It may decide to run into the middle of your squad and kill everybody but if you got a Colonel Hacker with the double attempt, then you just got yourself a cruise missile

>Disable Friendly Fire
>Afflicted Mech can only attack friendlies for 2 turns. If they decide to use an AOE like the cluster rocket or sectopod, they will see friendlies as potential targets. Combine with decoy and it may decide to nuke its own allies

>Compromise defensive protocols
>Strips armor and prevents the Mech from dodging. The Mech can still run around and shoot but you can most likely burst it down quickly in that turn.

>>128745036
>Something unique
Yeah unfortunately nothing interesting is coming out for XCOM2 DLC-wise until the summer.I'm really not sure how to feel about the DLC though. The first is just whatever customization opens it's typical of what I would expect from DLC.

But the second two packs are basically finishing the story and game. Alien Hunters will be adding another species of end-game aliens and an entire new tier of weapons and armor. It's shaping up to be the Broken Steel of XCOM 2. Shen's Gift is also looking like MECs or robots of some sort which were missing from XCOM 2 but were in EW so it feels weird that they are once again DLC units.

So I don't know how to feel. The second two DLC packs strike me the wrong way as it looks like everything they are adding should have been in the game to begin with. But they are actually going to have excellent mod support on release which makes me wonder if that the reason for the DLC being the way it is.
>>
>>128745668
You forgot to mention that patches and DLC will mess with mods.
>>
>>128745968

Only if the patches and DLC mess with the base coding architecture or file management structure. If it's just dropping additional files to the game they shouldn't affect existing mods.
>>
>>128745968
Only if the patches/DLC change stats the mod affects, in which case the modder will just update his mod then carry on.
>>
>>128745668
Yea fuck the DLC
I don't mind DLC for games, I really don't but making that kind of dlc for a game like XCOM 2?

Why?
It's either going to be useless and pointless to get, or overpowered and break the game

Didn't Fireaxis learn that nobody wants this kind of shit?
They stopped making shit dlc for EU after people disliked that kind of crap and made EW, which everyone loved

Way to back track
>>
>>128746172
But these DLCs will apparently be more like EW and less like EUs customization packs. They're adding new weapons, enemies, and a new soldier class with corresponding abilities. The first DLC is the only one that's focused on "more dramatic soldier customization".
>>
>>128746294
There better be ayy skulls and more guerilla looking stuff.
>>
>>128746294
New weapons, classes and enemies is what I don't like
That small cheap kind of DLC I don't think fits with a game like this

It's like, do I want to pay 4.99$ or whatever for 1 new alien?
Well, no of course I don't
But than I'll feel like I'm missing out on a part of the game

I like EW because it was an expansion in it's own right, it was costly, but it's something huge

That fits a lot more than cheap tiny DLC that adds 1 or 2 things that might be useless or OP

The cosmetic DLC I couldn't care less about

Subbed, obviously.

Is the modding community hyped for XCOM2? Are they still motivated?

>modding community
There is none.
There is the long war devs and then the odd people who uploaded ini tweaks to the nexus.

XCOM2 will grow it's own modding community.

So unlikely that there's going to be a flood of mods right off the bat.
>>
>>128754804
On the other hand, simple ini tweaks like Beagle's 40 man squad can literally be done on day 1 and there are bunch of ideas floating around already based on what we know like these>>128742209>>128743559 which seems to be simple item editing
>>
>>128755034
I'd rather do the tweaking myself to be honest.

My idea of fun/balance might not be the same as some modder.

I wonder if Domination is restricted to one use per mission and psionic or one use per mission period.

from memory excuse me if any of this is wrong
SQ. = Squadsight
CPL = Long Watch (Squadsight Overwatch) or Return Fire (Shoot Revolver at first enemy who attacks you each turn)
SGT = Deadeye (ACTIVE ABILITY: Trade a fraction of your aim for a large damage boost on a single shot) or Lightning Hands (ACTIVE ABILITY: Shoot your pistol for free once)
LT = Death from Above (Killing an enemy with your sniper rifle while higher than them only costs one action instead of both, allowing you to move or reload or hunker or shoot your pistol or do ANYTHING after that kill) or Quickdraw (Shooting your pistol as your first action no longer ends your turn)
CPT = Killzone (ACTIVE ABILITY: Giant aiming cone which you place over a section of the map, you now covering fire reaction shot against EVERY enemy in that cone who does anything as long as you can see them. Squadsight included even if you didnt' take Long Watch) or Faceoff (ACTIVE ABILITY: Shoot once at every single enemy you can see with your pistol. EVERY ONE. EVEN IF THERE'S TWENTY OF THEM)
MAJ = Steady Hands (+10 Aim and +10 Crit if you didn't move last turn) or Take Aim (+20 Aim to your next turn every time you Hunker Down)
COL = Serial (ACTIVE ABILITY: Every kill you make while active refunds your actions, allowing you to kill again and again. Does not require enemy to be exposed like ITZ did. Combo with Superior Autoloader and E-Mags to rek 18 aliens in one turn) or Fan Fire (ACTIVE ABILITY: Shoot an enemy three times with your pistol in one action)

Can't remember the cooldowns, assume like 4 turn cooldown for everything on average
fuck odd

I really hope every DLC has more things to slot into the map generator. Or modders are actually talented enough to make art assets that look appropriate for the game.
Like, the fact that layouts are random goes a long way, but there's not many 'major' slot pieces. Like in the suburbia environment, there's the church, the graveyard, barkley's house, and some roads. And they seem to appear multiple times in a playthrough.
>>
>>128766410
Squadsight has a aim penalty the further you are from the target now. It balances out the tree and honestly Gunslinger is way more broken anyway.

Best perk in the tree is killzone imo for how it lets you start concealment overwatch traps with a button press any time.

Take Aim could be interesting if you get the ranger ability that lets you auto-hunker whenever you end your turn without attacking (so you can go into overwatch, auto-hunker, then get +20 to aim on your overwatch shots)
