From what I've seen they're more late-game or control focussed, and the decks tailored to counter other specific decks (Rather than general teching like in ladder). They usually throw in an aggro deck to deal with the decks that sometimes take a while to get going.

In honesty, I'd say look up the best available decks and use them. Tech each one to deal with it's counter deck instead of trying to make each deck good against everything.

I had a lot of trouble killing the bosses on normal to be honest. The best you can do is go to hearthpwn and look up decks for the boss fight and repeatedly play the same fucker over and over again until you win. Sometimes it's hard to understand exactly how to use the deck to get the advantage, you have to use lateral thinking because traditional hearthstone mechanics get turned on their head in a lot of fights.
