HELP! I bricked my emunand somehow, now when I boot into it it only shows a black screen. Sysnand works fine and is still on 9.2. I can still use menuhax and get into HBL.

What do I do to fix my Emunand? I have a sysnand nand.bin backup, should I use emunandtool to inject that into my SD card even though it's a sysnand backup and not an emunand backup?

I've installed the appropriate FBI on emuNAND through rxTools, but attempting to boot in RX Mode sends me back through CTR, and selecting RX Tools again just gives me a black top/red bottom hang.

I've verified that the boot config is correct, has anyone got any ideas? I followed the guide in >>128029732

PSA for anyone interested in installing GBA games. This assumes you have unlinked NANDs.
If you have autoboot enabled, you use FBI through pasta by doing the following:
>open homebrew launcher
>use pasta, it reboots automatically
>open homebrew launcher again after reboot
>use FBI

You have to install a patch cia first (one time only):

> Download 3DNUS
> Run 3DNUS on your computer
> If you have an o3ds in the title ID box put 0004013800000202 and in the version box type in 3665, n3ds

users put 0004013820000202 in the title ID box and 4816 in the version box
> Download the patcher (Old3DS_AGB_FIRM_v3665_SignPatcher.rar for o3ds and

New3DS_AGB_FIRM_v4816_SignPatcher.rar for n3ds)
> open the patcher and patch the cia you downloaded with 3DNUS

I can boot directly into Cakes which can let me into emunand. However, installing cia files doesn't work on emunand, it gives me a "wrong argument, invalid command" error.

In addition, the Health app doesn't have FBI.cia on it for whatever reason - I installed FBI.cia on sysnand before formatting it but now it's gone. I reinstalled it after formatting and it doesn't show up despite installation successfully completing.

I'm pretty much done, I just don't know why these FBI errors are happening. Does anyone have any suggestions or do I have to run pasta in emunand to make it work (despite the signature thing being ticked on Cakes..)?

I'm following this guide: http://pastebin.com/EBKipkPW , which has been mostly excellent so far. However I have hit a roadblock shortly after unlinking my NANDs (on line 176).

I unlinked my NANDs exactly as the guide tells me to. However, line 178 says to boot into emunand by holding L while booting, but since unlinking my NANDS this does not bring me into homebrew menu anymore.

Do I need to re-install menuhax? a bit perturbed because everything else was going so smoothly.

Other stupid question time.

I'm currently in the process of reinstalling FBI to sysNAND.
Here was my process.

If you have a legit cart, updating through eShop is fine, I did it for my Pokemon games and they all work fine.

Also, if you have a cart but also a backup installed via a .cia, they will use the eShop update files so it's all good there too.

I'm a poorfag, it was a gift when I graduated high school from my parents.

I've installed menuhax on my 9.2 o3ds and replaced boot.3dsx with Gateway's with the intent of coldbooting GW emunand.

However it just seems to get frozen. If I use the original bot.3dsx and launch GW from the HBL then it fucks about for a bit, GW logo shows, then it just boots HBL again.

Where did I fuck up?

A mac was my only computer for a while.

Set up a VM. I had to keep one around for a long time because my GBA EZ_KEK IV flashcart required ROM converter software that only worked with winblows.

Then I bought into some /g/ memes and now I own a bunch of $40 memepads, most of them run linux but some of them included windows keys so I can dual boot. I highly recommend the thinkpad meme, 10/10 would meme again.

So I think I installed Cakes, how do I confirm that I installed it properly? Would the firmware change at all in the system settings or something? I selected Boot CFW and to autoboot but it doesn't look like anything has happened, and I get an error when I try and load the code.bin file on http://dukesrg.no-ip.org/3ds/cakes?code.bin.

What's the best way to brick your 3DS? I was waiting for KTM to release, since it seems to be the best tool for it, but it still hasn't been released, so I was considering buying a Gateway. Do you guys have any suggestion or alternative methods? I don't want to try using a random update file with sysupdater because Pingo said it's not reliable enough.

Okay, I switched the boot.3dsx back to the homebrew launcher one, did browserhax and then set up type 2 menuhax, then finally switched boot.3dsx back to ctr so I'm back where I was before with the RX coldboot.

If either of you are the original author of that pastebin (or if you're reading this now), I would highly recommend you put a note in about doing this. I was following your guide word for word starting from formatted sysnand , formatted SD card and I ran into this bug. I think it's quite likely that others will too.

Restore the EmuNAND you backed up before you did that. If you didn't do that, use whatever your failsafe was to cancel autoboot through menu hax, so you can boot to sysNAND. From there use browserhax to access HBL and delete menuhax. I still think you'd have to restore your emunand though, because what you're describing happened to me and that's what I did.

Cakes isn't exactly perfect. Try turning it off and turning it back on.

The only way to brick your 3ds is if you download incorrect 9.2 file.

IF YOU HAVE A REGULAR 3DS, 3DSXL OR 2DS: You get 9.2 O_3ds
IF YOU HAVE A "NEW" 3DS, N3DSXL:
You get 9.2 N_3ds

If you download the n_3ds file and try to downgrade on a regular 3ds or 2ds, you will fucking brick it. Don't do that.

Yeah, I'm guessing I somehow messed up installing Cakes since it isn't appearing in my bootmanager list. So I fucked up I think.
I followed a combination of guides (one from GBA temp and some from here).

I think I have booted rxTools (My system settings say RX-E 9.2.0-20U) but the trouble is that all of my retail games are missing, along with bigbluemenu.

My retail games disappeared from my sysNAND after Complete EmuNAND Setup, so I injected the sysNAND to the EmuNAND at that point.

What should I do?

Anyways. I got my Gateway-enabled 9.2 O3DSxl all up to date with RxTools 3.0/CTR/Menuhax, rendering my Gateway largely useless.
I also downgraded my SO's O3DSxl to 9.2. (Honestly, that was surprisingly painless... It was after the latest sysupdater, though...)
I pirated a ton of games on both. Delinked both. Updated both to 10.3 EmuNAND.

1) Custom themes. How would I properly install them on my Emunands? Will there be issues with menuhax (on sysnand) or such? Am I just paranoid?
2) Savefiles. I have 'filer and I'm aware of svdt. I want to take my old Smash cart savefile and make it work with my .cia. What's the proper process for that? Doesn't Smash have some weird anti-savefile-tampering?
3) eShop. I delinked by wiping sysnand, so my emunands I believe are still with my NNID. Would using eShop mess up my .cia files? I only care for updates/DLC; Is it not safe to update games outside of .cia downloads?
4) I'm guessing this is related to 3 - I assume I should avoid using the system settings in EmuNAND as much as possible, correct? Especially data management?
5) In terms of the scene... besides some N3DS growing pains and 10.4, is the 3DS hack situation getting near endgame in potential?

Also, the guides were all oddly confusing; none of them actually properly explained everything. It's no wonder the topic is flooded with (obvious) questions... (like mine????)

1. you can either install them via .cia or use CHMM2, but if you enter the eshop the .cia versions will be erased.
2. insert cart, then open savedatafiler, then extract, then get the cia version of smash and inject save
3. not if your nands are unlinked. it is safe to update games outside of .cia downloads UNLESS they're undubs. then they wont work.
4. you can use it, but you'll be kick out to sysnand once you exit. if your nands are unlinked, nothing will happen to your cia files.

Setup homebrew on your emunand (use browserhax, install ironfall and use ironhax, etc.) or install the CHMM2 cia.

Since it's safe to stay on 9.2, should I wait for a safer and more efficient way to pirate?

Okay, I have now completed my piracy journey on my o3ds.

Surprisingly, it was much more difficult than my n3ds one, where I just followed https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-setting-up-9-0-9-2-n3ds-xl-for-rxtools-cfw-including-emunand-coldboot-cia-manager.405589/ word for word and everything worked on the first time.

I had two failed attempts: one following http://pastebin.com/ndvW5Aji , did everything word for word and FBI did not appear in emunand. Second failed attempt was following a slightly modified version of the n3ds guide, but using cakes and the o3ds firmware. Again, everything went well but no FBI on emunand. I tried to salvage this one by doing launching PastaCFW from emunand but just got immediate crashes. Gave up and decided to do it a third time.

3rd time: http://pastebin.com/EBKipkPW was very good, but it was not quite wholly sufficient as I had to go off-script at a few places. At line 178, I had to do the things I discussed here >>128032965 in order to get my menuhax back, as the stated instructions (hold L to boot homebrew...) no longer worked after reformatting sysnand exactly as the guide specified.

Additionally, after I did the above boot.3dsx juggling, I found that I had triggered a boot loop where my emunand was still triggering menuhax and sending me back to ctrbootmanager. I solved this by holding L *just* after RXtools sent me to emunand, and changed the theme in emunand which broke menuhax.

A final note/reminder about FBI would be nice too: "You can now use FBI to install .cia files on your emunand. Remember, we have injected FBI into the Health and Safety app, so just select Health and Safety on the menu screen to launch FBI"

my fbi isnt installing shit on emuNAND. i want to inject fbi and see if that works but my emuNAND is on 10.3

is there a way to inject on 10.3 or should i just restore my 9.2 emuNAND?

So .cia themes will be wiped by eShop, but not .cia installed DLC or updates? I can, say, use eShop to download updates, and then pirate the DLC with .cia files, and not have to worry about stuff getting deleted?

Yes. With CFW like rxtools, you can sandbox a second 'firmware' called Emunand on your 3DS; running rxtools in that firmware, you can download .cia files of games and install them with homebrew such as FBI straight to your emunand's 3DS menu as if it was an eShop game.

Other than the long install times, it works extremely well.

I'm not 100% on this, but if you're getting a colored screen after loading the website, SOMETHING is working.

But browserhax is very unreliable. Wipe history, wipe cache, delete browser savedata, get a four leaf clover, and practice your prayers. It can take many tries...

Make sure you have the proper files on your SD card. Maybe browserhax can't find the file?

Used this tutorial and I got to the part where I unlinked my sysNAND and emuNAND and reformatted my sysNAND so that the two weren't linked. Now I can't hold L to access menuhax and it just takes me to sysNAND 9.2 instead of my emuNAND I just spent an hour creating.

correct. ymmv, but I haven't had it happen to me. Granted, when you have cfw access, you don't really have a need to go to the eshop....

So I just formatted my sysNAND to unlike my emuNAND as per http://pastebin.com/EBKipkPW, but now I can't boot back into the boot manager when the SD is inserted, it goes straight to sysNAND.

Do I need to re-menuhax?

What folder on the SD card has the games I bought on the eShop? I want to make room for other games but I can't delete them directly from the 3DS cause they aren't on the home screen. On an O3DS btw
