I have full satellite coverage over South America, but saved the game right before an alien battleship decided to come in the bully everyone. The problem is I can't shoot it down because I only have basic interceptors so it inevitably raises the panic in one of the countries to max.

I watched the total buscit video and some lifestream from another guy and they get more difficult enemies than beagle.

One guy i saw yesterday played on "Commander" difficulty and got Advanced ADVENT Troopers with 8HP, ADVENT Officers with 10HP, pods with one Viper and 2 sectoids.

What got Beagle ? The same pods every mission with only one boss in a pod and the low HP ADVENT soldiers we see March 1.

The avenger defense mission had them drop in pairs which were slaughtered the momment their feet touched the LZ and by the time they drop in 4s, the guy had already cleared out the area and was ready to finish. Remember, they didn't want to balance them by just inflating their health and armor. Aliens are also suppose to have abilities that make them more dangerous. Mutons are the ranger equivalent now, so they get a melee attack.

Yes it is, but it also makes your first attack always hit, which is honestly insane, since even sword attacks seem to fail a good number of times for both Advent and the player.

Just imagine enemies like the Codex that have naturally high dodge and just being able to say "screw that" and deal full damage to them anyway.

The repositioning is also freaking amazing for the Ranger. Not only can you kill a group clustered together, but you can still move into cover afterwards. If you are close enough to a Psi Op, then he can use Inspire on your Ranger to give them another turn and then you can activate run and gun to be able to move and shoot. Sure it's only a blue move, but that might be just enough to get into a flanking position and take a shotgun blast, which is far better then what your sword strike would be at that point.

Yeah but specialists also fall under support so I can't see more than one of them. With six people I see rangers and snipers are the best choice for having a double so far. Finally, finally it's over. With Xcom 2 so close and all the new videos, LW post are far less common than days before and people change it mind too.
I first visited /xcg/ after xcom 2 reveal. All played LW and if someone said he play Vanilla they laught at him. Some months later it was ok to play Vanilla and yet people stop reading if they hear LW.

So it's over... only Xcom 2 now.

Sharpshooter get heavily nerfed, a Colonel have only 91 aim now, Xcom:EW sniper had 105.
Pistols suffer also range penality like shotguns too. And because of their low damage, they are weak against armor.


I will try the sniper build. It make seems weak, first because of the squadsight nerf, but you can kill and hit multiple targets as well.
They keyability for that is "Kill Zone" and allow you to shoot in overwatch at ANY enemy what move or shoot in the area of the (big) cone.
So where the pistol-sharpshooter go close and activate his coolddowns to hit the aliens, the sniper could stay back and can do this forever with his high power sniperrifle.
Expanded magazines and/or autoloader will help for reloading alot.

The Avenger probably has some sort of fabrication facility which has no trouble creating them given the supplies. It was so hard in to create weapons in EU because it was poorly understood tech being created using human means. The aliens and by extension the Avenger can probably fabricate anything that you want considering its a supply ship. It still costs supplies to build them it's just more streamlined which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you really want to buy them individually again mods.

It looks strong, but after i made the maths i see how nerfed the sharpshooter got. There is almost no way to 100% hit on squadsight anymore, and gunslinger is a close range class.

Even beagle said run 2 grenadier + 2 specialists and not 2 gunslinger.
For me it looks like thatGunslinger is a "burst" class who need enemies in low or no cover to be good. And than all abilties are on cooldown...

FUCK VAHLEN. FUCK HER FOR REAL. The biggest lie in XCOM is that you shouldn't use explosives. You really should. It's guaranteed damage which is why the game tries to discourage you in order to force you to roll the dice. Use explosives at every opportunity because it really won't affect your supplies that badly and it's infinitely better than risking a shot and losing a soldier. You can stop using them once your soldiers can hit shit but before that keep them flying.

I think Concelemant should make it easier to explore the map more quicker, not makeing the game too easy.
The best chance would be, that the enemies get a free turn after their activation. So they suprise you, not you them.

This change should not affect Rangers who get spotted during a mission.

You can also tell how many people the overwatch kills or targets before they even start firing. I think xcom in 2 is still too hitech.
I would love to see a total desperation period where the resistance has been just started by some bums throwing rock at the ayys, and charging them with nailed sticks, slowly working up to spears bows as outcasts tha have been living in the wilds join up, then as more knowledgable city ppl get inspired and thow their lot in: booby traps, pipeguns, makeshift explosives until the city gets thrown into chaos and the overlords just have enough and start to mop up, only to be thwarted by xcom remnants that were in hiding and passive sporting 2015 military equipment. Making the city its base and start to reverse engineer the captured "mop up equipment". They hold out for quite a bit using anything they can get their hands on, then one final big battle of defending the avanger before its first liftoff while ayys close in form every direction. After they get away, they go back undergroundagain for a few years to lick their wounds.

So who knows what the fuck is going on with the builds but Legendary is essentially normal mode with longer build times right now. I watched another stream, where someone play on classic. Advent soldiers have the same HP than on legendary, Aliens the same as on normal. Yeah, something is wrong with that build.
The newest build (not beagle ones, but from firaxis lifestream this week) is from december. The build on that event in november is much older. I don't know why they play so much around, anyway, all this builds didn't include in-deep balancing.

There are strange things:
In Xcom:EU/EW we had on higher difficulties lot of (very) difficult missions, beagle have all the time only easy ones and the enemies didn't really step up. In the Xcom 2 startmission you have only 4 rookies and must kill 2 minibosses and 8 enemies total, but in may with 5 people, leveled and geared up, you fight 3 minibosses and 9 enemies total ? Something is fucked up.

I bet they had something in mind with the scout ranger. Firaxis know that people will use it for sniper shots and overwatches, so there must be a balance around that. And i saw one:

Xcom classes have lower aim. Sharpshooter only 91, Ranger and Specialist only 80. overwatch don't hit that well anymore after you are not anymore in stealth.
There are more enemies in a mission which have (expect in beagles gameplay) more HP.
Many missions have a timelimit, so overwatching all the time isn't possible.

The problem is that the seeming "problem" with Overwatch when there isn't any. It is a tool to be applied to on a situational basis like with any other mechanic. There are just as many times that other players with the preview build show where overwatch simply isn't a viable option past the first ambush. Even in Beagle's own stream, there was an occasion in one of his early games where he tried to bait enemies using Overwatch on top of a building, and yet he ultimately had to engage anyway.

And even if Overwatch is more prevalent, that by itself does not constitute "shit gameplay". Overwatch bounding was boring in XCOM: EU because the circumstances behind it were similarly as dull. Given the more dynamic nature of XCOM 2 where there's more compelling reasons to move around due to mission objectives Overwatch traps are more situational now instead of SOP. Try going into multiple turn Overwatch trap in an objective where there's a 12-turn time limit to get to an extraction point and see where that gets you.

EXALTs really brutal your first time. Once you understand the two mission types, what kind of opposition you'll be facing and how comm. relays work then you'll get how to beat them.

Your covert operative should be an assault so they can run n gun to the relays, activating with a dash.

The two mission types shake up what kind of squad you should take. Extraction favours high mobility with battlescanners so you can get in and get out without engaging.

Data recovery you'll want people with good aoe damage, overwatch and shit since you'll be defending an objective.

But really, disabling the comm arrays turns exalt missions into a cakewalk, since you can chain them together and have multiple turn kill fests against defenceless enemies. Watch out for the heavies though, they might still fire their rockets at you when disabled and that's a huge pain in the ass

I thought about the abilities and think this is an ideal shotgunbuild to take out enemies with lot of HP:

Phantom or Blademaster - Both are good, one is for scouting the other one is nice to finish off aliens if Run and gun is on cooldown.
Shadowstep - Overwatch don't mind you
Run and Gun - absolute important to flank an enemy
Implacable - Good for recover.. and more important: You can break LOS all time. Go into sight, shoot, and break LOS again.
Untouchable - Makes you very hard too kill
Rapid Fire - Absolute important for damage

With rapid fire aviable, shotguns will make always more damage than a sword, so the sword tree falls a bit behind. reaper is nice, but only against weak enemies and not against more powerful, more important ones. And if have a 5 turn cooldown.
One point in Blademaster is enough for full damage on sword, a shotgun build have also max sworddamage too.

I think Deep cover is crap. As ranger you must try to flank the opponent and kill them, not stay on overwatch. It looks like it's only good for noobs who dash into unexplored areas and activate a pod.

Bladestorm could be interesting and it's worth a playtest, because many opponents have melee and kill them before they get you is sure a good idea.

Got my hands on the full version of the game.

The big bad is a transcended ethereal, and serves as the final boss of the game(like the uber ethereal).

Ethereals are also back as enemies, and they have new abilities like mind break, which doesn't kill your trooper but makes them panic for the whole mission until it's over. The ability is very limited though so it's not broken bullshit.

Muton elites are also back. They look more royal and they wield plasma lances sort of like those red guys in Star Wars that were always seen around the emperor. They are both melee and ranged.

A new enemy that hasn't been shown yet is the reaper. I believe it was in the classic xcom. It looks like a giant lizard dog. It's a melee unit that deals moderate damage and also had the ability to "grapple" troopers, which will kill them if you don't attack them by the next turn.

Sectoid commanders are also back. They're basically sectoids with more health. The only difference is that their heads are huge and they have an exclusive ability the mind merge ability from the first game, except now it buffs aim and shields them.

The last alien to be revealed is the chrysalid queen. They're revealing this enemy in the launch trailer to build hype. It's basically a slower and bigger chrysalid that's accompanied by horde of chrysalids, and will birth a new chrysalid every turn until dealt with. The queens look like a mix between a chrysalid and a termite queen. They also have reddish brown carapaces.

Those are the aliens that are yet to be revealed. The rest have already been shown. They're leaving off the chryssalid queen for the last week before release to build up hype.

I wouldn't say that balance didn't come into it myself, but I also see dedicated psionic soldiers as a good move in just working with the themes and ideas of the game. XCOM is very much about fighting smart and dirty and using the alien's strength against them. Unlocking psionics not only gives XCOM tactical options that ADVENT has, but also gives them counters against the enemy psionics.

The point of the potent class perks at every level is to make each level matter more, or at least attempt to, and also help provide contrast between the specializations in each class as well as the classes themselves. This power is obviously contrasted by permadeath, cooldowns, and careful drawbacks to the power.

I'll just give more info on enemies since you guys are so uptight about spoilers.

The ethereals trascended(well at least one of them). I won't reveal what their plan is since you guys will bitch at me.

Yeah, it isn't broken at all. From paper it sounds broken but isn't. They are still very powerful though since they have that bullet deflect and psionic explosion shit. And they can mind control a lot easier.

Muton elites look cool in this game. They look more "elegant".

Reaper is kind of like the seeker from last game but more dangerous. They also have a flamethrower attack. So it's not all melee.

Yeah, sectoid commanders are pretty unchanged from the first game.

Chryssalid queens pretty much 1-shot you if they get close to you apart from continously spawning chryssalids.

It's more alien types than the first game.

Shit I didn't even remember the skill trees in vanilla. Honestly, it's not like Long War where you've got a bunch of useless shitty filler all over the tree. Most choices are purely situational although there is a community preference. For example, no one fucking takes opportunist on snipers because they aren't for overwatching, but if you wanted to make an overwatch centric sniper you could probably manage this. It's not that there are useless skills, it's just that most skills are only so impactful that you must stack them coherently (no waffling or splitting etc.) for a completed soldier to perform well.
