I thought Azanor spearheaded the migration because he needed the patreon shekels for revamping Thaumcraft for the millionth time.
>>127655298
kinda, sorta
Azanor made the mistake/challenge to update to 1.8, a version that almost everybody hated. But now that 1.8.8 actually makes porting and making mods more bearable, people are starting to use it more and more, and 1.8.8 is technically different enough from 1.8 that Azanor has to port his fucking mod over again
Glass doesn't count as a roof block for doors, so you can hide doors under glass and they will add to the village door count. What other blocks do this, if any? Carpet or sheared leaves? I need some assistance in artificially inflating my village door count, but i want them hidden to look nice.

Forgecraft for 1.8.9 apparently has exclusive builds of Thaumcraft 5 and Extra Utilities 2.

Pahimar says it's actually just a server for him and friends and that the whole "dev testing" thing is a myth and he's annoyed by people perpetuating it. Its role as a dev testing server was coincidental, as devs tend to be friends with other devs, but not all devs.

It kinda is actually, but more balanced since you actually have to scan multiple items first before you can start replicating it, and even then it costs alot of RF to do it.

Alright.
Finally bit the bullet and set up a beefy EC2 instance for a serb.
I'm looking for mod suggestions. I plan on having the world be very large with huge biomes. I want to promote building and player interaction. I'm adding the roadblocks mod for road building that gives speed bonuses, Mine Painter for painting, and a bunch of book mods. Basically want to make a factions server without factions: build something super nice and protect it. Ores spawn in different parts of the world for scarcity.
I'm not looking for tech mods and I want to keep a mostly vanilla feel, so mod ease-of-use is big. I also don't want energy mods.
Most likely will be 1.7.10

If it gets enough support, I don't see why I wouldn't add it. I'm mainly just wanting to promote a simple player-driven economy without using stupid chat money by creating scarcity and pluging infinite item holes. Example: zombies won't be dropping gold, creepers won't drop gun powder, etc

>>127704392
why won't creepers be dropping gunpowder? are you not wanting gunpowder at all? i know there is saltpeter but you would be needing a tech mod for that
>>127662696
Doors that dont have a sunlit block infront of them do not count for villages, you are confused.
>>127704716
I'm essentially trying to promote an economy that makes players want to trade. Valuable items can't be farmed out of thin air. Certain ores can only be found in certain parts of the world. Roads can be built between homes and towns to help get between them and trade more quickly.
I'm mainly looking for a way that gun powder can be mined before I start adjusting drop rates, but it's on a list of things to do.

After a little testing, it seems that the flower that indicates iron is just spawning everywhere regardless of if I even have ores generated in the world at all. It doing that pretty much makes it entirely useless, is there a way to fix that functionality or is it intended? Pic is what is happening. The flower is the indicator, the green grid is COG's wireframe debug that shows you where it tries to spawn ore deposits.

>>127762970
From what I've played so far, Thaumcraft and Twlight together are still a combo that can't be beaten; other fun stuff includes the Roguelike Dungeon generator (if your rig can handle the particle spam), Chocolate Quest (okay, the dungeon bit leaves something to be desired with MC's combat system, but it leaves behind good structures for setting up base; use with Archimedes Ships and hyjack one of the pirate galleys for a fun time!), the Ruins (Structure Spawning System) which also adds lots of nautical structures and the occasional ship.
I'd reccomend the Walled City Generator as well, but the cities it generates in this version are a bit...Off, with paintings on the roads and a general lack of mobs telling me it probably wasn't ported from the last version properly.
As for gameplay improvements...I'm drawing up blanks. I've started playing again relatively recently and most of my time has been spent reorganizing my main map after painstrikingly importing it from 1.6.4 (which was itself imported several more times, as the map dates back to Alpha), fixing the sharp edges, and organizing several different important builds from other maps together; I have yet to get back into true survival mode yet via a couple tests.

It's a tough loss: Millenaire was one of my favorites, but on the bright side Minecolony at least is going come to 1.7.10 soon; CustomNPCs can only go so far!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqs4OGwU3to
>>127765948
man before i started playing multiplayer, milenaire was what kept minecraft fun. the world is so dead and empty otherwise. villagers have no souls, but seeing a chivalrous knight patrolling his motte and bailey castle, while a peasant constructs a new mill....thats good shit.
>>127766882
One of my earlier maps was devoted to Humans+ and Millenaire: it was fun acting as courier between the various Gaul cities and developing additional buildings to bulk out the town using the H+ banners for additional villagers.
I mean, I want to love the squid-nose dudes (which is why I haven't yet downloaded Minecraft Comes Alive even though part of me really wants to), but you're right in that Notch left them half-baked before he went to his candy fort. I just want my squidnose villages to remain squidnoses to abuse and exploit, and the Namkobian Empire to be composed of glorious men and maids!
The lack of it updating was for what the longest time kept me out of this game until I started looking at this general and remembered that I left so many builds incomplete.

I'm about ready to nuke this fucking Altar from orbit. It's like Thaumcraft is the Gregtech and Botania is the Mekanism of the magic world. What ever happened to "Build this toy, it does a fun thing with a niche use" but instead having to build endless infrastructure in order to be a third of the way to the people that actually just play the game normally?
The current update on the world of Chromaterra.
Progress is really slow. Still don't have a reliable RF source, and haven't even started on EssentialCraft 3 yet. Tried to make my own energy pylon to the right but it doesn't work since I haven't unlocked the means to activate it yet.
How many maps is the largest world on the PS4 version? Is it 4x4 or 5x5? Also, rate my map so far.
Something I thought about for a while was making a mod like mcmmo but for single player with some more indepth mechanics for leveling up.
Is there something like this already though? I remember looking a long while back and haven't found anything. But I assume things changed since that time.

That's a bad comparison. AE's system completely changed when it moved to 1.7, patching it would mean rewriting most of the mod, you might as well port the 1.6 version instead at that point. On the other hand patching botania is changing one or two values.

Is there a config to remove the bullshit-tier inscribers? I'd like to just craft the processors instead of having to build machines and infrastructure for shit I don't give a fuck about.
Quick, now that IC2 is ded, what's a decent replacement?
>>127856213
EnderIO or Thermal Expansion for machines and power, Agricraft for Crops. Fluxed Electrum and Dark Steel each have their own merits (Dark Steel is far easier to craft at the start, but a heavy resource sink as you upgrade it. Much better options. Fluxed Electrum doesn't have the options, but is fairly stronger and only requires a single crafting investment) but are viable replacements for Quantum. Grav has many other options for Creative flight, and there's RF-based Jetpacks now.
The only thing you'll be losing is UU-matter, though you can always invest that power into an MFR Laser Drill, or RFTools Dimensions.

Or, you know, just regular minetweaker.

Sceptres, my friend.
In fact, there's no need for you to fuck around with plain wands. make staves for in world use, and sceptres for crafting. sceptres hold 50% more than wands, but can't be used with foci. both staves and sceptres can be used on any in-world right click thing (node bottling for instance)

>>127861246
If you can edit in a recipe for the plates, then you can edit in a recipe for the processor chips too. Duh.
You need a lot more than 50 stabilizers. Like anon said, 100 is enough for the most unstable infusions, and you need even more to buffer when you run out of essentia - instability gradually increases while it waits.
And no, you can't skip straight from silverwood to greatwood. Didn't you see all those other wand cores in the book?
>>127861770
>can't skip from silverwood to greatwood (assuming you mean the other way around)
greatwood sceptres allow you to craft silverwood wands, especially when paired with discounts from robes/rings. In base TC, you are expected to go from wood/iron, to gold/greatwood, to thaumium/silverwood, and from there you can make a primal staff with thaumium caps, I am not sure if you can get void caps on a primal wand in base TC
I really wish there was a wiki or some sort of guide through ChromatiCraft, half of this shit I don't even know what it does until I craft it.
>>127861661
>>127862081
>>127861246
Actually, my bad, you can make a thaumium capped silverwood wand using a gold banded greatwood wand just by putting on thaum robes and goggles of revealing, altogether lowers the cost to 48.6 of each aspect.

Staves can only not be used for crafting, they do everything else aside from fit into the arcane worktable.
>>127862551
>Can't use a staff to jar a node. I think.
As a matter of fact, you can. You can do all the in-world stuff with a staff, like assemble arcane constructs, drain nodes, and wrench essentia tubes. You can even craft a scepter using a staff core, and the only use for the stupid thing is to jar nodes.
>>127862081
Yeah, that's what I meant. You can't skip straight from greatwood to silverwood. You always have to do something else in between to deal with the 54 vis cost. Elemental wands, crafting scepters, or vis discount gear - the thaumostatic harness works too.
>>127862920
>staff sceptres are an actual thing

>>127862906
>>127862920
Blame the wiki and the in-game manual, that states that it's ONLY used for crafting.
...Well, I guess I have a wand for use with the translocation foci, once I get that. Not like it's very useful when I have access to Enderium and Nether Stars in mass quantity.
>>127863384
What the manual *should* say is "can't be used in an arcane crafting table". It can do everything else a wand can.
Not fitting in a crafting table also means you can't use the vis recharging relay to charge it. So before you craft your staff, make sure you have a vis amulet or some other way to charge it.

Sadly, that's not how it works, you are basically given 4 kinds of generic, plain blocks (solid, solid glowing, transparent, transparent glowing) and you paint them, either by the entire block, or by their individual faces. So basically, every block is a chance to add a bit of texture, but you can't go smaller than a block for texture.

Make sure you also have Thermal Dynamics, which has all the pipes.
Also it's a good idea to have both EnderIO and Thermal Expansion, as they each have their own positive and negatives:
Ender IO
+ Fantastic Pipes
- Pipes are a bitch to set up in bulk
+ Great ore multiplication
- Ore multiplication requires a constant supply of Dark Steel (Iron+Coal dust+Obsidian)
+ Best non-DE energy storage
- Poor energy generation systems
Thermal:
+ Pipes are cheap
- Pipes are slow
- Pipes are bulky and not multi-functional
+ Easier to set up bulk "Set and forget" systems
+ Machines can be faster
- Machines less efficient
+ Some of the best power generation
- Power storage in large amounts is inefficient

>- Pipes are a bitch to set up in bulk
you can make them larger in the config
>- Poor energy generation systems
If you want good energy gen, you aren't going to go with TE
desu, no reason to use TE
>>127895138
EnderIO's energy generation is trash, and ExtraUtils generators aren't that great outside of the culinary generator (and even then they're not the best) so I'd rather go with a Magmatic Dynamo or Reactant Dynamo array. 320 RF/t is fantastic power gen in bulk, and is usually cheaper to keep up than BR/IC2. Granted, solar exists, but are a pain in the dickhole to actually craft outside of AE2 autocrafting systems.
>Combining Thaum with ChormatiCraft
On a scale of 1 to retarded, how is this idea?

Well ChromatiCraft does have Thaumcraft support, as well as some research involving it, but from what I heard, some of ChromatiCraft's blocks give an INSANE amount of aspects.

In all reality though, I haven't played through Modular Mayhem enough to actually give a viable answer, so you'd have to wait for one of the other gents to talk about it or try it for yourself.
>>127904120
Well there's plenty of useful shit it has, but like all of Reika's bullshit, it requires you to work for it. Like in this case, it requires you to explore a FUCK TON.
>>127904543
what kind of useful stuff has it got?
>>127904976
Well I already shown off how OP the Chromatic Enchanter is. There's also crystals also give you a slow trickle of exp, so you can use them to slowly feed the chroma collector.
Also there's also an excavation wand that mines out huge areas, as well as a transitional wand that kinda acts like the want of equal exchange, there are blocks that illuminates caves at a HUGE radius, MAWPC rainbow trees that gib notch apples, small little turrets that decimate mobs on the surface, pickaxes that help you easily find ores, pendants that give positive potion effect whilst in the overworld (negative in the nether) as long as they're in your inventory/aura pouch, being able to imbue yourself with specific activatable powers, and beautiful colors/sounds
And that's just to name a few, as I haven't really touched upon the power of lumens yet.

How microcrafty does the mod get? I've noticed before you mention the mod is exploration heavy, which I am a-okay with, but are the recipes knee-breaking in what they demand from you?
Would you say the mod's been fun so far?
I thought some planks and a piece of iron was too cheap for the gift of flight, so I 'fixed' it for myself.Measurement Gauges, steel ingot, lever
plank, block of steel, plank
steel ingot, steam engine, steel ingot
>>127911630
worth noting is that the only way I can get steel in this pack is via Tinker's Steelworks, to gauge the difficulty of this steel
>>127911630
did you tweak the other ship recipes too? one wool for a balloon is too cheap
>>127912423
I was thinking about it, but you have to spam balloons anyways and string/wool can be kind of a pain to get earlygame anyway. Maybe I'll tack on another material requirement in addition to the string and wool, rather than making it cost more of the same.
Okay, I'm getting annoyed. Was it Archimede's ships that let you build multiblock elevators?

In fact, one could argue BTM was nearly as much about Terasology as it was about Minecraft 1.8, and due to being just before the ending keynote I think Terasology's panel actually got a bit more viewers "live". One could also argue BTM was more about OpenComputers than Minecraft 1.8, seeing as both the opening keynote, the ending keynote and two (or three, depending on your count) panels somehow were related to it, and a few extra panels utilized it in some way, shape or form.

AM2's pretty good, you can configure the HUD using /amuicfg when you get ingame, and while the plain enemy spawns aren't too special (mostly just retextured zombies), the bosses are cool. The spell system is the most extensive you will find in minecraft, you can do a great many things with it, from popping enemies in the distance to becoming a 1 man quarry or casting a spell that takes care of every step of farming for you in one go.
The main gripe about the mod is that it's a bit grindy. Get into making spells ASAP, like don't even get a good pick for mining, make a dig projectile spell and use that as much as you can, it'll level you pretty quick compared to a damage spell. (so, to note, do not make your first spell a damage spell)

>>127961439
IC2 is still the only really super fleshed out tech mod i know of, just because of it's age.
It's not too shit, just microcrafty and a little grindy.
In my opinion though, the better option is to go with a variety of the better smaller mods which mostly run on the redstone flux energy system, which is now the main electrical system in modded minecraft.
So throw together stuff like mechanism, thermal expansion, rotarycraft and immersive engineering to get an overall good variety.
In the end you're never going to be completely happy with a prebuilt pack, the best you can do is just play with a kitchen sink pack like infinity so that you can play with all the mods and find out what you like or don't like, then build your own pack from that knowledge.
I was in the same situation as you, having dropped minecraft entirely after the hunger update up until early last year.

I know I'm super late on this, but look for torches in holes. Like the book said, look around at night.

>fucking shadowmetal fortress armor
I don't even have that yet on my solo world.
Probably because I haven't played any MC in nearly a month - but I had a full essentia setup going, so that's something. Lag was getting bad though.

It's a fun armor
Ha! Ha! I'm playing BuildCraft!

You'd be better off having 3 refineries and 3 combustion engines powering them through golden power pipes, works faster, works better, and can be easily expanded
Hey guys, haven't hosted an MC server for a long time, but wanted to set up a worldbuilding server for me and a friend. Do people still use WorldEdit? Where can I get Bukkit?

Mm, it's good for getting vis cost down. Missing the voidwalker boots there though - I will concede those are almost too fast for use indoors.

The ingame server list is not really reliable, try pinging the IP. (Also, you might have low download/upload, you need at least 1 megabit on both for a more heavily modded pack as mods are full of packet bugs)

Warpwood wand is better
>rapid vis recharge for free, rate based on warp level

>augmentations installed
What is this?
What's allowing you to do that?
