I made a, seemingly better, starter pack.

It should have everything required point-to-point to get up and running from scratch (pre-downgrade) to rxTools (excluding the firmware files). I also took the liberty of rewriting the firmware .bat file to be more streamlined.

I wrote a pretty thorough readme for the entire process, but some wording is either vague or nonexistent so fleshing out those would be nice. For instance, I could drop the hint at rxTools 2.6 since this pack provides 3.0.

Also, it works during any part of the process so if you just downgraded and don't know what to do next you could follow along perfectly by starting to set up rxTools.

So can someone tell me the best method to get rxtool to autoboot (aka not require using a browser every time) without following instructions that make me start from scratch?

I can't use rxtools because it doesn't have access to the _firm or whatever, but I did separate my nands.

Cakes keeps booting to sysNAND, how do I make it boot emuNAND instead?

If the /firm/ folder isn't there, install Python 2.7 and run cdn_firm.py in the Tools folder.

3)put starter kit and rxtools folder in the zip all on the root of your sd card

4)go to https://dukesrg.github.io/?rxTools/sys/code.bin in the browser so rxtools can install data for the first time.

5)once its done quit and this time run browserhax to install menuhax 2.1

6)once menuhax 2.1 is installed go to configurations and set it to autoboot. it will ask you to set a button to launch menuhax. tapping the touch screen is the autoboot option

7)turn off system and go download ctr boot manager from here

8)rename boot.3dsx on your sd card to boot_hb

9)take the boot.cfg and boot.3dsx from ctrbootmanager and put it on root

Doubt it. Even then if you don't fuck up you should have no reason to worry about 10.4.

4GB is enough to get started. Take my previous point about emunand's space requirements and then consider to install a CIA you need double the space. After setting up emunand on O3DS you'd have around ~3GB space (total) so you could effectively install games up to 1.5GB. Unless you want to install over network which is slow as shit.

Relative noob here. I've installed rx Tools and am currently trying to get DevMenu or BigBlueMenu to start up so I can run cias easier. The problem is it won't run the Devmenu or BigBlueMenu cias in rx Tools.

You need to install the gba cia to the sysnand and to the emunand, that is becuase when the 3ds boots a gba game it reboots to a special mode, so you need to have the game in both nands, even though you'll be playing with emunand.

Julian version is pretty much brick proof since it downgrades safe mode first, then "actual" cias. So if downgrading fails at beginning -> 3ds still works normally
or downgrading fails later on -> safe mode works normally.

I did the CFW from coldboot guide and now trying to get into the HBL results in what I'm pretty sure is a loop of trying to launch and failing. If you don't already have a hack entry point (it sounds like you don't), you should update to latest (10.3) and immediately use browserhax to install menuhax.

Just grab the starter pack from smea (<-- google those words) on your SD card ahead of time, run browserhax and use it to install menuhax. Then probably turn off your wifi, sit back and wait/read etc because the rest of stuff you have some time with.

You can wait for a theoretical 9.9-10.2 hack that might never come or you can get an entry point working on 10.3 *right now*.

I'm in the middle of tinkering with my o3ds. Downgraded it to 9.4, made a EmuNand and formatted that instead. My logic was, if I ever need to just completely wipe everything and go back to 'official' crap, I can just drop my EmuNand and be done with it.

My EmuNand is currently updating through the system settings (I assume I'll need to reinstall MenuHax, which is fine).
I've already installed a Terraria CIA, used a save manager and the crappy snes emulator. It seemed to run fine for me.
What issues might I come up with by formatting the EmuNand instead of the SysNand like I did?

I'm using a USA CIA with the USA DLC CIA. I haven't bought any DLC prior, even then you could either overwrite it or uninstall it from the data management in system settings.

I noticed the DLC gets wiped if you visit the DLC shop from the main menu.

The problem seems to have been with FBI, because as said it worked first try after installing with BBM.

I gave up on BlargSnes because I couldn't get it to work either, the 1.3 and 1.3b both just froze right after launching so I gave up.

PocketSnes seems to be the fastest, CatSFC is medium, CatSFC Plus has best sound but some slowdowns for me. Snes9x won't even run full speed on my hardware so probably useless to you.

Genesis Plus GX is the only option for Genesis.

Nestopia has crackly audio, FCeumm has pretty good audio. Haven't hit any slowdowns on either so dunno what core is faster.

I get bad audio crackle with Gambatte.
