I wasn't a big fan, to be honest. It felt a lot more like August Derleth - everything's just a little over the top. But we're going to feel the effect of Derleth on Lovecraftian media forever. Eternal Darkness is good, but it bent way too much to the supernatural side for me.

BB reveals it's cosmic spookiness fantastically well. You get your first real hint of something greater than the Gothic horror beasts in Yahar'Gul, and it feels important, too. The music helps a great deal, the statues lining the street and then the Amygdala statue above the Lantern in the church. It's your first real sense that there's something way, way off, and it only gets stronger and stronger until the sky turns into a churning galaxy and the moon goes red and there's monsters on the sides of buildings. In BB it feels like the story has happened and now you're just here, left in this mess to make sense of it all. The presence of the Great Ones and Kin really sticks out in the surrounding, they don't look like anything else. The Insight mechanic, although it could have implemented better, is great as not only a pun (in sight = inside sight, eyes on the inside) but it's an insanity meter you willingly and unwittingly build up until you realize it's too late.

The game also doesn't go full Derleth once, it keeps a perfectly consistent sense of weird dread throughout once all that alien spookiness starts intruding and that isn't easy to do when you're slashing through groups of mutant villagers and werewolves.

I think I'll give up on Gehrman for now. I really wanted to beat him on my current level, but I can't get past the last phase. The speed and damage is insane, some attacks are even impossbile to dodge (pulls you with his scythe, sometimes you can dodge to the right but mostly not).
I'll try being summoned tomorrow when the PSN is online again so I can at least give him a good punishment at all and get some echoes to level up some more. I'm currently on 81 approx.
Should I put more points in damage or in health/stamina for this fight? Got like 30 Vit/Str/Skl, +9 Ludwig's

For one thing, a faster weapon will work better. Also, parry the shit out of him. You can even use it to back off and heal.

Okay so a few things.

The beggar, as well as the general Yharnamites, And Djura's guarding of Old Yharnam, all seem to point towards this idea that beasts are still sapient despite being actively aggressive to humans.

However they also seem to know that hunters are bad and usually kill them, hence why the townsfolk attack you and say to leave and that you're not wanted.

Basically, what I'm wondering is: is Beasthood even an inherently bad thing?
