I'm having hardware troubles regarding my tablet, and it's out of commission as a result. Point is as much as it pisses me off to do this to you all AGAIN, but I have to cancel this week's ClosedQuest against my will.

Checking the booru dates, it was actually GMF who started it. But the identity of the artist doesn't really doesn't matter, if the original piece of OC is done well.
See, if someone does something entertaining (OC) in a new way, all while using very popular characters (from the Misfits AU, in this case), it's bound to get very popular.
Which quite easily explains why someone would copy it, when combined with just how easy it is to do, and how energy-efficient it is, to just draw a bunch of frontal shots, and still have them be fun.

Not to mention that it had been very long since a genuine artist fad showed up.
I'm not an OCfag, but I think it's safe to assume they were all happy to see another one after so long.

As for J's collab comic, it actually need the artist to draw a big panel of content, while drawing other OCfags' characters, AND to create a story out of it.
It was quite a bit of effort for OCfags that are pretty much always too busy/lazy. Not to mention the whole debacle with drawing orders.

While I appreciate the sentiment, and that there are people out there willing to support me for what I do, I caused this problem and I should be the one to rectify it. I'd feel more horrible about having someone spend their hard earned money to replace my tablet than doing so myself, even if it causes me a bit of a financial hiccup in the process.

As for being hard on myself I won't argue with that. It's been something I've had to fight since before coming to the thread, and something I still haven't succeeded fighting with. I'll say this much though: I do probably treat this as a job sometimes when I shouldn't, but I also sincerely LOVE making content here. It makes me happy to see people enjoy my work, and I wasn't lying that I said doing so here is like living a dream, as stupid/gay/pretentious/whatever that sounds. So part of my stress and guilt comes from not only having to keep pushing back updates for everyone else, but that it's hindering me from doing something I love.

That said the problem may be solved quicker than I thought, but there will still be no quest this week.

It's simply Weaver's illustrative style. Mike in the stories is somewhat short and a little overweight but not "fat" -- he's maybe got a bit of a beer gut and that's about it. It's mostly played up for laughs. He isn't in the best of shape, but he's far from obese. As for the title cards, it's artistic direction. The characters also aren't single-color either -- it's just how Weaver draws them.

I really liked this chapter. Faz smiling at the banter was a nice moment of bonding that made the crushingly somber read hit harder to me. Mike getting to know Faz's method of moving about was a nice bit of spook which only makes me want a scene where Mike doesn't react beyond a greeting while somone else flinches. That Foxy bit was some unsettling shit that got under my skin more than the breakdown in the Misfit apartment.

Ten years have passed since the infamous child murders happened at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and ripped the town of Hurricane, Utah apart, and a young woman named Charlotte (or "Charlie"), having spent those years trying to forget it, meets up with up with her old childhood friends on the tragedy's anniversary. Curiosity leads them back to the old pizzeria (which, incidentally, was owned by Charlotte's father, who also built its famous life-size animatronics), hidden but still standing. Purple Man's name is William/Dave, and he killed the kids because he was so bored with life that he felt it owed him sadistic pleasures. He kidnaps one of the teens and locks him in a spring suit, then while he's gloating and enjoying the teen's terror he strips naked to show off the scars covering his body from when he was nearly killed by a spring suit failure, which is part of what drove him insane. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy have a big part in the beginning and during the final quater of the book, but it's largely about Charlotte and William.

Also, Charlotte kills William after he gets inside Spring Bonnie and tries to kill her in a more old-fashioned way by jamming her thumbs into the eye sockets of the suit and setting off the locks, crushing William into pulp

FNAF 2 was weird in that a lot of the animatronics had that fantastic uncanny valley going on when they are in the office (Withered Freddy, Withered Chica are both good examples) but the jumpscares had no impact whatsoever.

However, I'll argue tooth and nail that FNAF4 was a definite return to form, down to focusing more on sound cues like the first game (even moreso) and taking the 'feels like a lucid nightmare' feeling of the first game and taking it the next step up. Sure the monster design aims at a more primal level, but given the location of a suburban house, it works really well.

However, I will agree Scott has no idea how to tell a story and it's extremely obvious he started having to add shit and make shit up on the fly with the sequels to try and tie all the lore together. It's a pretty glaring issue sometimes, but I like the games for the gameplay above all else so it doesn't completely ruin the sequels for me.

The reason 2's jumpscares had less impact is that, with so many animatronics constantly after you, there was no time to build suspense and dread. If the number of robots was trimmed or there were less of them on each night until Night 6 it would have worked better. Also the music box mechanic fucking sucked.

I just want to know how fucking baked Scott was when he wrote the story for each game. I'm genuinely curious how the pieces fit together in his head, since literally no one out of the millions of people who've played the game can make any sense of it.

He said that, with the exception of 4, he was impessed how people were able to figure out the stories and lore of the series. So apparently people did understand them.

And really, it's not like he's the very first person to ever be haphazard about what he makes, and we also need to remember that he didn't expect the first game to sell, so he didn't get very in-depth about the story and lore. Only after it was a success did he start fleshing out everything.
