How do you deal with those golems guarding gates in type 0? I had 2 of them in the 3rd mission and they caused all of my cadualties because they do 4000 damage and the AI allies can't dodge them. Wat do?

The FFIX port actually looks like effort was put into it. Not much, but effort happened.

You don't kill them.
Try to do the SO where you have to survive for one minute on the first one, it's pretty easy, you just have to get away from the gate and when it's somewhat close run all the way back to where you entered the area, if you measure the distance well your retard allies won't fight.

As for dealing with them, there's two ways to do it. You can actually break through the first gate by attacking it with a fast, high damage character (aka not Cinque), but that way you miss some things, not important ones since you still get eidolons regardless, but I think there's some handy items there from red letter SOs. If you proceed until the second one you HAVE to use an eidolon to kill it, I think. If you listen to what the moogle says you shouldn't have much trouble.

Which item from the beginner selection should I pick? The ones I'm considering are: Healing staff, Storm staff, Tyrfing, Valkyrie, and Stormlance girmoire.

I was going to pick Tyrfing, but then my pulls during the celebration banners were absolutely horrible. So now I feel that I probably should get some type of mage/healer weapon.

Like I said, you can also just smash the first gate and skip the whole thing right to the last areas. Ace with his melee attack (assuming you're unlocked it) or Seven can do it pretty easily as long as the golem has its attention centered elsewhere.

It's very lighthearted. IX does this too but not so much.

In my opinion, the newer translations and mobile version's sprites actually play on this pretty well, though the new sprites could be way better. Steam is still shit though.
