10pm yesterday during a party already amazing, our host got a call from police that her father just died. It was the weirdest and most nervous new years eve ever.

On topic, lads, I'm completely blue when it comes to Witcher (which is embarrassing for a gamer everywhere, yet alone here in fucking Poland). I just got Witcher 3 for a present (29th was my birthday) and want to play it.
Do I need to know Witcher 1, 2 or the books to really enjoy the game or will I be fine just starting with 3? Playing Mass Effect 3 was weird because I didn't understand half the shit.

You don't really need to play 1.
You should play 2. You don't have to, but you won't get a lot of the character interactions.
And it's good for getting to know why the world is in the current state.
If you're playing it on easy/normal and blitz through the main quest, you can get to the end in about 16-18 hours.
So it's not that much of a time commitment.

Triss is my favorite, but I'm probably not going to replay this any time soon and I just got to Skellige. Is there a no going back point with Yen? I'd like to save right before it so I can check out the scenes and everything but go back and turn her down and continue the game.

I bought 1 and 2 on Steam when they were piss cheap and started playing Witcher 1. Got to Wyzima (I think its name in Anglo version was similar) and got bored to death with trying to find characters at a certain hour and when they were never there. I can do that on Nintendo DS with Pokemon, not in a fucking PC game.

I'll perhaps just spoiler the shit out of the game for myself and just read the story.

1 stands pretty much on it's own. There's almost nothing that connects it to the other games.
