Upon further experimentation, I have discovered that the route I was sprinting up and down in turbo contained an NPC, as most do. The area is littered with them to force you to skip through repetitive dialogue as you pace.

And some reset the counter on your current moon phase. They're densely packed enough on some pacing routes to indefinitely reset your current moon phase.

Sorry, gave Atlus too much credit. Game is more broken than I thought.

Sadly, a clusterfuck would be preferable because things would actually be happening. Every dungeon has been extremely short, sparse on detail, and designed to waste as much time as possible through mob/boss/gimmick difficulty.

I already dug through a Japanese site listing PAR codes, but I don't know that anything like a moon code exists. I've used PAR codes on SMT 1 before when I was ripping background assets for a phone theme and disastrous, game breaking results followed. I think the coding is just too convoluted.

The story is Megami Tensei I tier. That might be unfair, because I at least found MT1's world to be interesting (dungeon layout, a flyable city, sea of flames, etc).

I hope they can make the endings satisfying. I've never really cared for the alignment system, largely because of how biased the series is towards Neutral. Nocturne's system has always seemed better to me on a conceptual level, but none of its endings/routes had enough variance/their own identity, they were all very samey compared to the games that used the alignment system.

My idea was always that SMT IV takes place after SJ, since it's made clear in SJ that the Schwarzwelt will inevitably reappear. Makes sense to me that it would eventually come back, and without Doomguy around to shut it down again, the CDF became a thing but eventually failed anyway. It would explain why they use Demonicas, considering they'd been useful in the past.

A lot of speculation are confirmed on Raidou 1, but people did not give attention ( or fucks for that matter ). Game was too cluncky for most people's taste.

Raidou 2 confirmed a few others, literally joined a bunch of stuff, and solidified Raidou the 14th as one of the biggest, strongest characters in the multiverse ( which people usually don't accept ).

Worth to note that Raidou is literally Kaneko's favorite child, by far. Both Raidou games were passion projects, stuff that he did how he wanted, hands on and etc.

I can tell you if Final was announced at the same time as SMT x FE was reintroduced, the reaction would have been very different. Well, SMT If... was shit. Vague, minor spoilers below.

>Tiny, linear dungeons with high difficulty + new Guardian mechanic to encourage heavy grinding. The final secret dungeon in the "true" route is seriously just one floor. Clearly designed to minimize developer effort while maximizing user play time.

>A dungeon entirely dedicated to making you pace up and down some corridors for 8 in-game months. It's not a puzzle, an NPC flat out tells you what you need to do. Really. Just pace for hours on end in an area with an encounter rate that puts SMT 1 to shame. Good luck fusing a specific demon with Estoma using the SNES-era fusion system!

>Garbage plot. The villain is a (somehow) less competent and more obnoxious Nakajima. The true manifestation of /r9k/. He's super powerful though and sends you and the school to the abyss by way of... uh... never really explained, and then makes you fight a boss to get a key to fight more bosses and so on. Generic Persona 4 dungeon-tier events happen on the "true" ending. I think Akira's route is slightly more SMT in nature, but hell if I'm playing that again to find out for sure.

Things SMT If... did right:
