That still won't help you. The bootrom checks for a correct RSA signature. Those RSA keys are applied over the NATIVE_FIRM binary by Nintendo and the private keys are not on the console.

So yeah, no hard CFW unless there's a bootrom exploit.

You don't understand.
We can change the inner encryption key to force the N3DS firmware binary to get decrypted into garbage that "coincidentally" jumps into our code. But the key is encrypted with a console-specific secret, so we don't actually know what we're changing it to. So we have to repeatedly brick the console until we get useful garbage.
This is ARM9LOADERHAX and was covered in the presentation.
If we can easily dump the hardware secret, we'll be able to pre-calculate the garbage and guarantee we won't brick the console.

Does anyone know where I can download the official themes? I had a gunvolt one, installed Menuhax and lost it in the process. Uninstalled Menuhax because it's fucking up when I hit the home menu button in MH4 for some reason (it freezes). I already have Ironfall anyway, but I want my theme back and I can't find it anywhere anymore. I got it from a zip file that used to be posted a lot around here some time ago, it had every theme released back then. Does anyone still have that link?

No, my MH4 copy is legit. I haven't installed anything that allows for piracy yet, and I already had Ironfall and some homebrew installed, so I know I didn't fuck that up. I only installed Menuhax to have an additional entrypoint just in case, but it's causing the game (bought legit, launched legit, not through homebrew) to freeze when I hit the home button. Uninstalled it and it works like a charm again. I probably should report the issue, but I don't think anyone cares because >o3ds.

Ah piracy is not the assumption, as Homebrew can't do that. There's region free for cartridges though. I don't think I've encountered that issue on o3DS with Menuhax and X. Then again I do not often decide to use the home menu.

4)launch rxTools and follow 'Decryption Options-->Generate Xorpads'. At the end of process you may see 'Could not open SDinfo.bin!' message. It's okay, just ignore it.
5) Now you have Xorpads, the .3ds rom, and the patch
6)Open Fire Emblem if patch and it will ask for all 3
7)Select all 3

Since a new exploit is on the rise I thought is provide a word of warning.

I know this is all really exciting, everyone loves free games, myself included. But if the option to pirate exists, most people won't bother buying anymore while the free alternative exists.

This may cause Nintendo to abandon the console entirely, which is especially bad since its still early into the n3ds life cycle.

In the case of the dslite and flashcard scene, we were already fairly far into the console life cycle, and homebrew information wasn't as easily spread through social media, reddit, etc. Pair that with the fact you had to sink 40 bucks into a card and it at least made piracy less popular. With a firmware option that won't be the case. We may well kill in the coming months.

I have a vita, I have it exploited, I even had an exploitable psp game. I was trying to install ARK, and I used my exploitable psp game, and fucked it up. I forgot to make a backup so I'm unable to restore my exploitable psp game. Is there a way for me to get the game back? also since I legit bought the psp game, is there a way to just redownload the files, have the psvita os see my license key and just.. reinstall it? If not, then I don't really care, I have an exploitable psp. I just haven't really looked into seeing if I can restore that game not.

I'm looking to buy a N3DS, specifically the small one, though from what I understand the only one we have in the US is the Animal Crossing one which defaults to FW9.8.0-25U out of the box. Am I better off importing a Japanese or Aussie unit which may have some slightly older firmware? Almost. The lack of a true permanent boot-time install is the only substantial difference, but that's potentially possible if anyone writes a working example of arm9loaderhax. I doubt they will though because, as I understand it, to get that working requires brute forcing console-specific information from each 3DS, in a way that bricks it and requires a hardmod NAND restore each time until you get it right.

That's probably hoping for a bit much. The 3DS isn't exactly a powerhouse. There's already network functionality for installing .cia files, and loading a .3dsx over LAN, but streaming full games is probably asking a bit much for the limited hardware and shitty WiFi chip.
