Fairly realistic death animations for energy weapons would, in general, make them pretty amazing.

Imagine if lasers only ever very rarely dusted a whole person (like if the beam was large enough, as with the six-crank laser musket) and instead the typical result was a bunch of extremely clean dismemberments that occured anywhere instead of at pre-determined seams, ala the kill animations for Fallout 1/2 meet MGR.

Gauss rifle punching bowling ball sized holes in bodies, armor, etc. despite the tiny 2mm projectile would be fun.

I had a group of raiders where one ran up to me and demanded caps to let me pass unmolested. Them, I just killed.

When a group of Gunners did it, I managed to convince the guy doing the shake down to go from 300 caps to 100, first by asking him if I honestly looked like I had that kind of money, then suggesting he could do "better" when he suggested his lower price. It was kind of funny because it sounded more like I was trying to talk him into giving ME money, with the back and forth.

... afterwards I killed him anyway, but I would have liked if more interactions with raiders/gunners had been like that. Attempts to intimidate and extort makes more sense because it's less bullets wasted.

Why does every game they make insist on having places look dilapidated and fucked up for no reason? Even permanent settlements like diamond city and tightly run organizations like the brotherhood of steel look like all of their shit has never once been cleaned and was put together by piling scrap they found on the ground and welding it together. Nothing looks clean. Every texture, even 'new' things (like the new fence the BoS builds outside the police station) look like they've been left out in the rain and let rust for 30 years.
