>Too lazy to think of an edition
edition

> Can the game be considered a full release?
No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state.
The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective.
There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

> Are there big issues with the game?
Bugs and instability are still real and frequent problems, as with every product still in beta. Ask in thread for details.

> What are the devs doing?
Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version. The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better.
An external team with heavily questionable experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U. They seem to be rushing for an imminent deadline and they are also working on a version of the game that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months.

> Should I buy the game?
KSP is very enjoyable at first, then it usually needs to be modded to retain some sort of longevity, but doing so may dramatically increase the instability of the game. You will be very familiar with the word "Oops!".
The Developers, Squad, have shown many times that they can't handle the project and are trying to squeeze all the money they can with the least amount of effort and with controversial PR tactics.
The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you shouldn't purchase the game, not because the game itself is unplayable, but because most of us agree that Squad does not deserve your money.

Then I worked retail.

I heard this song now easily over 500 times in the space of just a few weeks. Just thinking on it makes me somewhat irritated.

My expirience in Kerbal so far.

Whats the best way to time a launch to meet something in orbit without going in circles for no reason?
Say I have debris in an elliptical orbit around kerbal that I want to get rid of. How do I arrange an ideal intercept?
>>
>>126524445
Launch a test rocket identical to the one you will be using.
Once you finished completing the final parking orbit, find a landmark on kerbin or use an info mod to mark how far you are from KSC, also mark the time it took for you to get there.
Revert.
Wait for when your target is that time ahead of the supposed arrival point of your rocket.
Launch, do everything as you did with the test launch.
Hopefully you will be close enough to your target that you will need just minor corrections to have a good rendevouz.

Things get a bit more complicated when your target is in an inclined orbit, so stick with equatorial ones for now

Will 1.1 bring similar performance improvements? This video shows 10x performance improvements on a 750-part contraption simply by the switch to unity 5. Literally going from 5 to 50 fps.

I'm pretty sure it won't. I'm expecting little to no performance improvements.
I guess it will only prevent crashing for a bit longer.
Maybe I'm too negative but who wouldn't be?
>>
>>126534312
Pretty much, I'm actually expecting it to run slower actually. Also, the devs didn't seem to comment on a 2x performance improvement or anything so pretty sure it's not gonna happen.

It was still amazing to see those performance improvements on besiege though, they are just astounding.

>>126534456
yeah you're probably right.
>>
>>126534456
There's literally no reason to assume it'll bring improvements, because then if it does its a pleasant surprise. If you assume it'll be better, then if/when its shit you'll be disappointed.

No, because Squad wont actually do any work to make it run better using Unity 5

But the thing is, unity 5 comes with the new physx SDK and the old one isn't supported anymore. Technically they don't have to do any work to get running faster and they should see some good performance improvements on the physics. But hey, this is squad, they'll find a way to fuck it up.
>>
>>126534454
That's cool, because for me it caused the game to crash on the first load
>>
>>126535025
Fun facts: it's Mexican, its actual name is "Exotic Car" and they used the unit "torques" to define the amount of torque the engine makes, I don't remember the number but they wrote something like "700 torques"

Not to mention the fact that every picture shows how fake and badly put together that car is. They probably took the frame of a cheap car and slapped a bunch of fancy bodywork on top of it.

Could a craft ever exist with one wing that functioned as half a carrying frame on the way up, served to stabilize on re-entry like a rudder, then flipped over for yaw control on the way down to a runway?

I spose the "way down to the runway" part would be problematic because it wouldn't have any lift surfaces for a glide but assuming that was overcome somehow, seems like a neat concept

Play the tutorials first and foremost. Then piss about in sandbox until you get the hang of things, then maybe try career if you like it.

We're negative because the devs have fucked up a lot over the years.

You don't "need" any mods to make the game playable, there are bugfix mods (not many) and some other handy stuff, but they won't help until you know the very basics.
>>
>>126542809
We are angry about the devs, not the game. The game is a buggy mess anyway.

And I'd recommend you not posting here until you learned the game.

Why is it always more fun to prepare for something rather than actually doing something?

The same thing happened back in .23 or something when KSPI was still made by Fractal_UK and I spent hours making a power relay network to launch interplanetary probes without bringing a reactor with them.
As soon as I finished to build the painfully complicated network, I stopped playing out of boredom.

I am sure it will be super efficient and practical, Anon.
>>
>>126545161
I recently did this but I hit my upload limit on the webm converter so I couldn't make a webm of it.

Basically the rocket had two exterior pods, but one had a weak engine and the other had no engine at all. After the pod with no engine was drained, it dropped, shifting the com to the side the rocket needed to turn, automatically starting the gravity turn.

At this point the rocket would use up all its juice and drain into the weaker pod which was burning as a counterweight thrust, this weaker pod detaches while full and orbits, while the main lifter then has some very serious shit to figure out.

Fun concept, ultimately too ridiculous to be meaningful.

In terms of infrastructure, it makes way more sense to scale up a reusable launch vehicle than it does to keep launching ridiculous rockets. I'm putting money on some sort of place with huge fuckin' jet engines that just hurls the payload really far, leaving it to then complete the burn or get caught by some other vessel in orbit. Then again, maybe the magical Musk will keep costs low and rockets flowing without any major incidents, but I don't see that happening if he's competing against the scheming bezos

>its a turbojet plane that takes off from it and pushes it up towards space
>turbojet goes back and lands
>third stage is expendable and gets the rocket the rest of the way to space

I dont know the math behind launching with planes but it looks impractical for a number of reasons:
-cost: a plane isn't cheap, especially a plane fitted to haul rockets and made so it is flyable both before and after detaching from its payload. I get it may be reusable, but it will still need to be made from scratch, which costs a lot.

-speed: how high and fast can a plane bring something? Considering the speed you need to achieve to reach orbit, it seems like a plane, as powerful as it may be, will only net you a relatively small speed advantage compared to a normal rocket.

- size: this small speed advantage forces you to rely on the rocket's own power to complete most of the burn, which means you will basically need to bring an almost full scale rocket on top of a plane, which is quite big and heavy.
You will end up with a huge plane carrying a huge payload on top of it, I don't see how that could be practical, let alone feasible IRL

Again, I'm no engineer and I'm just speculating. I could be wrong, but at this point someone would have at least attempted something like this with modern tech.

A conventional rocket seems much more simple and precise than a plane-assisted launch, especially now that our saviour Elon may have found a way to reuse part of a rocket.

>I get it may be reusable, but it will still need to be made from scratch, which costs a lot.
That's why many of these concepts reuse existing aircraft, it's only really recently that they've started designing custom-aircraft for the purpose. Pegasus has been dropped by a number of different aircraft over the years but its fairly small and only has a ~450kg payload capacity.
>how high and fast can a plane bring something?
High enough. The concepts I've posted already show the rough size of the rocket attached to the aircraft capable of putting something in orbit.
>size
Entirely depends on payload. Pegasus is tiny, Stratolaunch is completely batshit (I seriously suggest looking it up).
>>

>-cost: a plane isn't cheap, especially a plane fitted to haul rockets and made so it is flyable both before and after detaching from its payload. I get it may be reusable, but it will still need to be made from scratch, which costs a lot.
>>
>>126547320
a big factor is simplicity. they've got to build the rocket anyway, it's less complicated to make it bigger than it is to figure out the plane mounting system even if that's more efficient. complication generally translates directly into higher cost and higher failure rate, see shuttle. both of those matter more than efficiency.

that being said, there are anti-sattelite missiles that get launched from fighters and might reach something like a stable orbit before hitting their target.

t. mech engineer, doesn't mean i know what i'm talking about though :^)

they are just a way to make the "first stage" reusable.
It's not impossible or impratical from a theretical standpoint, but the system it's mostly untested and not really in line with a KISS philosophy, so it's not feasible, especially when easier alternatives exist.

To put it simply there is a reason why spasex managed to land a first stage and those others are just concepts

>>
>>126548496
No the point is that a plane with something that is orbit capable would be ridiculous and would probably never fly.

That 747 is designed to haul something that is already somewhat aerodynamically stable and is empty, if you fitted the shuttle with everything needed to reach orbit from whatever altitude that plane can reach, it wouldn't even be able to take off.
>>
>>126548245
>those others are just concepts
Pegasus has had 42 missions over 25 years, and has more coming up in future. They use it because they don't need to deal with weather (since they can fly over it), having to have a clear range incase shit fucks up, having to have a launchpad since they can just use a runway, and some other things that simplify the rest of the rocket.

Stratolaunch isn't just a concept either, they're actively building the carrier aircraft. MAKS was part-way into development before being cancelled (they made the engines which are a marvel in their own right).
>>
>>126548496
Put all the fuel and tanks needed for the shuttle to actually go anywhere and see if they can even fit it on a 747.
That example has nothing to do with what we are talking about here
>>

The original quote:
>a plane isn't cheap, especially a plane fitted to haul rockets and made so it is flyable both before and after detaching from its payload. I get it may be reusable, but it will still need to be made from scratch, which costs a lot.
Then the 747 Shuttle Carrier was posted, which was used for drop tests of the Shuttle, displaying it was capable of being flyable both before and after detaching from its payload.

Pegasus is also a (small) rocket that has been used over the last 25 years on pre-existing aircraft.

yeah, it's a good system to launch small stuff, and it works against weather because the rocket is very small and pressed against the fuselage.
Bringing bigger, strapped on stuff is harder, and every time the payload CoM is different adjustment may needed to balance the craft.
>Stratolaunch
I wonder what its capabilities will really be and if it will be actually profitable. A failure of the plane would be much more of a disaster than the loss of a Falcon 9 booster.
And still, no functional prototype.

And even if they made one and it flew it can end up as an abortion like the space shuttle

Sure Pegasus is small but it shows its feasible, it's way beyond being a concept, the issue is scaling it up (that you rightly pointed out). I think one of the reasons the concept hasn't been pushed further is because of the relative lock down of commercial space projects until fairly recently, so the focus has been on using existing expensive rockets for pork reasons.
>>126549809
The size doesn't go against the original quote. Pegasus very clearly proves that quote wrong.
>>
>>126549070
>>126548372

Quit being stupid niggers, no one is saying you can launch a fully fueled shuttle or a saturn V from the top of a 747. The original post didn't even say or quote anything about orbit capability. And besides, you can probably launch small, orbit capable, satellite-launching rockets or something similar from a system like that.

>Is it economically more efficient than a rocket?
They wouldn't have many customers if it wasn't. But the market is now being encroached on by other commercial launch services where Pegasus literally used to be the only one. I did some poking around since this is interesting as shit:

The recent SpaceX launch put 11 OG2 sats in orbit at once, each sat light enough to be done by Pegasus. (172 kg each, Pegasus payload of 443 kg) For comparison the F9v1.1 is ~$61 million a launch, and can do at least 12 sats per launch, Pegasus costs nearly as much as that for 2 (and a half) OG2 sats.

IIRC one was with the tracking station and the other with the astronauts complex, but don't quote me on that.

For the latecomers who didn't follow the last thread, the reason behind this wall of text is that Squad is, apparently via Dr Turkmen, willing to retrieve some of our harshest feedbacks to the game.

I personally think we might remain reasonably sceptical about the expected results of this rather lopsided collaboration. Because there's no guarantee at all, and y'know, most of all, how can we trust Turkmen and its troops ? But hell, he who tries nothing has nothing.

Tie it to the base building.
Like
A) Bases can only built on certain ore rich deposits & flat ground
B)You already need to scan from orbit for the ore
C)To build a permanent base, you need to build a mini ground base there out of normal parts (like bring a pod, mobile lab, five cupola along with drills and tanks, and if the area is flat enough you can upgrade this base to a permanent structure)

So the player has to reckon areas first before sending the landing party, maybe through small, single uses probes, rovers, jumping rockets, or even make their prototype base mobile and drive around, depending on distances.

Contrary to biome hopping, the player isnt going around to search for something he's been ordered to do, but to make missions easier, and he's free to look at spots he likes and selects, not forced to explore a checklist.

Set the period down to the hundredth of a second or those things will drift apart pretty fast, even with a tenth of a second of precision.

or, you know, edit the semi major axis in the persistent file so they are all the same and then they will never drift as long as you never fly them again or go within physics range.
Also, activate all the antennas so you can change targets from the tracking station without actually flying the sats and screwing their orbits again.

Give them some extra layer too, mineral deposits have extra concentration of minables, artifacts give some decent science with witty descriptions about aliens or failed kerbal experiments, gas anomalies could appear in atmosphere-less planets and could give free non-common fuel like methane and hydrogen and some science of course.

Mix it with >>126566764

I don't know when I first posted here, but I know I got the game in 2011
yeah, late to the party, I know
>>
>>126562149
ok, I just want to comment on a bunch of stuff.

>catering to casuals
>Catering to people who don't want to bother putting in effort and only bought it because; a) it was on sale and TB told them to, b) lelsokerbalexplosions, c)marketed to the "wrong" audience (ie, those people mentioned in a+b). Seeing as they bought it for stupid reasons it could be argued they bought it for the right reasons since they are easy sales, but how long are those people going to last? Can merch be marketed to them as well? A passionate fanbase who are truly involved with a game will buy nearly any shit you peddle to them (see Star Wars).

I don't think we should focus on the marketing side of development, we are not going to change that. As far as sales are concerned, they made an outstanding job marketing and hyping the game, they sold millions and you can just have a look at the forums and reddit to realise they already have a passionate fanbase.
we should focus on the game, not ranting on how much cancer the fanbase is.

>Science system itself has no depth (hurr durr right clicks) and the tech tree has no depth.

what "depth" are we talking about here? The right click rgument has been discussed a lot already and it clearly cam out that the alternative to a single right click is only a series of right clicks, which only makes the game more repetitive, boring and annoying. What I don't really understand is what kind of depth should a tech tree have? it's just that, a tech tree to unlock. Does this mean the progression and the arrangement of tech nodes are wrong or nonsensical? if yes, then "depth" is not really the word to use, it's just confusing.

>Suggestions for late game: [...]
that is cool stuff, but Turkey made it pretty clear that they are not going to make huge changes, the game will not be rewritten, planets will not be reinvented. I'm no coder, but most of that stuff looks like it would take a considerable amount of effort to do, so it will be ignored.

>Do away with the shitty lelsokerbal experiments and texts and introduce some actual scientific information that people can learn from.
you are basically asking to wipe a huge "feature" that makes the game appealing to first time players and a good portion of the fanbase. Like it or not, but KSP is also that.
I absolutely support the addition of scientific notions, but I don't think they will ever stop using that "comic" side of being kerbal.

oh, I saw someone already commented on this directly on the document..

>Automation [...]

Again, this seems way too much work compared to what we were asked, as cool as that may be, this is not supposed to be a wishlist, we are here mainly to point out what is broken, pointless or needs urgent correction; automatic resupply and recovery missions don't really fit in any of those categories. They would be fun, but they are basically a completely new feature and we should not concentrate on that.

>Discovery mechanics (macro)
>don't give me that science-system-one-click shit

we were asked for actual suggestions, nobody came up with an alternative to the one-click science yet so there is no need to bring this up if you can't come up with something that can be deeper than oneclicking, without being a chore too.

>It would be hilarious having a plotted trajectory do something while your ship does something completely different.
we already had that and it was an annoying as fuck bug. everyone will just think is a bug at first, then they will discover it's a feature and then be all like "what the fuck". This is, i think, one of those things that everyone would just stop doing after the first time it happens: people will just stop sending ships until they have the tech to have accurate orbits, which kinda defeats the whole point of having inaccurate orbits in the first place.

the rest seems fine, sorry to be the pedantic little bitch.
>>
>>126569009
>the alternative to a single right click is only a series of right clicks, which only makes the game more repetitive, boring and annoying

Have all science recorded instantly when you enter a new biome, then you just hit "transmit all"
>>
>>126569009
>>126569136
We came up with shitty mechanics to rework the science system a few threads ago. It involved proving hypothesis, and rewards according to the difficulty of them, and maybe proving a hypothesis into a theory could unlock a node on the tech tree, etc.

And then we got a mini-game sort of thing.
>>
>>126570289
>fly over something
>all your experiment instantly get all the science they can from that biome
>land
>immediately get more science
>take off 10 seconds later with a load of science and zero effort

this doesn't sound that much challenging or fun.
everyone complains about the current system not being "deep" enough, but this is the exact opposite of adding depth.

and before you tell me you could force experiments to take time before completing, well, it adds nothing, that system is still shit and requires literally zero skill

"Minimus is made of ice cream"
Mission: obtain sample of Mun ice cream
Rewards: you get something related to heat exchange "well its not ice cream, but we figured we could take the refridgeration unit and apply it on a larger scale, we've designed some radiators for rockets"
>>
>>126570767
What? No, I was just refining the current system because not even Turk can get Squad to actually work on the fucking game
>>
>>126571108
Eh, it was more like having to pick a hypothesis on the R&D out of a few, the harder, the more scientific reward/chance to unlock a node, the easier the less reward and so on.
The point was to make the player stop and think the best way to prove the chosen hypothesis, not just go out there and spam experiments on the general area the science team said
>>
>>126571584
but that one is lelsokerbal and you could still chose it like any other hypothesis
>>
>>126562149
we really need someone good at redacting to put all that stuff together in a single document or at least in a small number of coherent paragraphs.

sorry for on-topic posting, i wanted to share the latest addition (and a loss) in my RT network.

I was finally able to add almost full coverage of Minmus, so the kerbin system is now completely probe-proof.
Unfortunately one of the Mun sats drifted into the Mun's SoI and was slingshotted straight at kerbin, so I lost half of the coverage I had of the moon.

The full network will have:

- 3 sats in geostationary orbits of kerbin, full coverage of Kerbin and link to both Mun and Minmus sats. 8 antennas for each sat.
FYI kerbin rotates in 5h 59m 9s, not 6 hours, so set your sats period to this value if you don't want your formation to be slower than the planet, assuming you even care about geostationary sats

- 2 sats orbiting kerbin at the same altitude as the Mun, one in front and one behind it. Each sat is connected to each kerbin sats and at the Mun itself, covering all of it's surface except for a small slice of terrain on the far side. 7 Atennas for each sat
one of them drifted and crashed

- 2 sats orbiting Kerbin at the same altitude as Minmus, same logic and same connections as the Mun sats. 7 Antennas for each sat.

both Mun and Minmus sats have 2 spare antennas that will link to two more sats orbiting the sun at the same altitude as Kerbin, those have not been launched yet
Every sat has a spare antenna set to "active vessel"

and now we wait for boredom to strike

>On May 27, 1957 a Mark 17 was unintentionally jettisoned from a B-36 just south of Albuquerque, NM's Kirtland AFB. The device fell through the closed bomb bay doors of the bomber, which was approaching Kirtland at an altitude of 520 metres (1,700 ft). The device's conventional explosives destroyed it on impact, leaving a crater 7.6 metres (25 ft) in diameter and 3.7 metres (12 ft) deep.[1] Though a chain reaction was impossible because the plutonium pits were stored separately on the plane, the incident spread radioactive contamination and debris over a mile-wide area. Although the military cleaned up the site in secret, a few fragments of the bomb - some radioactive still - may be found in the area.

No, you probably attached some thermometers to the tanks but placed them so you couldn't see them, or symmetry bugged and you didn't realise.

I dont use the science instruments but does the thermometer reflect its ambient temperature in any way? (put it in a cargo bay being heated and it gets warmer, etc.)

>>126644285
I think it displays the temperature of the part rather than of the environment, so you'll need to let the thing sit and reach ambient temp before taking a reading using it.

One day we received a message, and it meant the end of humanity.

The origin of this message was found to be KIC 8462852, also known as Tabby's Star or more colloquially, the WTF star. This star first came to notice when it was found to have a very irregular changes in luminosity that could not be readily explained by natural phenomena, leading some to postulate it was surrounded by a megastructure built by an advanced extra terrestrial civilisation. Evidently, this was correct.

The effect of this message was devastating to the cultures of our fair planet, the already fractious and tribal nature of humanity leading to conflict all over the globe. Some wondered if it invalidated closely held beliefs, others simply put their heads in the sand, unable or unwilling to comprehend. Some took it as a sign. The details are unimportant, the inevitable conclusion was that we tore ourselves apart and destroyed our world in the process.

And what was the message? It was picked up on nearly every frequency in the EM spectrum and consisted of seven characters from the Latin alphabet; ayylmao.

Ok bored fellows, new notice about the shared document that anons from /KSPG/ are invited to contribute in aim to address harsh critique and feedbacks to Dr. Turkey (new PM from Squad).

The first text editor was shitty as it didn't allow to highlight parts of the document to offer a proper discussion inside the doc, so we moved it to another online text editor, here :

http://www.writeurl.com/text/bnvciyy22cn73zyqi0xw/bh5rn098dcndoqnddwv3/m3wr237l9wqh06oeuqd2

What we did basically is migrating the old content and formatting the old sections to organize the shit and clean up the dirt. All previous contributions are still there, but for some of them it is now highlighted, which means "annoted" or "debated".

We have established a guideline, in short terms a set of editing rules that you have to deal with in order to contribute. If your shitposter's ass is too lazy to follow up some basic rules of mutual understanding, then gtfo and stay out of the project.

If you have already a pastebin somewhere that fits with what we are asked to do here, please reformat it and stick it under as many sections you may need (I know some anons had already written their critiques somewhere about careers and science management, so gather your toughts and check it fits in the shared doc).

Last but not least, to make sure we spread the word to others anons from /KSPG/, that'd be awesome if the next OP includes the link with this simple foreword :

"This is a working document that aims to gather all the /kspg/ feedbacks and make them available to read for Dr. Turkey, the brand new production manager of Squad. Don't add your wishlists about planets and buildings, only your (harshest) critiques and gameplay suggestions. "

That's it have fun

Not going to happen thanks to "the public" being terrified of nuclear powered things, and SEP nowadays is the go-to propulsion method for long-duration mission concepts (manned Mars for example). VASIMR is a meme-drive that's going nowhere, but it is at a much higher TRL than any nuclear-thermal engine might be.

solar electric propulsion???
with that shitty power its gonna take either a ginormous engine or a long ass trip

there has to be a way to use nerva, ok orion got cancelled, but nerva is more reasonable, the fuel rods could be shiped conveniently packaged to survive even an engine failure, it could be delivered apart from the engine

whats not to lose

besides the gigantic advantage it provides over other propulsions is a game changer, once someone in washington realises this is a chance to really get people to mars and therefore have a lot of fame to hismelf he will push teh project

We really need to find a way to solve the red highlight situations.
You guys either discuss it here or we are stalled.

What do we do when a blue comment has been replied to by a red one? Is the section going to be deleted anyway or do you just delete the comments and leave the original text as it is?

There are already two blue comments that have a red reply to them and the discussion seems not to be over, but the doc is not the place to debate, so what do now? How do we get rid of that stall?

Again, public pressure will put a stop to it. Nasa even keeps using RTGs quiet as possible until after launch so things don't get cancelled because Billys Mom sees it as a full size nuclear reactor and thinks it'll cause a Fukushima-tier disaster in case the rocket launch fails.

And the reason SEP is considered is really because of that ridiculous ISP. Low thrust is less of a tradeoff in reality since you can do insanely long burns (months each) because of the ISP. SEP is usable right now, no nuclear-thermal rocket has ever been actually used for a mission. Which do you think is going to get support in congress, spending a lot of money on developing a technology that triggers the Moms of all the Billys in the country and risks the congressman losing office, or spending a little bit on existing proven technology?
>>
>>126662305
was the guy defending himself in court or was he claiming the domestic abuse was in self-defence?

defending himself. He admitted things got out of control once, then showed up why it had gotten out of control. They wrestled over an umbrella and it broke, there was a piece of metal sticking out (she testified to this as well), she swung at him with it, it hit his eye, which started bleeding, he thought he lost his vision so he restained her.

She claimed "bruises" and went to see a chiropractor for a doctors note saying she might feel some pain for a month or two.

I ended up hanging the jury. Me and a doctor were aligned but he didn't show up for the last day and the judge called it then.

Well, turn it into yellow to highlight the shit you want to see deleted in a few days. Wait a few days to see if another anons discusses your choice. If no, delete the shit intended to be deleted.

As said in the guidelines, "if whoever wrote a yellow section ignores the discussion for too long (in days, not minutes), then go ahead and delete it unless someone says otherwise. The general consensus here is as long as someone is opposed to the deletion nothing is removed."

I agree the frontier between blue and yellow can be unclear. If you have a better guideline suggestion, add it and we'll discuss it.

>the doc is not the place to debate, so what do now? How do we get rid of that stall?

Both the doc (if clean highlights are used) and /kspg/ are privileged space for thought and debate. I understand it is confusing in some ways but there isn't a better guideline atm, again feel free to propose something.

The disclaimer says You can delete yellow sections if the comment below it is ignored for some days, but I'm talking about comments that have been acknowledged and replied to with a red comment and I am wondering what to do after that.

The first red section shows a situation that will probably become common:
>anonA writes a section
>anonB yellows it and writes a blue comment below to explain why it should be deleted
>anonA replies with red comment to explain why it should not be deleted.

Then what, you delete it anyway? You can't just wait a few days after the red comment and wipe everything "because it was ignored", but you can't even leave all the mess of red and blue comments there because that shit is supposed to be temporary and of course you can't start a replying war where anons keep replying to each other in the document.

So what to do in this situation? Who decides how to proceed and if the debated yellowed section should be deleted or not?

I repeat : as long as the discussion goes, you don't delete. Yes you can wipe shit because it is ignored. If anon finds its essay has been unfairly removed he can dig his shit back from the pastebin to put it back.

That implies to backup the text whenever possible and insert links to recent pastebin.

I agree it's not perfect. At this point I guess there will be a replying war but how are we supposed to do otherwise ?

Waiting for another /kspg/ fellows to discuss this with you. Make a strawpoll to vote and change the guideline if a miracle solution strikes you.

To give a little more context. Contentious issues will be highlighted by the back-and-forths, which will either highlight the poignancy of an issue or point toward it's inappropriateness for this particular document. A decision will then be made on a case-by-case basis with an eye toward only whether the section fits in the scope, and not the content of the section itself.

Before you point it out, yes, you have no reason to trust me that any of that will actually happen, but I have a good feeling about it, if that helps.
>>
>>126666104
You know SEP concepts cut off a lot of travel time compared to chemical rockets with those months long burns right? That's why they're considered in the first place. NTR would do the same, but are nowhere near being ready to use.

Are you going to refute my arguments about which is more likely to be funded, or just going to continue to show off your ignorance?

I'm fine with this just being shitposting.
>>
>>126665914
You don't seem to get my point.

Look at the doc now, the section about the fanbase, there is no yellow for some reason but let's pretend there is for the sake of the argument (since this shit will probably happen anyway in the future).

Some anon commented on it with a blue comment, presumably to suggest the deletion of that part because he thinks it makes no sense.

Then the author replied with a red comment, explaining why he wrote that and why he thinks it makes perfect sense.

My question is: what do you do now with that yellow section?

You can't:
-appeal to the "ignored comments" rule and delete the yellow section because the comment has been clearly acknowledged by a red post, thus it can't be classified as ignored.
-leave everything there because all those comments are supposed to be temporary and cause confusion.

But the problem is:
- someone wants something deleted
- someone else doesn't want to delete it.

Somehow the situation has to be solved, someone has to decide if the yellow section can be deleted or not. How to do it?

What's the point of commenting on it if you can just wipe everything anyway despite the opinion of the author that thinks his stuff is perfectly compliant with the guidelines?

You "yellow a red comment and go on" logic will only cause an endless blue and red back and forth, which is not supposed to exist.

So your solution now should be to wait a couple of days and wipe the whole fanbase section because "eh..I decided it sucks, anon told me why it doesn't suck, but I waited two days so into the trash it goes"?
I don't really get it, and I'm not trying to start an argument, I genuinely don't get the logic behind this.

t b h f a m I've been working on the document all day and you and I have had this conversation a few times now so I don't really want to do it again but basically Career is a false paradigm, as long as S&C co-exist as mutually exclusive playstyles it will cause gameplay and feature imbalances and perpetuate a false ontology.

Career mode is an abject failure. It teaches billy nothing. It incentivizes nothing. In short, it adds nothing, and could be conceptualized as a few shitass sliders on the actually predominantly enjoyable base sandbox game.

I'm tired. Can we discuss this section tomorrow?
>>
>>126668320

Why have discussions on a text document at all? Someone marking something for deletion could leave a very brief comment and then immediately take it to the general. People discuss it, come to conclusion and then the doc is rewritten to reflect that. None of this godawful back and forth polite bollocks that just leads to stalemates and nothing being done.

The yellow and blue seem fine to me, the red seems pointless considering we have a general to discuss things.
IMO we should keep yellow and blue, especially as a reminder for those who may not be lurking the general when the issue is brought up,but scrap the red ones because they force people to argue within the document and it doesn't solve anything anyway.

If Billys Mom is okay with launching nuclear reactors into space, then it becomes okay to use NEP, which has all the benefits of EP but massively raises the wattage you can apply, which massively reduces trip time. Here is Ad Astras totally-not-marketing-VASIMR(R) article http://www.adastrarocket.com/Andrew-SPESIF-2011.pdf that gives some examples. TL;DR: 2MW is ~250 days to Mars, 50MW is ~40 days. That means less supplies needed, less radiation risk, less near-zero-G risk to health.

NTR needs cryogenic propellant which is a bitch to store for long term trips.

Then what's the point of discussing if, and i quote, "you can delete even if a red comment has shown. Why ? Because red replies are subject to "yellowed" too if no one sets out new arguments over it over time"?

But then rules greatly discourage debating with comments in the doc itself.
Then you say the author can retrieve his stuff anytime.

There is no real debate here, a bitchy author can keep retrieving his deleted stuff and a cunt commenter can keep on deleting stuff he doesn't like and they would both be perfectly "legal" as far as your rules are concerned.

Before being introduced to either, Billy must choose science or sandbox. KSP players should not self-segregate into "career" and "sandboxers" you should simply start a "game" (a redundant UX term currently in use by KSP as well) and then select style of play and difficulty. Here you can toggle funds, science points, initial funds, starting tiers perhaps, all on one screen, or you can choose to play sandbox, as Billy would likely want to do until he gets his bearings.

Instead, we have a neutered sandbox with no missions for some reason and a career that is a painful grind that slowly gets easier until you've earned sandbox with contracts.

We need to knock out the rotted illogical structure of "career/sandbox are separate but equal!" and replace it with one universal mode.

As long as Career and Sandbox remain, the game will never be complete.

Skip those for when you have better plane parts.
It will take forever to reach the other side of the planet on a plane anyway, especially on the weak engines you get at the start.

You will take a lot less time by launching a rocket and planning the trajectory so it passes on the survey zone, but you are better off doing tourist contracts and part-test contracts.

HARVEST THIS FOREVERYTHING IT'S WORTH. Don't even go to another planet.

(((This is what I also want you to do, go to the admin building get outsourced R&D and get unpaid research. What this will do is give you science for all the money you make and get you money for all the reputation you get, since reps are pretty much useless )))

Now grind the fuck out of those tourists contracts. Make something that can carry at least 5 tourists to make your money's worth.

This is my efficient system. It's 5 pods inside this structure, one is upright which is the pilot. You get 4 tourists each one is worth anywhere from 9,000-23,000$ a kerbal. You can make a killing grinding this.
