I'm gonna give the upstab/pike bracing guide in the OP a shot tomorrow for the PoP update. Upstab might help them a bit but I don't think there's a way to actually get them to crouch and brace pikes without some sort of module change, which I'd have literally no idea how to do.

It's worth noting though that PoP has a basic formations system that no one seems to know about whenever it gets mentioned. J, K, L, and ; order your troops to do shit like form ranks and shield walls. Pretty sure shield wall dumps pikes in the back so they actually have a bit of protection from shield users while they poke at shit.

In any case, if I get the upstab and crouching and shit working and no one else gets around to it, I'll upload the file for anyone else too lazy to do it.

troops will pike brace if they aren't in a mod formation
ie if you tell them to charge to break formation, then hold position and use the native formation commands (stand closer, spread out etc) they'll crouch with their polearms if they have braceable polearms

no actually, i made it for 3.720 when it came out but there've been a few patches since
i'm sure it'll work fine though since it's just actions.txt, item_kinds1.txt, and module.ini
if there are issues you could just look at the changes in the module.ini from this submod and the most recent PoP one, then just change the stuff i added (load_mod_resource = flail, display_wp_firearms = 1, and copy all the lines at the bottom to the new module.ini and paste them at the bottom, the stuff like can_crouch = 1)
and if there's item_kinds1 stuff you could just add the upstab flags manually and copy and paste the flail over to where it is in the submod item_kinds1, since it just replaces tutorial items from original M&B

Can I get more or less a walkthrough for Mount and Blade, preferably with the Floris mod? I've gotten to the boring point where I can win combats reliable, can win sieges with some effort (mostly by peppering the enemy with missles first and engaging them in melee later) but I can't get much further.

I'm playing a female character, my idea is to marry the Nord pretender and reclaim his throne but I highly doubt that I'm strong enough to pull this off at this point. This would mean singlehandedly conquering all of the Nord kingdom.

To what degree/level should I levelgrind to pull this off?

I understand. My idea was to power up, take up the banner of the Nord pretender, win the entire faction for him and then marry him, making myself queen through marriage rather than through conquest. This is a roleplay decision I've made, even though I know simply conquering myself a kingdom would be easier (I'm trying to do that with a different character).

Another idea I was hoping you could you bring in was to remove the events where Tywin becomes a king if either Stannis, Renly or the Reach take King's Landing. That event occurs every single game and it would be nice if the war between North/Riverlands and the Westerlands went on so players aren't stuck fighting Ironborn if they join those two factions.

Assuming I want to have the Jeremus circle of companions in Floris, is Nadia a companion worth having? What skills would be best to endow her with? It's a hard choice, considering she starts out as a tabula rasa and could become anything I want her to.

But if Jeremus happens to die, your party won't benefit from Wound Management, therefore it'll take a long time for Jeremus to heal up again and start benefitting himself and the rest of the party with his doctor skills. For reasons like that, it is useful to have backup INT characters with either or both the scout and doctor skills.

So I changed line_spacing first from 100 to 130 and I didn't notice anything, and then from 130 to 70 (30 under 100, same amount of change as to font_size (which I changed from 110 to 100, originally 70), and there's no change again.

So what does line_space even do? Is it even possible to change the distance between letters/distance between rows of sentences.

Are ransom missions bugged? I have no option to pay the ransom, there's seemingly no covert way to get the guy out. Literally the only way to solve it is to break the guy out on your own, even though the guy giving the quest to me implied there were other ways.

Do I need to talk to the lord of the castle privately to talk about paying the ransom? Because I can't do that because he doesn't like me enough.

Unfortunately the actual ransom part isn't there.
So yeah, only way to free him would be either slapaguard or lay siege on the castle.

You can go to the castle's attached village and talk to its village elder to do a diversionary fire and it'll lower the amount of guards to one or two when you do the prison break.

Oh cool, didn't know that. The mission-giver mentioned you could use local connections, but I had no idea what it meant.

I can take on one or two guards easily, I just can't handle the swarm without killing them all (and being a noble warrior of justice, I can only condone knocking them out with quarterstaffs, the guards only committing the crime of doing their jobs).

Okay... I just had a BSOD which resulted in the PC being ''unable to start Windows'' this happened once more in my entire life, five days ago. The problem was simply fixed by restarting the PC, same as now, I could start my PC as usual.

Trouble is, this time when I fire up Warband after this happening (the BSOD occured while playing Warband), my characters face has downs syndrome, tons of values here and there are changed seemingly randomly. For example I use the mod Silverstad, and viewing reference material - all troops, the troops are not assigned correct tiers, certain books my character has read are not longer counted as read (loss of stats), weapons and armours have completely random stats.

I presume what happened was that this BSOD occuring while playing Warband somehow meant values in the .txt's were changed, right?

Sounds like you might hafta restart from scratch.

No way to fix corrupted saves, so it's usually best to play without auto saves and save on multiple slots. That or manually backup saves.

You can just leave it right where it is. Literally just click the sav file and press ctrl+c, ctrl_v and you'll have a backup name sg00 - Copy.sav that won't get overwritten by anything and if you want to revert to it you just delete sg00.sav and rename sg00 - Copy.sav to sg00.sav.

I use this savescum so I know it works.

Not renown, inter-lord rep. Honorable lords from opposing factions like each other and wont raid each other if theyre friends. Lords that hate you will target your villages, if you get a village fast you have 0 rep with everyone and youre their primary target because youre an uknown.

Try having high rep with enemy lords, theyll not even attack you, theyll act neutral and say how they regret having to fight you when you engage.
Now try being ok with everyone and have one guy who hates you. 95% of the time youll see his name whenever your village gets raided.

Haven't checked with other mods, but I can say for sure it's happening in PoP. Doesn't really matter since the AI can't really use something that slow effectively, so you just push their shit in as soon as they start spinning it.

Everything else works fine,though. It was nice seeing crossbowmen crouch and shoot and pikemen brace spears against a cav charge.

I'm currently just staring at his army, trying to come up with something, ANYTHING that will allow me to save that village. Charging in will be the absolute last thing I do, once I've determined that no other options are available.

I've tried running towards and away from him, to try and lure him away from the village and into the vicinity of a lord with a relatively large army who's patrolling a nearby castle, but he doesn't seem to want to follow me very far. I think it's because his army is too big, and I move so much faster than him. I'm going to keep trying though. I have to.

No, it's because the AI prioritises raiding over chasing down parties. They'll give chase only over an extremely small radius around the village, allowing them to keep raiding. Once you get a certain distance away they say fuck that loser, let's go back to raping these villagers. It is not possible to kite a lord away from a village they're raiding.

One lord named Nasugei headed straight for my village the moment the war was declared. I happened to be nearby at the time, following the marshall, so I was able to rush to stop him. He had faster movement speed than me, so I had to carefully maneuver him into a position where I was able to corner him between myself and another swadian lord, and defeated and captured him.

After this battle, I patted myself on the back, thought, "Ah good, my village should be safe for a little while at least. Maybe I have time to head south and rejoin the campaign!" So I started riding off in the direction of Halmar, which was where the marshall was heading when I parted ways from him. However, I had barely reached Dhirim when suddenly someone started looting my village again. "Damn!" I thought. "What shitty luck!" However, when I got there, I found one lord named Sebula, who was being accompanied by another lord named Belir, and another lord, Hugu, who was INDEPENDENTLY raiding my village at the same fucking time. "The hell?" I thought. "That's a weird coincidence."

Sebula had the smallest and fastest army, while Belir's was the biggest and clumsiest, so I lured Sebula away until Belir was too far away to reinforce him, and then attacked and destroyed him. Then I attacked and destroyed Belir. By the time I got back to Pagundur, I couldn't find Hugu. I think I saw him riding away when I was initially approaching, so I don't know what was going on with him.

I started to ride away, thinking, "God, what the fuck was that? Why were all those lords converging on my village like that?" I had hardly gotten past Uxkhal, however, when all of a sudden my village started being raided FUCKING AGAIN. I returned, only to find this fucking asshole Tansugai, whose army is far too large for me to fight on my own. I don't know how I'm going to stop him.

And everytime you take a castle the enemy will try and retake it, leaving 10-20 soldiers in it. You should focus on defending your one city/castle. To do that just put recruits in your castles, around 700-800 is enough to repel all enemies. Then go and kill the enemy lords and find nobles to join your kingdom

Assuming he's not full of shit, though, I mean, it sort of makes sense. The AI probably ranks the enemy villages in order of priority, and his happened to be #1 or #2 on the list. Then, because he kept defending it from being raided, it never got taken OFF the list (by being successfully raided), so he just ended up facing an endless stream of enemies.

I don't think it's so much that the game was rigged against him, I just think the designers of the game didn't anticipate that a player would take so much interest in defending a single shitty village like that.

I did it once for fun, took over Narra from the khergits right after it had been besieged by someone else. had to turn difficulty way down tho, I had no right to rule so I just about immediately got war declared on me by all factions. Went from level 25 to 35 in about 3 hours just defending Narra. It's crazy what you can do on the easiest difficulty, I only had like 110 sharpshooters, when I first took over. Useful for running different mods and for using WSE.

Hey Tweakbro, I just got VC and I am trying to install your VC mod which among other things adds the upstab. However I have tried installing it twice: first time following the instructions in your readme, and the sencond time just extracting everything to the VC folder in the module file for Warband.

Both times and the game has missing textures as seen in the pic and there is no upstab for spears. The animations remain the same. I do notice that VC has the overhand downward thrust for spears which is nice but I am unable to install your mod properly.

Any advice? Thank you very much!

It's not a simple case of "more horses = more fast (max 6)", more horses will offset the weight penalty you get from carrying trade goods and food (you actually get none from armour/weapons apparently so battle loot does nothing) but at the same time, horses contribute weight themselves and eventually the weight is spread so thin among the horses that the speed penalty contributed by a horse's weight exceeds any decrease in speed penalty you get from it. Some guy tested with a bunch of values and concluded that 5-6 is a pretty good number to go with, but the actual optimal number will constantly fluctuate depending on what's in your inventory and going over it will lower your speed.

You need about 400 renown and 20 right to rule if you want convince lords to join you and defect (doesn't matter if for your kingdom or for your liege,)

For sieges, depends on mods of course but for native, one cheap way of doing it is to tell your archers/crossbowmen to hold fire for them to use their shields/pavises and fire when the defenders run out of projectiles temporarily then retreat when your side ran out. Repeat till the garrison got thinned out.

If you don't garrison the city, every lord ever is just gonna attack you, because they see the city as undefended. Just stack it with recruits, because they'll avoid it based on numbers alone.

Yeah, right now what I'm doing is performing back-and-forth trips from the various swadian villages to Narra, ferrying over groups of about 30-40 peasant recruits at a time. Meanwhile, my actual party, consisting of about 70 assorted knights and men-at-arms, is holding down the fort (literally).

It's actually been besieged twice now, while I've been away gathering peasants, but fortunately some swadian armies were in the area and took care of the problem without my having to race across the map to deal with it myself.

Also, holy mother of GOD I am making so much money now that I control a city, even though it's only a "very poor" city. I'm so glad I made the decision to capture it. I very well almost didn't bother, thinking it would surely be outside my strength range.

Because you spend fewer skill points for a greater bonus. The effective party skill level for a particular party skill is the highest skill level in the party plus a modifier based on the player's level. If the player has the highest skill level is the player's, one basically just adds extra points on; and to get the max modifier (+4) one has to be maxed in that skill anyway. If you've also captured the marshal, holding Ragnar prevents him appointing a new one and the Nords can't form up for any kind of campaign. Similar to native, but at PoP difficulties. Your biggest issue is going to be superheavy cav (think order knights and some uniques). I've done a couple no cav runs, but I always had archers/crossbowmen. If you're not looking to use them, I'd say either get some infantry that have throwing items as well, or grab the upstab/pike bracing tweak in the pastebin.

I've been using the tweak this run and I just started getting my CKO off the ground, with my sergeants using 3 stacks of thrown weapons and a pike, while my knights are shielded heavy infantry.

Just make sure if you go the pike bracing route, you assign them to another division and drop them right behind your other infantry so they can poke shit from behind the shieldwall.

I used to be able to play it just fine, and had little to no fps problems even when running it on a shitty netbook. But now I'm get consistent stuttering and low FPS on my good desktop PC.

Changed my GPU, CPU, and motherboard since I last played the game on this PC, but everything has been a significant upgrade. I can run any new game normally, it's just this PoS old game that fucks up.

Been running a mod, Hispania 1200, but I tried playing vanilla for a bit, and I still got stuttering shit framerate, though a little bit better.

This is bs. Rhodoks better vs armouted opponents veagir better against unamoued. Rhodok also have better dmg per shot but slower firing speed so dps is probably similar.

doesn't make a difference in native because they both do piercing
if anything rhodok crossbows are just better than vaegir bows when it comes to pure damage, but vaegir archers have a much higher RoF

It does though, because as you said, they hit harder. More damage goes through, not to mention the bonus crossbows have against shields. Crossbows also have a higher projectile speed, which helps with the AI's shitty aiming skills.

if bows did cut, cut gets a bonus to damage against light armor, they would do more damage vs lightly armored targets

Even piercing damage has a portion soaked by armor, so Rhodok crossbows with their higher damage would have more of that damage get through. However the Vaegirs' rate of fire would keep enemies flinching more constantly and lead to them not being able to shoot back/leaving them unable to block with a shield.

It's been a couple of years, but last I checked into it, heraldic armours get their backing color from the banners in game (duh) but the caveat is that the banners have hardcoded back colors.

Both Floris and Silverstag have a feature that lets you change the back color of any banner from an in-game menu; I don't see how it couldn't be applied to PoP.
