Okay, I'm going to attempt discussion.

Comparing Bioshock 1 & 2. I think 2 is a better game from a technical standpoint, with a slightly shittier story. I must also say that Minerva's Den is one of the best pieces of DLC I've ever played.

Thoughts?
Hopefully not waifu thoughts, because that seems to be what has left these threads so barren.

I believe BioShock 2 was created with the intention of only filling the gap between Ken's first game and his eventual return to the series. It did nothing worthwhile beyond further exploring the lore of Rapture and improving on some gameplay mechanics already established in the prior game, such as hacking. In all, it's a wholly forgettable experience that was unnecessary to the canon. It left me so disinterested that I have yet to play the DLC.

It was never a bad game. I think it just suffers from being compared to the first one. Which it of course should, but the narrative bar was set so high in 1 that 2 really couldn't compare. The ending of 2 is much better than the ending of 1, in my opinion. I liked some of the characters, like Gil Alexander, but they were a far cry from characters like Sander Cohen. The combat in 2 was a step up for me, the hacking was an improvement, and I liked some of the settings quite a bit. Maybe an unnecessary sequel, but an enjoyable one for me regardless.

If you haven't played Minerva's Den, do yourself the favor. The setting is pretty cool and the story is better than the main game's. It's shorter, of course, but definitely worth the price, especially if you can find it on sale.

Bioshock 2 had a better ending, in my opinion. Bioshock 1 has a really neat plot up until the last quarter of the game (basically until you rid yourself of code yellow and its after effects), and then falls apart. Bioshock 2 doesn't have a hell of a lot of a story up until the last quarter or so (right about when you get to Persephone), and then actually gets interesting, especially after you and Elanor team up.

I'm not sure if any of you were reading Game Informer during the build-up of Bioshock 2, but I remember a specific article about how the splicers wouldn't attack you because you were a scary big daddy, and that was almost entirely untrue. In fact, that was largely the case with Infinite as well, after all the Vox Pop shit went down.
