It is quite a bit faster, here's why.
In the wiki, first off, they state that you can get roughly 93k xp/hr in the runespan at level 90. Those numbers you see next to the node types are your xp/hr if you are siphoning that node for a full hour, which will never happen.

Now Blood runecrafting with the abyss and demonic skull is a lot faster because in their calculations they do not assume you use a familiar. I would highly recommend this as the extra 20 essence per trip will increase xp/hr to 163k. That said you might not be able to make 60 trips an hour, so expect a bit less.

Runecrafting through the abyss is also good because you make money, and if you have morytania legs 2+ (if you don't you should kill yourself) you get 10% more blood runes, xp and all.

So for abyss rc you want that demonic skull, mort legs 2+, glory amulet, a shield in case of pkers (resonance etc), all the pouches you can get (including giant), and an abyssal titan.

I am. While there's always the possibility of Jagex fucking everything up, as it currently stands it offers a new skill to play with, item sinks to account for the raw amount of items we get from easily campable bosses/slayer, new uses for resources we ignore, and customization for items we use.

Of course I still have some healthy skepticism, but if it actually comes out as a means for content we can use and something that helps the game I'm all for it, even if I lose my comp over it.

your three most expensive items are automatically saved and are given back to you for free (4 if you have protect item on, or 5 with protect tiem on and a portent/sign of item protection).

the rest of your worn items or items carried in your inventory are held by death and must be purchased back. any items in a familiar are lost upon death.

you have the option to change which items you save by right clicking them and selecting what to do with them.

you can also sacrifice items to reduce the cost of buying back your items. this is usually not very worth it however because teh amount of money they save is much less than what they are worth.

In addition to what everyone else said, if you're wearing a ring of death when you die it will lose 15% charge and you'll respawn with all your items intact, plus keep your familiar and what it's holding. The cost of that 15% charge is about 550k, which is often cheaper than reclaiming items or paying for degradation on your gravestone if you're using high end gear. Also saves time.

Smithing at least gives you access to Tetsu and universally reduces the costs of almost all gear repairs in the game.

It was just crap shrouded in an enormous map and a lot of mystery.

The magic is gone but the game is essentially the same. We've just sunk too much time to walk away from it

Of the recently released quests, Dimension of Disaster was the one that stood out when compared to the others, at least to me. I think it captured the feeling many of the old quests have while putting in a bit of the old Jagex humour without blindly resorting to spouting ebin memes at every occasion. I fucking loved the idea and concept of everything being somewhat related and connected, the fact that you could find small secrets such as the wand and offhand mage book by exploring, but at the same time I fucking hated having to do Tiny Zemouregal's tasks.
After having replayed many of the older quests semi-blindly (Buying the items needed for the quest since you actually need actual items for the old quests) and then figuring out the rest on my own, I think that the main catch of the quests is the sense of adventure when you have no idea what's going to happen next. I have some very fond memories of walking along the ice path for the first time in desert treasure, but just like almost every other quest memory I have, it's an one-time only experience.

isnt the whole point of pvm to make money? how am i supposed to do that if i go to get my drops only to get hit for 6-8k damage? sure i could use on of Solomon's pay to win pets but not everyone has them and most people use normal sumnoning familiars instead. Either way I am hoping that everyone doing wyverns is just doing it wrong because if this is how these "eliete" monsters are meant to be than its just bad. i cannot imagine anyone using t90s + overloads and yak full of rocktails getting more than 5-10 kills per trip. Turns out the new Windows update (automatically downloaded on Windows 10 because it's shit, I recommend turning off automatic updates in settings) automatically ticks the "disable display scaling on high DPI settings" box whenever you run RS. To fix uninstall recent Windows update.
