Is there anything new to do in this game? I played like 4 years ago, but all I enjoyed was scanning random stuff. The missions were too boring for me to bother grinding and making enough money to buy a plex or whatever and I'm not into PVP or being bossed around by internet nerds. I ran out of MMOs to play though.
Does this game have anything cool to do added in since then? How long does it take to get started nowadays? I think I had gotten up to being able to fly battleships or battle cruisers or whatever, but my account has surely been cleared by now.
Also does this game have anything like field bosses? Like some random powerful ship will pop in somewhere and people can kill it for a chance at goodies? I didn't play it long enough to know if there was anything like that.

this is what i was playing with on serp rats. i was partially using this to get familiar with keeping a large orbit on something manually, because you want to stay out of the rats' effective range. with serps i could use the TP in cargo instead of the fitted SD; with other rats you should experiment and think critically. remember, you're only bothering with battleships.

Generally speaking shield ancillary fits like the 3x X-LASB Vargur and Golem are best because you're basically immune to neuts which is the most dangerous thing for a Marauder.
Golem is really good at swatting small shit away with bonus to TP but the Kronos can melt shit if it gets close no matter the size.
Paladin and Vargur are great for bastion kiting if you know how to do it and you're not fighting a fuckton of people with scrams and brains.

You get the slowest progression there is out there. You can play for 10 years and still not be specialized in some areas.
You get the best economy there is out there, with industrial routes, trader routes, hauler routes being a viable careers.
But EvE is not a PvE game. There are PvE features - Missions, Incursions and such, but EvE is not a PvE game. You can get money with it, but EvE trully shines through PvP and it's player interactions.
You're getting some huge sandbox game in here, not Final Fantasy boss fighting. The game gets as interesting as you make it to be.

Eve is the only mmo I think is worth playing thanks to its uniqueness, but it's definitely not for everybody. You may need to adjust some expectations a little; for instance, pve is mostly simplistic, but the excitement really comes from being at risk of attack from other players (at least, if you leave "safe" space, which you should at some point). I suppose Incursions might meet what you're looking for, and it will take some time before you're able to do them.
Player corps/alliances can own space/structures, but it's not like you build a house or customize the interior. However, with the upcoming citadels, muh immersions might be improved a little
Definitely give it a shot and be open-minded. Don't be antisocial; reaching out and making connections is what makes the game fun. And don't get attached to ships, they're completely disposable

A lot of the newer changes haven't been so bad, foozie sov is the only "bad" thing they could have done, but it stopped the cancer that was dominion sov so even if it's just a stop gap it worked. Everything else has been good. Actual improvements, actual logical things that I can understand why they're doing. Quality of life improvements everywhere. If the game is dying It's not because of CCP.

Really depends what you wanna do. But if you aren't sure yet you could always just start out training combat skills and missioning. Some of the same player skills (understanding how damage is applied and moving your ship) and many of the same character skills (tanking skills, weapon module skills, drone skills, ship skills) can transfer from missions to multiple forms of pvp, wormholes, combat exploration, incursions and other.
But if 'best' you mean making the most money, it's trading. Some of the richest people in New Eden probably almost never undock.

Don't do it as a new player. You need billions of starting capital to make meaningful profits. If you start with like 100mil you're going to maybe double it if you're lucky over the span of a week. For reference, 100mil/hour is half of what you can make blitzing level 4 missions.

You can 'activate' a module while waiting for lock. It will fire at the same time the lock is acquired. You didn't have advanced warning of the fact he locked onto you because he did that at the same time you were destroyed.
You do not get advanced warning of the fact that their locking is in progress. You just get a yellow box once they've actually locked on.
Also anyone can use a passive targeting module so they don't yellowbox you when they lock. So newbies sometimes think their hauler hasn't been scanned because they never saw anyone yellowbox them at a gate -- not so!

there are several people who've blogged their experiences with trading, and some all the way from the beginning. I'd suggest reading http://marketsforisk.blogspot.com/ from his first post in 2012 or 2013. You can start with as little or as much capital as you want; a casual look through his posts reveals that he got up to 9b from literally the money from the tutorials in three months. If you are able to fit a 2nd plate 200/400mm plate then sure, but it's unlikely (they are heavy on fitting). In this case the fit is already as tanky as it can get (it's also one of the tankiest frigates), the repairer would help you if the logi in your fleet are slow to react.
