I assume this is referring to each new generation? If so then that's not true, since ACV is basically a continuation of FA's in the distant future. Gen 3 is also its own timeline, and isn't related to any of the games before 3, and after Last Raven. That means that AC3 is really the only reboot, if I understand what you're saying correctly.

I was confused when I left the theater. I wasn't sure if it was good or not. I mean, the flow was decent, kinda rushed though, but there were absolutely rage inducing moments and huge HUGE plotholes. You know, I kept thinking about this, and before I say it, let me add I am aware PS2 games are fairly old and a lot of them (Including AC) Were probably modeled straight down to level design rather than having a construction set so expanding would be difficult.

But I kept thinking if they did a proper HD port of Armored Core for PS2 on the PS4, They could probably for the price of a couple gigs, include every piece and weapon from AC2 all the Way through nexus, and edit the mission areas from those tiny square zones into proper current-gen sized mission areas.

Its good enough that I keep playing it but so far I've had some issues with it, you can decide if you wanna look past them or not.

1: Its always online.
I had it for 3 days now, and one of those days I spent two hours staring at the start screen while EA decided they probably might want to fix the fact someone shut off the server.

2: GPS is busted.
The little navigation line you see on the ground showing you the course will sometimes disappear during the races, both on the track and on the minimap if you're far enough ahead of the pack, basically forcing you to restart the race, as well as having this horrible design decision of fading the racing line entirely (Making it almost invisible) Before sharp turns and forks in the road often forcing you to restart the race because you didn't notice you turned in the wrong direction, and honestly it feels like an intentional design decision to prolong gameplay by intentionally making you fuck up.

3: Cops basically only show up during the races.
There is a mechanic that, when cops start chasing you, if you stop immediately and push a button, you pay a fine and they go away, but since they only show up in races, the mechanic is fucking useless, and since the game is always online, there is no pause button, which basically means most racesyou can't reset even if you're trailing behind.

4: Cops and AI races spawn around corners.
In a lot of evens they appear to be programmed to spawn on tight corners coming from the opposite direction to make you crash intentionally (I've actually had to reset a race six times in a row because the same racer kept spawning in the same corner and there was no way for me to get around him, basically had to stop before the corner, wait for him to pass, and then continue, thankfully it was a drift event so time didn't matter, but if it was time attack or something, well you can see the issue)

5:Mother of all convoluted editors.
Half the controls are unintuitive, the other half aren't displayed so you'll just have to gain the knowledge of its use from the force.

6:AI Rubberbands like a motherfucker, you don't.
AI could crash in a truck at the start of the race and fall behind so much that you're going uphill on a straight road and you won't be able to see it behind you, but first time you decide to take a turn they'll drop out of hyperdriver like its nobody's business. On the other hand if you hit something and their arrow goes off your very short range radar, you might as well reset, you won't catch up.

6:AI is on rails and knows it.
Its hard as fuck for AI to crash into shit, they're all perfect racers, its near impossible to push them off the road while you fly off with a tap, the AI seems to be aware of this and genuinely goes out of its way to tap you off the road.

6:Icon cars.
So you buy your car, spend hundreds of thousands into tuning and modding it to look and feel exactly how you want, and then somehow story gives you these "Icon" cars that were stolen or gained from other story racers, and you have to beat another AI in it to pogress the story, the thing is, the ai you have to beat usually has a car that you can barely beat in your own ride, but these icon cars are generally little third rate stock pieces of shit and you cannot edit them in any way because according to the lore they're perfect artworks painstakingly made and tuned by the most autismos of the racing world.

So many fucking cutscenes in the game and they all have mandatory two fistbump minimum limit and you're first person so you watch this shit happen to you, its like fucking dudebro simulator. And the worst of the cancerous twitter culture is diafied in this game with every race finishing from omniscient ai audience that shits out ebin tweet quotes popping on your screen like "Ebin air! U sure ur aero ain't upside down" and "Like rockit man, u wer cozmik!"
I left this for last because clearly its cosmetic but still can get annoying.

Dirt 2 is great if you can get over the brodude gymkhana shit, trailblazer and rally in particular. Dirt 3 has better grafix and splitscreen but wasn't quite as fun somehow. Yes, its one of the best arcade games out on the PS3 right now. However as the aces on /aceg/ will tell you ACI is a grind fest and be prepared if you have a planefu that you want to delicate your time and credits to. The story is not bad but its up to you to decide if you want to spend that 20 dollars on the campaign ticket. Sure, but I couldn't just print out the model I had, It'd be a design nightmare trying to find a way to interlock hexagonal discs of varying sizes in a way that would allow meaningfull customization within limited size (Lets say action-figure 7 inch standard) Not to mention that, to have a chip actually detect how the pieces are connected the number of possible connections would have to be reduced severely.

The only way it could really work is if it went the medabots route where you have a base skeleton and then you can sell pieces that snap onto it.

But hey, if you ever feel like you know someone that can make this work, by all means, its not like I hold a patent on hexagons. Though Apple probably does in some way.

I was cringing a bit about the 4 and 4As visual direction, but V and VD really pushed the shit to the max. I hate film grain, I hate dark muted colors, I don't know why they so desparately switched to "realism" school of thought. I hate the plastic jug design of half the new pieces.

I would say you're correct if we couldn't customize anything but at the very least we can paint our own ACs. Back when ACV came out like you I had a hard time adjusting to the visuals as well. I think the only way to do AC anime right is not to focus on a single mc. Make it into something like an episodic dogs of war story. Each episode can feature different Raven,Links or AC pilots and that way it can adopt to different settings of the games and not just focus on one particular setting.

What about a serie during FA time. A academy that trains orphans as pilots, the elite class is made from kids that are confirmed to have enough AMS to pilot a NEXT, once they complete their training, they are bascially sold to the corporations. During a practice accident or attack on the city, one of the elite kids is lost in the confusion, the academy left him/her for death, but in reality s/he survives and group of mercs find him, seeing how they just got their hand on a NEXT pilot they take him/her and train him/her to be part of the group, a timeskip later, he is know a official LYNX, registered on Collared and his/her career as independant LYNX with his/her merc band starts.
