The game is brutal initially until you get the hang of it. You go adventure a little too far from the beach and then lose all your shit to a raptor. But then you start taming trikes and build a base and everything falls into place. Just don't play with official rates, they are pointlessly grindy. So far we've gotten some different armor pieces, nice saddles and some lower stuff. No weapons but I'm under the impression that their yield decreases with each drop in one night.

It's not bad if you are playing solo or in a small pve like community. The problem is ascendant gear can go from 2 to 6+ times better than primitive, while the other 3 tiers are between 1 to 2. And a mastercraft or ascendant saddle giving 60k health dinos 80-90% damage reduction means you need to either massively outnumber your target or spam explosives to have a chance with primitive gear.

I think there is a way to tweak the mod so it doesn't drop the op items, but still get nicer items than water jars. Of course, when the real devs get to fixing the beacons themselves, they'll probably fuck up and put all the op shit in.

Well, yes and no -it's true that mastercraft giganoto saddle is ridiculous, but mostly because the giganoto is already ridiculous itself (we nerfed it to have x2 a rex's melee and x3 a rex's HP -or maybe the other way around). Not to mention that Raptor Clause's gift are technically available to anyone. Maybe you could argue that endgame tribes can claim the drops faster, but once the better beacons are developed in the real game even a low-level tribe or individual can get those sweet drops, thus balancing the game.

Quetz saddles should be included in the list of non drops. The damage multiplier on flyers exists to counter people having flying tanks that can't be countered without another better flyer. The area around the volcano has the highest density of high nodes and even then there are not many. There are very few reds outside it. I stand by my statement that it wouldn't be hard to defend them as a large tribe. In a less dramatic example, the largest tribe might hold 4-5 reds, a few mid sized might have 2-3, and you would be lucky to find one unprotected.

So a new tribe has access to only mediocre beacons with items that aren't useful for raiding. Even if they were unblocked, you need to farm them to get the resources to match established tribes. Adding more barriers for new players to pvp is the opposite of what the game needs.

If you like dinosaurs, you'll probably get at least a couple dozen hours out of it before getting bored. Some people stay playing much much longer. The game has a steep learning curve, so if you are expecting a game to just jump into and know everything, it's probably not for you. You can drastically lessen it by playing at non official rates, so either play on DnC or set the gather/tame rates higher on a single player game.

The devs should consider the possibiliy of allowing larger servers, the Ark map is sort of fine for the official 70 players but even then might feel too populated. From my MMORPG days, the difference between a 70 people server and a 200ish one is HUGE -and 3x the map with 3x people is just the right scaling.
I haven't played Valhalla but, even if I fucking love huge maps, I can see the point of people here say it might feel deserted (except the shitposter)
