Toriel and Asgore didn't have kids until after the war with the humans. While we can't know if they were together before it, we do they ended up together after it, and had their kid after moving to New Home from the Ruins. Given the weapons seen wielded by the humans, they weren't especially advanced, probably medieval at best, and also considering Sans' dialogue, she was probably born, became an adult, the war occured and went on for some period of time, she ended up with Asgore, they moved to New Home, had Asriel, the fallen child fell, and here we are. The real question is whether it was Frisk or Chara who showed up in 201X, because if it's Chara then the year Frisk fell is significantly after the fact, but if it's Frisk, then Chara could've fallen easily hundreds of years ago, and the others came in the coming eras. All in all, Asgore and Toriel are at least 600 to 1000 years old, but as described stopped aging after Asriel's death, and would have the appearance of middle adults for their given type of monster.

My best guess is abuse and neglect.

I've always shipped shit my whole life. It's never really gone beyond the feeling of "I like to play sports so I play a lot of different sports". Shipping doesn't MEAN that much to me.
So initially, I didn't care for Papyton because I thought it was just yaoi shipping for the sake of yaoi shipping, with them being the two most... uh, "regular" guys around that also have a big following. Almost all the TF fandom got on board the UT fandom due to MTT, but strangely I haven't heard anyone else acknowledge the similarities in smut, but I noticed it right away.

It's probably more realistic as it's been my monster-on-monster reproduction headcanon since day 1.

I only wrote ectodick before anybody else did and started the whole mess as an answer to human-on-monster relations.
