No Edition Edition

> Can the game be considered a full release?
No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state.
The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective.
There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

> Are there big issues with the game?
Bugs and instability are still real and frequent problems, as with every product still in beta. Ask in thread for details.

> What are the devs doing?
Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version. The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better.
An external team with heavily questionable experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U. They seem to be rushing for an imminent deadline and they are also working on a version of the game that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months.

> Should I buy the game?
KSP is very enjoyable at first, then it usually needs to be modded to retain some sort of longevity, but doing so may dramatically increase the instability of the game. You will be very familiar with the word "Oops!".
The Developers, Squad, have shown many times that they can't handle the project and are trying to squeeze all the money they can with the least amount of effort and with controversial PR tactics.
The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you shouldn't purchase the game, not because the game itself is unplayable, but because most of us agree that Squad does not deserve your money.

Every change to the OP has to be discussed.

Why change the OP anyway?

IIRC that other OP was a proposal that went along this OP we have now, apparently this one won and that one didn't so this is probably the butthurt loser that is trying to come back.

>>
>>125686556
OK, I'll explain to you the logic since you are clearly too stupid to get it yourself or you are pretending to be stupid.

I said it was old and I was implying that a straw poll several weeks/months old could have been manipulated in all sorts of ways to make it show what you want it to show (in this case: your OP was good).

Since you posted it anyway and decided that malicious manipulation was not an issue, I brought up the other poll, which was newer because it was posted after yours, in which, at the time it was posted, your OP lost against this new OP.

now the choice is yours, you can disregard the newer poll (for the same reason I am disregarding the one you posted), but at that point both polls are not valid anymore and yoh should go through the usual approval process again OR you can assume both polls are valid, brag about winning against the old OP, but you should also acknowledge the newer poll where you clearly lose against the competition.

The fact that you saved a poll link for all this time makes it clear how butthurt you are, so this logic will never get to your brain and you will keep screaming le shillmaster meme at everyone because you are an idiot.
>>
>>125687374
Still we voted again afterwards if we'd use your version or the current one. The current one won. Why are we still arguing about this?
>>
>>125687115
The title.
>>
This is not a poll about which OP we will use, that was already decided upon by the group as being the OP used in this thread.

This is a poll about which OP you personally prefer. For the purposes of keeping the poll options as unambiguous as possible, "this thread" is defined as >>125684627 (with a comic shopped with Hullo) and "that thread" is defined as >>125684301 (with Oneill cylinders).

http://strawpoll.me/6293021
>>
>>125687374
It was still voted as a better alternative to your OP.

Holy fuck you are truly mad
>>
>>125687678
At this point I can't even be mad about F4.
Skyrim sold like hot buns and it was clear that they'll just take the same try on Fallout.
People who believed the hype have to blame only themselves. Believing any hype is dumb.
I didn't bought it and I'm happy about it.

I hope they'll update the engine, and switch the team for the next Elder Scrolls game.

>>
>>125687585
>I said it was old and I was implying that a straw poll several weeks/months old could have been manipulated in all sorts of ways to make it show what you want it to show (in this case: your OP was good).

At which point brings into question the other Strawpoll as well. Since you accept that the other one wasn't manipulated, it's illogical for you to raise the same argument for the one I posted.

>now the choice is yours, you can disregard the newer poll (for the same reason I am disregarding the one you posted), but at that point both polls are not valid anymore and yoh should go through the usual approval process again OR you can assume both polls are valid, brag about winning against the old OP, but you should also acknowledge the newer poll where you clearly lose against the competition.
Except that this isn't some sort of competition. The current OP is shit, bordering on Pro-Squad shilling, and I simply didn't feel like using it. Want me to not make threads with that OP? Let's write a new one that isn't tone policed into the ground.

>The fact that you saved a poll link for all this time makes it clear how butthurt you are

>>125688151
So you have a gripe against the OP but rather than taking this to the group, you instead decided that you are better than everyone else and took matters into your own hands. Now you're acting surprised when everyone else calls you a fucking dumbass.

You can still have a discussion about the OP if you want, but don't go making decisions on behalf of other people.

You bring up a straw poll, you already assume it is valid.
I bring up a straw poll and say "hey, isn't that a bit too old? If you are OK with that one, you are OK with this one where it shows you lose"

I'm giving you the option, since you are the one that started this mess.
You decide, I adapt to your decision.

You decide your straw poll is good? Fine, but then you have to acknowledge the other straw poll too and this discussion ends here because the poll shows your OP loses against the one we are using now. Nothing to decide anymore, kspg already chose.

You decide that both strawpolls need to be disregarded (despite everyone saying you lost anyway)? Fine, then you start proposing your OP again, have it revised in multiple thread at multiple hours so every time zone for several days can see it and then we will look at the results.

But since you are an angry cunt and forced your OP down everyone's throat, nobody will like your new proposal. Get over it.

Now I wasn't around for when the discussions about the OP changes were going on, but I do remember someone pointing out the old OP sounded crazy enough to get people to not take anything we said seriously.

The current OP of this thread says much the same thing as the old one, but it says it in a way that doesn't make us all out to be incredibly butthurt over the tiniest details, and points out the genuine concerns we all have about the games development. The much more measured and "tone policed" version means people are less likely to outright deny any and all claims made out of a kneejerk reaction to the text sounding like it came from a crazed conspiracy theorist, and are more likely to take the points made into consideration.

If I'm wrong about any of that (since I wasn't around), someone please correct me.
>>
>>125698039
Nope, that's right
>>
>>125698039
There's nothing wrong with tearing the game down in a measured way. There is, however, something wrong with policing your tone - this isn't the fucking subreddit.

Read the OP - it ignores most of the biggest issues about KSP, and reads more like it's trying to appease /kspg/'s opinions on things as opposed to actually saying anything. And to make matters worse, the places where it *does* say anything negative about KSP manages to be vague enough to confuse somebody new coming into the thread.

This can be easily misconstrued as saying that the game *is* in early access. That isn't the case. This is a full release. Treat it as such - that isn't a clever joke, it's adding needless confusion.
>Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version.
>The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better.
By the very act of pretending any of this has happened, not only have we given ammunition against ourselves in the anti-squad discussion, but we've not mentioned the fact that they've claimed numerous times prior to do these very same things, and accomplished none of them.

These things undermine our stance (that KSP is a disaster of a game,) and make us seem less crazy, and more bipolar than anything else.

>By the very act of pretending any of this has happened

But popular mods have literally been added to the game and they look like they are still going that way.
And about 1.1 there is a nice "supposedly" to make it clear none of that is confirmed.

So what the fuck are you on about?
>>
>>125699548
>This can be easily misconstrued as saying that the game *is* in early access. That isn't the case. This is a full release. Treat it as such - that isn't a clever joke, it's adding needless confusion.
The "every product still in beta" comment comes after the "should be considered still in early access" comment. Anyone who is capable of reading can put the two together, but seeing as there are people such as yourself who are incapable of such daring feats of comprehension it could certainly be reworded to be more clear. Perhaps mentioning that 1.0 was only really leapt to so the game could be sold on GoG could be mentioned, but there is no hard proof of that so such a claim is immediately suspect.

Literally said at the beginning of the OP

>Squad using feminism as a marketing tool
Nobody cares, especially someone who knows nothing of the game and wants to see if it is fun to play

>Squad's Tax Evasion
Same as above

>KSP being a multi-million earning IP
Same as above. If anything, it make people think the game is good.

>Their abusive community managment
Same as above, even if it is implied in the OP already

>Their usage of threats against people that disagree with them
This needs proof, especially if you want to include such claims in the OP. Not even the old OP had this shit.

>Their employment of strongmen to that end
Who cares

>Their near-constant lying
Already said in the OP

>Their technical incompetence
Already said in the OP

>ect
>ect

Dude, it's an OP, it has to stay within 2000characters, you can't squeeze every stupid detail. The OP we have now is fine and is enough for someone to have doubts about the game and ask here for details.

It's you who have to tell all those stories to newcomers, not the OP.
The OP has to say "this game has problems, ask for details" and the current one goes a long way in doing that.
The other OP proposed does a shittier job than the old OP at listing all the things you mentioned, so calm your tits and write your own OP for us to see and rate

But he's right you know.
As much as you don't like it, they played their PR cards right and nailed pretty much every review in existence.
They sold a lot, a lot of people enjoy their game and, especially, most people don't give two shits about development or business tactics as long as they are playing something that they think is fun.

Did I care if, say, DICE used their money to buy gold plated lamborghinis? Not in the slightest because I still had BF3 to play, which was a fun game despite all its problems.
Did I care if Rockstar routed their money through offshore banks and noname accounts? Absolutely not, but I had a blast with GTA4, and holy shit the game was far from perfect.
I can go on with every good game I ever played, but hopefully you got the point.

>>125701530
This proves nothing, what's more, they made a forum post or something explaining why they did that and that's the only proof you will ever have.
You can't prove why they did that, you don't have access to their money transfers or their sales report so you are just screaming like a little bitch about something you have literally zero arguments against.
You may say that looks shady, sure, but you can't prove anything

Just give me a rundown of the political situation with the various candidates

Also Aren't they actually running for presidency no, are they? How does it work? You vote for who gets in charge of the party and all the winners run for president?
>>
>>125712729
Basically, prior to the general election, which actually elects the President, parties usually hold primary elections to determine which of their candidates they'll nominate for President
The deal with Trump, as far as I know, is that the things he says are somewhat outlandish and non-politically correct, but he's scoring miles ahead of everyone else on the polls and is more likely to win the presidency than any other Republican candidates, even though the higher-up Republican party members themselves don't like him

A writeup is three paragraphs or ten pages of text.

Three paragraphs painting broad strokes, ten pages outlining every detail, it is whatever we want it to be.

I'm thinking a few paragraphs starting with small scope and moving outwards to talk about some of the more fundamental issues / missed connections.

Maybe even a paragraph about KSP's lasting future, it's legacy, if you will.

I'm happy to do it alone, but I wanted to offer to share it with you guys because I know for a fact you are smarter and more knowledgable about many aspects of the game.

Interesting, but more a laundry list of issues. I might boil it down and use it as material for a first paragraph discussing current game limitations.

I also see value in bringing up the larger game implications, but I'd rather not harp on how fucked up the current iteration is, and think more about what care be torn down realistically and how to use existing assets to rebuild it.

Then again, they just spent the past 8 mos doing that, then left everything the same.
>>
>>125722515
Remember that it doesn't matter how detailed or well thought out your arguments for whatever might be, if they're not feasible they won't ever be considered. Completely tearing the game down and rebuilding from scratch simply won't happen.

Picking at certain subsystems and rebuilding those individual elements is much more feasible, as is rebalancing existing systems (since that's "just" changing some numbers in configs to a new schema).

What I’ve never understood about ksp is why the devs act like it is a forbidden pleasure — why the secrecy and sudden changes of tack? Why not release every build as a beta and collect feedback for a week before releasing the final version? (they do do this, but they won’t admit it) There’s no reason the people literally willing to work for free can’t collaborate enough to share knowledge with the people writing the base game code. Give Harv a break, take him off code duty, just let the whole thing breathe!

Open it all up. Publish the source code. Its value only decays if it is locked away. What do you think the right path forward is?

The problem is that KSP is an explosion-simulator game for the vast majority of players. The average person isn't going to talk about that to their friends, so the games sales only spike like that due to marketing. 1.0 in particular they had PewDiePie play it and some extra exposure on popular websites and shit.
>>
>>125727326
Good because I post the Kendrick Lamar videos and I'm as white as freshly fallen snow.
>>
>>125727345
Yeah, and that marketing had no sticking power whatsoever. On the other hand "hey, this is what a hohman transfer is, nerd." has a pretty lasting effect [citation needed].

It's not about blowing stuff up. It's about picking each other up by our boosters and struts and teaching one another how fucking scary space is. That's ksp's lasting power.
>>
>>125727732
And no one gives a shit about the rest of the game because the average person doesn't give a shit about learning something slightly difficult, and KSP obscures what there is to learn from it behind godawful tutorials, a shit UI and really shit first-time-player experience (see >>125722018). So people buy it, have some fun exploding things before giving up learning anything and probably 90% of the time dropping it forever.

I'm hoping this discussion can be broken down by someone into something useful for Dr Turkey to go through, because holy shit the game has some big issues. Luckily things like KSPedia in 1.1 will help with some of it.

>>
>>125729159
yeah, and I'm saying don't just pile it on like another game mode, that's just adding a whole new paradigm to QA every month (now that they are on scrum)

I've used DMP, I found it relatively enjoyable aside from the lack of collisions. I never did see one with mod support. I imagine that will require a new way of loading assets mid game, which from what I gather is impossible now.

Who will respond to abuse complaints? How will they be enforced? These are the questions that confuse me.

You have to bleed the whole system, not just empty the reservoir tank.

Literally remove one of the hoses from the tank and have it drip down into something, the lower you open a hose, the better. Start the engine a few seconds so the pump can empty itself and you can bleed that too.

Once nothing comes out anymore, close everything, fill with new fluid, start the engine and do a lot of turns with the wheel until the pump stops making horrible sounds.

Check back after some days and miles, pull out some of the fluid with the syringe and see if it still looks new. If it doesn't, do the bleed again.

What I.meant was that you should finish the cleaning job or the problem will come up again sooner or later, and it will be worse. Power steering pumps will happily cavitate on the slightest shit and are quite delicate, you don't want that to shit itself all of a sudden while driving.

Do it once so you don't have to do it again, you are now just contaminating what you put in the tank with the rest of the system that still has dirty fluid (and the steering rack has a lot of fluid that you didn't drain).
When it comes to steering, brakes and tires you better not underestimate the problems.

The idea that you have to put X craft in Y orbit to be able to go past Z altitude is fucking stupid and makes zero sense.

The idea of having to send X craft (with science instruments) to Y orbit around Z body to see any info on the body makes more sense. Basically, a discovery system where you don't know shit about your target until you actually fucking go there, rather than the existing system of going to the tracking station, navigating to the planet and seeing everything on the surface in okay detail, and having all the info (like gravity constant etc.) visible to a really high accuracy.

You're not going anywhere, friendo.

Your ideas operate within the currently laid out framework, which I disagree with, but I've said enough about that so let's assume Squad refuses to make drastic changes and we need to operate in this paradigm.

Your claims about contracts are outdated. I think Squad actually implemented some of your ideas, but I don't play career.

I strongly agree with the end game graf though. I've advocated for a gravity lift as a future tier, but I'd honestly settle for stockifying KSPI if that were a possibility. It's by no means perfect but it gets the gist.

The game should certainly get harder. And its most advanced tiers should somewhat dovetail with current technology and theory.
>>
>>125733981
To extend on this, the first thing (and the suggestion of forcing probe missions) is stupid because its doing exactly what the game does now (with arbitrary goals form contracts) but tacks on player punishment and railroading on top of it. You can get the exact same gameplay goal (getting the player to actually explore in measured, planned steps) through a discovery system that lets an experienced player continue to do what they want without penalising them, and giving an inexperienced player some practice with easy goals (like a one-way probe to see if whatever planet has an atmosphere).
>>
>>125733981
I know it makes no sense, but You can fill it with flavour texts, say you need that sat for antennas, or you use it as a telescope or whatever can justify you not being able to go past a certain altitude without some kind of probe that scans the area or something.

it is not that realistic, but it can be one of those early missions where the player familiarises with the fact that he can't go on if he doesn't complete a set of specific missions (on top of the usual contracts).

It is to give you something to do.
Instead of aimlessly going around your planet and its low orbit, you know from the start you will need to put a satellite with X, Y and Z component in a precise-ish orbit or he will be stuck with that planet and its low orbit.
>>
I think what everyone wants to say but is struggling with is "fuck the contracts system"
>>
what if instead of part test contracts every part can be tested in every condition and you gain science whenever you go somewhere new?
>>
>>125734282

>Your claims about contracts are outdated. I think Squad actually implemented some of your ideas, but I don't play career. .

Nope, every single stock contract is optional and can be skipped entirely. Your only limitation is money and you can choose whatever contract you want to get that, but you can just basically pretend it is sandbox, do whatever the hell you like, fullfill random contracts once in a while to get money and the game would go on without a problem.
Nobody forces you to do anything in career. It is literally limited sandbox with side quests

I thought someone said something about a rep hit when you decline them. I guess I heard wrong.

For the record I don't disagree with any of that. Gated-off features does not a career mode make.

If the point of the game is to restore it to Sandbox mode, you're just applying arbitrary limitations on yourself in a merely self-harmful way.
>>
>>125734282
>The game should certainly get harder. And its most advanced tiers should somewhat dovetail with current technology and theory.
(from the pastebin)
>Difficulty should not decrease as the game progresses, it should increase.
I read something the other day on /agdg/ or /tg/ or somewhere about game difficulty and scaling with the player in terms of "flow", it had a neat graph to show what I'm about to explain. The ideal system of difficulty is one where the player is always challenged by something as their skill level increases. If the game is harder than they can cope with they get frustrated and enjoy it less (see early career mode), if the game is easier than what the player can cope with they get bored and enjoy it less (see end-game career).

The problem lies in that you can't make the game harder with planets further out (more gas giants etc) since all that does is increase dV costs. You could argue that this might make the rocket design/building side harder and you may be right, but on the flying side its the same shit. Another point is that the way the engines are currently balanced with the tech tree (higher tech is always better) just leads to making the game easier when the player is also getting better at it, without also giving the player any decent challenge to go along with those things.

An end-game goal like a warpdrive (as suggested in the pastebin) that requires some amount of infrastructure in odd places and a fair bit of science would be great after they have it, but acquiring it might become a grind in that period where gameplay isn't challenging to the player.
>>
>>125735390
Yes you get a rep penalty for declining or failing contracts and for killing kerbals, but that only has an impact on the kind of contracts that are offered (low rep = boring shit with low money gain) and nothing else.
You are really not limited by reputation, contracts will still spawn and some high reward contract will always be present even if you intentionally go as low with rep as you can.
>>
>>125735774
There's actually a specific admin strategy designed around avoiding contracts and getting more funds from the "world first" rewards.
>>
>>125735550
What does "difficulty" mean once you can achieve orbit, dock, and make interplanetary burns?

>higher rocket efficiency
>more lifting power

that's what I aim to optimize. Beyond that, I'd want a way to standardize lifters and better organize missions and crafts.

What do you guys aim to optimize when you build?

Here's a version of the diagram. You could say point 1 is early career and point 2 is late career. If you google "game flow difficulty diagram" you can see a bunch of similar ones.
>>125735947
That's the problem with KSP. Flight gameplay can be mastered pretty quickly (it comes down to gaining orbit, doing transfers and doing rendezvous), design/build gameplay is hampered by lack of planning tools (like showing dV/TWR etc), exploration gameplay is limited by everything being visible from the start (see >>125734439 about discovery mechanics) and really bland planetary surfaces, and planning gameplay is almost nonexistant due to the lack of tools to help it (like dV maps, transfer windows and porkchop plots etc.).
>>
>>125736693
That's an interesting graph.
>>
>>125736954
Do you agree with what I'm going on about with it though?
>>
>>125736693
What's funny is the "lel exploding rockets" school-of-though doesn't allow for that calm retrospection, and probably is related to why those who are told this is an explosion simulator don't become loyal fans [see 1.0 web traffic], so yes I do agree with what you're saying.

But the trick is to turn the cadence from "build/fly/build/fly" to adding a space ops component. The "endgame" so-to-speak
>>
>>125735947
Difficulty, for me, mainly means dealing with craft design.
As the other anon said, parts get universally better as you progress, which actually makes ship easier to make (one big engine instead of multiple weaker ones, less fuel to bring because new engines all get better Isp, etc).

At the end of the tech three you will be basically always be using the mainsail to launch and the nukes/ions to go to other planets, leaving most of the parts unused.

What I like of early careers is having to deal with the limits of parts. Do I really want this big an powerful engine or can I do with more smaller ones that are cheaper and lighter but will burn more fuel? Do I want a pod that can seat more people and be heavy as fuck or do I use more smaller pods but end up with a taller and more unstable rocket because of multiple stacked parts vs a single part? Do I bring more batteries and add weight or bring less and risk draining all the charge when I can't use panels (like during reentry)?
Stuff like that adds difficulty, it makes you take risks in one direction (like rjsk draining batteries) to make your life easier in another direction (less batteries = less weight and more dV).
As you unlock parts you take less and less risks because every part is simply better at doing everything.

Newer part should be only better at one thing, but be worse at something else, not better at everything.
>>
fuck, I get it now.

It's hard to put your finger on, but... it's like the incentive and the challenge have been inverted.

The "fun" comes from making do with few parts. The "challenge" is unlocked when you succeed a lot.

The game de-facto gets "less fun" the more you achieve, incentivizing stalling in the progression and playing a tiny portion of the game.

I'm getting tired. I might fall asleep soon.

But I have had a chance to sleep and have realized that without an attempt to uphold the values eschewed yesterday, this is all just another tactic.

If you're looking for me to drop the kerbal declaration of independence, prepare to be disappointed. The beauty of a great document is in its ability to capture the spirit of a moment.

This moment is particularly hard to capture the spirit of -- and there's an overwhelming sense that it'll all be over in a year anyway, so what's the point?

I don't think you get a rep hit for declining contracts. You only get a penalty if you fail or cancel the contract, and even then, if you cancel a contract early on, you only get penalized based on how much time you dawdled on the contract. In fact, accepting and immediately canceling a contract may even ignore the penalty completely.

What bugs me the most is that Microsoft clearly has problems deciding if they want Windows 8 to be on tablets or on a PC.

The operation system just seems so damn schizophrenic. And still they continue doing it with Windows 10. But that's the smallest problem of Win10.

Why not just make a seperate OS for tablet and PC? It's not fucking rocket science.

I'm just glad that ED isn't subscription based. It could've been worse.

For anyone wondering what's going on, /kspg/ is in a holding pattern while we wait for confirmation that yesterday was more than empty words.

What we're looking for: an understanding of what feedback will be valued versus what will be discarded.

Types of feedback we can provide: overall game positioning, easily implementable feedback, etc, but we need to know what is actually desired before we can embark fully on this endeavor.

As said yesterday, what I want is endgame content and some mandatory missions that limit your progression/tech/possibilities if not accomplished. I dotb know how easy this is to implement, but I feel this is the main problem with a career that is anything but progressive or challenging.
And money, god there is so much wrong with how money is handled in this game.
I think this may be a common feeling with people who enjoy playing career and is the reason why basically everyone switches to mods.

I can't speak for sandbox, but someone else will probably be able to elaborate on that.

>I can't speak for sandbox, but someone else will probably be able to elaborate on that.
Allow me
The problem with sandbox, and career as well, is that the only fun there is to be had is in learning how to maneuver in orbit
Once you've got that figured out, that's it, the fun is gone
There is absolutely jack shit to do on the surface of a planet, all there is to do is drive/fly around boring featureless terrain and get free fuel
Once you know how to get from point A to point B, you quickly realize that there's no reason to go to point B, as it's barely any different from point A, or C or D or E for that matter
Even in career one can reasonably fill out the tech tree without going anywhere beyond the Kerbin and Duna systems, and once you've got the tech tree done, what else is there to do?
Rack up cash that you have no longer have any real use for?

>>
>>125815734
Yeah, that actually brings up the endgame stuff again.
Sandbox may have that unlocked from the start, but it should still need a ton of launches and infrastructure for it to work properly. Examples listed yesterday were the alcubierre drive and a space elevator.
In the end, all you have is parts, but you have to make them work somehow and endgame parts should need a ton of effort to work.

Those two.examples of endgame stuff still focuses more on the journey rather than the destination thoigh. I can't really come up with something interesting to do on planets that could also fall in the endgame category to be honest.

Sure, more complex surfaces would be nice, like caves or volcanoes, but they will inevitably become boring toi. You see a cave once, you have seen them all you lose any incentive to visit caves after the novelty wears off.

What is needed is a lot.more involvement with the science stuff. Surface samples should be just the start, but the real fun should be, again, to put some effort in bringing all the infrastructure needed for more complex experiments to work.
Mods already do that, they have all kinds of base modules (labs of all kinds, hydroponics, resource harvesters, habitation, logistics, communication and so on) that have a huge potential for a deep and challenging science system.
The problem with that is that you have to make it easy enough for most of the casuals (which will always be the majority) and hard enough for the hardcore ones to not lose interest after the first time. Balance is key here.

I think it'd be best to actually make the results themselves more interesting and cohesive and less kerbal, though still with a little kerbal
Something like "After reentering the capsule, Jebediah and Bob noticed a faint smell of spent gunpowder. Bob took a heavy whiff of his boots, and confirmed that the smell was that of Munar regolith. His resulting coughing fit also confirmed that Munar regolith is a lung irritant. Caution should be taken with future excursions to the Munar surface." and "The Mun rock samples appear to be of similar composition to Kerbin's mantle, suggesting that the Mun was formed alongside Kerbin, possibly being a fragment of it."
Certain results can support, not support, confirm, deny, or suggest entirely new theories on certain things, and more revolutionary results bring in more science, making the player think about what sort of data they want to bring in and what the goal of a specific probe is, rather than just slap parts that they can right-click on to obtain arbitrary points in order to get more parts
This would go along well with body data being limited/vague prior to the arrival of a spacecraft, so as to scout out which bodies would be prime sites for colonization/resource mining

Of course, this requires that Squad have a semi-decent writer on-hand that's willing to put some amount of thought into things, which judging by the contract system, they don't
>>
>>125835102
That sounds boring as hell
>>
>>125838294
It sounds boring because I'm talking about the Mun and assuming it's near identical to the Moon, which you already know about
Theories on, say, the Jool system's formation would probably be more interesting

>>
>>125845496
Presented like that it is. Compare orbital flight in KSP to reading a book on orbital mechanics, which is more fun? If you want to introduce realistic-ish science to other aspects of the game then do it in a way that's more fun and engaging than sitting around reading little bits of text.
>>
>>125845263
Eh, I think he is kinda right anyways... What about instead a scientist poping up, a list with 3 or 4 hypothesis, each pointing in different directions. You then are supposed to choose one, go and test for it, and if it was a shitty, low-risk hypothesis, you'll get a 1.5 multiplier on the science (if the hypothesis turns to be correct, otherwise you get a .5), but if you choose the risky/revolutionary one there are bigger multipliers.
I think the player's own reasoning should get involved in the sciencing.

>>125845496
He has a point too. Idealistically rebuilding everything from scratch is not going to be applied with Squad, ever. But a practical, realistical (and easy) way to do it could get implemented

Wow. Part of me hopes they manage to actually build and sell a few of these, just so we can see what kind of scrapheap they are. This is almost as bad as that Canadian Supercar from a couple years back.

Look at those tiny brakes, I bet they didn't even build anything yet and are just claiming numbers before actually having functional parts.

That probably took the frame of a cheap car and slapped all the bodywork on top without even bothering to hide the evidently sub-par hardware they have.
>>
>>125873220
Kinda wish we had some measurements, just to try and work out what it's sitting on top of.
>>
>>125873403
Also, look at all that empty space behind the front wheel and under the front bodywork. That means they didn't even put some plastic covers to make the underside flat, which is a feature even on cheap cars nowadays and is a must for supercars.

This car is Mexican as fuck.

Yeah. Hell, I'd argue that even some of the bodywork has some serious issues with it's shaping, but I'd need a closer look at it to really say anything like that with any real certainty. It even looks like the mounts for the lights is just really cheap plastic, with the lights themselves almost looking to be glued in place or something.

More like Squad has a contract with Curse. Would someone go tell Billy how business deals work?

It was coming for a long time. I think SirCmpwn thought Squad would legitimately ditch Curse in favour of KerbalStuff, even after the many times he went on about how he didn't give a shit about the community and was only doing it to spite Curse in the first place.

>attempting a cape landing even though they still haven't done a single barge landing
It's almost like they went to a release version after barely being in beta.
>>
>>125929038
The whole reason they were doing barge landings was to prove to the FAA that the landing would be accurate. They've done that by consistently coming down close to the barge (and getting closer every attempt), so they've been given permission to try landing at Cape Canaveral.
>>
>>125929232
They didnt come down close and got closer, they hit the barge both attempts, and damn near succeeded on the CRS-6 attempt to make it a stable landing. They very likely would have made it on the failed launch had the upper stage not exploded.
On top of that this version of the F9 is running stronger engines, so it definitely has the power to perform the return maneuver.
>>
Say I want to find the inclination/LAN of an orbit relative to another one
How would I go about doing this?
>>
>>125930992
Control the vessel on the current orbit, target the vessel on the target orbit, and look at the LAN node to get the number in degrees. Hopefully.
>>
>>125931254
That gives me the inclination, but not the LAN
What I'm trying to do is copy a system from SE to KSP, and set it so that Kerbin's inclination is 0
>>
>>125931907
Well, my other suggestion would be to get the LAN of both orbits via hyperedit or some other tool, then do the math to find the difference between the two.

Sorry if this isnt helping, I stopped playing KSP months ago and am only in this thread for the inevitable shitposting storm of the SpaceX launch and attempted landing tomorrow.

This would be the best with randomly-generated planets. Use some random thing as a heightmap generator, choose the size and material of the planet, and then figure out if it has moons based on the size. Hell, maybe throw in 'anomalies' that give you a bunch of science if you get close enough.

That way, scanning each celestial body actually has a point. I mean, even if the game won't tell you how big Eeloo is, you can always look it up, or you'll have it memorized by experience.

The SSTV signal is still present on Duna, but over two years ago, they changed the surface geometry in the area, and it's now under the surface of the planet and can't really be accessed.
>>
>>125962279
There was an easter egg where you could pick up a radio signal from the game, you could then turn it into an image or something and I remember people going crazy to find where the signal came from, what object originates it and how to turn it into a picture.

>>125962348
Oh so it only came from duna?
>>
>>125962547
Yeah. There was a particular hill you had to be on/around, and then it would randomly start playing. Now you have to clip your camera under the surface of the planet just-so.

OK fags, toady we are going to eat this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pecten_jacobaeus
They are called "capesante" here in Italy.

Unfortunately, I have already done all the preparation because I was going to eat them last night, but then I changed my mind.

Anyway, what you usually do is you take the scallops, rinse them a bit under cold water to remove sand and other shit and then you cover them with that sauce you see on the left. Put them in the oven at 200°C for 20/30mins and enjoy.

The sauce is made of grated bread, parmesan cheese, finely cut garlic, parsley, broth (vegetarian is better, but even meat broth can do) and oil.
The bread to parmesan ratio is usually a bit over 2/1. For parsley you can do with a tablespoon and for oil you can start with 3 or 4 tblspoons.

Make sure it is dense enough so it doesn't drip anywhere (especially when you put the stuff in the oven), but soft enough so you have an easy time covering the scallops without it breaking into pieces. Want it more dense? Add grated bread. want it more liquid? Add oil or broth (oil is better).

Stay tuned, I'll be showing them covered in sauce later and then I'll post the finished product.

Here they are, ready for the oven
please ignore the dirty as fuck tray

Cooking tips.

Letting them at 200°C for about half an hour will make the sauce be nice and crispy with a brown shade on the outside, but very soft and watery on the inside.

If you want something less mushy inside, lower the oven temperature a bit and keep the stuff in there longer, if you still want the tasty crust on the surface, crank the oven up for the last 5/10 mins or turn on the grill.

>>125966746
I always forget to include pepper in the ingredients because I use it everywhere and I just take it for granted. But yes, you need a little pepper in the sauce too.

As an added bonus, I'll be making fried fish.
Specifically, this fish, which is commonly called "latterino" around here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big-scale_sand_smelt

This is so easy to make that the only way to ruin it is if you actively try to do it wrong.

Step 1: get fish, rinse under cold water, leave them dripping until most of the water is gone.

Step.2: put wet fish in a container with some flour, close the container and shake the living fuck out of it, the result will be like pic related. Maximum flour coating with minimum effort.
If for some reason you are not going to immediately fry them after coating, you might want to give them an additional shake because the water on the fish will slowly turn the coating into a wet paste that is definitely not suitable for frying.

Step 3: put some oil on the heat, wait for it to be very hot, throw fishes at it and remove them when they look good.
I suggest you use peanut oil for frying, it's the next best thing after extra virgin olive oil, but olive oil can't really stand high temperatures before breaking down into unhealthy stuff. You want the oil to be very hot (a little under 200°C) so you literally have to keep the fish a few seconds in there before it's ready for maximum crispiness. Peanut oil is healthy and can stand very high temperatures.

If you are not allergic or you can't eat seafood for some other reason, I strongly invite you to try them, because they taste nothing like seafood, especially with all the sauce on top.
They have a very "fat" consistency and taste. If I were to make you eat them without telling you what it is, you wouldn't know it was seafood.
>>
>>125968329
My fiance is super allergic, so I wouldn't be able to make any when she was around, and I can't really justify making something that nice for just myself.
>>
>>125968505
Oh well, my gf also dislikes a lot of the stuff I like. I just cook whatever is good for me and she gets something else that she likes.

Don't skip on awesome food just because she can't eat it. As long as you can cook something equally nice for her, go for it.

>>
>>125969108
It's less that she dislikes it, and more that being around it can kill her.
>>
>>125969645
I don't know how food allergies work because, luckily, I don't have any. I just assumed that as long as you don't eat the stuff, you are safe.
>>
>>125969279
Fuck that looks great!
>>
>>125970293
There are airborne allergies too, and they're annoying as shit. My university has a complete ban on anything with a "may contain traces of peanuts" sticker because two students have an airborne allergy and being in the same room as someone eating, I don't know, a peanut power bar, could kill them.
It's awful, because I really like peanuts.
>>
So I was just thinking about halley's comet, when it will pass next and shit.
I remember it being a big deal when I was young, (like 7 years old or so) so I didn't really pay much attention, but I DO remember being taken out to our neighbors farm to chill with them and watch the comet.
I remember most of that day pretty vividly, and in particular I remember seeing the comet.

So I'm sitting here, wishing I had paid more attention when I was ten, So i look up on google when it will pass next, trying to work out if I can be fucked living that long to see it again...

when I find out.....

the comet last passed in 1986
I was born in 1990
The 1986 pass was not even very visible, the last truly visible pass was in 1910

what the fuck am I remembering right now?

>>

my old flatmate could smell peanuts or food with peanuts in them to a scarily accurate level.

Once, he could tell the pot I used to cook a curry in hadn't really been cleaned properly, and was previously used for pad-thai just by tasting the curry.

he reckons as soon as he smells peanuts, or any kind of nut, but particularly peanuts, he feels a tingling in his nose, or if he tastes it, on his tongue.

in the latter case he has about 30 mins to get to hospital before he stops breathing
>>

>>125973502
I don't really know what kind of other food could replace that. There are not many meats that stay soft and mushy even after all that time under the heat.
Chicken would dry in an instant and red meat would taste completely different.

I guess you could just use the sauce to cover whatever you plan on putting it in the oven, it will still taste great but you lose a big part of the meal by losing the seafood core.

You could experiment with small pieces of fish, like this one
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_seabass
Which is god-tier even when cooked alone, soft and tender all the way. This is the closest alternative I can think of right now.
Maybe you can use eel too, it's fat as fuck and stays soft even when grilled for half an hour, but it is an immense pain in the ass to clean, especially considering you have to get it alive and cut it while it still moves like crazy.
Unless, of course, your gf can't eat fish too
