Except for the part where most Spiders have no way to carry enough lasers to work. One Spider has two energy slots in the CT, that's it. All it's got going for it is the skinny shape, high jumpjet limit and ECM on one model.

I mean, why would you ever take it? It's 75 tons, same as a timberwolf, but it's not an omnimech. The Timberwolf beats it in every single category. Maybe not in point blank brawling, but then again there's the nova and the gargoyle if you want to stare at someone and melt their face clean off.

The IICs in general are going to be in a really bad place to begin with, since they're not going to have any mobility quirks. I mean, what the hell? They're specifically BETTER versions of the inner sphere ones, but they suck at the thing clans are supposed to be best at? Mobility and agility?

So the only mech in todays IIC pack that does anything for clans is the Highlander. Clans don't have a 90 ton assault to my knowledge, so that fills a weight gap in their lineup.

The rest are just more of the same shit that other mechs do already and do it better.

Clans might have an advantage in weapon saturation and better generalist builds, but IS are super strong specialists now, outclassing clans easily. Especially thanks to range quirks, IS are better snipers than clans are, at which point clan weapon saturation is a completely moot point because they won't get close enough to use those "ermahgerd 12x small lasers op!" builds before they're scalpeled out. Even if they play smart and use whatever little cover exists on CW maps to try and close the distance, there are still the specialized brawler build variants standing between the two, that will melt whatever the snipers weakened in an alpha strike or two.

The "top tier" players realize this, and have shifted to playing them en masse. CW is a shitshow because of it.

Yeah, against the sniper mechs, they do.

A clan mech does 1 damage over the large lasers 1.5 second duration at 1480 meters range. An IS sniper mech does between 2-3 over the lasers duration. Or, let's compare more accurately with examples.

An adder geared with 2x clan extended range large lasers deals 22 damage at the 740 meter range, and 2 damage at the 1480 meter range over the course of 1.5 seconds. With a mark 4 targeting computer, the clan ER large lasers would gain 5.25% more beam length, or a whopping 77 meters extra range. Only problem is, that piece of equipment is 4 tons and takes 4 slots, which, on the specifically "designed to be hampered by pod space and weight" is not feasibly fit in.

A raven -4X geared with 2x extended range large lasers deals 18 damage at the 877,5 meter range, 6,18 at the 1480 meter range and 2 damage at the 1755 meter range. On top of this, the RVN-4X has a -30% duration quirk, which reduces it's burn time from 1.25 seconds to 0,875 seconds.

Thus, not only can a RVN-4X outdamage the adder at range, it will be able to avoid nearly half of the burn damage from being dealt to it by virtue of shorter exposure time to exchange fire.

This makes lights extremely viable since their fast speed makes them near impossible to damage if they use cover and it's extremely safe to harass others that are busy brawling. Mediocre. Most of the IIC's are a confusing mess to build, with massive amounts of free tonnage, but little to do with it. Their builds end up some odd mash up of whatever you could find to fill the hard points and use up all your leftover tonnage.
Then you finally get into battle and find out the thing is a glass cannon. Giant paper tigers that actually have very limited armor, what feels like no structure, and a lot of explosives packed neatly behind it. Stray fire causes your torsos to evaporate, and in the hunchback you pretty much have to accept that you're going to lose one or both side torsos very early on. When the enemy ignores you, you can do OK. If they focus you, you're gone almost instantly.

UAC10 w/ 3 1/2 tons ammo, 3x ERlarges and 3xSRM6+A w/ 3 tons ammo. 19 heatsinks, max XL engine so that it doesn't get immediately left behind.

Still, underwhelming. The jump jets are a thing I didn't expect to suck so bad. 3 jump jet class 1's and all you get is 19 meters of jump height. I'd rather take 2 to clear most ground obstacles.

the problem is that the mods use the word "toxic" in seriousness. This itself presents a problem because toxic can mean different things to different people, and implies a democratic system of punishiment.

I have a specific variant that I like. I need to buy two other variants of the same chassis. I need to get all the basic efficiencies of all three. I can then sell the two 'Mechs that I don't want. The elite efficiencies for the 'Mech I do want will be unlocked. Once I acquire all of those, the master efficiency will be unlocked.

Which is why they gave him only a 48 hour ban. They want to show that they mean business while still keeping him around so he can spend more money. It's just a show of force to try and keep him in line. One person banned, even in a community this small, is not going to break the camels' back. In fact, banning him will contribute to weeding out the folks that poison the community, giving newer players a friendlier player base and community experience making it more likely they'll stick around to spend some money.
