Any specific ideas for such a concept? I actually had an idea for a DR1 prequel that takes place in Hopes Peak between the fallout of the Worst Event in Mankind's History and the Killing School Life. The students have to ward off demons and rogue Monokuma units controlled by the Virus while keeping the school, which was converted into a fortress by Class 78, up and running.

Me personally I think I'd want SMT gameplay in the Dangonronpa universe. Art style is dangonronpa, universe is despair Japan but then throw some demons in there. Say that Humans who die consumed by despair manifest demons, the demons of course being classic SMT variety, and those demons are on a rampage throughout the world.

Group of teenagers or young adults can manifest hope strong enough to bind the demons to them (or can purchase their loyalty with monocoins at auction) and set out to either eradicate despair with the power of hope (law), become despair itself and rule the world (chaos), or carve your own future (neutral).

Forgot to add: Ultimates or SHSLs are the ones who carry hope within them and are therefore the only ones who can control demons. There would be the ultimates you can get as party members, ally or neutral ultimates you would come across in the game, then the ultimates who are out causing despair and may or may not therefore be enemies. Your character would be without an ultimate ability, but the ending would make you either Ultimate Hope, Ultimate Despair or Ultimate Future.

Call the whole thing a killing game, provide a mastermind behind it all (which inevitably is Junko in some form or a character/creature based off Junko) and you got yourself a better game than that fire emblem faggotry they came up with instead.

And Ishimaru has had far more fan recognition that all of them, though so I don't know what you're getting at with the otakubucks when has has surpassed all of them, possibly even combined. He's third place when it comes to the first game's cast, and appeared in the top 4 overall fictional gay husbando poll, not just once but twice. Has Sayaka ever done that in not just a series wide poll, but an anime medium wide poll as well? I think not.

The series did themselves a huge disservice by letting him go in the first game.

I agree with you to an extent. Hagakure is a disappointing waste, and Asahina has done absolutely nothing. This might change in the new animu, but I'm not that hopeful the survivors will be handled well, nevermind the deceased characters of dr1, whether they're really alive or not. Nevermind the dr2 cast, aside from Komaeda and maybe Hajime.

I'm just saying. Why bring up fan reception who will buy their favorite character's merch when Ishimaru clearly also had a lot of merchandise as well. Go count up the anime posters for example and check how often he's featured.

This series is pretty much a double edged sword. You can clearly see that the characters are what people care a lot about the series as pointed out with the anime trailer having more views than the new game. I'm not really sure what to make of the new anime. I don't really care much for the survivors aside from Aoi maybe and she doesn't have good chemistry with the remaining cast.

I can see why Kodaka wanted to start fresh with the new game because when you break it down, DR's series wide plot leaves a lot to be desired. Not just because of Junko, who really tarnishes a lot with what you can do with the overall world outside, but when we haven't even delved into what the SHSL despair old lives have done for fear of what the fans may think of them afterward. It's just a bunch of stuff that feels like you can only go in cop outs that don't feel satisfying because I doubt that the DR2 cast will be getting much screen time.

I don't even know what you can really do with the surviving DR1 cast, for example. There is hardly any direction for them other than trying to rebuild the world i guess; it's a lot of stuff which you can infer and quite frankly that doesn't really sound interesting to me to really want to build a story on it. Or at least what has been shown hasn't interested me enough to want to watch it.

I'm honestly glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. The only DR1 survivor I hate is Byakuya, but as for the rest, it isn't that I don't like them, it's that they've done their part pretty much. They're gonna try and bring hope into the despair filled world and that's it, not much to it. What sucks the most is that these survivors got way more shit than any other characters combined. Yeah, Ishimaru has a lot of merchandise, but does he have a novel like Kyouko, Byakuya, and Yasuhiro do? Did he star in a game like Touko did? Did he even get a canon side story like Makoto did? He, along with a lot of the other DR1 kids that didn't survive just don't get jack shit in terms of closure. It's why AE is really dissatisfying to play, you find out all these people were related to them, but you'll never get the closure you want because a good chunk of them didn't show up. It's some shit, but liking any DR1 kid that isn't a survivor is tough, at least DR2 fans can hold onto the dim hope that they might wake up one day.

That means no Aoi. No Yasuhiro. No Toko. NO Byakuya. NO Kyoko and NO Makoto.

She then decides to let the 9 remaining continue on with this awkward killing game. How would the 9 cope? Do you think they'd find the secrets to the school? Would they be competent enough to hang in trial without the Point Getters?

Nagito is probably my favorite character in all the games because he's the worst possible participant you could have in the killing game. He doesn't care if he's killed or kills. He's intelligent but you don't know if he's trying to help the killer or not. Plus he's batshit insane and is constantly trying to stack things in favor of the mastermind just to see if your HOPE can overcome it. If Nagito existed in real life he'd be a weirdo suicide bomber, but he really shines in the context of DR.

I still think there's a bunch of shit he needs to resolve, such as the Monaka plotline that will probably come into play in DR3. That was Komaeda in despair's doing, if DR3 lets him keep the memories from the Program, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna like what he did.

I honestly doubt Sakura was going to kill someone desu. Even as the mole. Seeing how she quickly bonded with Aoi and seeing how Aoi and the others died right in front of her would make her drop out on the deal.

Reason why I said Celestia is because she's the only one who whole heartedly without any remorse or hesitation pre mediated a murder. Sayaka tried planning out a murder but she clearly had doubts on it. Her consciousness atleast. Though again, this involved Makoto.

that's the point, isn't it? She was prepped to be the first murderer, and that was before she developed a relationship with anybody. Sayaka might be delayed from attempting a killing because without Makoto she can't follow through with the same plan she had in canon. I could see Sakura doing the first murder in that situation, but I'm not 100% sure she's capable of it.

But Leon and Mondo shouldn't even really count since they weren't planning murders. Celestia however was and so was Sayaka even though she had second thoughts. That's my point. If Junko gave them some huge incentive to kill or some personal way out, Celestia might be the first to jump to those words but hide it with her cool facade.

But even before the first murder, she quickly bonded with Aoi. To the point where they were comfortable spending the day together in the cafeteria drinking tea and spending the night together in Aoi's room. Now if Junko had wanted her to act on a murder the same time Sayaka acted on hers and got killed in the canon, can you really say she would have done so even at this point, she's like BFF with Aoi? I just can't see it personally.

it doesn't matter if you plan murders. Murder is just the killing of a human being with malice aforethought. Imagine how the criminal justice system would break down if all killers just said their "rage broke them" like Mondo or something.

this is why I think you're underestimating how drastic murder is. Just because they're in a bad situation doesn't make murder morally justifiable.
