So why did upgrading weapons in MHX get completely changed compared to previous games? I'm not really complaining, but it feels pretty odd compared to the previous iterations.

SnS is beyond OP now due to SPIN2WIN granting complete invulnerability, and the coatings are insane. Bow is an absolute monster too, especially with that new hunter art that allows it to easily chop tails off AND deal fucktons of damage at the same time.

CB is nerfed, and IG got toned down. I haven't really messed with IG enough to give an informed opinion though.

I always had this idea for a weapon that boiled down to a flail weapon that could detach its ball mid combo as a one time ranged attack. Until you go and hit the ball to pick it up you'd have a quicker but weaker chain whip. Other hunters could smack the ball with their weapons to send it rebounding around the map to hit the monster too.

Gave up on MHX and started a new game of MH4U. Jesus christ, this is a good game. I always said MHFU, MH3U and MH4U were equal but now I'm starting to think MH4U is the best out of all.

On my first playthrough I made the mistake of minmaxing too hard, grinding too much equipment and using the best weapons, but now I'm more relaxed and oh my god is it amazing.

The majority of capture quests are people who want a live creature, so when you capture a monster the guild provides you with parts from other hunter's kills that they couldn't carve off in time. It explains the tails.

Main village is a big city, Arena would play a bigger role (urgents, contests, story events)

Calendar with fixed events (2 quests = 1 day) like contests, tournaments and (breeding)seasons

"Exotic armour", ask the smith to craft an armour with the design of an exotic village(old design for nostalgia)

Quest rework, Urgents are solo only challenges, like arena quests,sometimes story relevant hunts, they are unlocked after a bunch of any quests.

General QOL changes, mainly around the item box, sets, decorations and inventory but also fluidity changes around Guard and crafting.

Element rework : 100% damage on neutral resistance, less on resist, 0 on immune, more on weak, Element splashes work like blood: the bigger the stronger, if immune the element won't be shown.

Ressources are research points : You can purchase items, decors, monster info books, monster damage charts, weapon motion values, armour customization options (more than one colour to change)

Zenny has a lot more use and is a lot harder to max, arena contests are the best way to earn it, it can buy houses, decor, special purchase-only gear, your own cook (Would work like FU's kitchen while the public cook would work like 3rd gen Kitchen)

Switch Axe complete rework, axe mode more fluid, based around SWITCHING often, leaves "phials" like CB

Bowguns have Element and status like Bows.

It was by far the best weapon in 1st gen. Since then it's been average at worst. I think you're still looking at it from a kill time perspective. Kill times for SnS are indeed subpar, but it excels greatly in other areas. For instance, using items. I've saved so many shitters from inevitable death by being able to pop lifepowder or dust of life instantly. SnS is probably right up there with Hunting Horn as an amazing support orientated weapon.

SnS is the safest melee weapon by far. It has short attack animations and the ability to shield. Do the rest of the maths there. Combine this with a status effect, and you can be really reckless when it comes to applying status

SnS is also the best mount weapon in 4U with the exception of ridgeless areas, where the IG is obviously better.

The only thing the SnS is really bad at is cutting tails and hunting Gravios + Basarios, that's basically it.

What role can an SnS play in a four-man party? Being a specific jack of all trades role is useless because any shortcomings for a single player can and will be made up in a party. Want a balanced "jack of all trades" party? Mix it up by having a user good at dealing damage (GS etc.), a user good at stat-application, a HH for support, and long reach weapon if you want to farm tails.

The fact that your SnS is the jack-of-all trades at the micro level (or so you say, I think it's just shit) means that it is shit in the macro level where much of the hunts will be in parties. In solo play, where damage out put is key, it'll lose out because of it's piss poor damage.

Your Gen 2-4 SnS is shit, deal with it. There is nothing a SnS can do that other weapons can do better in a group.

Suggestions on how to fix jumping/aerial in future MH games.

>A) Jumping consumes set amount of stamina based on weapon type (The heavier the weapon, the more stamina depleted).

This only counts once you jump off something (The monster, LBB, hunter, etc.)

This just makes it so stuff like aerial GS/SA isn't so brain-dead.

Dash-juice/stamina song is still there though.

Some monsters have specific parts (Raths heads, Gamuto's tusks, Hermi/Ceanataurs shells.)

Some monsters have most of their body to jump off except for some parts, and some parts may even inflict damage when jumping into them. (Zamtrios with ice on,Enraged Narga tail, Raizex charged body parts etc)

Smaller monsters like the ones that use the Rajang/Arzuros skeletons are free to jump all over.

This is not true at all. Lance and CB are both safer. SnS is the simplest melee weapon, in that it doesn't have a gimmick beyond item use while unsheathed (and in 4u a charge attack you shouldn't use anyway), just a moveset (and a relatively rigid one at that). That's why it's usually recommended for beginners, even though it's very suboptimal as a beginner weapon imo.

It can cut tails fine when monsters spend half the hunt on their side because you mostly attack the legs. Gravios is a problem when you have low sharpness but you can easily reach basarios' belly which is softer.
