We think of ToS as a game that would appeal to players who don't like just hitting the cap and running around farming items from instance dungeons (i.e. less focus on end-game?).
ToS is a game that focuses on the R in RPG.
Because RPG standards for Role Playing Game, having everyone participate solely in combat is not correct.
ToS is not meant to replace other MMORPGs currently in existence, but because nobody was making such a game we decided to do it (i.e. they think that their game is unique enough).
Players find their own roles.
When you enter town you see Squires sharpening knives, Alchemists making potions... if we see that happening, we can say that our intended role-playing has successfully taken foot.
When releasing bosses in the test server to test boss mechanics, we saw players setting up base camps behind the battle supporting the fighters for free. This is how we envisioned our MMORPG to be.
We did not design classes based on pre-determined unconditional roles.
Because there are so many skills you can try combining this and that for some unexpected spectacles.
Combining certain skills with other factors, like a puzzle, may give rise to interesting things and phenomena (i.e. skill interactions).
We anticipate the things that players will make while searching for their own roles.
ToS is a game that will clearly be liked or disliked by any given player. Our objective is to reduce the amount of pushback from players.

It's not a LOT, but it sure is still more than it's worth.

Over the course of a year that's $120, you could get more elsewhere out of it, it wouldn't stay relevant because no pay2win games do longterm unless they are really on point and ToS so far, is not. No pure pay gate games do, period. Especially economy gates.
I think the MMO industry learned that back in 2005.

This year more than ever people are understanding the idea that gated games are no fun for their friends that don't want to/can't play, which leaves them not playing with them and thus bored. Look at Devilian, almost dead within 2 days of release because it's pay gate is so stupid fucking obvious.

It's one thing if you slowly introduce the pay gate and you hide it behind a lot of shit to make it subtle (Look at MapleStory) so that you can technically do everything but it's subtle annoyances that appear to be glitches or things not noticed that force you into paying.

That's fine if you have a good job, but a decent entry level is something like $16/hr~ $18/hr.

Assuming you actually have bills and don' live with your parents, depending on where you live (for example I live in Miami so the cost of living is h i g h), it's an unnecessary payment that's a bit high.

If they aimed for something like $2~5/hr it would be doable for almost everyone that plays and almost no one would have a problem with it.

Really the problem is that their quality isn't up to par to a $10/hr game, at all.

Then again WoW and Eve are somehow still $15/mo.

Do keep in mind that almost any job paying well like that is full time, that's 40hr/wk. If you remove sleeping, fulltime job, transit you have 76 hours left in a week. You won't play all 76, also microtransaction prices, since we're just talking sub price.

Against my argument though $15/mo is about 20hrs per dollar if you did play ALL of that remaining time.

Start the game is from the Game Start button on the Nexon ToS site, which is unavailable. I've seen people open the client already though, so there's other ways but I don't know how to do it.
