No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state.
The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective.
There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

Bugs and instability are still real and frequent problems, as with every product still in beta. Ask in thread for details.

Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version. The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better.
An external team with heavily questionable experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U. They seem to be rushing for an imminent deadline and they are also working on a version of the game that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months.

KSP is very enjoyable at first, then it usually needs to be modded to retain some sort of longevity, but doing so may dramatically increase the instability of the game. You will be very familiar with the word "Oops!".
The Developers, Squad, have shown many times that they can't handle the project and are trying to squeeze all the money they can with the least amount of effort and with controversial PR tactics.
The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you shouldn't purchase the game, not because the game itself is unplayable, but because most of us agree that Squad does not deserve your money.

Not that guy, but by playing career you will soon realise that is not really a pleasant experience: contracts ask you to do retarded things, the money and science gain is anything but balanced, the beginning is basically a long grind and the difficulty only changes money and science gain, without really adding or modifying any of the game mechanics
If you like progression, I suggest you download one of the popular career mods (like KSPI, SETI or BTSM) so you can play something more fun, balanced and thought out.

Well my hypothesis is somehow KSP (or any sandbox) players manage to pre-render objectives in their heads before they actually launch the game. The hype is expanding here during that phase. Once the game is started, other constraints can interfere with what they had previously considered. Some parts of the game may be boringbrokenas fuck to achieve that one thing.
Let me get this straight, we're talking about motivation here. When you say you launch your rocket and lose your will to play, you say the task that KSP offers don't meet your expectations. Some game designers would say you stand outside the so-called "flow channel" (pic related and google "Game Design Theory Applied: The Flow Channel" for those interested). This theoretical model says that the best gaming experience a player (A) can have is to be constantly challenged by the system to the full extent of his abilities. The game has to keep the player into that direction (from state A1 to state A4) to avoid anxiety (game is too strong for me) or boredom (game is to weak for me). I'm wondering how it applies to KSP, and sandbox games in general. Hardly I'd say, hence my first question (>>125551349).

The formation remained stable tho, they just collectively went a tiny bit slower than kerbin.
And I'm still waiting for the mun sats to fall into the mun's SOI, since their period was even more of a bitch to set, it constantly wobbles 5+ seconds in both directions because the game can't contemplate nearly circular orbits.
So, sooner or later, they will be captured by the mun and require a new launch because I didn't put engines on the satellites, only a very modest amount of monoprop to make light orbital corrections.
Eh..couldn't really expect anything better for a first time network.

I think sandbox games lack a bit in the challenge aspect, because you already have everything at your disposal and the only real challenges are the ones you impose on yourself.
I probably lack the needed imagination when it comes to sandbox games, because I find myself asking pretty often "now what?", because I don't like roleplaying missions for the sake of having an objective. I probably fall in the boredom section of that graph, even if I'm not able to do everything the game can offer, I still don't feel like creating my own winning conditions and I get bored.
I like to be given an objective, to strive for better gear/missions/possibilities/whatever, to have something to do because if you don't do that, the game doesn't go on, it dies.
That's probably what bores me of KSP, that even though you have a career and you can mod it to hell and back, you are still pretty much free to do whatever you want, ignore most of the contracts and still unlock the full tech three. Nobody forces you to do anything, career is basically a limited sandbox with optional side objectives (contracts).
My personal aversion to sandbox games would like to see more missions like " launch this satellite here because, if you don't do that, you won't be able to launch anything unmanned forever" or "put this station here because you will never leave kerbin's SOI if you don't" or "put these sats there, otherwise you will not even be able to see other planets and know how to get there". Even with those hard limits, the game will still become sandbox at the end, which is fine, but at least it would not be a disguised sandbox for the whole career.

I can't really blame the game tho.
It started as a sandbox and a huge portion of the fanbase is well into sandbox games, so I can see how a sanboxish career could find its place between the players.
Even accepting the sandbox nature of career, I feel like it still lacks some endgame content, something so outrageously expensive that you need like 5 tech trees worth of science to unlock that single node. Something a-la alcubierre drive from KSPI: expensive, big, heavy, a bitch to make work, a bitch to refuel, a bitch to plan burns with it because of conservation of momentum, but it makes you go faster than light. Something so powerful on paper, but has so many drawbacks that you have to think hard before using it.
In short: some advanced tech with almost more cons than pros.
Everybody loves endgame content, and this game lacks any.

I just got the mod, I was testing with random parts and I read the warnings about parts that cannot be welded.
I tried welding a capsule with an SAS and a parachute, then I tried just with two girders and the same thing happens: I select the parts, click weld, the save window pops up, click save, part disappears and the "New part saved and shipped!" message pops up. Once I click OK on the message, the part disappears and I can't find it anymore anywhere.

I'm surprised how easy this lifting body escape craft was to make work.
can land it in two ways also, either descend steeply then late flare, or the super lazy version, which is put the airbrakes in brake mode and do almost nothing and guarantee no damage. I prefer doing it the hard way though or it feels like cheesing it.

The main problem right now is that it causes krakens all over the place because of a bug in the buoyancy system, I've talked to NathanKell about this and he said he'll try to get it fixed for next update.
Another problem is that parts seem to get destroyed when they touch the water at 3m/s (say a big wave passes by) when they can perfectly take a 10m/s hit on land.

Actually I am going to physics-post a bit. Many people say that physics fails at a singularity, but doesnt really explain why. This means that the math makes no sense. A singularity is a singular point, or in mathematical terms it is a point in space with a volume of zero. If we use the equation from newton's law of universal gravitation, we end up with mass/0 for anything that reaches the singularity. Infinite curvature because light cannot escape, infinite density because the volume is 0 (density = M/vol), and infinite temperature again because of how dense the object is. When you go into quantum mechanics, you reach infinite pressure that overcomes all quantum forces that forces everything into a single point. Quantum mechanics is a poor medium to describe the effects of gravity anyway because gravity doesn't really exist in the quantum world.
We need a completely new theory of gravity and quantum mechanics to make sense out of black holes. Perhaps the holy grail of physics: a theory that unifies the quantum world with the classical world. Who ever figures that out will be touted as the new Einstein. Actually they may be considered better than Einstein since he spent his entire life trying to figure this out and he turned up with nothing.

Look into the career and part mods, there are a bunch of contract packs and station/base part packs that make you develop bases over time, with multiple launches and multiple contracts.
I don't know about automated missions, I don't even know if something like that is even possible. I guess your best bet is writing a KOS autopilot script or having MJ take care of all the manouvers, but you still need to be focused on the craft while it does its stuff and you can't do other things in the meanwhile.

Guys I have a problem.
I have a few parts mod which add command pods, but when I fly them the crew icons don't show up in the lower right corner as they should.
This means the people in the pod can't perform EVAs, I can't switch to IVA view to manually go out and the game doesn't acknowledge the presence of a pilot inside, so I don't get all the perks pilots have. Basically it acts like a probe core or an empty pod.
The only workaround is to transfer the crew to a free seat in a stock pod, which forces me to bring extra parts that I wouldn't normally need.
So, is there a way to solve this via the .cfg files or am I just fucked?

Check in the KSC view, rifht-click on every building, hover the upgrade button to see what it does and choose the ones that let you see patched conics and mission planning or something like that.
