Spinfusor is a good weapon for all classes. The default loadouts for lights/mediums are solid and cover most situations.
Heavies generally run Spinfusor - Chain/X1 - Mortar - Whatever

Generally an impact weapon (spinfusor) + an automatic weapon will be enough for most duels.

Honestly, you should probably focus on packs and weapons for whatever "specialized" play styles you're into.

The old system was quick match and quick match by game type. If you clicked CTF, you'd be paired with the closest server with an open slot. Aside from sorting newbies (<lvl10) from the shark tank, rank has been entirely cosmetic and only indicative of how much time you've played.

I think all the packs for heavy are good. Depends on your preference.

Personally I've used the one with +energy recharge +ammo the most. I tend to stay a bit to the side and shell stand/deployables, or ski around and bombard on the move.

The energy recharge is really great for this, it's like the heavy finally lost its chains to the ground, and the extra ammo is nice too, you never run out.

If I had a more in-your-face style I might prefer the potential energy pack instead though. And of course shield pack if you're genhumping or playing defense.

They exist, but they're pretty rare. Dunno if they have been patched up to work with the latest patch. Also, most players who were obviously botting were using the hitscan weapons, and not really trying to hide the fact that they did so (energy hacking, impulse trolling, etc). Very few cases in the community where a botter has been "hiding" or trying to pass it off as legit "skill".

Plenty of good players who have played this game for 4 years and counting though.

Which is to say, if you move like a retard, they will wreck you in seconds in combat. So try not to wonder WTF happened if you are floating in the air like a balloon and wonder why someone hit 100% of chain on you. It's not difficult if you go out of your way to make it easy.

And upgrades were a dumb idea, because there was no way to "de-upgrade", or to scale the damage of weapons to counter the upgrades. Level 4 assets with auto-repairbot nades and repair times of 0.2 seconds were such fucking bullshit.

Big base turrets are still good as SUPPORT for the defense, but they don't do the job for you anymore. And sensor alone is worth keeping the gen up for, unless you have a massive stream of fatties to the gen room (in which case you should just abandon it and let them party, and go do something useful, like defend the flag or help the HoF combat clearers).

Gen being a soft target is good, IMO. It should be quick to go down, but also quick to repair back up.

The turret limit is probably an extension of the nade limit. I'd gather the idea is to reduce spam in the game a bit, now that everyone has more weapons and thus the general level of spam is increased either way. You get some, you lose some.

TBQH I'd be really like if they'd take a page from Tribes 2 and just change the turret limits to a team-wide one from an individual one.

That way if there's only 1 engineer guy on a team he could still pop up, say, ~4 turrets. And if there's 3, there's still only room for 4 turrets.

You'd avoid the situation where there's 6 techs on one team and a whole base covered in turrets and motion mines and shit with any stuff taken out replaced in 0.2 seconds stat. But of course, with individual limits you don't run into the issue of "MUH TURRETS", where somebody who later in the game switched to tech can't get any deployed because the team-limit has already been filled up by other players.

It's like you don't have an argument or did anything else than repaired. Defense stacking was always the problem in TA. It was too easy to do, too rewarding and served as a safe role for anyone who couldn't play properly or never bothered learning. It made the games boring stationary turtle fests were flag play was mostly ignored. I'm referring to the people who sat on the D repairing and deploying shit all game doing very little to help their team and couldn't do anything for themselves in other roles. This happened in majority of pubs ever since the release. As someone who played O 90% the time it was just insanely frustrating to fight against a team full of stacking defenders with their gadgets doing all the work. It didn't help that your team was doing the same thing too. You were alone on O trying to clear and disrupt or cap only to realize the enemy stand is cluttered with the same crap a few seconds later - crap which is very effective against a capper and takes exactly zero effort or skill to use.

Yeah mind explaining how it isn't useful? Allows you to get moving and starting routes quickly, allows you to change direction and juke the hof for example. And being capper or any other role in the game just means that is your main job. Sometimes you'll end up going to the enemy side to take part in a standoff and try to retrieve your flag etc. In there the thrust pack is your best tool. Oh and avoiding plates/getting shot, grabbing flags midair or doing a quick e-grab the thrust pack is almost essential. I don't know why I'm spoonfeeding you with this simple info as it's something you would've learned pretty well while just playing the game.
