Just started playing the first game. Steam says I've logged 2.5hrs in it. I'm still in the prologue (witcher stronghold place) and now have just been tasked to find some potions ingredients. Nothing has really happened so far. I always heard this game had an amazing story and characters and having your choices affect everything, etc. How long until I get to that sort of thing? It's a pretty awkwardly placed tutorial to be fair. Kaer Morhen and White Orchard in TW3 do a much better job of it. But that's to be expected. You learn a lot about game design after a decade or so.

Also Geralt never really comes close to changing the world. The choices and consequences tend to be smaller scale than that.

I nearly completely gave up on Witcher 3 today, the combat system pisses me off to no end, long-ass start-up animations before Geralt is in his attack frame, the roll will go anywhere besides where I want it to, enemies are damage sponges without rhyme nor reason, even the freaking naked dudes and goddamnit battle brings close to no damn XP.

So, is there an in-depth analysis of the combat mechanics, where exactly i-frames are -if any, feels like there are- for dodges and rolls, what distance do I need to be in for Geralt to simply put his damn sword forward and not think himself as a fucking ballerina of death and metal?

In white orchard, I did a quest called devil by the well or something and it wasn't hard killing the wraith there, but for another quest where you find some viper silver sword you're supposed to kill another wraith, yet I can't seem to kill it. I bring it down to 1hp fairly easy but at that point he just stops taking damage, am I missing an item or a factor here? Idk exactly how they help but I put out those purple trap things when I hit him too, bestiary suggested that.

For Noonwraiths and Nightwraiths and Plague Maidens, Penitents as well, you need Yrden trap to force them into physical form so you can hurt them. Then it's basically just fast attack stunlocking.

Moon dust bomb can replace Yrden once you have it. Has the same effect but doesn't limit it to small area.
