Some people prefer being able to roll out of any move, even their charged R2. 17 is enough for a Boom Hammer to be able to charged R2 and roll out for instance (though not enough for a tricked charged R2 even at 20 END, but if you're going above that then that's way too much)

I'm using the Bowblade, but I intend to use both modes of it equally, so I'd need mostly phys+ gems, which come mostly in radial and triangle.

If you're looking for more BLT damage or scaling, then you'd probably want whichever version allows for circle gems.

The hit detection in pvp is stupid. Makes me want to not even pvp at all.

It's not even just me. I've been "hit" in pvp so many times and I just don't take damage. I guess it might be iframes but why would the player get staggered/affected from the hit, display signs of being hit, but still take no damage?

Seriously, it's how I beat her on a sub 20 character. She's not that bad. Only thing you have to watch for with my strategy is she has one move that will block you from getting to her side and wreck you. Be aware of that move and you're golden.
