Here is how you kill a blob effortlessly.

There's nothing the blob can do about it, he can't kill the emitters because they are far away and he can't go through the portal. He just dies. You move away and make new portal if he comes near.

This is a good tactic in general, an 'orbital cannon' you can call down against your enemies. Fun to do as traitor when you get your enemies into maintenance. Or as captain fighting nuke team. If engineers set up strong emitter beam for feeding supermatter place telebeacon in it for this purpose.

Also, grab the solid plasma from the research outpost and some of the gold from the vault for plasma cutters if you can't find any on the roid. Your AEGs will still need time to self-charge, and while they're dry you'll need a better backup weapon than a welding tool.

And unlike welding tools, plasma cutters don't require refuelling, cut through walls and reinforced walls quickly, and won't ignite plasma in the air if that becomes an issue.

Alt titles and the mechanic position do nothing to change a key fact of RND: its boring, repetitive, and little more than checking off boxes on a list. If you want people to do research, you must make it fun in and of itself in the same way that (for example) Toxins is fun, and also make its products more useful to the scientists themselves.

So. How do we make RnD fun? We could try scrapping the DA and require actual experimentation with different items to research them. It's research after all, so there ought to be some way to tinker with different items to make new ones.

I think most people would agree that some systems like genetics and virology are extremely reliant on Rng and turn into a waiting game more than anything. While other systems like RnD are completely outside of any kind of randomness and just turn boring as a result of always being the same thing.

like others have said, it's easier to compare rd to cryogenics than it is to an actual job. it's something that has to be done for the station to run efficiently, it's very tedious, and can be done essentially the same way every time. i'd actually consider getting rid of it completely if a revision people can agree on is impossible.
