You would think it has good burst but even with all it has a hard time getting kills. However it is indeed excellent at tomeliths, second only to MCH. Living Dead + being a tank + Unleash lets you control a tomelith single-handedly for half a minute with no support, even against an entire alliance. This is a rather unsung act though, since it won't get you kills and it just looks like you got killed a lot on the leaderboard and people don't understand the importance of flags.

They're not completely dead but they're not overpopulated or especially active.
You can get all the same stuff from Void Ark's Mhachi Farthings that you can get from hunts, so most people have been content to just upgrade one item a week (and since we're five weeks into 3.1, people who only play a single class have generally upgraded almost all their shit already).
Diadem took a lot of the wind out of Hunts' sails for the first couple weeks, as it was basically a slightly more fun version of Hunts without all the waiting and rushing around trying to beat the pull, on top of being able to give out better gear than you could get by upgrading Esoterics in the first place.
People are still doing hunts, at least on populated servers, but activity is pretty diminished outside of peak hours and people might not bother with the level 50 A-Ranks very much.

Shadowskin will be up for the Shield Oath Holy Bladedance and every Heavenly Heel except for the one that happens after the Gaze + Tethers + Comets + Ice + Ascalon's Mercy, where you can use either Shadow Wall or Living Dead.

Keep Grit on for one combo to generate an enmity lead, and then drop it until the cleave-Heel-cleave at the end (if your combos work out so that you take the first cleave without Grit, that's fine as long as you have Shadowskin running, but you definitely want it up for Heel).
Generally, unless your healers are badasses and you know you can count on them, you want to have Grit up for all of the Heels, and most of the cleaves (aside from the ones in the first phase and the first one in the last phase). You can go without it if you're really comfortable, but it's generally more trouble than it's worth.
