I hope you'll be able to give me a hint, /dfg/, I've already searched the hell out of the wiki and tried the bay 12 forums but its a clusterfuck there as usual.

I've got scholars and i've got a scribe. The Scribe copies books whenever I want him to, without any problems. One of my scholars even has the title "chemist", implying she knows something special. The scholars have been pondering different shit for 3+ years and haven't written a damn thing. I've got quires stuffed in chests all over the library.

What might I be doing wrong? I should note that this world was genned in 42.01, but I didnt start playing it until 42.02.

How do dwarves move on the Z axis?
Is a dwarf that moves 100 tiles on the Z axis faster than one who moves the same amount on the X axis?
