I want to use TP as kind of a bad thing in which you need to use special skills to keep it down, but I'm shit at getting this mechanic to work.

Is there a way to make it so that you gain less TP from getting hit? I'd rather the bulk of it come from your own attacks rather than enemies beating on you.

Are you using any custom battle systems scripts? I might be able to help you with your tp problems. What version of RPG maker are you running?

My battle system for The Long Road is a CTB system focused on using the proper abilities to counter telegraphed enemy attacks. Combat is only a small part of the experience, however, because you can gain exp from interacting with objects in the environment (exploring) as well. There is also no levels, and abilities and stat upgrades can be purchased with this battle/exploration point system.

Giving you feedback as I watch:

The movement seems a bit jarring, is there anything you can do to help transition between tile movements? Perhaps make it so you "slide" between tiles?

I still don't like the "you feel there is a shortcut" it makes no sense unless the character is psychic.

The graphics are amazing, your spritework is pretty good! That said, i'd be nice to have some kind of gameplay elements that break up the dungeon crawling. This is exacerbated by the fact that the tiles all look very very similar with not much difference between areas, so its easy to get kind of bored at looking at the screen.

Keep at it though, this looks better and better every time you show it.

For the first one... I believe it's possible, but I want to have this thing squared away by the 24th, and trying to get smoother movement in would cut into my time substantially. I'll look into it after this is done.

I changed the wording around a little bit, to make it more obvious that there's something there [pic related]. The passages are ripped from Etrian Odyssey, which never really explained how [for instance] the presence of blue flowers indicated that there was a passage.

There's going to be battles and the like, don't worry. I just want to get all the important maze stuff squared away before doing that stuff.
I also need to draw the alternate walls/floors, but those come after I get all 4 main wall/floor sets dealt with.

I want to have this done, with all the floors, enemies, and event stuff squared away, by the 23rd. I have two more basic wall/floor sets to do (for the first and fourth areas), neither of which should be as annoying to do as the forest one, and then some slightly more optional wall variants if I feel I have the time available.

No, I believe that MV uses 48x48 sprites and ace uses a different resolution. You'd have to downscale them or edit your tile size in ace.

So I really want to emphasize the wildlife of my game and have been working on a lot of animated animal sprites just to scatter around the maps having them pop up as a surprise to the player. They have no purpose to gameplay and are just something fun to look at while they travel.

Is there such a thing as too many events on one map? From what I've decided on so far, I'll have about 50ish parallel process animal events on my first map and still need to add probably 20 to 30 gameplay-related events afterwards. I could potentially reach 100 events.

Working with VX Ace, btw. Also, here's a pic of all the animals I've made so far (butterfly, fish, squirrel). Working on a bird next.

Probably making it relate to the theme of your game a bit more, which might require you to use something a bit more graphical.


Using more terms unique to your game could add flavor as well. So maybe Quit could be something like RIP or something like that.

So I'm trying to make a Status Effect (Burning) that damages over time, let's say I want to cause 10 dmg per turn for 5 turns, but if you cause another Burning Effect it will cause 20 dmg per turn.

In other words a cumulative DoT Status Effect.

Any ideas ?

My thought, and it's probably the worst idea, is to have multiple status ailments related to one another (example, Burn 1, Burn 2, etc.) and set a condition that says if target is inflicted by Burn 1, remove Burn 1 and add Burn 2.

Probably the worst idea because you can't just go on infinitely with it, but it could be a last resort.

Is it a good idea to have a coloured character outline or should it just remain black?

Colored outlines make the characters look overall softer. It is a porn game, so soft could be a good feeling for the art.

However, that also puts some restrictions in the backgrounds you can use, since you will have restrictions on the colors that can contrast well with the character..

Technically, I'm making a type of game like MaidenSnow Eve, for instace, where you have an active portrait of the character all the time. So I can easily put a specific background underneath the portrait.

You're very welcome, it is a great character but i think maybe keeping it so the hair snakes are alive (and can maybe talk) is enough. the tongue snake is over designed more than the eye patch the more I look at it.
