Don't be afraid to actively rotate your defensive cooldowns. They sit on around 90-120s cooldowns, with Holmgang being the longest at 180s and has some niche yet interesting uses.

Establish aggro, get Maim up, and keep yourself alive with Bloodbath self-healing. Mitigate big hits by pairing up a defensive cooldown with Inner Beast in harder content. Just be aware of the situation and how you use your buffs, and you'll improve as you work towards becoming a better player.

Well at the very least I'm confident you're a good player. You wouldn't be where you are otherwise.

I need more practice. Maybe I need to grind more. I get one chance to practice A1 and A2 a week, and while we do clear, I'm not at all spot with my performance in there. Once we clear it, we're done. I don't go back until next week so I don't get to practice again until next week. Half the time I don't even remember what it is I did wrong the week before because we're clearing anyway. It's a shitty way to be about going through fights you've cleared. I feel like I've gotten worse at them over time.

Do you go to other players for advice or do you keep at it, grind away, and come up with your own strategies? I'm really interested in your mindset to approaching new content.

Both. Never be afraid to ask questions, especially to somebody more experienced in a fight or a class than you. A good way to figure out things yourself is to relate a situation in an encounter to one you're more familiar with, especially in a game with as many reused mechanics as this one.

Remember to line things up with your CDs, and always think about uptime, at least when it comes to DPS classes. Think about a fight on a GCD basis once you can remember the script, a lot of the best tanks/healers also do the same. A lot of this comes from repetition.

Don't be afraid to help people out with 0/1 chests, it might give you the experience you need. So basically, all of the above.

I need some advice, /xivg/. I have been raiding with a decent group for 3 months now and we just made it to AS4. We've been clearing the other floors consistently, and have Thor on farm.

My issue is that I joined the group as a WAR (it was my best geared job at the time), and I really, reallyyyyyy can't stand what SE has done to this job in terms of all but forcing the job into the OT slot. Our MT is a DRK, and their always going on how they enjoy being the MT. I hover around 650-700 DPS on most encounters, and the feeling of being a tank that can DPS has finally struck a nerve with me, even though I'm helping the group out with my numbers.

I rolled Warrior because I want to be the big guy holding the monster while everyone else does their thing. But for the last year, SE has released more and more content that wedges a huge difference between the MT and OT role. Since Heavensward was released, pretty much only Bismark X has had a fighting style where both tanks are responsible for doing what their role is intended for. Ravana is a single tank fight, and pretty much all of AS can be done with a few tank swaps here and there (we do AS1 with two WAR, AS2 is doesn't really count, and AS3 has little swaps at the end). From the videos I've seen of AS4, WAR is again put in as an extra DPS with some little bits of tanking thrown in. Thordan is just a slap in the face for anyone on the OT role.

I'm at i207 with PLD and enjoy the job (despite the flaws, I feel that it's in a good place). Should I just tell my group that either I start to MT these fights or I'm leaving because I'm not having any fun anymore? I'd be risking a group that can actually be coordinated enough to clear content and then have to look for a new group which can be pretty hard on my server.
